Fun, fast-paced bullethell-esque game.
The sound design is fantastic.
I love the ambiance.
A more visible cursor could be fine (for chosing direction)
this seems like it was probably a pretty fun weekend for you all
Dude! I thought it was going to be lame because of the graphics, but I was wrong. Totally lolled at the Silver Surfer homage. Great concept and game play.
Awesome. That champion was too tough for me. Audio was fantastic. I was getting a Black Sabbath vibe from that title announcement, can't think what song (But you've disabled rating for your audio sadly). The story was quick to grasp and really added to the mood. Great job.
Really liked it, especially the audio, the "announcements" give it a arcade feel. I did have a few movement issues a few times though, got stuck on the north and south walls, not able to move forward, had to "a" and "d" to get moving again.
Fun game! It reminded me of Contra!
I am loving just about everything about this.
Another fine entry into the venerable Nuclear Arms Saga. Todd Howard can go cancel Elder Scrolls 6 for all I care, I don't nee any other games in my library than these amazing titles. It looks like you guys have a lot of fun with these. It definitely shows in your work. The gameplay was fun and I liked the cut-scene too. Somehow though, I almost felt a little underpowered. Maybe longer lasting powerups or more solid sounding punches could help. I missed you guys in LD41, glad you are back! <3
Glad to be back Arch. Thanks so much for the great comment.
Great job on your game you guys! This definitely takes the cake for the most 'fun' game i've played yet! The mechanics were awesome and you guys really nailed it. Only critique I can give is I noticed the movement would bug out every now and then when I would be using multiple movement keys in rapid succession to really try to dodge some of those abilities and my character would not take my movement inputs or my character would be stuck running in one direction and I had to lay off pressing any movement keys for a second or two before I would have control back. Other than that amazing game guys you should be proud!
@liven I can't believe we went through the whole weekend and didn't think of that. So simple. Maybe next time!
@wavertron Sorry it was a bit hard! The random element can make the game much easier or much harder depending on which powerups you get. And I agree the music is great! But since we didn't make it we didn't want to be rated on it.
@arch We're glad to be back! And also that you enjoyed the game. It's always great to see a fan :D. Trying to balance this one was hard to get it to feel just right due to how we decided to spawn powerups. But we did indeed have a good time trying to figure it out.
@logicon211 There is always something like this
Pretty funny, pretty fun.
Never in all my Killbaning have I deserved a Meltdown like I deserved this one. Your games exist on this impressive knife's edge of difficulty where it's never too easy, but also never so hard that I can't see victory with just ONE MORE TRY. I just can't walk away without winning.
Usually I've managed a win in something like a half dozen tries. But this time... Well, they say that surfing is a demanding activity, and I surfed so much I can still feel the soreness from the tension in my neck as I battled those trashbots again and again. I came SO CLOSE so many times.
The design is dense with good ideas. The larger basic trashbot forces you to learn to dash if you don't want to take hits, and while he seems like he can be ignored when lots of trash is around, he is relentlessly pushing it toward you, closing gaps and boxing you in. Then his buddy comes, with those damned rockets that ignore the trash obstacles! If not for him, you could shield yourself in a trash igloo and ignore all but what's right in front of you. But no. And overall there is a wonderful tension between taking care to avoid hits, and the gradual accumulation of trash on the battelfield acting as a clock and forcing you to play briskly. The end boss has a wonderful escalation of the tension between trying to hit him and trying to clear space to not keep eating the trash-skipping rockets coming at you. (Tho I really wished for a better indication of when he was allowed to be hit vs not, it felt a little raw that this escalated his difficulty so much)
How you find these balances, I don't pretend to understand. But once again your ideas have come together into a blast of a game that really tested me.
That's why, when I finally saw the Wizard's face erupt into a series of explosions, my hands shot up in victory. YES!! I DID IT!!
It was at this moment, in this pose, hands held high and off the keyboard/mouse, that one last rocket hit me in the back and killed me. That's right... no meltdown. Just more surfing.
That would not do, and so I rolled up my sleeves and buckled down to get a REAL meltdown. I had to learn the ways. This was when I figured out how to master the dash to attack the big bots (I could have used a little on-character animation cue to indicate a full charge btw), and I learned that the shadows predict where fists and trash will fall, and must be avoided. I studied my kung fu, and upped my game.
And finally, I earned it -- a REAL meltdown.
I have to say that I've enjoyed your previous entries, but this one steps it up a level in quality. Some of that punk-rock basement rawness and minor technical issues you used to have seem replaced by a growing skill level in terms of tech chops and little details. The art and sound are all working together with the gameplay toward a really cohesive package, and all of the interactions felt good.
I'm not quite sure what the guy says when you speed up and he says "He's so fast! Thanks, _____ _____" But the game is metal enough that I decided it must be "Judas Priest." I also cracked up when Killbane was like "What trashstar?" What a guy.
I think maybe the knife's edge tipped a little way toward the difficult side this time, so I made you a little present:

@arch Always, always puts a smile on our faces to see a returning fan.
@pkenney At this point, we always look forward to your reviews. Sorry that bug slipped past and stole your first meltdown, but I'm so glad you managed to get past it.
pkenny it's great to read your comments every time we put out a game. Love hearing your thoughts on our games. Yes this game did lean towards the harder side, great to see you were up for the challenge and grabbed that Meltdown.
@pkenney Haha wow, thanks man! I do have to agree with you that we might have made it a bit 'too' difficult. Though I'm glad you enjoyed it either way. It always feels real good when all the pieces come together even if a few things still turn out a bit buggy. If we could change anything now it would be to make it obvious when you can hit that wizard. Maybe some kind of particle effect to show he's invulnerable?
We always appreciate your review. Especially that you managed to power through and make a 20 minute gameplay video for us. You definitely earned that meltdown
BTW, watching that video now. Once you've figured out the dash you become a real pro ;D.
Edit: Oh man that ending.
Why isn't there an Audio rating? I want to give this game at least 4 stars for the music alone. XD
I did run into a weird bug: towards the end of my run, the controls didn't seem to want to work properly anymore. Other than that, loved the combat and the announcer voice.
Well done
Great game, love the jokes and gameplay.
Loved the voices in the game, Found a few issues with movement sticking and not stopping but didn't cause big problems, overall good game and humorous. Well done!
things got hectic fast but it was hella fun ..... great game dude
What a great game! I love the audio in the game, especially the voice announcements. You guys got my 4.5 Humor rating for the jokes and the fun gameplay! Congrats!
Hahahahah this is a gem! I mean really, it's rare for LD game to left me wanting more so much. Shame that game is so short but it is really fun. Could be a little more challenging for my taste but still it was dynamic and entertaining. I really like the intro and the humour, the whole idea of making LD game around some character is pretty interesting. The graphics are pretty colorful and busy but still it is easy to navigate in the game and see the important stuff. The voiceacting is pretty neat and music fits the mood perfectly. Well done!
Looks fun as hell! Are you all going to publish it??
You guys need to pitch this for [Adult Swim].. (Voice Acting has done wonders for this rough gem)
I'm so glad this exists. I'm definitely following this series from now on.
Really fun game. Great job
Haha, really funny game, i love the jokes and the graphics, great job!
Great game!
congrats for the game. very funny!
The game was definitely funny and congrats on making the sixth installment in a series. I liked that there was a story. Figuring out that aiming with the mouse would also kind of determine how wasd would move me was not super intuitive. Overall the game was a fun experience and I like that there aren't too many steps to get to the Wizard. I didn't beat the game but it was interesting.
The game is definitely hard, but fair. And I like the sense of humour. The aiming with the dash was a bit hard to pick up on, but it felt really good when it worked
Voice acting is great!, I wish the default weapon was any of the power ups, using the lazer and the shotgun was when I felt the most engaged. Also I think that can contribe to the crazy theme you guys have going on. Overall great game.
I saw the 'Nuclear Arms' and knew I had to see the latest entry in the series. I was disappointed, but only because it ended too quickly. The voice acted lines are excellent, with my personal favorite being the 'that's not loaded, right?' for the shotgun powerup. Gameplay-wise, the garbage mechanic works perfectly, resulting in an escalatingly claustrophobic playing field. I'm always pleased to see proper bosses in an LD game, and the ones here did not disappoint. Good work!
Voice acting was great, explosions are excellent. When getting the laser the player movement kind bugged sometimes. Btw the cutscenes are the best! Great entry!
This was such an awesome experience! Super fun. Great use of the theme, with all the the trash limiting your mobility. The story was a big bonus, it's amazing you managed to cram that in along with the main gameplay in just 3 days!
lol, I loved the voice acting and the moood. The story telling also adds so much to this game. Also, the fact that this is based on a series is awesome. Good job guys!
Please rate us back <3
Controls get sometimes stuck :(
Very fun game, loved the humour and obnoxious sound design, really in-line with the game. Congrats
@11tomi12 @kmce When the controls got stuck, were you playing on the browser version windowed? If you move your mouse out of the box then it won't track its movement anymore.
If so I'd suggest giving it a try in fullscreen. That should solve the issue.
This games is rated M for Manly. Also, nice reference to the NES Silver Surfer game in the game over screen.
I had fun playing it. The laser beam was my favorite super-power since it makes you feel powerful and untouchable. I haven't played previous "chapters" of the game, but the idea of using each theme from LD as part of the series is terrific.
You already played our game: The legend of the looter and the incredible backpack that never runs out of space, so we can't do anything but thank you. 」( ̄▽ ̄」)
So much was done in a short time! I loved the voices (one reminded me of Rick from Rick and Morty hahaha). Sound was good, powerups felt great. The worst thing was that the controls would lock up and I couldn't move around and would have to let go of all of the keys, and even then it might not work. But overall it's a solid entry!!
@drums Glad you liked it. Could you tell us if you were playing on the browser in windowed mode. It's about the only thing we can think of that would cause the problem. Clicking outside of the box would lock up your controls until you click back into it but if that's not the case for you then maybe it was something else.
@logicon211 HTML5. I think I was able to replicate by simply moving all around, diagonally and such without letting go of buttons. Not 100% sure though.
I'm a bit unlucky that my mouse's left click is more or less wasted, slow and sluggish so the game got really hard really fast. But I like the cut-scenes and how the game cut back to them mid-fight too. That's something you don't see very often in LD. I must also say that I'm a bit envious that you've made a series of games with the same character. Sound effects were nice too. And the way the game spawned you right back at the start of the fight when you died urging you to have one more round, also a really good detail.
I liked the Graphics, and the Gameplay was fun, Nice Game.
