LD42 — Running out of space

Nuclear Arms 6: Waste Wizard's Tricks by Logicon211 2018-08-14T01:44:25Z

Great job on your game you guys! This definitely takes the cake for the most 'fun' game i've played yet! The mechanics were awesome and you guys really nailed it. Only critique I can give is I noticed the movement would bug out every now and then when I would be using multiple movement keys in rapid succession to really try to dodge some of those abilities and my character would not take my movement inputs or my character would be stuck running in one direction and I had to lay off pressing any movement keys for a second or two before I would have control back. Other than that amazing game guys you should be proud!

Don't Fall In Love by chaotikza 2018-08-16T09:59:38Z

Hey there! I enjoyed playing your game got to around 55 points. I liked the art you had for your game it made the game nice to look at and definitely was a big factor in my enjoyment for the game. The only problem I had with the game was due to some game mechanics that I thought were redundant or didn't make sense to me and kinda made the game not fun. I didn't like how if two mobs were lined up one behind the other there was no way to attack them without taking damage from the second one behind the first. I also thought it seemed silly to have a health bar and when you die you respawn on top of what you're trying to protect so there really is no motivation not to die. I also found myself camping on top of the heart waiting for the mobs to get closer because if I went too far out to attack some of the mobs then other ones spawning from somewhere else could sneak up on it and i'd have to chase them to the heart, so instead I sat on the heart and just killed anything that got super close.

Pick up space toys! by panda 2018-08-13T09:31:30Z

Really awesome, well designed, and unique game! Brilliant job well done. Only thing I would work on is I noticed for some items the picture you would replace them with would be lighted differently or a little offset so that there is a visible line outlining the stitched picture. For a game made in 3 days though I wouldn't expect you to have gotten a 100% seamless and error free game.

Encumbered - Deckbuilding Inventory Action by impbox 2018-08-14T07:56:49Z

Hey there! Great job on the game. I am a big sucker for deck building games so I was filled with glee when I saw that someone made a deck builder. I wish there was a guide to explain the rules of the game because its very hard to just pick up and go and understand how everything works and your goal for each level. I wish there was some audio for the game as well. I think you did very well with the graphics for the game and the core concept is awesome! Good job again :)

Knight's Crush by Zaphire 2018-08-16T09:10:05Z

Hey there. Your game is pretty fun and I really enjoyed the graphics for the game and the idea of the memorization while your time is running out. When the jam first started I wanted to do something with the roof or walls closing in on you but ended up going with another idea me and my partner had, so I was really excited to see that you decided to implement a mechanic like this in your game! The only major issues I had was that on level 3 you could just jump from the beginning of the hall onto each pad past the pads with images on them so you didn't need to memorize the images in the room prior. On level 4 the pads at the beginning were hovering too high above for me to even jump onto so I had to give up there? I would have liked to have had some audio for the game to really set the mood and inspire me to play the game. That being said I thought you did a great job on the game for what you have so far, I think you should spend some more time to really finish this game up and it'll be perfect ^-^

Edgy Fantasy Battle Deluxe by Shess 2018-08-14T08:48:57Z

So happy to be one of the first to play your game! Whoever your artist was, please give them a big pat on the back for me because the art in your game is AMAZING. Honestly the art and animations for the game is what made 90% of my entertainment from playing your game. I really enjoyed the using the magic and managing my resources on the tile board. In terms of game mechanics I wish that it was easier to choose which tiles to use the magic on because "aiming" the indicators onto the tiles I wanted were somewhat challenging for the 2x2 magic spells. I also managed to kill the boss without the need for guard so I think you should tweak it so that there are situations where you will need to use guard. I managed to survive by just out healing the boss and dealing damage most of the time. Overall this was an amazing game and you guys should be very proud, this game is amazingly high quality for how much time we had to over this weekend.

Zumo : sumo wrestling for animals by rargrave 2018-08-13T11:08:23Z

The game's concept at it's core is awesome I just wish there was more! That's a good problem to have though. I think maybe the game deserves 1 more mechanic to spice it up a bit. Maybe an item spawns that buffs the player with double knock back or resistance to being knocked back! Good job on this game jam though!

Too Close by Zayah0_0 2018-08-15T06:21:55Z

Hey there! Good job on the game I liked the movement and the art you had for the game! I understand your electricity went out so obviously its not perfect, but that being said I think the game deserves some audio to really enhance it. I would've also liked more indication when my character was attacking than just the little red box on his arm. The level design was really cool though so kudos!

Hopping for More by Poio 2018-08-14T08:21:34Z

Hey guys, great job on your game! I really enjoyed the jetpack mechanic you had it was very fun haha. I think the movement needs a bit of tweaking because I think the astronaut's acceleration and max velocity may be a bit too high and his inertia is pretty crazy as well. Other than the movement being pretty tough I thought that this was a great game you guys!

Inventory is full by GDLuke 2018-08-13T09:21:34Z

I had a lot of trouble using the items by dragging them off the screen like instructed. In my opinion it may have been a better idea to have the 'use' mechanic trigger through a bit easier of an input like pressing a key. I do like the idea behind pulling it off the screen though its something I haven't seen done before, although in execution it didn't pan out so well. When mobs would explode into multiple items I had difficulty picking them up quickly, I don't know if that's lag or error on my side.

Hidden Hearts by toad 2018-08-13T10:29:32Z

I loved the mood and the art style of the game! Top notch work on all that stuff. I don't know how you would fix this workaround but I managed to cheat on your game by double clicking on the background and it would highlight the background image and leave all the interactable images unhighlighted. I liked the scrolling to progress in the game!

TUNAPADTWA by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2018-08-14T08:08:59Z

Hey good job on your game! I liked the audio you used for your game and I like the idea since it gives the player a nice sense of progression buying the houses and filling out the starter zone. I wish jumping was bound to the space button instead of k. I also found it really hard to jump over the enemy mobs. I don't know if that's only me. Regardless, I loved the atmosphere of the game so nice job on that!

Rey Trace by WiredOverload 2018-08-14T01:56:31Z

I agree with @netguy204 on the controls comment however I don't feel like it took away much from my enjoyment of the game 9600~ high score btw. The game was very fun and I loved the audio you guys used.

The Sand Will Bury Me by anacat 2018-08-16T09:28:26Z

Hey guys, great job on your game I LOVED the mood in this it's so perfect you guys really nailed it home on the mood for this game. I wish the tutorial was a bit more clear, I spent a good couple minutes just pressing the space bar and "failing" the level because I didnt realize what I was doing and I also didn't even realize that I had failed the second level where the game is supposed to show you what the space bar does. Other than that a small completely subjective thing i'd like to comment is I really disliked the levels where the key to solving the puzzles were to not move at all, kinda defeats the purpose of having a game as fun as yours where a quarter of the levels don't actually let me move around the board. Other than that I thought your game was really unique and a good time to play. Would've liked the option to turn down the volume a bit though, but I understand if you guys didn't have time to setting something like that up. Cheers guys!

The Adventures of Stickman in Macrosoft Doors! by Scott Purcival 2018-08-13T09:48:53Z

Good job on the game! I really liked the assets you used to create your game, if they were all done by you then amazing work! Only thing I would change is tweak the movement controls so that the character doesn't have so much inertia, I lost a lot of enjoyment because it was too hard to do a basic jump right in front of me because I would go flying half way across the map.

Growth Rates by kalcoslinder 2018-08-14T02:19:31Z

Yes I wish there was an explanation of how to play somewhere in the description. The game was neat though.

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-13T10:03:48Z

@anstabo thanks a lot of your helpful comments and compliments! The idea behind the fire was that after demons die they would drop hellfire so I didn't think something more 'solid' like lava would fit. I get what you're trying to say though!

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-13T10:19:40Z

@aret24 thank you so much for your kind words!

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-13T10:57:34Z

@frontlinesaint @rainysolar ,thank you so much you guys for the kind words.

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-13T10:59:46Z

@falk-bruskeland yes I definitely agree with you. Me and @corgiram 's strong suits is definitely programming and audio is a bit of a weak point for us but we gave it our best for the time limit we had! Thank you for your feedback!

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T01:27:18Z

@donitz thank you for your kind words. @corgiram is definitely way better than me at our game haha. My highscore is only 43 I think he got his to around 70~.

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T01:29:06Z

@ghen Thanks for your response Ghen. I think I agree that the aiming and movement mechanics could be tweaked to fit the style of game a bit better but I think for the scope of what we could accomplish in 3 days the mechanic ended up working ok for us.

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T01:30:20Z

@sozey Yes a longer sound track would be better, thanks for your advice! We were so busy with polishing the core mechanics of the game before deadline that we had to cut the length of the background music by a bit to make up for the time factor.

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T01:31:23Z

@wavertron Thank you wavertron for your kind words! Me and @corgiram aren't the best at graphic design but we tried our hardest for this game jam!

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T02:23:11Z

@purrfexionator Thanks a lot! I think if given more time we could've implemented more levels to change it up a bit in that regard. Unfortunately we didn't have time for that since the both of us were hard at work perfecting the first level and the mechanics for the game. The game is meant to be an arcade style game so the content and enjoyment should come from trying to get a better high score and improving at the game. Thank you for your advice though!

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T08:23:43Z

@robowarrior1982 Thank you very much for your compliments! We may come back to the game at a later time and see if we can't get some music that is perfectly matched to the game's theme.

Pack-It Down! by Dani 2018-08-14T09:13:12Z

Fun game! I wish that it was a bit easier to control the items once you grab them. I also would have liked some audio for the game, that would've enhanced the game a bit more and made it more enjoyable. I thought the concept was fun and enjoyed my time playing your game. Good job overall!

Progression || Degeneration by JustinSix 2018-08-13T10:41:03Z

Not a bad game overall man, great job for your first game jam! Only critique I can give is to keep working at it and adding more content and mechanics so that its a fully fleshed out game. Good job!

Forklift Simulator by CrispyPin 2018-08-13T10:16:03Z

Hey guys, great job on the game! I loved the sounds and the graphics so great job there! To be honest I think the game play could use some changes to make it more fun. With the high score indicator it makes me think this is supposed to be an arcade-like game but there really is no threat of losing anytime soon so I think the pacing of the game should be sped up a bit to make you really sweat and work harder to organize your space! I never really felt like I was 'running out of space' at any point in the game. I also felt that the colors weren't clear enough considering in the start menu you place a regular box on a brown square to start the game but repeating that action during the actual game will end up with you losing the game.

Summer's Lease by WrenPirate 2018-08-14T02:36:04Z

I really enjoy games like this one. I wish there was more to look at though as the text scrolls through the conversations like some background pictures to set the scene more for me. I also would've really enjoyed some soft background music to accompany the game. It also would be really helpful to add a left click function that auto completes the text that is currently being typed out so that if a user is a faster reader than expected they don't have to just sit there and wait.

Microbiota Panic by hanin 2018-08-14T08:53:44Z

Hey guys, I enjoyed playing your game! I really liked the art and eating up all the food was pretty fun haha. I think the only thing I would work on is changing the audio a bit because I felt it was sorta out of place for the type of game. Overall job well done on this game jam though!

Crumble by anstabo 2018-08-13T09:39:04Z

Nice job on the game! My main gripe is that I believe the physics for the main character should be tweaked so that its max velocity isn't so high. I found controlling the character to be more challenging than getting around the map and surviving the crumbling structures which I believe the main intent for challenge was supposed to be coming from the structures crumbling and not the actual movement mechanics. I loved the graphics for the game though and enjoyed the game level on the web version quiet a bit!

Crumble by anstabo 2018-08-13T09:54:09Z

@anstabo of course! I forgot the name at the time but I believe your character's inertia might need some tweaking to make movement a little easier to handle. I had a lot of troubles making adjustments in the air which if I could adjust where I am landing while in the air that would be top notch!

Ludicrous Lift by ConnorH 2018-08-14T01:51:38Z

Hey guys! Good job on your game. I wish that there would be a cancel pick up button that would return the gentleman you picked up back to his original spot. I also found it pretty disorientating that I had to input movement keys after picking someone up using the movement keys to select which square I wanted to act upon. I'm not too sure what I would recommend instead maybe have less grid strict movement and allow the player to move anywhere he wants and then let the enemy characters snap to the grid when he places them down. Considering the time you had to code this game I think you did a great job and the game only needs slight mechanic tweaks to make it a really great game!

Ludicrous Lift by ConnorH 2018-08-14T01:52:21Z

Forgot to add that I love the background music!
