Cool retro graphic style, you should add the instructions to the page. i found the z button by mistake to enter the instruction page

shimmerscale 2022-10-03 20:17

Fun! I really like the art style. The facts that I only had to protect the cockpit and that I could only fire once every 10 seconds made it a lot more strategic than I expected, which was a nice surprise!

f1krazy 2022-10-03 20:54

@kostas-nik You're absolutely right, I didn't consider that. I'll update the description.

@shimmerscale I'm glad you enjoyed it!

ideaspersecond 2022-10-03 23:50

I really like the concept, but some of the enemies seem WAYYYY to powerful, and all I can do is just sit back and die....I think maybe toning down some of the spread weapons would be a good idea. Great art and Music! Cool Stuff!

chromaphase 2022-10-04 00:31

Keep going, quite challenging !

diego-teran 2022-10-04 05:23

Loved the art and polish. I feel like the ship could be shaped in a way to make the hitbox clearer.

tris-w 2022-10-04 18:33

I like the graphics, the concept of the game but for me the music feels inappropriate, overall it's a cool game!

f1krazy 2022-10-04 20:15

@ideaspersecond Balance is always something I've struggled with, as I'm not too great at these kinds of games myself, so it's hard to know where the line is. I'll take a look at toning down some of the enemies.

f1krazy 2022-10-04 20:18

@diego-teran Would it help if the cockpit was a different colour? I've been wondering whether the light blue cockpit doesn't stand out enough against the light grey bodywork. It's probably not great for colour-blind or visually-impaired players.

diego-teran 2022-10-04 21:29

@f1krazy yeah, or maybe just a message to explain that you need to protect the hull and not the wings.

pattedecanaard 2022-10-04 21:41

Fun and polish game, I like the art style. It's a bit difficult for me, but it feels very good to play. I think i got my best score by staying at the top right corner :p Well done !

zakroutil 2022-10-05 12:07

Fun and well polished game, some of the enemies feel too difficult, but the long charge time definitely adds a nice strategic aspect to the game.

cal 2022-10-06 21:13

Really nice art style and polished game! Great job :)

theheheo 2022-10-06 21:37

The overall presentation of the game is super neat! The visuals and the UI was very nice. When playing I felt pretty hopeless, it felt impossible not to get hit, and I didn't really like sitting there helpless waiting to be able to shoot. Other than that great entry!

katboo 2022-10-07 09:39

Such a clever take on a classic idea. Making only the tip vulnerable was inspired. Super polished too!

f1krazy 2022-10-07 14:07

@katboo Thanks! Having a hitbox that's smaller than your actual craft is a standard feature of bullet hell games, and in this case I thought it would make sense to make the cockpit the hitbox.

actuallythemoon 2022-10-08 17:24

On one hand i think that the game would be more fun if it was faster, but on the other hand i see many people complaining about how hard it is so... i dunno lol cool little game still!

embedder72 2022-10-08 17:40

I did struggle to figure out the hitbox. As you mentioned highlighting that a bit would have helped. Overall I loved the feel and you really nailed the theme. Great job.

ryupold 2022-10-08 17:47

nice little game. just missing a volume control :)

fifut 2022-10-08 18:03

I like shooter games but I find this one too slow. Maybe enemy speed should increase over time.

However art style is beautiful

wouter52 2022-10-08 18:08

Cool game! First I panicked a bit when the enemyships came to me, but somehow they don't hit you luckaly ^^ I like the interpetation. You made it such that every 10 seconds the weapon **could** shoot. Some other games I have played just shot the gun every 10 seconds. Your approach gives more room for tactical play.

The graphics are cute and the music is basic, but very catchy ^^

Great game overall!

k-s-raj 2022-10-08 18:11

great game and great effort.

leekanarchism 2022-10-08 18:57

Very solid little game! Enjoyed playing this -- the style somewhat reminded me of "Action Fighter" which I used to play on the Sega Master System :)

For some reason the game got a bit slower as I was playing -- both the movement and the audio slowed down, to the point where it was a bit _too_ easy to play. Not sure why -- FWIW I was running it on itch.io and I'm using Firefox.

Overall great work!

alks 2022-10-08 19:13

Great work! I really like the art and the feel of the game! Fun to play! The audio is also super nice! Especially the sound effects!

f1krazy 2022-10-10 11:50

@ryupold Unfortunately TIC-80 doesn't support that. I can play sound effects at different volumes but I can't make music tracks play at different volumes. It would have to be a binary on/off toggle.

@fifut That's something I'm considering for a future update, but it would need a lot of work and balancing to get it right.

@wouter52 I originally had the gun fire automatically as well, but I changed it for example the reasons you mentioned: to add an extra element of strategy.

@leekanarchism Thanks for the heads-up. I have a sneaking suspicion that enemies and bullets aren't being deleted when they move off-screen, which would gradually cause the game to lag. I'll investigate, and if that is indeed the case, I'll fix it.

I'm plowing through my backlog and I'll get round to all your games shortly! Thanks for your reviews!

batkoi 2022-10-10 16:28

Fun game. Good art and audio. I feel like the player ship could be a bit smaller so it would be a little easier to dodge bullets at the bottom of the screen because the bottom of your ship is colliding with the window border. Either that, or let the ship to go off screen a bit.

furano 2022-10-10 17:55

Nice old school vibe ! The graphics are great !

However I found it quite difficult to grasp where the hitbox of the ship was... It took me quite a while to realize that only the cockpit could be hit by bullets.

I also found the control super unintuitive. Why the heck **Z** ?? I was stuck in the menu without being able to read the tutorial until I learned about the command. It would have been super useful if the continue/fire button was mapped to multiple common commands, so people don't fumble around and use the one they prefer. For example, you could have mapped it to E, space, enter, left click, etc...

While the core idea with the 10s is good, Idid find it quite boring however. Would have been lovely to add something to do in-between the 10s timer, like dodging or shooting less effective bullets.

Oh one more thing, I looved your intro before the menu !! Really well made !

dusho 2022-10-10 18:40

theme used for really limiting the game.. other than that, game feels nice, fitting art and music

adecon 2022-10-10 21:54

Very good graphics изображение_2022-10-11_005412447.png

pychewing 2022-10-10 22:32

Haha, cool beans! The intro got me. Felt really authentic to the era this is imitating.

The simplicity of the graphics fit well into everything, the music was also a good match for it. The idea for the 10 seconds is neat, but didn't really need to be used if you're just dodging for most of it. Just nice to see someone else who made a bullet hell game for the jam. Well done!

immanentdeath 2022-10-11 00:50

The music is half the experience playing this game. The beep boop is too good.

terracottafrog 2022-10-11 04:45

Had a lot of fun with this one! I tended to save my shots for the bosses since they were worth so many points. Occasionally I used one for the full-width waves if I didn't see a way through.

I would have liked to see more a difficulty curve, I felt like a lot of my deaths at the end were just from simple mistakes rather than misreading a situation or failing to navigate some tight bullets.

brusi 2022-10-11 15:45

Nice little shooter/bullet hell, I liked the art and the chippy music :) I with there was a "smarter" way to use that 10 second shot. To make it matter. Now I just waited until the meter filled and gave it my best shot. I think this mechanic could work better on a constant set of enemies (space invader style) or against a boss that you need to kill, rather than waves of passing enemies.

cedric86 2022-10-11 19:49

425k nice littel bullet hell shooter with a 10 second twist that really forces you to hang on to that shot and use it on certain enemy types whose shots you can barely dodge. Well done. Good entry.

dannyk1994 2022-10-11 20:10

Really run idea! And a great little arcade shooter. Loved the audio and sound effects. Gameplay was fun too. Great entry!

elzeu 2022-10-11 22:33

Good vibes playing! Great arcade with nostalgic audio! Thanks for the experience!

daivyishere 2022-10-12 09:01

Very good arcade shooter. Love the simplicity and the sound effects.

digital-bacon 2022-10-12 09:49

Nice shmup! I'm a sucker for retro graphics, audio and gameplay so I loved this. Great work!

glaciereclipse 2022-10-14 17:43

Fun little game, really interesting to wait for the right moment before shooting, created some intresting moments. Great entry!

f1krazy 2022-10-15 13:40

@furano Z is one of the default inputs provided by the TIC-80 game engine I used. I think I can change the control scheme to use Space instead of Z, but I'm not sure, as I've never tried to before.

n-n 2022-10-17 09:55

I liked the game. Good graphics and great music. I had a fun time. Good job!

johnnysix 2022-10-17 21:05

Once I figured out the hitbox it got a lot easier, I'd suggest if you add for your other game, to maybe scale down the player and swarm sprites so you can fit more on screen, and with the 10 second charge, it'd be cool to have a super-weapon that destroys the entire screen, so it feels like a decent pay off for surviving the bullet hell while charging the weapon. ( Multiple explosions, chain lightning, force-fields, you name it. )

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.png

jonathang 2022-10-17 21:25

After playing this for a while, I think that although the 10-second weapon cooldown fits the theme well, it's not that much fun when actually playing because it feels like a lot of tight dodging and not much you can do about it.

I do really like the retro vibes though, and that you made it in TIC-80. Good job!

artofluba 2022-10-21 19:20

Full marks! Everything about it is great. I did spend a lot of time hiding in spots where the bullets couldn't reach me. Overall, really nice and polished. You could release this on Steam right away!

f1krazy 2022-10-21 19:40

@artofluba I don't know if I'd go quite that far, but I'm glad you loved it so much!

artofluba 2022-10-21 20:20

@f1krazy I guess I am feeling optimistic haha. I actually really liked it! The load up screen was a nice touch.
