LD42 — Running out of space

Nuclear Arms 6: Waste Wizard's Tricks by Logicon211 2018-08-14T01:34:38Z

Fun game! It reminded me of Contra!

A Blob's Life by pkenney 2018-08-14T01:22:15Z

Hey @pkenney just finished playing your game, running from the shark was great, I shouted at it more than once, characters have character!

I really liked the game mechanics and the graphics were once again on point, congrats on one more Jam! When I could swear I finished the game after I went into a blue monster buffet in a corner of the board, but i think I got too big and ran out of space and kill myself!

Congrats!

SuddenlyBunnies by jcwelgemoed 2018-08-20T03:02:00Z

I like the idea of the game, but I ran into some problems playing it, there is something happening at generation of bunnies, maybe physics collisions. I'm sure with a couple of bug fixes this game can be fun, I can tell a lot of details went into it, congrats to you and your daughter for the submission!

Corrupted Space by egordorichev 2018-08-14T15:57:31Z

@egordorichev I think this is an excellent submission, the biggest issue I see is relation to the theme.

I enjoyed playing your game, the pixel art is spot on, but I specially enjoyed the gravity mechanics and the puzzling levels in general.

I felt disengaged when got to the blue and green squares that make you bounce(gravity change), I felt that I have little control to stop my player from jumping into the bullets, that and the screen shake that takes place during this bounciness, made me stop playing.

The other obstacles were fun, running away from the bullets felt good.

Good Job!

Urban Planning by reuno 2018-08-14T02:23:08Z

I like the graphics and music, the water blobs are hard to hit but that makes it fun, specially when they hide behind things. Nice Game!

I really liked the artwork and music, good job on 42!

Extra Trash by tgb20 2018-08-14T21:17:56Z

Overall a really nice game, I enjoyed the graphics, 3dmodels, ambience, animations among many other details you put in, the controls felt smooth too. Well done!

Dumpotopia by DjeyCreations 2018-08-17T20:24:16Z

Excellent job on the game, vey impressed by the art, while sad the variety of obstacles felt really good, not sure how to deal with the big fish, he seemed inmune to the sound waves. Nicely done!

Collapsing Mines of LUMDOOM by Gus the Shark 2018-08-14T02:43:20Z

Love this game, well done, the graphics and music are great. The Mushrooms were great, thanks!

Storage Overflow by Andreas Roschal 2018-08-14T01:44:23Z

I couldn't complete a delivery. Those drivers were pissed and were quick to fire me, I don't blame them. I think the game was well executed and played smooth, good job!

Dumpin' Stars by AntonioNP 2018-08-14T17:35:36Z

Yama___ (@yama) , and AntonioNP (@antonionp) *

The thing we liked the most was the art, thematic game and concept!

I tried to play by myself, but was not successful :( brain splitting for sure. I think single player is kind of a must for the jam, the 2 players is certainly a cool factor too. Then I got my wife over to play with me and things got better, I like the goal behind it, it felt good for a bit.

The thing that disengaged us was the physics, I think it was great for the trash but not for the whole truck, once things got busy I was constantly waiting for the truck to be respawned into place just to spawned into a flipped position. Maybe locking axis on position/rotation, locking Y pos and and X/Z rotation would be interesting. There where some issues with acceleration, once it gets up to speed and collides, it does some weird things, sling shot kind of. There is a glitch on music when spawning new object that also didn't sit well with the experience.

I feel I didn't say many positives things here, I completely relate to the difficulty of the timeline and I'm sure that given a couple more days my review would be different. Cheers! :)

Space Shipping by RubixNoob13 2018-08-14T03:20:52Z

I liked the game, we can relate to the struggles, the space trips and the good feelings, it's all about 42!

LD42 Running out of Space by Gary Beebe 2018-08-14T01:57:32Z

Hi @gary-beebe, would love to rate your game, looks pretty cool for what I can see, but for me the field is too white/bright, can't see the bullets and hardly can see the ships, upon loading http://www.gbeebe.com/games/LD42 I get a javascript exception, maybe thats messing it up, here is the stack from chrome.

lstr.js:26 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'appendChild' of undefined at lstr.js:26 (anonymous) @ lstr.js:26

Cheers!

Melting Ice (Running out of penguins) by Leetchi 2018-08-14T21:27:43Z

Nice Game, I really thought that boat was going to safe some, but that was not the plan, I enjoyed the pace and music, graphics were nice. Controls might want to show a glow around the area the penguins are reacting, great otherwise!

Space Collapse... SpaceCollapse.png

Our team is in for the first time! We are Going out of Space!

Here is the plot: - Asteroids are being attracted by the Sun. - You are the only one that can save humanity. - Take command of the Ice Space Ship and help contain the Heat!

A Short Video of the work in progress. https://youtu.be/Fv_JnLJdMJ8

Greetings!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:03:16Z

@flashviper That's exactly how we felt! It's staying. Thanks!!!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:08:20Z

@blurred-lines I agree, we could have tweaked the camera a little bit more. This was our first time with the cinemachine targetgroup component in unity, lots of flexibility out of the box, can't wait to experiment more. Thanks for your comment!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:31:33Z

@fizzpowmike1 It was all an experimentation and discovery process, when we first started, the spaceship bullets were able to cool down the sun(size would go back to original after enough shots), so sun was really your main target, the flying mechanics of aiming seemed a little complex, so we started flying mostly orbiting always pointing to the center and that became a space drifting "skill". We didn't think back to it once we got in orbit with the rest of the tasks, this was a crazy weekend, Cheers! and thanks for the comments!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:35:15Z

@mccarlp thanks, I have to check those out, deep in my heart I keep "Geometry Wars", I might have drafted some inspiration from it, but I can't compare them, "Geometry Wars" is king!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:42:12Z

@michael-wingfield @maartene Totally agree, all I have is LDJam excuses for you guys, check out my previous post to @fizzpowmike1.

The best I can recommend is to fly in orbit, without letting the space bar go, I use the arrow keys and drift my way around, pick up capsules as you orbit and use your spaceship to hit asteroids too, everything is game, bounce against the Sun to pinball your way around.

Hope this give a different perspective, sorry you didn't like it. Thanks for all feedback!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:48:12Z

@rafiki you got it, you certainly beat the game. We didn't really had much time left, so we try to loop it in a way that would let one wondering if it has ended, glad you felt that way ;) Once the earth is gone is game over!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T03:59:46Z

@welliton I have to try flying your way! But even if I learn, you will always be the Best Pilot! Thanks for saving us many times, and all the kind words.

High Tide [html5] by SuperQGS 2018-08-14T02:30:38Z

I just love getting in the water, can't get enough!

FoxyPops by Mammabouter 2018-08-20T03:14:01Z

I enjoyed playing the game for a little while, I like the foxes, congrats on the submission.

I think it would be nice to better show the plants as they are added, they took me by surprise many times, it feel like I didn't get a chance to avoid them and that was disengaging. At some point I was also able to grab both foxes, not sure how this happened(more than once), the game was way easier like that!

Good job!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Motobot Defender by pkenney 2020-04-23T14:40:43Z

Nice job! I think you did great in 3D, there is no way back now!

I love how you tunned the physics, it feels great, very responsive yet a little loose/drifty, glad to see you added the drifting/handbrake control to sweep around, loved doing that while taking those suckers out. Tried my hardest to get out of the arena but couldn't find a way out, excellent.

At first I was a little baffled by the controls at first but was able to get a hang of it and enjoy it. Personally would have like to be able to control it with the xbox/steam controller but the mouse works great too. I agree with a previous comment, regarding a soundtrack. I would add the floor/sides could have been more neon style with some emissions and reflexions.

Overall another amazing submission for your solo jam record. Excellent job.
