LD33 — You are the Monster

Minotaur and the Theseus by hgcummings 2015-08-24T21:09:00

Really enjoyed playing this -- the wall-flipping mechanic made it interesting by allowing me to set up a barrier against Theseus (as he seems to be slower at pushing walls)

The minimal audio gives the game lots of tension -- perhaps adding some footstep sounds of Theseus (which can get louder as he gets closer) could make it even more tense (if that's what you're aiming for!)

I found the Tricksy difficulty level to be pretty well balance -- not convinced Monstrous is possible :)

Nessie: Hide 'n' Eat by Jerre 2015-08-24T21:27:00

The graphical style and the haunting drone give this a really cool atmosphere!

The idea of the coloured beams is really cool too.

I felt that it was a bit too easy to curl up into a corner and hide, so I think something to increase the pace / tension would help -- a hunger meter (as TerraCottaFrog says) or maybe the inabilty to stay still, or maybe some of the beams could move around.

Slime VS City by ItsSacraficed 2015-08-24T20:17:00

This was fun to play! I like the funny music.
It took me a little while to figure out how to play -- maybe some instructions at the start would've been useful.

To The Rescue by mockthebear 2015-08-24T20:29:00

Shame you didn't manage to complete it -- the main character looks really good!

Kerberos by lcarpentier 2015-08-24T21:49:00

Wheeeeeeeee!

This was enjoyable to play -- the wheee sounds are hilarious :)

Perhaps it would've been nicer if the waves were a bit shorter, for more variety.

Safari by Parappa 2015-08-24T21:54:00

Topical!

I thought the simple geometric style worked pretty well.

I think the ending could've maybe gone on a bit longer, and punished the player more for killing the lion.

Patient Zero by Friday 2015-08-24T20:04:00

The game was really fun to play!
I also found the screaming sound really annoying, though -- toning that down would make it a lot more enjoyable.
I also found it a bit too hard, but victory doesn't feel out of reach, which is good -- I'm going to keep trying!
I love the moodiness (ambient music, burning barrels, rain)

Pokemen by Skyfish 2015-08-24T20:36:00

I like the idea of the game!

Unfortunately the keyboard controls don't seem to work in the browser for me. I could still play and get quite far, though.

The main music theme is really, really good!

Flying Purple by pkenney 2015-08-29T10:53:00

This was really fun! Really well put together, and just the right amount of challenge.

You are what you eat by woodenrabbit 2015-08-24T21:35:00

This is a slick game! I really like the random levels -- they're generated in an interesting way.

I found the game a bit too easy -- I could just click furiously on the enemies and I seemed to well that way. It would be nice to make some tougher enemies (perhaps with one-shot kill, but slow bullets which you can dodge).

Loch Ness by SnoutUp 2015-08-24T21:29:00

This is a nice twist on the Snake-style game!

Would've been nice to make the person in the boat look a bit different -- I kept wanting to eat them :)

Pegakitty Saves the World! by matthias_zarzecki 2015-08-27T21:05:00

Yay!

A bit too easy -- maybe it could do with some monsters? ;)

But a nice idea, and the rainbows were a nice touch.

Knights of the living dead by sneeuwpopsneeuw 2015-08-24T20:25:00

The web version doesn't seem to load -- the loading bar is stuck at 0% :(

Tonald Drump 2k16 by SilentNight 2015-08-24T20:41:00

The graphics and animations are awesome! I love how the hair has a life of its own.

I'm so glad that the characters appearing in your work are entirely fictional.

Loch Beautiful Ness by thiagofr 2015-08-24T21:16:00

Nice idea! (and similar to my game in a way :) )

I liked the graphics and the little touch of the photographers jumping for joy after taking Nessie's photograph.

Would be nice to have a little confirmation when they do take a photo, e.g. a click sound.

Monsters Under The Bed by Interface 2015-08-27T21:35:00

I really like the idea of your game, I thought it worked really well! The music and sounds are really good too.

I think it was perhaps a bit too easy -- whenever I was spotted, I could just stand still for 10 seconds, then carry on monster-ing around. Adding something else to make this harder would be nice!

DRUMSTER by SoulGame 2015-08-27T20:46:00

Ahhhh my eyesss everything's warped 0_0

On the other hand, this is an excellent game! It felt really polished, and the rhythms I had to bust out on the keyboard were quite interesting. If only there was a way to stop my eyes going weird from staring at the moving dots >_<

You Have Killed Them by Boehrsi 2015-08-24T20:24:00

I enjoyed playing this -- the light effects are really cool!

I think it's a good structure for a game -- at the moment it's a bit too easy and too short, so could do with something to make it a bit more challenging (like your suggestions of more levels, moving enemies)

Hug me, please! by Geared Games 2015-08-27T21:47:00

Really fun to play! I thought the difficulty was pretty well balanced, too.

Sad that the protagonist did not receive any hugs.

Pro Gardener - Monster Edition by JoshyOshKenoshi 2015-08-24T22:07:00

Cool idea! I like the graphics, the plants look really good.

I found the plants didn't really demand much towards the end -- I spent a lot of time waiting around, which slowed down the pace a bit too much. Making them more demanding later into the game would've made it more frantic.

Boss Stomp! by MrDave 2015-08-24T22:01:00

This was really fun to play!

I found most of the levels easy to complete by pretty much just flailing around, which although it was hilariously fun, wasn't much of a challenge :) (except for the final level, which I can't get close to completing)

Kaiju no Ai: Aisuru no Monogatari by Hizu 2015-08-27T21:15:00

I loved the music and the Street Fighter-esque level selection screen -- they were awesome!

Would've been nice if the difficulty ramped up a bit more gradually -- the first two levels seemed impossible to lose, and the last one was quite challenging.

Nice ending, too!

The Dragonslug by Nek 2015-08-24T21:45:00

The jerky graphics, creepy audio and fleeing creatures make me really feel like an evil monster -- this is definitely the most monsterous game I've played so far!

I didn't realise I could double-jump straight away, which made it very hard -- might be worth adding this to the instructions.

(Also as a practical tip, it'd be nicer if you didn't have to install the game -- it'd be easier if the .exe and the resources were just all downloaded in a zip file.)

WICKED SK8 by goet 2015-08-24T20:47:00

I like the graphics style!

Not quite sure how it links to the theme :)

You Are The (Loch Ness) Monster! by architect404 2015-08-24T21:22:00

Really nice idea! (Also, very similar to mine :))

This feels like a really polished game -- the little touches like the fish make it feel very complete.

The difficulty feels just about right too -- I managed the first few levels, but you have to get very sneaky once you get to 5+ tourists.

The music is pretty rockin' too!

I'm a Monster Rawr! by bakakyo 2015-08-27T21:56:00

Nice idea!

I think the difficulty curve was roughly about right, but there are a few little things which make it annoying (civilians just hanging around in a fire, or refusing to go into the van, or getting stuck behind a house :) )

The music and sounds were good, too!

You are the Loch Ness Monster by LeekAnarchism 2015-08-27T21:23:00

Thanks for the comments everyone! Glad you've been enjoying it!

As everyone's said, it's quite hard -- a result of me playtesting it too much and thus being too good at it, no doubt :)

Here are a couple of tips:

- If you're trying to catch a fast boat, try to run away from it slightly slower than it's going -- then when they've spotted you, you can duck down under water straight away
- You don't have to stick Nessie's entire neck out of water, just the top of the head works and allows you to escape more quickly
- Don't loiter at the sides of the Loch for too long, otherwise you'll get spawn'd by a new boat / new sub

NessImpostor by maccam 2015-08-27T21:01:00

Go team nessie! (This is the same idea as my game :p)

I like the line-y graphics and the sounds -- the game needs to get more difficult over time, though, as I found it too easy to hover below the police to get them where I wanted, then strike. I think this could be really fun if a few more twists were added, e.g. the police diving down, more police, etc.

Nessie: Quest for Fame by blubberquark 2015-08-27T21:18:00

Go team nessie!

Loved seeing the tourists' photos, with the surprise seals! Nice touch.

It was a bit too easy to just sit infront of the tourists and rack up the points (although posing was fun :)) -- adding some pressure on the player would've made it feel more like a game.

The Cauldron of Humanity by Lashiz121 2015-08-24T20:51:00

Fun game! Love the giant pixelly demon.
It's a bit difficult, but there are lots of options for strategies which is good.
Perhaps it's a bit too hard to get more points.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

The Everything Building by Kepab 2015-12-15T22:46:00

Hey, you made the same game as me, but yours is way better! :)

This is a really well-made game -- the learning curve and introduction of new ideas was well-balanced, the graphics are cute and the music's cool too.

LEVEL UP! by astrophics 2015-12-18T00:34:00

Nice game! Simple, but fun.

I didn't realise I was getting hit until too late -- it would be nice to have a small graphical effect when this happens, or a more distinct sound (I thought I was managing to shoot the enemy ships in time)

Bruce & Iris by Tezra 2015-12-18T00:40:00

Nice idea!

I think it would be improved if it were a bit quicker -- 3 seconds per move is quite a long time, and I think it makes it a bit too easy (and the games last too long)

The cat animations are cool.

LD46 — Keep it alive

The Olympic Flame: 2420 by Local Minimum 2020-05-01T15:17:29Z

Wowwwwwww you sure know the secret to getting my insta-click of the day (that's right future distopia olympic robots with many a hoopla)

Great original idea! The mechanics remind me of a classic board game, Robo Rally :)

I also seemed to have a finite number of cards rather than infinite, which did make it a bit hard to finish... ah well, we've got plenty more robots, right?

Keep, Calm! by Maniulo 2020-05-12T19:42:25Z

Amazing! This was brilliant fun, I really liked the control scheme and the challenge! I didn't quite finish it, I got stuck by a very steep hill, but had a great time flinging the keep through the air :)

Why, Jeff by jeroenwimmers 2020-04-21T20:37:18Z

Wowwwwwwwwwwww this is something new! The visual and audio style are superb, and the controls are super-nice. It's quite hard, but I reckon I'll crack it when I come back for another go...

Jeff, I'm so sorry you died so many times.

`MY MIND AND BODY ARE ONE`

Why, Jeff by jeroenwimmers 2020-04-21T21:23:04Z

Okay I came crawling back and got to (I think?) the end, amazing!

Why, Jeff by jeroenwimmers 2020-04-25T12:33:01Z

@jeroenwimmers > I think the end is a bit unclear, but once you found true love, you know you’ve reached it. Guess I did then! I went through the game again (with the little bonus) and got the same ending, I assume it just goes into a loop?

Random unsolicited thought of the day: this would translate nicely into co-op multiplayer, a la Lovers in a dangerous spacetime / Spaceteam style. Might be hard to come up with good mechanics for that, but I think it could work very well!

Big Bee Bigby by curtamyth 2020-05-01T14:40:19Z

Hello fellow keep-this-plant-alive gamer!

I love the vibe of this game, the pixely art and the lo-fi music. The gameplay itself was a little confusing at first, it was hard to see the effect of me neglecting the plant, but I liked that I was forced to stray further and further to fetch more pollen.

That Game Over screen is a work of art :) Also excellent game name!

This is Fine by D5R 2020-04-22T12:12:56Z

This is one of my favourites! A really nice puzzle game, reminds me a bit of Chu Chu Rocket (puzzle mode, not competitive of course).

At first I thought this might be a simple riff off a meme image, but it's a very well-designed interpretation of the cartoon. The steady introduction of new mechanics gave it a good learning curve and kept it very interesting.

I haven't finished the levels yet, but I'm definitely coming back for more!

Desertification by hwaet 2020-05-01T14:59:59Z

Nice idea! The look and feel of the game are solid, it was very easy for me to figure out how to move and do actions etc.

It was perhaps a bit too easy gameplay-wise -- first run-through I just kind of made it up and won by accident, so a bit more of a challenge would be good, but it's hard to get the balance!

The little background tune was nice! It does very much sound like stock MIDI piano though, if there's anything you can do to make it sound slightly more unique that would help it to have a bit more identity :)

I'd like to see this extended to more levels and more puzzle-y challenges :)

PLOTOKOSTE-DUSHEPLOT by Nexonium 2020-05-01T14:53:06Z

Cool game! The graphics and feeling were really cool, it has a very good style to it! The beating heart is a good centrepiece :)

The game mechanics were interesting but a little confusing -- at the start there's a lot I could do and it was a bit overwhelming, so if it were a bit more narrow to start off with to act as more of a training section that would've made it a bit smoother.

The atmosphere was really cool -- a bit of basic music / sfx would really help to bring it all together.

The Light Within It by NunoRibeiro 2020-05-01T15:04:27Z

Cool game! It was very simple but solid, the controls were nice and I figured out what to do pretty quickly (except I was running away from the thing following me which I was meant to keep alive! :p)

The sun effect is very cool, and I liked the Age-of-Empires-y music :)

The horse needs help by WhiteFox 2020-05-01T14:34:51Z

Congrats on finishing your first LD entry! I enjoyed the idea, and am glad to have helped save a horse's life today :)

I think the thing that would improve it the most is tweaking the difficulty curve -- I found it was quite hard at first until I figured out the controls, but once I fed my horse once the rest of the game was easy. A few things like giving the player a grace period at the start, then making apples rarer / further away as time progresses would help to keep it engaging.

The graphical style is minimal but quite nice and consistent :) Also I like the music! Perhaps a slightly spookier tone than I expected, but it's a good tune.

What a hungry horse...

Save the FOX! by Euforia Games 2020-05-01T14:06:20Z

Lovely! The graphics are charming (especially the fox with the tiny sword :) ) and the audio is subtle but atmospheric.

I found it took a few rounds before I figured how to play -- a few things that were confusing were: * The fox mostly moves slowly, but when she jumps she quickly disappears, and the extra-high jump feels a bit awkward to control * The bullets (fired by the players or owls) are quite small and subtle, so it was hard to see when damage was occurring to the owl or fox * The spawn locations of the owls are probably a bit too close to the fox's path, imo -- I think it'd be better if they came from further away, and the player had a bit of indication of where they are (e.g arrows, radar)

All-in-all, I think the mechanics need a bit of polishing but the style and idea are top-notch!

Lonely Year by Shanzhai 2020-04-21T20:23:14Z

Really nice! The art and music style go together very well, and the simple controls / layout help to keep the game focussed.

Naturally I flung myself off the cliff on the first game, and seeing the death screen early on helped me figure out what I was meant to do -- I assume by the temptation of the cave that this was intentional.

It took a little while for me to believe that sleeping was progressing anything -- I'm not sure if this is intentional, I guess the feeling of sleeping and hoping for something better is very appropriate for the game title.

The apple was delicious.

Kernel Panic by boxcar012 2020-04-21T18:06:30Z

Spaceteam solitaire! Nice idea, very much on-brand :)

I found it a bit undirected at first, and then suddenly VERY FRANCTIC. If you were polishing it, I'd suggest by guiding the player just to one component to begin with and get them to repair / replace it early so they get familiar with the mechanics quickly, and gently introduce the other components to ramp up the panic.

The door-opening sounds were good! The lack of other sound did make it feel a bit void though -- even though it's in space, a bit of ambiance would go a long way to build an atmosphere / mood.

Message by NoamRaz 2020-05-01T14:23:33Z

Nice idea! I like the feeling of the game, and the music is cool!

The movement mechanics do feel quite slippery and make it hard to control -- adding some acceleration in there would help quite a lot.

I also found it a bit confusing at times, e.g. when things started falling from the sky with no warning, instantly killing me.

Glad you're getting into game jams so early! For a month of coding experience this is impressive, hope you continue :)

Graceful Planet by 3ago_ 2020-04-21T19:03:01Z

Oh gosh, what a brilliant game! A very simple mechanic, but well-honed! With very little instructions I found I could get a good feel for the mechanics and strategy after a few rounds. The music and graphics are solid. I'll be back for some more later :D

long social distance runner by JoeG 2020-04-21T00:02:53Z

Simple but enjoyable bullet hell :) (and good exercise too)

Seasons by leekanarchism 2020-04-21T18:50:49Z

Hi @wizebin -- thanks for the report! Afraid I don't quite understand your bug, it shouldn't be possible to get into a state where you are stuck as you can always undo your previous aquaducts. Note that aquaducts placed in the past overwrite those in the future, although that's not strictly necessary to win. If you have any more details they'd be very welcome!

Seasons by leekanarchism 2020-05-01T15:23:25Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Much appreciated :)

@thefoppian @kuiefs @nonon yeah I was hoping to keep it a bit cryptic and encourage the player to learn in-game, although I didn't have enough time to make a proper stealth-tutorial and guess I failed to make it self-evident otherwise :) I've now added a better (but short) description here so hopefully that helps the next players!

@marbles interesting, you should be able to hold down space, and it'll either place or remove aquaducts, depending on whether you placed / removed one when you pressed it. I think perhaps my aim of keeping both actions to one button was a bit ambitious and having separate place / remove buttons would've been better.

AntOhNo by Rednaxelus 2020-05-01T14:44:58Z

This was fun to play! Nice simple idea and solid controls :)

It felt like it was kind of hard to predict where the feet were going to land, so every time I died it was hard for me to explain why I lost, was it just random bad luck or did I make a mistake? The game starts off quite intense, I think if it was a bit slower but then ramped up (maybe both the foot and ant speeds) that would help to give it more progression and challenge :)

The sounds were simple but effective. Stomp stomp stomp

WordChain by mp_raxxius 2020-04-21T17:36:51Z

I'm not a big fan of word games, but enjoyed this nonetheless! Very intuitive and straightforward to get into the flow of.

But that's not why I'm here, I'm so here for that background music. It sounds like a half-remembered version of the Mii Channel music, with a bit of extra crooning. Brilliant! Perhaps I'd enjoy word games if they all had this BG music...

The life on the title screen is a fun extra touch too :)

Please! Keep me alive by Guntainment 2020-04-21T18:19:12Z

The graphical style was really cool!

The change in music as it got dark was good for building up the tension -- unfortunately at that point I'd only just figured out some of the controls, and had no idea what I could do, or if I could craft a light, or a weapon. I eventually got nibbled to death by a persistent bat.

The controls were a little bit awkward too -- using a touchpad and keyboard at the same time is a little awkward. I wasn't able to click on a lot of things until I stopped walking.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Giraffe Roller by commanderstitch 2020-10-09T21:58:42Z

This game is an assault on the senses -- but a good one!

It was full of constant mayhem and I really wasn't sure what was going on, but I'm glad I played it and feel today I have become a better person because of it.

Radical Rails by neontropics 2020-10-25T17:09:10Z

Nice game! The graphics are really cool and consistent, nice work on those :)

The controls were a bit confusing and it took me a while to get the hang of them -- I think the "smooth" mode seemed to be inconsistent and I didn't really get how they were meant to work. Perhaps a bit of on-screen advice for the earlier worlds would have been helpful.

Project Rewind by Roka Josh 2020-10-09T20:04:55Z

This is a cool idea well-executed! The graphics are simple, but I like the top-down 2.5d approach, and the rewind animation that occurs on death is a really cool touch that makes death feel less punishing / final. The level design is pretty good, and I felt myself learning something on each round -- although it did feel a little frustrating later on when I'd have to spend about a minute doing what I'd just done in order to learn the next thing. If expanding the game, I'd suggest breaking it into smaller chunks earlier on so that the player gets a bit more easy progression at the start before getting thrown into the deep end. The sound was minimal but appropriately so, it kept the focus and atmosphere tense. Nice work! :)

Cursorial by RedHermit 2020-10-09T21:46:03Z

This game seems really cool! I enjoyed the start and the music, but for some reason it keeps freezing for me :( I'm on Windows 10, and have tried in both Firefox and Chrome, with my screen at 100hz and 60hz. When it freeze the graphics just stop moving, but the sound keeps playing (and so it seems the game is still running). Not sure what's going on, but let me know if I can help debug!

Saisons by Gaming Night 2020-10-25T17:19:16Z

Very pretty! I love the graphics and design, really nice gentle use of parallax and lighting effects. The music / sounds were very good and added to the atmosphere too.

I did feel I spent half of the game entering / exiting the screens which did get a little tiring as there wasn't much new to look at then.

Overall, really cool :)

Snek by Nyunesu 2020-10-09T23:34:07Z

Absolutely brilliant! This is one of the best games I've played so far -- the puzzles were well designed and there were some frustrating head-scratchers, but were all the more satisfying to solve, especially the last one! Great work :)

Chompy by aCuriosity 2020-10-09T20:32:16Z

Really nice idea! I had good fun playing this, and thanks for supporting controllers as that's my preferred way of playing :)

The game was very quick to get into and understand and was enjoyable.

I personally found it was fairly easy, but I quite like this kind of game. I also found a sneaky way to make it a lot easier ;) : chomy_piggyback.png

Yes! by Dandala88 2020-10-09T20:17:03Z

Nice work! I do like a bit of platforming :)

I felt the time limit was a bit punishing, and I had to give up as I just couldn't move and carefully control the camera fast enough to get up to the top in time. I liked the idea of making it exploratory, and discovering the path up to the top was fun, but I felt that worked against the time limit a bit. Would probably be nice to have a bit of a training area first before imposing a limit on the player.

Also FYI the timer doesn't seem to show on ultrawide monitors, which confused me for a bit!

Hope to see some more platforming in the future!

TimeSlider - A Dopterra Story by Battlerager 2020-10-09T21:23:44Z

Absolutely loved this! A really nice twist on a traditional sokoban which was really fun to play, and very well-paced -- the puzzles were well-engineered to teach the player something new each time.

I haven't finished it yet, but I'm _definitely_ coming back for more later!

One small nitpick: it would be nice to use WASD or a controller instead of arrow keys :)

My Summer Roller Coaster by Patsui 2020-10-09T21:37:01Z

Hah, wonderful! I love the very literal interpretation of the theme. Found it quite tricky to visually identify what needed fixing so most of my customers died -- but they seemed satisfied none the less and the theme park is hitting its KPIs, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The graphical style (and logo) are very well done too :)

Foolish Me by Raeya 2020-10-09T20:47:03Z

@politecoy glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!

@fc85057 really glad you enjoyed it, and thank you muchly for the feedback! Yes, we weren't super happy with the controls and I agree they are a bit fiddly / confusing, with respect to either colour names or colour buttons on a controller (which are _almost_ right!) We actually made a (very literal) 11th our change from cycling between colours to switching directly to make it a bit more playable so we didn't have a huge amount of time to polish it -- I think my next move would be to just show them in the HUD to remind the player, but any other ideas are muchly welcome!

Foolish Me by Raeya 2020-10-10T19:12:43Z

@mykola aha! You have taken a wrong turn there -- notice how the magnets are now deactivated, so you can't go that way. There is another. Hope you can figure it out and enjoy the rest, there are are more challenges ahead :)

What kind of controller are you using? I only really tested with an Xbox controller, but I'm aware that other controllers don't seem to get mapped very well using the Godot control mapping :(

Foolish Me by Raeya 2020-10-11T13:06:59Z

@joonamo thanks for reporting that! Yeah, some of our friends have hit that issue and we haven't got a fix for it yet -- I think it only happens on that one puzzle right at the start of the game so hopefully doesn't ruin a more progressed run, but we'll try to get a fix out for that sometime soon...

(or an achievement :) )

Foolish Me by Raeya 2020-10-11T14:45:01Z

Update: We've adjusted the first puzzle slightly so you shouldn't be able to get physically stuck anymore.

We've also added B as another key that can be used for magnets, which hopefully makes it a bit easier to control depending on your keyboard layout!

Sleepy Hamster by Karl Erik Saks 2020-10-09T20:42:59Z

Awesome! I really enjoyed this, and kept coming back for more. The art style is very unique and the music (and its integration with the game) was very cool, and I love the unique premise!

I found the first level to kind of be the hardest, because it was so slow! The latter levels kept my interest a bit more, but it was a bit punishing to have to do the first level again every time I died.

It would probably be helpful to have a little more feedback if you try to move on / off the beat, although I figured it out quite quickly.

I think there's a bug with pausing it -- when I paused it for a minute and came back, the items were no longer moving.

Overall a really well-executed game, nice work! :)

S.H.I.P.S. by PhindieGames 2020-10-09T22:07:36Z

I like the idea of making use of the positions of the controller buttons! It did feel that it got easier as it went along, when I was down to 2 ships I could just mash buttons and stay alive forever, which got a bit boring, so feels like it could do with another mechanic to encourage staying alive / progression. Cool idea though, would be keen to see how it could progress!

Loop Overflow by Rhythm 2020-10-09T23:07:16Z

Wow, I wasn't expecting to find The Stanley Parable: Jedi Knight III in Ludum Dare!

I'm really not sure what I just played, but I'm glad that you included the out-of-bounds as part of the game as I was intending to do that anyway :)

I win!!! Yess!

What an experience. The visual feast of Nidhogg combined with a flying wizard bomberman boss battle bonanza.

I managed to win on my first try, but only just! Score: 15169, Gems: 233.

Deeper Space by NaraJeamfry 2021-04-30T21:01:01Z

I couldn't really move for some reason -- my character moved really slowly. Not sure if others have that issue?

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you had fun on your first game jam! As also an enterprise developer, I can probably relate -- I hope you found it a refreshing break and enjoyable programming experience as I did, and hope you get involved in many more :)

Aleph Qoph / Duat by ancient-pixel 2021-04-30T21:22:47Z

Interesting! I really enjoyed the vibe of the game - the graphical style and haunting music really made it unique.

First attempt I just wandered into the desert and got lost, and the second attempt I started to plant trees but nothing seemed to happen. I think a bit more signposting / forcing the player to learn the rules would certainly help at the start, as figuring them out is quite hard!

But I really like the style, and would love to play more like it :)

Mrs. ScubaMan by Shaolin Dave 2021-04-27T21:25:08Z

Cute game! Could do with some controls / instructions and a bit more variety, but I like the graphical style you've gone for. Bashing my head on the way up made me laugh :)

Marvin's Day Job: Mineral Deependence by Devez 2021-04-27T21:32:39Z

Intergalactic capitalism! Nice game :) At first I couldn't see the green arrow (hidden behind the hud), and sometimes the arrows became giant.

I like the aesthetics of the game!

Deep Mine Ventures by PatrickRMC 2021-05-16T17:05:25Z

Spelunky Minecraft! Nice game -- I like the style, and the little touches like the light beam from the player, and the movement of the blocks when you hit them are really nice touches :)

Air-O-Space by zoarfy 2021-04-27T20:48:30Z

Interesting game! The idea of breathing deeper and deeper (sometimes) is a nice take :)

The challenge of multi-tasking breathing whilst blob-sorting is a nice idea, and the way you shake it up by changing the duration of the breathing helped the game to not get boring.

I did find pressing Q and P a bit tiring on the hands though -- I can understand the challenge, but I think I'd have preferred it if the keys were closer, or perhaps changed.

I managed to win first time with a score of 600, not sure if that's good! TBH I just did the purple ones as they were easiest :) (with a touchpad)

Autumn Hike by Brusi 2021-05-04T20:22:50Z

I absolutely love this! The graphics, music and dialogue / humour are all perfectly balanced, and I feel I went on a real adventure. Definitely got some Undertale vibes.

Great work, can't wait to play any more games you create!

RIP Akrabat, the rat in a hat 2021 :'(

Me:Tree! - New Roots by Groggi 2021-05-02T22:03:24Z

Really lovely little game! The music and graphics have a nice calming ambiance.

I went straight for survival and it took me a few goes to figure out how it works, but when I did it was fairly straightforward. I'd love to see this extended into a series of increasingly-difficult puzzles, both to introduce the concepts and then to provide some more interesting gameplay :)

Sometimes I found that if I dragged to some nutrients / water, it wouldn't actually connect. Not sure if I was doing something wrong.

Overall this is a nice idea and well made :)

Hell Diver by MacDoom 2021-05-11T21:02:05Z

Nice! I like the creepy aesthetic you've gone for, a big Nidhogg + Ghouls 'n' Ghosts. I got right into the game and figured out what was going on without any instructions, which is good :)

I found it a little hard to gauge when obstacles were past my person, as the perspective seemed a little weird. Probably something that could have a visual aid, but I'm not sure how! Or I might just get used to it...

I like how the music develops as you progress, but stays relentless. Nice work!

Boring in the deep by WilhelmStein 2021-04-27T21:45:07Z

Mon Dieu! An excellent game! Very addictive -- and I liked the triumphant piano soundtrack.

I really like how I discovered the controls on the title screen "by accident", so when I started the game I knew exactly what was going on from the get-go -- a very clever touch!

Does seem a little tricky in places, especially on my touchpad right now -- I'll be back for more later with a real mouse :)

Down - The game by zubspace 2021-05-18T21:32:28Z

Nice game! Haven't played anything like this this jam, very original.

I found the controls very intuitive, I was confused when I started playing but figured it out within 10 seconds which is a sign of good design! It felt like most of the levels got a bit auto-pilot-y in the jam version of the game, but looks like you've got extra mechanics in the post-jam version which I'm sure help spice it up, I can see a lot of potential ways to expand the game. Nice work! :)

Tall Tales by Octopoid 2021-05-02T21:49:49Z

Really nice game! I like the idea / concept (certainly very original out of the games I've played thus far) and the whole vibe of the game was very well-made -- the graphics, voice acting, and eternal game of round-the-world cricket that seems to be going on.

I found the village quite easy to navigate -- I somehow got to the right place for all of the quests first time, although I wasted a lot of time at the end searching all the crevices. The village probably could've been a little smaller, if people have found it hard to find the farmer. It took me a while to remember which house was mine too :p A map would've probably helped a little.

The music was very suitable too, although I did find it gets annoying after a few minutes -- perhaps next time it would be good to have something with a bit more variation for a longer game like this (note: I have driven myself mad with my own music before like this, it's quite hard to fit into a game jam among everything else!)

All in all I'm glad I made a day trip to your village :D

Catlantis by fabula_rasa 2021-04-30T19:55:51Z

I really enjoyed this! The graphics were lovely, and the music (although not yours) was very well-chosen and helped to give the game a really chill vibe. I was thoroughly engaged until the end.

I did find the level design at the start got me a bit lost / going in circles -- perhaps a little rejig / linearisation would've helped to make the start a bit less confusing. But overall the level design was really good, and I enjoyed exploring!

This is Ecco the Dolphin with cats :)

TAILSPIN! by Saturnyoshi 2021-04-30T21:42:44Z

Absolutely brilliant! The graphics, music and gameplay are solid, and the level design is fun, as well as being very good at leading / teaching the player and being forgiving (well-placed checkpoints). I can tell a lot of experience and care has gone into this!

I'd be really interested to know how you put together such a polished game in such a short time -- have you worked together a lot? Do you have a standard plan / toolkit? I'm just getting started with game jamming in groups, and although it's _really_ fun it's really hard not to tread on each other's toes -- whilst clearly you lot have been very efficient :)

Excellent work and I'm looking forward to playing more!

The Lift by Nuanda79 2021-05-05T21:29:57Z

Interesting game! I really like the premise, a good idea!

It wasn't clear what to do -- when I tried the HTML5 version I assumed it was broken, so had to download the windows version. Some signposting of what the player is meant to do would be helpful, as otherwise I wasn't sure if it was a cutscene or a game!

The puzzle is probably more difficult than fun, but the combination of the tension of the plummeting lift with a puzzle mechanic gives it a nice Stop Talking And Nobody Explodes feel which I think works well.

Endeavour by leekanarchism 2021-04-28T21:50:25Z

Thanks everyone for your feedback! We're so delighted to have people play our game, we hope you've enjoyed it :)

@shaolin-dave @elosociu thanks for reporting the soft lock with that pesky box! I was a little worried about that, I've now updated the version of the game to _hopefully_ totally fix that for future players.

@jlv @marcusuke @elosociu yes, we may have all played Outer Wilds to some degree ;)

@ss9 good suggest! That was indeed on our list, but didn't quite make it in time.

@too-lazy-cat @trusty @pawciu @caveman54 glad you enjoyed it

@pickyburrito49 @keylime thanks! focussing on the transition between the two modes was one of the main focusses of the game so glad to hear it's worked for you

@tengusheath @iaandrei @ayxh @knatt glad you enjoyed the music! @scoobyben1 made it all :)

Endeavour by leekanarchism 2021-05-16T17:11:41Z

Thanks everyone for playing and for your feedback!

@fabula-rasa Thanks! Yeah, we ran out of time to draw graphics for that planet, so I just chucked some shaders on it as I was messing around with them! Definitely would've been next on the list to polish. Who knows if we'll hear from Pod #642044 again!

@korinntech thanks for the details! There's nothing on the purple planet, that's a very last-minute deeply-undocumented "training planet". The idea was that the discovery on the hollow blue planet is a virus which infects Pod, freeing it of its programming restraining it from exploring deeper than its owners command. But story somewhat fell into the "should" list on the last day!

@eckkert yes indeeded ;)

@robotex @nuanda79 @sombrero-guy thanks for playing!

Endeavour by leekanarchism 2021-05-16T19:40:42Z

Run Around In A Room - The Game by Raeya 2021-04-27T00:21:49Z

The glowing red people danced around me at incredible pace, then clipped through the wall in the room.

Later, one of them clipped through my kitchen wall when I was preparing dinner and scared the hell out of me.

Dreadnought Parlance & the Magic Pearl by DecrementedPalindrome 2021-04-30T21:46:04Z

Really well made and polished game! I was thoroughly hooked from the start, and the upgrade system and ever-increasing bullet-hell-ness kept it engaging throughout. It's also the perfect length to play as a game jam game :)

The music is really catchy too!

Dream Burrow by RatFace 2021-05-05T21:19:49Z

Very cute! Nice, solidly-made game -- it reminds me a bit of the Orisinal flash games from back in the day :)

I felt the progression of just getting faster with birds getting bigger made it a bit unjust -- as I got quite far I didn't really have time to react before my screen was filled with a bird. Perhaps zooming out slightly as the mouse speeds up would've helped? (I admit I'm using a touchpad though, so might be at a disadvantage!)

The graphics were really nice (and inspiring me Procreate for my next game) and the music calming. Also the title screen, albeit simple, is really polished and a great intro to the game! :)

The Crystal Cavern by Matthew Cohan 2021-05-05T21:33:53Z

I like the idea of ever-increasing darkness as a mechanic, interesting!

I found the controls a little unrewarding -- having just three positions made it feel less rewarding than free motion, but that could just be my opinion / preference :)

I see this is your first submission -- welcom! Hope you had fun and get involved in more game jams, they're addictive!

The Deepest Space by Robotex 2021-05-16T19:39:13Z

Hello fellow space gamer! I enjoyed hurtling around the solar system you built -- I think I managed to get myself stuck in orbit around the sun which was fun :)

As others say it is quite difficult, especially with the fuel restriction, small gasses and the lack of training. I think I could get better at it, but it would definitely take quite a while.

Thanks for including the maps / navigation, they were really useful feature :)

Worm Rampage by StarryNiteGames 2021-04-30T19:24:02Z

This was fun! It took me a moment to figure out what was going on (I just bounded around uselessly on the surface for a bit) but once I did I got great joy from yeeting my worm merrily at the helicopters!

The game would've benefited from a victory screen, perhaps restarting with more helicopters each time, but the foundations of it feel nice. I love the box art cover too!

HELL deep is your love? by Villanelle 2021-05-18T21:22:30Z

Woah! A very cool and polished game!

The graphics and music styles are very well done -- a bit hotline miami :) I did fine the autoscrolling a little frustrating, but looks like you tweaked that for the post-jam version.

I also played with a controller with a bit -- the rumbling is a nice touch. Top work!

Boomerang Basement Brawl by rhitakorrr 2021-04-30T19:37:20Z

I really like the idea of this game! Also the little training section at the start was a good touch, and helped me to get into the game quickly :)

Deeper in space by Demo20 2021-04-27T21:19:10Z

Nice game! I like the mechanics and the idea :)

I agree it's perhaps not quite challenging enough, I found it quite easy to use the same strategy on each level -- if you were to expand the game a bit, perhaps adding in some varying level shapes (e.g. moving platforms) would help spice it up a bit.

I enjoyed the fast pace of the game too!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Revenge is Inevitable by minibobbo 2022-04-09T17:34:04Z

This was fun! I enjoyed the movement mechanics, the graphical style is good and the soundtrack works very well :)

The level design did force me to yolo a few times, and sometimes it felt a bit like I had to rely on luck to dodge the obstacles off-screen. But I enjoyed the strategic thinking of how to move around the levels.

GO GA by unless games 2022-04-09T17:54:59Z

Very cool! Nice and simple, but the cartoon + glitchy graphical style is cool. I'd enjoy playing this with some different shape levels or level expansion!

Pyre by Foursay 2022-04-09T17:20:09Z

Really pretty game! Definitely enjoyed playing this one full screen and getting absorbed -- the graphics and sound work together brilliantly.

I admit I wasn't really sure what I was doing -- I fed everything to the fire but it seemed to die as I did so, so cause and effect wasn't very obvious. I definitely feel like I missed something but not sure what...

Would love to see more things like this in the future!

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-09T15:58:05Z

Nice game! Very on-theme :) Very difficult game, could do with a slightly gentler learning curve as a lot of people struggle to get past the first few metres. Pressing W just seemed to be a death sentence, so I stopped doing that pretty quickly.

The repetitive sound gets a bit annoying on repeated attempts, but I liked the cheeky things that happened as I crossed! It's very addictive too, a group of us spent quite a lot of time competing. Nice work!

Snow Dude! by Zliebowitz 2022-04-09T17:06:12Z

Really cool idea! Enjoyed the platforming mechanics, very interesting! Did get quite difficult after a while, and eventually got stuck running the gauntlet across a lot of fire. Having a bit of a guide / compass for the mouse movement would help players to learn which angles work for which situations.

Nice work!

Just Five More Minutes... by Rainsong 2022-04-20T21:55:48Z

Mr.Filton Deluxe by DS Nahogara 2022-04-20T21:51:41Z

Love the aesthetic of the game! (My game has similar era vibes ;) )

Took me a little while to figure out what was going on, and then it became quite easy -- I just made a big ol' army of squares to take over the world. It was really cool to draw creations and see them do battle, not a thing I've encountered before!

I'd be interested to figure out how the shapes you draw could affect gameplay...

Hemophiliac Vampire by NiKaDra 2022-04-20T21:52:59Z

I love the style of this game! The combat and movement feels very cool. I found it very difficult though, I died very quickly to the wolves a lot. Not sure if I'm just bad or if it's difficult

CAT SLEEP PROTECT by tutoa 2022-04-20T21:49:33Z

I loved this! Took a while to get used to it -- had to get a real mouse to control the cats accurately (although a touchscreen was quite fun! This could work nicely as a mobile game.)

Would definitely be keen to play an extended version with a few more mechanics / levels!

The Final Word: A Microsoft Word Platform Game by leekanarchism 2022-04-09T21:12:06Z

Thanks @wouter52 ! Yes, afraid my game is pretty difficult if you're not big on platformers. There are two Easter Eggs in fact! Although I do wish I'd put some in the menu UI at the top indeed, that's a good idea.

Don't Touch the Pink Square by Jacob Bernard 2022-04-20T21:57:30Z

Ah, a Pico-8 game! I hope to have a go at making one one day...

Anyhoy, this was excellent! Very simple, but very challenging in an addictive way. This would work very well as a mobile game. A little bit of sound would've been nice to round it off, but all in all it felt like a very complete game -- nice work!

Run Fast! by Crimsonshade 2022-04-16T17:21:17Z

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

The Many Short-Lived Adventures of a Box by Criobite 2022-10-21T15:54:15Z

Ah, I really enjoyed this! Really good level design, especially how you teased the endpoint / later stage early on to give the player an indication of the goal / directions to go in. The music was really jammin' too.

My only suggestions would be: * Adding a small cooldown between resets, to give the player a second to get ready for the next round. A bit of an audio / visual countdown would help with this too. * Removing the auto-jump when holding space -- I think this sometimes ate my double-jumps, which was a bit frustrating.

All in all really enjoyed this! I've also played a similar (but different) metroidvania here, which you might enjoy :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/hyperlooper

Great work!

Beat Survivor by pndaa 2022-10-05T20:56:34Z

Very cool idea and polished implementation!

The core mechanic was fun, and all the little details you've added (the background, small audio ear candy) really come together to make this solid. The upgrade mechanics help to give it some long-term strategy too.

I found that once I got mobbed I died pretty much instantly, and sometimes I got hit when I wasn't expecting it -- I think the difficulty curve is maybe a little steep w.r.t the power ups (which don't seem to help that much after a while), but all in all this was great fun to play!

I admit that constantly clicking on the beat would probably get tiresome after a while -- I'd be interested to play a version that varied up the rhythm a bit :)

Great job!

10 Steps to Elysium - Sword Practice by ghostbomb 2022-10-06T21:33:18Z

The graphics and sound were really well made too. Would like to play a game like this expanded with puzzles / challenges!

Tiny Jukebox by bobo_oh 2022-10-06T21:49:23Z

Wow! Really nicely polished and complete game, good work! I thought the music was really well-made in particular.

NIMBOSTRATUS by huskitch 2022-10-06T20:52:22Z

Wow, the graphic style is _really_ cool, I love it!

I really enjoyed the ambience -- the sounds, the clouds are really cool. The mechanics of the game were nice, but it felt like the difficulty ramped up a bit too much with no let-up. I enjoyed the bullet-hell-with-eyes, but it gets a bit tiring when it's literally non-stop, so adding in waves or a similar mechanic would help with that IMO

Overall this was really cool and memorable, nice work!

Match it Fast by CharlieMrl 2022-10-14T15:30:26Z

Oh wow! This is one of my favourite games I've played this jam. Really good idea and solidly built!

My only criticism is that the music loop is a bit short and gets annoying after a while, but otherwise this was a blast. Excellent work! :)

Long Shot by F1Krazy 2022-10-08T18:57:43Z

Very solid little game! Enjoyed playing this -- the style somewhat reminded me of "Action Fighter" which I used to play on the Sega Master System :)

For some reason the game got a bit slower as I was playing -- both the movement and the audio slowed down, to the point where it was a bit _too_ easy to play. Not sure why -- FWIW I was running it on itch.io and I'm using Firefox.

Overall great work!

[WebGL/HTML5] Music Demon by leorid 2022-10-08T18:44:59Z

I really got into playing this! I enjoyed the level design and puzzles -- took me a little while to figure out some of the double-jump tricks but was satisfying when I got them. I really liked the little in-game tutorial at the start too, a very nice touch.

Having the audio change between modes was really cool too. Nice work :)

Shattering Star by Emty 2022-10-06T20:23:54Z

Nice idea! I like the idea of teleporting between three timelines as a puzzle mechanic. The ship had a nice spooky atmosphere.

It'd be nice to extend the puzzles a bit beyond what there is so far -- most of them involve picking up a thing and putting it somewhere, obviously that's quite a bit more work

Nice work!

Running Time by DesertMaw 2022-10-08T19:11:46Z

Wow, the CRT style is really cool! Although the graphics are ultimately simple they work really well (especially the rewind mechanic), and I enjoyed the music too.

The short, snappy levels and steady introduction of mechanics were really good too.

I also got stuck with the flying-upwards-forever bug on one of the later levels alas. But really nice work!

Chicken Golem! by T C 2022-10-06T21:05:37Z

Nice mechanic! A very nice old school platform game. I enjoyed how the mechanic changes each level to keep it interesting. Bawk!

Hyperlooper by Matt Barnfield 2022-10-04T19:53:38Z

This was addictive! And a really good use of metroidvania mechanics.

I liked the level design -- I found each time I was exploring it guided me to see what I needed next, but didn't quite let me reach it without a bit more practice, which was very rewarding. The new abilities were all interesting and blended together well, and when I managed to reach the end it felt hard-earned (in a good, punishing metroidvania way :) )

I also enjoyed the camera-in-camera touch for the buttons, which was very swish.

I think I sequence-broke, however: I got the first three power ups then went straight to the end. I believe this is known as a "pro gamer move".

My only gripes would be: - Sometimes the hint box would cover areas of the level I wanted to see clearly, so making them fade after a short time (or hide) would've been nice - I found the click mechanic a bit awkward / uncomfortable to use in general whilst also platforming -- adding a bit more of a grace / buffer zone around the targets would have been nice (i.e. I don't think the accuracy required is very fun)

All in all really well made. Would love to play (and speedrun) more of this!

Sailing through life by Chase of Bass 2022-10-06T21:23:23Z

Really nice simple design, good job! I enjoyed swishing the boat around :)

The music was nice (is there a bit of microtonal in there?) although it got a bit repetitive after a while -- I'd suggest building a few calmer bits into the song to pad it out :)

Cascading Clockwork by DecrementedPalindrome 2022-10-04T19:23:44Z

Extremely cool! Reminds me of some flash games from back in t'day :)

I very much enjoyed the mostly-two-tone style with the music -- very atmospheric. The honey pots are a nice bonus challenge mechanic. Some of them were quite frustrating to get but that's part of the challenge!

The fact you made this with pure CSS and HTML is absolutely bonkers incredible, very impressive!

Time Invaders by MelekTaus 2022-10-08T18:51:39Z

Wow, extremely impressive! I had a nose through the code, very old-school :D

The game was very solid and enjoyable, and I liked the core mechanic -- my only small suggestion would be a visual indicator of which world (of 4) you were currently on, just to make the switching feel a bit more real (it took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on).

Great work!

Super Robo-Hockey! by RatedDForDegenerate 2022-10-21T15:44:23Z

Interesting idea! I enjoyed this -- I definitely found that I ended up dying to my own ball more than anything else, and it took me a while to realise that it was hurting me. I think the game would be a bit more enjoyable if the ball didn't hurt you -- at least at first, to ease the player into the game bit.

I enjoyed the variety of enemies, it was nice to restart the game and get a different challenge each time!

Nice work :)

A day of the priest by SayuriNyooko 2022-10-06T21:20:15Z

Funny game! Poor sheep :(

I liked the world you built -- it's a shame I didn't get to explore it very much, would've been nice to have a few more alters!

Robo-soaker by DeltaMain 2022-10-06T20:39:16Z

Wow, I really like the graphics! Nice style, a lot of care went into it :)

The game was fun and I enjoyed running from the terrifying leg monsters. I found the perspective a little weird, which made it hard to aim, but otherwise it was fun :)

Schrodinger's Afterlife by JosephWalker 2022-10-04T20:30:58Z

Really nice idea! I enjoyed the switching mechanic, and being able to hold tab to switch is a really nice touch.

The level design was very good -- generally I found that I was learning the mechanics naturally as the game progressed. The difficulty jump for the last level was perhaps a little steep, but it was a satisfying one to solve. I'd definitely enjoy playing more levels of this with more puzzles and mechanics!

The platforming also generally felt nice and solid, and I enjoyed the music switcheroos.
