great graphics!

bunnyden 2020-04-20 23:33

I liked the art style though and I can see what you were going for but the intense motion blur with low framerate made the game pretty hard to play. The bloom was slightly too much too. :) Good work! Keep it up!

gurglesprain 2020-04-20 23:36

Nice polish on this one, it's a real pretty game and the audio is great. Controls felt a bit clunky, it seemed like my jump didn't register sometimes? Also, the owls seemed to sometimes get stuck on the underside of branches and not do anything.

Appreciate the unique theme of this one, well done guys!

lucisaurus 2020-04-20 23:40

I found it really hard to play! there were some stairs around but I couldn't use them? Loved the art, really cute game and concept. If only I could keep poor fox alive :( Good work!

beanslasher 2020-04-20 23:40

Very well done! It was really easy to pick up though the tutorial was just a blue screen with a red border up top. Good job!

gray-fustos 2020-04-20 23:41

Beautiful game

cronobreak 2020-04-20 23:41

Nice art style :)

binaryprinciple 2020-04-20 23:42

Nice graphics and sound. I would love to have more FOV so I can see where the owl is coming from, besides that nice game!

bloody-xdlol 2020-04-21 01:21

awesome graphics. I thought i can climb the ladder but couldn't, and the jumping between branches is kinda challenging. But Overall it was a lot of fun :))

anton-surkov 2020-04-21 06:35

I jumped on the fox and used it as free taxi for moving on the level,at first it was Ok, but later fox start glitching and disappear XD Fun overall

euforia-games 2020-04-21 10:43

@beanslasher Thank you very much, the tutorial video is a big file, so you just need to wait like 5 secs (Depends on your internet)

euforia-games 2020-04-21 10:46

Thank you all for your criticism.

william-nomikos 2020-04-21 10:46

The graphics and lighting used in this game are great. Even though the world is small, it feels super scenic. The sound makes me feel as though I am in nature. I also loved the art used throughout this game. It looked quite nice. Great job on this.

With the gameplay, I found that it was pretty hard to jump to certain branches. It was also possible to ride Lisa and prevent her from moving where she was supposed to go. If jumping were to be tweaked slightly, I think it could be really fun.

With enemies, I wish there was some indicator other than Lisa to show where I was supposed to go. A UI indicator when enemies are off screen would add lots to the game.

Shooting arrows was fun and felt nice, though I think your game would benefit from different ammo types or different enemies. After the first few waves, it began to feel slightly repetitive. However, the core gameplay is there, it just needs to be refined. If this game were to be expanded, I feel like it could end up being pretty cool.

Overall, good job! Thanks for the interesting game

amazura 2020-04-21 12:09

Love the art style :fox: the nature sound really filling the ambiance. player mechanics are good but sometimes the bow flipped to the wrong direction. you got double thumbs from me :thumbsup_tone2::thumbsup_tone2:

sedna 2020-04-21 12:21

I really liked the Graphics. The Sound matches the Mood. What I don't like is that I can collide with Lisa. So i can just stand on her and don't really have to move. Also when she jumps all the way down I was not able to see her. But this might be me. Overall a good Game!

jamjar 2020-04-21 13:08

I liked the game, once I found out how to use the bow I enjoyed it a lot. Sometimes the jumping wouldn't work too well and the ladder didn't work. I think a greater variety of enemies would be good. Overall very good.

maksd777 2020-04-21 20:34

nice calmly game with good music and visuals.

kittrangers 2020-04-21 22:34

Nice game so far! Lights in menu are really pleasant.

noeloskar 2020-04-22 09:36

Really good looking, but kinda glitchy

raimi 2020-04-22 17:33

art is really cute

gravity and stuff near your screen bounds needs fixing

fancyreckless 2020-04-22 17:33

Pros: - Cool graphics and visual effects - Lots of game feel - Good use of theme, I especially like when you have a pet that you need to keep alive

Cons: - Movement is a bit clunky - Some graphical glitches

Overall pretty moody game with nice gameplay. There are some ways to get around and "cheat", but it's just a polish issue.

gentoogames 2020-04-22 21:36

The art in parts of this game were fantastic. I do have to admit that the controls were a bit frustrating, since it seemed like i couldnt jump half the time, and I didnt know you could shoot until several minutes into the game.

johnnysix 2020-04-24 01:01

Loved the sound and the stylised graphics. As others have said, the controls / movement could use some tweaking, it was very hard to jump up the tree if you fell off, and once the fox was out of sight, it was impossible to protect.

savvu 2020-04-25 10:13

Such a great atmosphere! How did you achieve this awesome light effects? I found it a bit difficult to jump on some branches and it could be awesome to introduce some more enemies! Overall a very nice looking game and a great executio. Well done!

popo3744 2020-04-25 10:44

Lisa is a really cute fox ! Really nice job on graphics ans sound effects.

louis-denizet 2020-04-25 10:45

I really liked the art & ambience out of the game, maybe add a feedback to know where the fox is? I lost him many times ^^'

joemid 2020-04-25 16:30

Had a few issues with the controls at first, but resolved after I got used to them. The collisions seemed a little buggy, but it also seemed like you accounted for that, i.e. Lisa gets pushed off the far right ledge and disappears- but re-spawns back, so that was good. I wasn't really able to tell- but does pushing Lisa out of the way of the owl's pine cone bombs help? It seemed like once they were launched- they would hit. I couldn't ever get up the ladder, and ended up just shooting into the air- sometimes that helped, sometimes not. Cute characters and an ominous ambient soundtrack! Good job!

framboisedodue 2020-04-25 19:36

Really nice graphics and a good atmosphere! I had some trouble with controls though! Great !

firellon 2020-04-26 13:02

Hey, I think the best you can do for Lisa's protection is just not to let her go anywhere by standing firmly in her way. This she does not go away and can be protected for some time. Is there some progression in the game besides increasing amount of owls that spawn though? Would be glad to see.

Like the idea and the atmosphere was nice too :v:

Keep it up!

nachodlv 2020-04-27 15:12

The stairs feel a little bit out of place if the player can't use it and if the players lands on top of the fox he can't jump again. Overall I had fun playing the game and is a really solid entry. Good Job!

kuiefs 2020-04-27 15:35

The tutorial was also not really loading for me, but I was able to figure out what to do without it! The jump seemed to sporadically jump really high, and the fox's movements were a bit unpredictable. Fun game though! And the graphics and audio were beautiful.

edalbung 2020-04-27 16:14

Your UI is top-notch ! Really ! And also, I liked a lot the cute graphics !

The concept is interesting, however, there are some issues with the gameplay which prevent (for me) to totally enjoy the game. Indeed, the fox collision annoyed me to jump or to move simply, the player collision should ignore the fox one, in order to avoid the conflicts.

Moreover, I found that the jumps were to imprecise for my taste.

But, overall, I felt good vibes in your game, I think that if you put more time in it, you can bring this game to another level of top quality ! Anyway, gg for your work !

oakwarrior 2020-04-27 17:16

It's quite clunky to play, with issues in character controls and physics a bit. Other than that, it has great visuals and a really cool coherent style!

zubspace 2020-04-27 20:50

This game looks wonderful and the characters are lovely. The tutorial is great and it feels to look after your fox. The music is very relaxing.

Had a bit of issues with the fox and player pushing each other around and jumping felt kinda odd, because it's not very clear, where branches end. But otherwise good stuff.

marco-le-van 2020-04-28 17:06

Very cute characters! The art and the sounds are really immersive and consistent, nice job!

jin9310 2020-04-28 17:41

You made really cute game, however the controls felt bit clunky, especialy the jumping. Sometimes I had really hard time to get up on the branches. Then I saw a ladder, and was hoping it could help me to get up and down, however I wasn´t able to figure out how to use it (if possible?). Nevertheless good job on the game, it is really nice take on the theme. Thank you for this!

dankar 2020-04-28 17:51

Great graphics and mood, but the controls made it really hard to jump between branches :( Are you perhaps handling the input-code inside Unity's FixedUpdate() instead of Update()?

2020-04-28 18:13

the visuals look amazing and kind of like a cross between Trine and Hollow Knight which is a definite plus. I had a few issues with jump registering though and the tutorial was overlaid with a blue screen-covering box so I was in the dark for the first few rounds haha. but the style is really solid regardless and it ties in to the theme super clearly!

2020-04-29 11:51

Challenging game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/H9ztqzSqyIM

euforia-games 2020-04-29 15:24

@jupiter-hadley Thank you so much! Thats awesome!

euforia-games 2020-04-29 15:30

Hey everybody! Thanks for your feedback! About the turorial, you have to wait like 10 seconds, so the tutorial can load.

thedouche 2020-04-29 17:47

Haha nice game! I really liked it, the tutorial does not seam to work, but anyways, really liked it! :D

barret 2020-04-29 18:04

I really liked the art style. At first I kept dying but then I figured out a decent strategy. I also thought it was cool the owls could pick up the fox. I was curious if the owls are the only enemy type or if others spawn as you get further. I didn't make it far enough to see any other enemy types if they exist. but I'd love to know what they are if they do exist.

A few things I noticed - the tutorial just seems to be a black screen (guessing it had to be cut) - when you feed I didn't realize it worked at first, maybe some better visual representation - some of the jumping didn't always work to get to higher platforms. maybe coyote time would help

@

euforia-games 2020-04-29 18:19

@barret No, unfortunately there was no time left to make another enemies, so there are only owls... Thanks for your feedback tho (@ recieved)

bredian 2020-04-29 18:38

What I liked:

1) The sprites are awesome

2) Music. Really relaxing

3) The atmosphere is cool

What needs to be fixed:

1) Controls. Jump controls in particular. Sometimes Mike doesn't jump from the edge of the platform and falls down. Thats why I had so many game overs on wave I. In addition, if you fall on Lisa you can't jump from her, you have to get from her by feet.

2) This glow effect is distracting. Light reflects from everything. Sure this create a good atmosphere, but it shouldn't be reflected by protaganist, for instance.

3) Some weird glitches. Like skyrocketting from bottom to the middle of th tree.

@

euforia-games 2020-04-29 18:42

@bredian Thank you very much for your honest opinion. I totally agree with all of your reproaches.

alex-davies 2020-04-29 19:07

Nice graphics and audio, but almost unplayable from the buggy jump and controls, as well as the owls having so much health. The main issues with the game have already been mentioned by Bredian, in the comment above.

@

shaolin-dave 2020-04-29 19:13

You should look up the game design concept of "coyote time", no platformer game should be without it.

I'm assuming you're using a ray to change an "isGrounded" varibable for jumping. It seems that detects the branches but not the fox, so landing on top of her prevents you from jumping.

The tutorial was blank, nothing ever showed up, it just eventually loaded the game.

I played about five times, every time the fox immediately got attacked by an owl and killed. I was on my fifth try before I saw an apple, but she was already dying.

On my tenth play I got to 0:54 but shoving the fox off of branches until she was at the bottom, but she'd immediately run into the owl as if she wanted to be killed.

The music is great quality, very calming, but probably out of place for this game. The graphics are beautiful, like REALLY good, but I think that time would have been better spent on polishing the gameplay.

sharks 2020-04-29 19:18

The bad: The tutorial did not work for me. The fox would sometimes skyrocket to the top of the tree and I would be unable to get to him in time Collisions could be a little weird, especially when hitting the side of a branch, or maybe that's just the jump controls. The Good: Nice artstyle, gameplay was good an kept me interested. @

euforia-games 2020-04-29 19:21

@shaolin-dave Ok, thank you very much for your extensive criticism. I am aware of the bug with the jumping and agree with you, that it makes the game controls very unpleasant.

I do not agree with you that the music doesnt fit the game tho. Although the game is quite action and the music is calming I think it supports the relaxing vibe of the nature that the game has.

noamraz 2020-04-29 19:54

Hi! Cool game, Lights and Game idea! The Tutorial didn't work (after waiting too) but other things are good!

cptn-b 2020-04-29 19:55

Kind of broke the game. Shoved the fox to the far right of the screen and snipped the owls. I was able to hit enemies off screen by just guessing where they might be. Those owls never came near my precious fox! Nice game you created! @

marvalgames 2020-04-30 01:29

Looks and plays nicely. Mood audio all very nice. Just level design needs some real rework. Clean it up with clear rules and ideas and a natural path and go from there. Potential for something really great.

frozen-spirit 2020-04-30 09:38

The sound and animation is very fleshed out. I think the jumping was hard to control sometimes and it lead me to jumping of a bunch accidentally but overall one of cooler entries I've seen in this jam. :D

mickgerritsen 2020-04-30 16:49

Cool little game! I like that the fox kind of steers you on the map to the places where you need to protect it. I also really liked the art too! What you could improve: - Jumping. The jump doesn't feel great. It is a guick jump and I don't feel like I have much control over it. - I couldn't see the branches very well. I think they lack a bit contrast.

But you did a really great job with this game. It is quite polished overall.

You can play my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-harmless-prison-escape @

jamesolivermusic 2020-04-30 16:49

The environment graphics are really nice! Sets the mood well. I feel that the movement animations could use some tweaking, particularly jumping and shooting. The jumps are a little high and difficult to land consistently, and to me it feels that the jumping is far too fast. The shooting is also too slow! Maybe intensify the music a bit more if you keep going with the battle waves idea. to me it seems that with the ambience you're setting up, you would be better geared for an adventure game. Great work all round.

thrawn911 2020-04-30 16:55

The art style and sounds are great, and the fox is very cute, but the jumping is a little too hard.

oxters 2020-04-30 17:13

Really fun game, would feed fox again

hybitous 2020-04-30 17:38

I really like the art style. The animations are very cute. The music fits the vibe really well. At times I tried to drop to the branch below by pressing S, but that didn't work. That might be a good addition to make the controls feel a little more intuitive.

philanche 2020-04-30 17:55

Very nice art style, the fox was very cute. The only complaint I have is that sometimes I'm not sure where the fox goes, and it just dies off screen. Here is my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-last-of-the-dino-eggs @

garys 2020-04-30 18:12

Graphics are kinda nice, though as someone else mentioned, the bloom could do with toning down a bit. Overall I like it, but I found the physics were a bit off - and damn, that fox can jump insanely high! The collision boxes between box and owl were a bit unforgiving too! As a lot of people have mentioned with my _own_ game, I think this could do with an aiming pointer. I'd also appreciate some kind of indication as to where the fox is at any given time... an arrow or a minimap or something. @

krammetje 2020-04-30 18:15

Interesting game, solid entry.

Really like the art.

danilo-freire 2020-04-30 19:23

My fox goes offscreen sometimes. I think the map layout could be more easy to navigate, so i can get more control on where my character should be to focus on the objective. A cursor indicating the fox direction would solve that too. Anyway, congrats! came from the blogpost @

fabula-rasa 2020-04-30 20:12

I really enjoyed the audio in this game. The sounds of the forest are just great. I enjoyed the aerie graphic style as well. But I had trouble with the gameplay. Seemed to me that I could sometimes double jump and sometimes could not - couldn't figure out why (bug?). Also, there was a ladder that I couldn't use - but maybe it was purely decorational @

joror 2020-04-30 21:34

Nice little platformer/defender! Had some trouble in the beginning getting higher up the tree, but figured it out after a while. A bit of extra mobility would have been nice :) (double jump?)

The glowy visuals also worked nicely with the art style. Nicely done!

japes 2020-05-01 09:14

Amazing polish, the menus/transitions etc look really pro. The graphics and sound are amazing. Controls could use a bit of work maybe, tweaking of player speed/jump height etc. The ability to move down from a branch would help a lot. I felt like I couldn't see enough of the tree at a time but maybe that was deliberate. Tutorial didn't work for me sadly, I just got a black screen

vesper 2020-05-01 11:48

Lovely little game! I also couldn't get the tutorial to work in the WebGL version, and sometimes the jump key was a bit sticky which could be a bit frustrating, so that needs a bit of smoothing out. As some people have mentioned, being able to double jump, or fall down a level would have been nice (being able to interact with the ladder might have also been a nice shortcut tool on that front).

But I really liked the atmosphere with the background noises and the visuals were lovely. That little whimper sound the fox makes is a great motivator. Overall a very nice little Jam entry. Well done.

leekanarchism 2020-05-01 14:06

Lovely! The graphics are charming (especially the fox with the tiny sword :) ) and the audio is subtle but atmospheric.

I found it took a few rounds before I figured how to play -- a few things that were confusing were: * The fox mostly moves slowly, but when she jumps she quickly disappears, and the extra-high jump feels a bit awkward to control * The bullets (fired by the players or owls) are quite small and subtle, so it was hard to see when damage was occurring to the owl or fox * The spawn locations of the owls are probably a bit too close to the fox's path, imo -- I think it'd be better if they came from further away, and the player had a bit of indication of where they are (e.g arrows, radar)

All-in-all, I think the mechanics need a bit of polishing but the style and idea are top-notch!

shakedimus 2020-05-01 15:57

I think the game looks very cute and fit the theme weel. This is one of the first protection games I've played in this jam where it really matters that you are protecting something so great job on that! The atmosphere was quite nice. The gameplay was ok but not super original and it did become a bit boring after a while. Overall nice entry with a good amount of polish but it could use some variation in the gameplay.

ambadev 2020-05-01 16:42

Jumping physics needed a bit of tweaking and the game could use a bit more enemy variety, but it was pretty solid. Very good-looking game

convg 2020-05-01 18:42

Nice game. I love the feel of it. The tutorial is very informative. I love the art, and the post-processing really adds to the atmosphere. Good work!

jaye 2020-05-01 20:40

Like the art style and soothing sounds. Though It's hard to find the fox once I lost it. But overall nice game

ondrasej 2020-05-01 21:11

The art style and in particular the color palette are awesome. It would be nice if you tuned things like where the arrows appear, but that's just a tiny detail. The music contributes nicely to the dreamy atmosphere and the sounds are sparse, but functional.

Gameplay-wise, the game could be a bit smoother - it seemed to me that most platforms were spaced so that the jumps were just long/high enough to make them, so instead of running smoothly around the environment, I found myself carefully planning most steps, and it did take away from the overall enjoyment of the movement. You might also want to check controls - the game is partially playable with a gamepad: moving to the left and to the right works, but I didn't find a way to jump and to shoot the arrows. You might to either support the gamepad properly, or disable it completely to avoid confusing the players. And also, it took me some time to find out that I can actually shoot the arrows - after trying with a gamepad, I went back to the keyboard, but couldn't figure out what to do with the owls, and only a few failures later, I found out that I can click on them. It would be nice if this had some visual indication, e.g. a special aiming cursor. If you wanted to fix the gamepad support, I think this game could play nicely as a two-stick shooter.

armani03k 2020-05-02 04:20

Love the art style! fox is really hard to find but a nice game overall

lcstark 2020-05-02 07:43

Really nice game! I like the artstyle and the music. Two things made it problematic for me:

1. The branches should be more distinct from the background. Right now they look like background elements and it is pretty difficult to know where you can jump, especially when you're moving. Might just be my color blindness, but it made it really hard to judge my jumps. 2. The platforms are a bit too high for the player's jumping ability. To jump from one platform to a higher one you have to time your jumps perfectly, and the window you need to fit is really small. That makes it a frustrating experience of jumping multiple times to reach one platform, and usually you just end up falling all the way down.

Speaking of falling down, one suggestion I have is to add the ability to drop down from a platform. Press **`S`** or **`Down`** and your character drops down through the platform they're standing on. Without it the movement seems too limited.

Overall it's a great entry. I enjoyed playing it. ;)

ifidamas 2020-05-02 09:52

Nice game, I enjoyed the theme and the graphic; I found it a little hard at first, but nevertheless, it is a nice game!

rayriver 2020-05-02 11:19

Nice graphics!

lairinlair 2020-05-02 20:54

The mood is on point, the music matches well with the art and the whole atmosphere. The jump is a little bit clunky but other than that this is super great! Congrats!

retrome 2020-05-03 12:50

Nice art style and audio! Game is pretty hard because fox often runs away. Sometimes fox jumps too high: about 5 platforms. Tutorial didn't work for me: just black screen with red decreasing line on top.

gameovermexico 2020-05-04 12:31

I liked the graphics and music but if on occasions you lose where the fox is and I think it will reach wave 7, good job!

vex 2020-05-04 14:29

I like the graphics. The controls are very much not mine. Camera occasionally moves out of focus, the ninja can jump easily outside the frames, branches are sometimes solid and sometimes not.

The audio is nice if repetitive, the tutorial remains an empty screen for me.

flynn 2020-05-07 23:25

The music and ambient is very good. Maybe control can be improved a little bit. I feel like the vertical accelration during jumping is a bit too high. But overall a very solid game all around. Good job!

thibaud-ligneul 2020-05-08 08:10

Nice moody music, good UI and sfx, the art-style is cute!

kjscott 2020-05-09 11:28

Might have just been my computer but going between different screens ended up really lagging everything. This might have contributed to the feeling of the firing controls feeling sluggish as well. I did think that the hitboxes for both the fox being hit and hitting the owls was too big, probably just a flat box check rather than sprite mask checking for more pixel-perfect checks. Due to that it felt at times that the fox was being damaged unfairly according to the visual feedback I was getting.

The visual art style and audio were really good, I think with a bit of work in some of the areas this could be a really good solid game.

lyrcaxis 2020-05-11 21:37

I would have prefered it to have been WAY more fast paced than it is, but it is a solid entry no matter what :)
