Hey man, solid entry for your first time in 3D. The models you managed to put out in just a weekend are fantastic. You even have some animations in there with the punching and everything.

As for the game itself it was also real fun. The controls with the mouse was an interesting choice, I'm not sure how much easier (or harder maybe?) it would have been with just key presses, but the mouse lets you aim a bit more precisely. I think you got the speed and turning rates down perfectly. I liked how there was a little freeze every time you hit a guy. It added a bit more impact to the punching that's for sure. As always your compo entry was great even as you try some new concepts like 3D.

Wish I could say we had an entry for you to try this time but with the social distancing guidelines in place we decided to sit this one out again. We could have worked entirely online but we have much more fun when we get to do it all in person, not to mention I feel like our entry wouldn't be as solid. Until next time hopefully!

THIS IS YOUR FIRST 3D GAME??? What a great entry. I really had a blast. The sliding was great, if zany at first. Just riding around felt fantastic. But once I found the brakes it was time to smash bots. And smash I did!

I have one question: will you make more of this game. I'd love some loops, some long curving ramps, maybe some pipes full of bots to smash. A driving synth soundtrack. There's a lot of potential for more. Also what is the lore behind this place?

Great work again pkenney!

Woah I loved this, this reminded me of a classic arcade game turned 3d! The models were cute and the sound effects were as well. Great work! A soundtrack would definitely take this to the next level (no pun intended) :p

Good job on your first 3D game! The mother was funny (fuck, why:D). Movement with mouse was interesting choice, it was very hard for me on the touchpad. I would recommend you to zoom out the camera a little, so the player can see the enemy flying on impact. All things considered, great game and good job on finishing.:)

brandann 2020-04-20 22:56

Had a good laugh at "No. Stop. Please. Don't." Steering was hard to get control of, which was an excellent addition to the challenge!

This game has a lot of potential if a soundtrack were added, and maybe color coding, or otherwise differentiating between waves of bots...Can you imagine this on the oculus?!

All in all good take on the theme, very fluid; both animation and movement controls.

That really felt a lot more polished than I was expecting - I appreciate 3D can be really time consuming to get looking nice (I had to switch from 3D to 2D at the end of the first day), and the cute style of this really worked.

I really liked how the bike was animated and felt to drive, impressive how you got the ramps at the sides feeling decent given the time constraint.

Gameplay got repetitive quickly, and the controls felt a little clunky - it was hard to slightly adjust the direction.

Nice getting a bit of humour in there with the mother voice - this is the first game I've given a decent humour rating.

Congrats on your first 3D game!

great game! the controls feel butter smooth but i think running over the bad guys should be more satsfying, did i mention the graphics? because they are GREAT except the starting menu which i couldn't understand, a solid 4.7/5

I'm starting to understand your trend of exploring challenging controls :) I fear to see what kind of full, commercial game you would make...

I very much enjoyed the gameplay. One of the first things I noticed was the small pause when you hit something. That's actually not really that common an effect. It felt as good as when you eat a ghost in Pacman, which is one of the best examples of that effect that I know of.

The controls were very fun. I like it when a game shows you a possibility where you're like ok I can do that, but then you struggle to achieve your vision. In your case I mean how you can see a huge line of guys lined up, where you're practically salivating, and then you miss half of them because the angle you're landing on from the halfpipe is off. My biggest combo was 12x which was super satisfying.

Lastly, I think one of the more interesting things I noticed was that there's actually a few decision points in the game. For a simple design I didn't expect to make that many interesting decisions, but they were definitely here. I was always gauging how much I could get away with focusing on points and not defense (kinda like your previous game). I would think "ok, I can go for a couple scoring attempts before Mother will take damage" and try that. However, you can also MISS hitting that guy who's about to hit your base, so your decision-making was based on how confident you were in saving your base, so I found that to be surprisingly challenging.

I don't particularly have any constructive criticism but I think you could get some good bang for the buck with new enemies which I'm sure you're aware of. The reason I want to highlight that is because I could see that adding a LOT to decision making. You only get short glances at the enemies in this game, so if you saw some faster enemies you'd quickly have to change your route or consider going back on defense. This is definitely a really intriguing core concept and I loved that you gambled on making such difficult 3D controls. The game is way more interesting because of it.

I ride a bike IRL and the game looks pretty realistic ;) Really good for a first 3D. Keep it up!

This feels so fun! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/dDzogWGpxXA

This is a really fun game! I saw one of the updates you posted about it and instantly knew I would want to play this game first, and boy did you not disappoint! The controls feel really nice, the visuals are pleasant, and the gameplay is surprisingly satisfying!

In terms of criticism, I think that this game could be even cooler with a soundtrack (even just one song) to keep the energy up. I also found myself having to constantly re-center my mouse because I had to go back and forth to hit all of the enemies. Actually hitting the enemies proved to be challenging, but I think that's just because I have very poor aim.

Overall, super fun!

endurion 2020-04-22 16:33

For 48hours this is really really good!

And even a first 3d game, sounds almost unbelievable ;) I did it on my second attempt. Controls are mostly good, only problem I have is with the hard brake. It feels I always turn way more after braking making me miss my intended goal. But it's really satisfying hitting a whole row of them (combo x10 was my best)

Well done!

banzi 2020-04-22 17:39

Awesome! It felt really polished and it was a great experience. At the start the controls felt a bit too fast and it was hard to alight it with the jumps of the enemies (sometimes they jump away at the last moment or the mouse is a bit too sensitive at times). The art and sound effects go well together. Keep making 3D games, this one was definitely well done!

adam-konig 2020-04-23 00:37

For a first 3D game this is great. The audio combo sounds are great love that they rise in pitch as you make combos. The bike was super fun to ride around even if you weren't attacking enemies. Only feedback would be more attack patterns as it gets repetitive, but great entry overall!

team-wala 2020-04-23 06:28

Love the concept and art. The controls i felt were a bit difficult to use. Would have preferred the the wsad controls rather than the mouse control.

carlofalltrades 2020-04-23 06:29

Congratulations! Nice work done in 48h! Controls are little clunky and annoying in my humble opinion. But i think that this it a good base for a good racing monoclying game.

jose-rodriguez 2020-04-23 14:40

Nice job! I think you did great in 3D, there is no way back now!

I love how you tunned the physics, it feels great, very responsive yet a little loose/drifty, glad to see you added the drifting/handbrake control to sweep around, loved doing that while taking those suckers out. Tried my hardest to get out of the arena but couldn't find a way out, excellent.

At first I was a little baffled by the controls at first but was able to get a hang of it and enjoy it. Personally would have like to be able to control it with the xbox/steam controller but the mouse works great too. I agree with a previous comment, regarding a soundtrack. I would add the floor/sides could have been more neon style with some emissions and reflexions.

Overall another amazing submission for your solo jam record. Excellent job.

linky439 2020-04-23 19:50

I loved it!

Great innovative controls, super nice-looking game, overall very fun. I am not sure I have understood how the scoring works with combo but I ended with 12 750 points, which is OK for me as M.O.T.H.E.R did not take a single hit.

Would have love even more some more varied enemies (at least they way they are spread on the map as they are always in a straight line) but what you did is alreay really great. Congrats!

shaubbyplayz 2020-04-24 01:22

Nice innovative gameplay with a very cool idea. Only if you get in the riight spot you can go in circles and beat everybody. Other than that good job, especialy for you first 3d game.

blotosaur 2020-04-24 01:25

Controls are the main thing you're fighting in this game, but it makes for a fun challenge. Nice game!

rjhelms 2020-04-25 04:58

Woah, great showing for your first 3D game. I've never been so brave in a Ludum Dare.

The controls feel just right, which makes the whole experience a joy. Well done!

eva 2020-04-26 13:26

Feels nice to play. I got all of them. I wasn't really encouraged to use the ramps though, stayed around the center most of the time driving slowly.

acidmanrpgz 2020-04-28 01:34

The models and graphics were cool, but maybe put some post processing on. The gameplay felt a bit odd because of the mouse based controls, but it was fine, I got used to it. The absence of music was a downer, but the sound design was fine, particularly the "Oh No" whenever the base got hit ! Well done on this game, particularly since this is apparently your first game?

monish-vyas 2020-05-05 09:58

Awesome game my man. That to you managed to do in 48 hours. Loved the models had some cool animations. Best feeling was to hit 9 bots in a row in single drive. Overall a very solid entry and really fun game to play. A background music track would have been cherry on the cake.

I came here to brag about my 9000 something score only to realize people have scored more.

spacewizardj 2020-05-11 01:45

I love this entry! The mechanic is simple but challenging! I really like the control scheme, the bike feels good and it's just on the right side of difficult to control. If it was easier, it wouldn't be fun. I wonder what this game looks like in long form? If you took the premise and made it into a fuller game, what would it be? Good job on art choices to make it fit in a 48 hour jam! I got 17400 and I even used the DPI switch on my mouse mid game to get more accurate turns ><'
