LD46 — Keep it alive

Locked'goshi by StabAlarash 2020-04-20T23:30:56Z

Lovely art style, like an old classic gameboy. Personally I don't find this style of game too engaging, but this is much more interesting than your standard tamagochi game with all the extra mechanics you dded (food ordering/deliveries etc.)

Edit: Aww voting audio is disabled? I really enjoyed the simple audio!

Took me 172 deaths to complete, and I couldn't stop playing! A strange combination of addictive and frustrating. Amazing cute aesthetic and music, and the style was so polished. Even essentially had a little mini open world!

Cons: Doesn't fit the theme particularly well (though I partially blame a bad theme that could loosely apply to every game ever made) Controls felt slightly frustrating at time - it wasn't possible to make micro-adjustments, so if you don't quite get the heading you want you have to press A/D/A/D/A/D to aim roughly in a straight line.

Overall an amazing submission.

Keep It Alive by danman9914 2020-04-21T20:42:39Z

Great looking game, some real atmosphere created here.

Motobot Defender by pkenney 2020-04-20T23:00:31Z

That really felt a lot more polished than I was expecting - I appreciate 3D can be really time consuming to get looking nice (I had to switch from 3D to 2D at the end of the first day), and the cute style of this really worked.

I really liked how the bike was animated and felt to drive, impressive how you got the ramps at the sides feeling decent given the time constraint.

Gameplay got repetitive quickly, and the controls felt a little clunky - it was hard to slightly adjust the direction.

Nice getting a bit of humour in there with the mother voice - this is the first game I've given a decent humour rating.

Congrats on your first 3D game!

Rebutia by 43sam 2020-04-20T09:42:22Z

Enjoyed the art style a lot - simple pixel art but in a stylish way. Controls feel smooth, though the hit detection felt a bit too unforgiving.

The difficultly also does seem to suddenly ramp up after a couple of waves so I kept losing at the same point.

As with all jam games, due to the time limit it's a bit lacking in mechanics so grows old quickly - more enemy types would help increase retention time, or perhaps some way to level your character or unlock abilities.

MACHINA by Harry Alissavakis 2020-04-22T13:47:19Z

Actually really fun, it took a few tries to grasp how everything worked but then I started to see the strategy.

Probably the most polished entry I've seen so far, this is honestly release quality in most ways - visuals, sound effects, shaders/particles. Only the run animation is a bit janky ;)

the Early Worm by alec 2020-04-21T22:42:50Z

God damn that's cool, 5 for innovation. Controls like QWOP, but actually fun 😂

𝘋𝘜𝘕𝘌𝘞𝘙𝘖𝘜𝘎𝘏𝘛 by corc0 2020-04-21T22:28:19Z

Pretty cool and original concept, enjoyed playing this one. I really like the design of the enemies, cool hybrid between robotic & organic looking.

A few easily fixable issues: Ragdolls have collision so I got stuck on them a few times

The weapon projectile felt very slow, which doesn't match well to the concept of aiming for specific body parts - more like aim and hope they're in the same position 3s later

Player movement was quite heavily smoothed, which made it feel a bit laggy to dodge the enemy shots

Come to Mama by Louis hayes greenwood 2020-04-20T23:26:26Z

Waaaa this art? So polished, it looks better than so games on steam nowadays.

Pandamonium by KP_CFTSZ 2020-04-21T22:10:37Z

Biiig fan of this one, such a polished look and so much implemented for a 48 jam. Obviously a bit more variation on the 'work' would help make it more fun to play longer, and it was a bit spammy - my hand hurt after a few minutes of hitting space bar over and over  .. a hold space to auto-shoot would be appreciated.

Uptime? Nope. by ygrichman 2020-04-21T12:40:47Z

Cute little game! Could do with a little balance, as others have said the money doesn't seem like a factor.

I also kept trying to press Esc to exit out of a screen, and it would end the game and I'd have to start from the beginning 😭

Maintenance Bot 46 by Gurglesprain 2020-04-21T22:33:21Z

Some really great feedback everyone, I really appreciate it! So motivating to have people actually play something you made.

Having crew members was part of my original concept, so you could bring them tools etc. and had to keep them alive - that would give extra incentive not to let oxygen vent completely from certain areas. A minimap is definitely a great suggestion, you could hack something in pretty quickly too - will have that in mind for whatever I make next.

Maintenance Bot 46 by Gurglesprain 2020-04-23T09:48:57Z

@pkenney thanks for the great feedback - definitely my biggest issue was running out of time for any play-testing, definitely speeding everything up could bring a bit more excitement.

I didn't get a chance to debug the collision issue, the character is a box collider and the map uses a tilemap collider. It seemed like you'd especially get stuck on open doors, which was odd because the door collider is completely disabled. But a circle collider would have been a nice easy solution to fix that!

Test-a-ball by JAsonsumm1 2020-04-20T23:03:45Z

Couldn't get it to load sadly, this looks great. I get the loading splash screen, then nothing.

The Cause by enderr42 2020-04-20T22:48:14Z

Really well executed, easy to get into and start playing. I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected, it doesn't look fun from the outside but after a few rounds it gets addictive.

Seems very balanced too, quite difficult but feels like you can almost win if you get a few good cards. Time well spent on your playtesting.

Graphics let it down a little, though I can see the time went into the other parts of the game and I stopped noticing the graphics after a few minutes.

Both or Nothing by victor_reiner 2020-04-21T12:18:46Z

Game looks great, and is easy to pick up. The gameplay is a little bit too simple and it doesn't seem like you can keep track of your stats, which make your choices seem a bit uninteresting

Save the FOX! by Euforia Games 2020-04-20T23:36:53Z

Nice polish on this one, it's a real pretty game and the audio is great. Controls felt a bit clunky, it seemed like my jump didn't register sometimes? Also, the owls seemed to sometimes get stuck on the underside of branches and not do anything.

Appreciate the unique theme of this one, well done guys!

Blokrok by VerttiXPertti 2020-04-21T22:36:40Z

A lot more fun than it looks :joy:, the physics interactions adds a lot I couldn't get a rock in the basket a single time though, but perhaps that reflects more on my skill...

Live, breathe, beneath by t3ch 2020-04-21T15:03:25Z

Hey that's how this goes - jams aren't easy, it's a challenge to work all out for 2 days. I've attempted several before but just lost all motivation part way along and given up.

For next time I'd really recommend aiming for something very simple and derivative for your first submission, then add 'stretch goals' if you have time. It pays to plan well at the beginning, so you know what the minimum is you can do to have something to submit.

This was my first jam where I was able to submit anything, and it was horribly rushed and untested. But it feels so good to finally complete a jam and start getting feedback - so keep positive, and good luck to you next time!

P.S. was this your art? Or assets from elsewhere?

Dungeon Farmer by TheQiwiBoy 2020-04-21T18:27:06Z

You don't seem to have done the upload properly - you should zip up the Unity build folder and upload that.

Currently you have to download 3 files separately, and there is still part of the build missing

Imagine by AndreiOlenic 2020-04-21T18:35:36Z

Nice little game, though I had a few problem with bugs - missed hits on enemies, and the game seemed to occasionally jump back to the main menu without me not knowing what had happened. A bit of feedback when the game ends would be good, like a message to say why you lost (bear died, ran out of imagination etc.)

Feed Them, With A Gun! by Andrew-David 2020-04-21T12:13:13Z

Nice artwork and sounds, especially enjoyed the effort put into making the character look good when facing and moving in different directions. Follows the theme nicely.

The game did seem to slow down in pace after you get a few mice and the upgrades become more expensive.

The music did get repetitive quite quickly! I think if you want to use a short music loop, it needs to be simpler

BUBBLE BOY by NEKORUMA 2020-04-20T23:16:15Z

I found the gameplay quite uninteresting, but then again, tamagochis were always pretty boring huh? But the style, art, music, aesthetic etc. were absolutely top notch. Also very closely tied to the theme, which I feel many of the submissions are only very loosely linked.

The Harmless Prison Escape by MickGerritsen 2020-04-20T23:21:47Z

Very cool, such nice polish with the title screen zooming into the level.

My main complaint is that moving the character felt a bit clunky, when you know how to solve the level it takes a while to move each tile, and you can't hold a button down to queue a move ahead of time (if that makes sense).

But overall excellent job, making a puzzle game under time constraints is really impressive to me

Symbio by x_minus 2020-04-21T15:16:37Z

Yeah nice boid simulation but I'm really not sure what's going on  Even some basic instructions or a description of what to do on this page would go a long way.

I was also getting odd FPS drops, it'd be perfectly smooth for a while and then tank to single digit FPS for a while
