Good try !! Gameplay is a bit difficult, fumbling with both mouse and keyboard :). Hopfully you continue to work on graphics , fonts don't match the game theme.

i like the style and i like that you of curse run out of space.
I really liked it!But as @vivek-sharma20 the game is pretty difficult :/
Thanks for the feedback @vivek-sharma20 it was our very first game jam ever! We are definitely more programmers than we are graphic designers, but hopefully we can improve more!
The idea is interesting and should be worked on more, the combat feels great so kudos for that ! The fact that the flame is physically blocking me is a little bit weird in my opinion, lava wall would be more fitting ?
Nice game! It's pretty fun, and I like the music to go with it. The combat is pretty cool, although I didn't realise it existed in my first go, haha. Good job!
Very cool idea !!!! I very like it!!!
@anstabo thanks a lot of your helpful comments and compliments! The idea behind the fire was that after demons die they would drop hellfire so I didn't think something more 'solid' like lava would fit. I get what you're trying to say though!
@aret24 thank you so much for your kind words!
clever idea suits the theme well. good entry
The game matches the theme perfectly. Some audio adjustments could make this game even better!
Really enjoy it! Great concept for the theme.
@frontlinesaint @rainysolar ,thank you so much you guys for the kind words.
@falk-bruskeland yes I definitely agree with you. Me and @corgiram 's strong suits is definitely programming and audio is a bit of a weak point for us but we gave it our best for the time limit we had! Thank you for your feedback!
Congrats on your first game jam. Graphics were simple but nice. The cracking effect on the player was nice additional visual feedback.
Pretty good concept and execution with a few bits that feel like it could really make the game better, design wise: - The mouse aiming feels unnecessary. I'd much rather have had a pure keyboard control scheme where if I walk left, I face left, etc, and the attacks would face where the player faced. - There's no way to deal with fire, and that means if you get trapped behind some fire you literally can't do anything. I get that the fire should feel entrapping, but it would be good to achieve that and still give the player a way to feel like there's nothing to do but to quit the game. OR some kind of suicide button/mechanic. - The music is a bit repetitive and jarring.
The overall presentation is pretty good. I don't know what the glowing enemies did later in the game but it's good that there seem to be some kind of ramping up besides just the space being consumed by the fires :)
@tuism thanks so much for the in depth feedback! I definitely learned alot from this being my first game jam!
I agree there should be a way to restart the game when you are trapped. There is a way to destroy fire, by picking up the water bottles that occasionally appear.
Thanks for the feedback on the music! I am very new to making sound effects and music and I'm primarily a programmer but I'm hoping to get better at everything!
This is a really nice concept, very fitting with the theme. The graphics are simple but clean, I particularly like the reflection effect on the sword when turning around. The sound effects are nice but maybe a longer music track could make the game a bit better.
the mouse control for facing and keyboard for moving, with top down perspective for me never end well, it always disoriented me, but other than that, the movement and attack feels ok and snappy, i love the particle you put after the enemy dead, it just give more feedback, i also like the consistency of the art, well done !
And I thought I was clever for surrounding myself with fire like some type of Ninja. Do'h.
It's a nice concept for a game. It adds a tactical element rather than just having the player attack everything in sight.
The graphics are quite nice, especially the fires.
@donitz thank you for your kind words. @corgiram is definitely way better than me at our game haha. My highscore is only 43 I think he got his to around 70~.
@ghen Thanks for your response Ghen. I think I agree that the aiming and movement mechanics could be tweaked to fit the style of game a bit better but I think for the scope of what we could accomplish in 3 days the mechanic ended up working ok for us.
@sozey Yes a longer sound track would be better, thanks for your advice! We were so busy with polishing the core mechanics of the game before deadline that we had to cut the length of the background music by a bit to make up for the time factor.
@wavertron Thank you wavertron for your kind words! Me and @corgiram aren't the best at graphic design but we tried our hardest for this game jam!
Awesome Game! It was pretty fun slashing through hordes of enemies and avoiding the fire they left behind. The graphics were pretty cool, and the game played well! There wasn't really a lot of content here, and it was far from perfect, but I enjoyed it! Nicely Done!
@purrfexionator Thanks a lot! I think if given more time we could've implemented more levels to change it up a bit in that regard. Unfortunately we didn't have time for that since the both of us were hard at work perfecting the first level and the mechanics for the game. The game is meant to be an arcade style game so the content and enjoyment should come from trying to get a better high score and improving at the game. Thank you for your advice though!
Definitely a 5 star for the theme. The mechanics are really satisfying. My screen was probably a little small cause it cut off some of the game window. But overall a really great game.
Strong work! Even this 1.0 version feels complete, which is a big deal. Yeah, the music is repetitive, but that's appropriate for a game like this. I agree that facing the way I'm walking would have streamlined control over the player, even though I sometimes fought as I was retreating. I felt a bit like I was rubbing my tummy while patting my head. I could use more water, but maybe that's just me; I played ten times and only grabbed one flask (and died immediately after deploying it.) The fractures in the player's armor are a nice extra visual. I still don't know what the hearts on the side are for. I liked it!
Woah fun stuff! I got 45! I thought the controls were clean but I did get annoyed because I kept trapping myself in the fire after killing enemies. I guess I should've been killing the enemies strategically but I sure wish there were more frequent water drops!
@kalcoslinder thank you for the feedback! The game is slightly rectangular being a 10x12 grid, so if your screen isn't very wide it may cut off. If we come back and improve the game I will definitely look into improving the resolution scaling!
@wrenpirate thanks for the feedback! It was definitely a challenge to balance how much water you get and making the game too easy. I also agree that the controls could be streamlined, I tried both mouse/keyboard controls and keyboard-only controls. I felt with mouse/keyboard the player could do a bit more, but keyboard-only is definitely more simple and easy to pick up.
Cool concept, excellent integration of the theme, a mix of action and reflection! The graphics are clean, the sword is a bit slow compared to the speed of enemies! but the music does not stick to the rest. It's nice and fun game, good job.
@robowarrior1982 Thank you very much for your compliments! We may come back to the game at a later time and see if we can't get some music that is perfectly matched to the game's theme.
Very good use of theme, easy to play and had some good fun, well done!
I really like the game feel in this game. To my taste, music gets a little bit annoying after a while but the game is fun to play.
Good mood! Great fit to the theme, really easy to start to play thanks to small trick like being always turned into the enemy's direction and efficient controls. Then quickly you understand the difficulty of the game and needs to plan your actions, very clever. Feedback and animations are good. Music is ok but does not re-enforce enough the ambiance, could be more stressful. Buttons of the menu could be more integrated into the theme, using a different font and dedicated sprites. It could be more dynamic by using effect like screen shaking when being touched. Great entry and cool overall experience, congratz :rocket: :fire:
@nidup thanks for the great feedback! I would definitely love to revisit the music and UI, they were somewhat rushed near the end of the jam and I agree they don't fit very well with the mood of the game. It was our first game jam and we definitely could have managed our time better!
Nice first jam! Great to get a working game together in the end :joy:
The mouse right click doesn't seem to work in the browser, thus I could clear fires. Also, I think fire should hurt the player when getting to close, so you can't run to fast without burning yourself.
@corgiram, you were right! Our games are very similar, except for mine being ice and yours fire of course. I found that I went for a long time without getting any water in my last attempt! I expect this is a random drop and I was just unlucky in my RNG. I liked that you had the option to modify the sound before starting, was thoughtful. The little twinkle animation to say when your attack is ready again is clever, although I thought it took too long to reset - only a tiny bit though, found myself running more than attacking. Great first jam entry!
Great concept! Mechanics are well implemented, level design solid. Challenging but fair, as the sword movement is slow but keeps you from feeling overpowered. However, graphics, mainly typography, are lacking polish. Audio needs work, especially the music which is far too repetitive. Keep it up though! With a few tweaks this would be a great entry.
Nice entry. The menu screen with the character is a so good idea to get the controls!
Amazing first jam entry! I really enjoyed playing and found myself laughing or cursing at the little evil flame guys. I liked the audio track, it really felt appropriate with the graphics.
What are you playing as? It is a rock that cracks? Either way I thought the cracking and the potions were really intuitive and had a lot of fun. Thanks for posting!!
@mshopf thanks for the feedback! Having the fire hurt the player is an interesting idea, I might explore that if/when we re-visit the game!
@jamesolivermusic yeah, the audio and UI was a bit rushed near the end of the jam and I really would have wanted to polish it up more! I'm also very new to creating music and sound effects, but it was really fun and hopefully I can get better for the next jam!
@draeskai and @steffanie thanks so much for playing I'm happy you guys enjoyed playing! We tried to make the gameplay feel intuitive without having to do a full blown tutorial in the short amount of time we had for the jam!
Pretty fun game, although it was a bit frustrating getting stuck on all four sides sometimes.
I'm going to disagree with some of the other comments in here. I actually enjoy having the character control as WASD and the looking around with the mouse. Maybe I'm just used to RPGs where that's common. If you plan on working on this game further, maybe consider adding an option for keybinds or a setting for mouse/keyboard vs. keyboard only?
The game itself was really fun! Definitely challenging and requires quite a bit of strategy to last more than a few waves.
The hardest part for me was trying to get over the traditional play-style of similar games, where the goal is to survive waves/as long as you can. In those, you just have to focus more on your positioning relative to other enemies, but being forced to question if it's a good idea to kill an enemy or not really makes it difficult (in a good way).
It reminds me a bit of the enemies in the Stardew Valley arcade game, where certain enemies turn into (temporary) blocks when you kill them. They're used in that game as mostly a strategy to block off the other enemies. This game is a really good balance of using that sort of strategy, while at the same time not blocking yourself in.
Great game! And thanks for doing a web build!
@svntax I agree it is frustrating to get stuck on all four sides. If I revisit the game I would definitely add a way to quickly reset the level without dying.
@laurim thanks for taking the time to give all that feedback! I'm happy you enjoyed the game! I definitely put a lot of effort into trying to balance strategy and difficulty. The possibility of adding options for keyboard/mouse and keyboard only controls is interesting and may make the game more accessible to more types of players. If I revisit the game I will definitely explore the idea!
I like the shine on the sword to let you know when you can attack again! I feel like I died randomly at one point, though. Does something bad happen if you don't defeat the enemies fast enough?
@jamison thanks for playing our game! Enemies can do a ranged attack that they charge up, look for enemies that start having a smoky dark purple effect, that will explode and damage you, so you need to kill them before they explode. There is a sound queue as well if you play with sfx on. If I revisit the game I would definitely want to improve the indicators for the enemies ranged attack to make it more obvious and stand out more!
Thanks for sharing your game with my stream! Controls felt good to me. I enjoyed the high score challenge setup. I feel like it might have felt easier if the player started with water and the water spawn rate started out higher then slowed down as you survived longer.
The crackings in the armor and the shine on the sword when it's ready are really nice feedbacks ideas. Tho I didn't understand the enemy were charging a ranged attack at first. Had no problem with the controls, took a couple minutes to feel at ease. As an artist I would have liked more polished graphics but it's simple and fits the music, and it works, and that's the most important. I enjoyed the game overall :> It's a clever and well done idea.
@ursagames thanks for playing our game! That's a great idea for the water spawn rate, that we didn't think of for the difficulty curve! If we re-visit the game I'll definitely look into doing something similar.
@kinsei I'm happy you enjoyed our game! I really do want to improve the feedback for the enemy ranged attack! As for the art, we didn't have a dedicated artist or sound designer, we are both programmers, so we are still learning in those areas!
Solid game, and a web export. By default that makes it great! ;D. But yeah the game is on theme real hard and it's pretty fun.
Good job
