LD42 — Running out of space

Johnny's Flipbook Space Adventure by schizoid2k 2018-08-14T01:47:11Z

This was pretty fun! Thought the theme was well thought of and the sound effects were quite quaint. The only constructive feedback I have is the enemies should be restricted to the same space constraints as the player is, they fly straight over the areas where the pesky little brother decides to rip out some of the paper. Well done mate.

Johnny's Flipbook Space Adventure by schizoid2k 2018-08-14T06:09:48Z

@schizoid2k you make a valid point. Who am I to question the physics of a UFO? They are beyond the realm of my understanding. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: If you get a chance, would you play my game and provide some feedback as well - it would be great.

Crazy Slime Escape by Nats 2018-08-15T02:54:56Z

Great minds think alike, my game has slime as well that need to be avoided. Some cool mechanics and concept you have. Well done.

Space Junk Jettison by Mark Smith 2018-08-14T01:53:16Z

Was fun, but as someone else mentioned - I spent most of my time looking at the radar rather than the actual environment as I knew I had to avoid the asteroids "at all costs". Good work. Check out my game for a different take on the theme.

Spaceship Slam by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2018-08-15T01:12:28Z

Was loads of fun but felt like the burst of speed was a bit much, didn't leave much control left of the ship.

Chroma Jump by crazi456 2018-08-14T05:11:00Z

I really enjoyed the puzzle aspect to this. Music was cool, just as wacky as this game, great work! The player animation needs a bit of work, when you jump his right foot looks very bizarre!

The Game Collector by Sebastian-M 2018-08-15T01:02:58Z

got to Score 910. This was fun and simple. I enjoyed that the generation of the console got newer as you went higher and I also found myself risking the console toppling out so it would create a wider base to use. great fun and I may even play again! I'd love to get your feedback on my game please.

We Need Space! by BigJigglyProductions__ 2018-08-14T11:20:13Z

Nice work on the procedural generation, our game also uses procedural generation for our different stages. Is interesting to see how others put this together. I felt the tutorial could have explained more detail, such as the UI elements.

We Need Space! by BigJigglyProductions__ 2018-08-14T11:20:40Z

@memel06, hey man! I remember seeing you around in the comments on LD41. Check out my game when you get a chance and I'll do the same for you! Edit: I just saw the reason why I remember your name.. you made SCARRY - I still tell my friends about that now when we talk about using a mic as a game input method.

Void Knight vs PEST by Memel06 2018-08-14T11:34:42Z

@memel06, this was enjoyable to play although I felt as though my mouse would often get too far away from my player to make the swings fast enough(although this is more of a complaint on myself rather than the game - not sure if there is a way to restrict this) Funnily enough my game uses a similar mechanic with the mouse rotation while WASD control player movement. Also we both use a "teleport" feature, I felt that it wasn't very effective however as it didn't teleport you very far in the direction you are walking and you couldn't teleport through rocks. We overcame this by turning off the collider while teleporting.

I mentioned this on another page where I saw you comment, but I remember seeing your game from LD41 - SCARRY. Seems you enjoy making this darker type of theme with the eerie music vibe. As from LD41, your music and SFX were on point.

Keep up the good work mate, well done.

Evolucity - Build as high as you can! by Mazzletov 2018-08-14T12:05:43Z

Great work, good concept. Camera control needs a bit of work however.

When Life Gives You Lemons by sebastianscaini 2018-08-15T03:41:20Z

Amazing artwork and I'm loving your animated blogposts, they are what drew me to this page! As others have mentioned, the intro and tutorial are so good. We use a similar mechanic for shooting in our own game, let me know what you think. Well done.

Cluckbait by Del Nordlund 2018-08-14T22:29:22Z

A lot of fun and a great art design. It was a little easy and could benefit from additional levels of difficulty so you can pick up the pace as you go along. Loved the little jokes that weren't in your face, such as the bikini photo in the top right when you win!

Would love your feedback on my game also if you get a chance.

Export Corp. by r3c0d3r 2018-08-15T01:29:46Z

The music and concept are cool. As others have mentioned, the tutorial needs a little work. Great job otherwise.

Ice Blocked by Nerobius 2018-08-14T01:11:06Z

@corgiram, thanks for that feedback mate. We fixed it last night and the latest build no longer has that bug. I'm glad that you enjoyed playing the game, we think it is a lot of fun too. I'll check out your game when I have a chance. Thanks for playing @Borys, the art and sound effects are amazing, right?!? How many levels did you get in? I've found that the game gets far more difficult around level 4 and up as there are more portals. Either way, thanks for playing and I'll make sure we look into the spawn times.

Ice Blocked by Nerobius 2018-08-14T11:07:40Z

@bredera, thanks for playing :smiley:

Ice Blocked by Nerobius 2018-08-14T11:09:06Z

@shadowghost, thanks for the feedback. Was there any sound effects in particular that were monotonous? We typically had between 4-6 sound variations for each sound effect (except PhaseWarp, I'll admit), but I can imagine that may not even be enough variations for the sounds that are regularly played, such as the fireball.

Ice Blocked by Nerobius 2018-08-16T05:39:45Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

@huskyez, thanks for the specific feedback. We didn't intend for the theme to be portrayed through the small levels, in fact the levels actually get bigger and bigger the further you progress through the game. That said, this is definitely an area that we want to tweak going forward. Thanks again for the feedback mate.

Ice Blocked by Nerobius 2018-08-19T12:45:14Z

Hey @leif-einar-eide, as the levels are procedurally generated and we didn't have a story to tell with the gameplay, there is no end level. It will continue to get bigger and have the same number of portals as the level that you are on. We're currently working on additional mechanics and story based gameplay. Thanks for playing.

Happy Knight by Borys 2018-08-14T11:58:18Z

Awesome art work and the scene transitions looked seamless, great work!

The Lonely Moon by DanCan 2018-08-21T00:53:28Z

This was fun, but definitely needs better instructions. I got to 2.6 mil at the end before the moon's gravity took everything off course.

Bandwidth:Zero by Trevor Hayes 2018-08-15T01:21:32Z

Good bit of fun, however I found I could just run from the enemies and they would never catch me nor intercept me for any new spawned enemies.

Trial by Fire by CorgiRam 2018-08-14T11:49:52Z

@corgiram, you were right! Our games are very similar, except for mine being ice and yours fire of course. I found that I went for a long time without getting any water in my last attempt! I expect this is a random drop and I was just unlucky in my RNG. I liked that you had the option to modify the sound before starting, was thoughtful. The little twinkle animation to say when your attack is ready again is clever, although I thought it took too long to reset - only a tiny bit though, found myself running more than attacking. Great first jam entry!

Plague Runner (HTML5) by Human Person 2018-08-14T05:17:45Z

This was quite hard, but really enjoyable. The instructions were well written and detailed. Are the levels procedurally generated or preset? Well done.

Petra by cassowary 2018-08-16T07:00:51Z

wow this was so much fun. I love puzzle games and this ticked all my boxes. Played through to the end beat it all. The last level definitely takes a little bit of imagination. Well done!

A Bar In Space by Fluffy_Kaeloky 2018-08-14T12:10:37Z

Great work @sgtweirdo, was a lot of fun and is also good for remembering where keys are on my keyboard! Found myself having to check where the numbers were a lot as I rarely use them so the muscle memory just isn't there lol. Could also have a slight penalty to your score if you hit the wrong key (HARD MODE maybe?)

The Legend of Cactus by Astericon 2018-08-14T05:03:55Z

I really liked that you used the arrow keys to throw the bombs, it did take me a little bit to realise that however as the instructions weren't clear. The audio doesn't always play and I only realised it had audio on the 2nd or 3rd level. I think it was a cool concept however.

DataSkream by Sollara Games 2018-08-15T05:55:14Z

Really fun, I was often finding myself falling down the cracks or trying to jump too late! Nice concept, well done with this. Would love your feedback on my game also!

Elevator Maximum by happyhour 2018-08-15T02:15:39Z

Nice work man, animations are cool. would be cool if the blockers attacked back or something to make it a little more difficult.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Frozen Deep by Mads 2021-04-27T08:45:28Z

Loved the concept, let's hope I hold my spot on the leaderboard.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Railgear by Hadik 2018-04-23T10:28:36Z

Game was fun, but I noticed that the max speed didn't upgrade once I bought the 2nd upgrade for it.

The system design was really good though.

FetchQuest Rally by nuclearfriend 2018-04-24T05:08:34Z

Far out, the voice audio is amazing quality (with great accents)! Awesome work.

Need for Fish by joh 2018-04-24T05:22:34Z

This is awesome! How can a game that seems so simple be so bloody difficult to win! I eventually got there (thanks to shark power). While it seems simple, it is still a lot of fun and the sheer amount of fish makes it interesting to know how fast/far you will go with each bite. Great work!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T02:15:06Z

Cool idea man, I would have liked it if i could've changed the keys required for the lanes. I personally would've rathered to do it one handed instead of two handed. The music was really good too. If you are interested in original music, check out my game - all music and sound FX are original - especially the main theme at the start.

Once again, nice work.

Make up and drive by bldr 2018-04-25T07:14:23Z

So much fun! The teddy bear got in the way so much, wish there was a back seat so i could throw it back there. I noted the reference of the building that she ends up stopping at for her 'casting'. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Well done guys!

Scarry by Memel06 2018-04-23T12:26:26Z

So much fun, was just difficult to find the first cookie at times which felt like it dragged on a while without being chased... but when you did find it :| Thanks for sharing this, felt very immersed in the environment.

FARMACY by Rawrasaur 2018-04-23T11:34:02Z

Thanks for the feedback Aterlamia. Yes, unfortunately we ran out of time to fully implement some of the features that we planned. Character animation would've been a great feature to have implemented too.

FARMACY by Rawrasaur 2018-04-23T23:38:38Z

Just got the final edit in before the jam ended - had some late night inspiration.

FARMACY by Rawrasaur 2018-04-24T11:02:29Z

@GiovanniBarrottu - your last comment couldn't be more true. All of your suggestions were functions that we wanted to implement but couldn't do with our time. Thank you for taking the time to play and provide your feedback.

FARMACY by Rawrasaur 2018-04-24T11:03:19Z

Thanks @Toryf, makes me feel like the time spent was worth it :)

FARMACY by Rawrasaur 2018-04-24T11:05:18Z

@t1m51mp50n - I'm glad you like it, we definitely want to improve on it and develop more content. Stay tuned

Guitar Fighter by johnnyjw 2018-04-24T03:09:11Z

Awesome theme. The execution is good, however it is difficult to keep focus on what key to push - this coupled with D and L-Click being the same colour made it difficult. The timing of the rhythm aligned well with the music.

Late Night Shopping by Kciwsolb 2018-04-24T03:25:39Z

Great fun, might be a little slow paced for my liking but it was still good. Got to 378 distance on first attempt.

Splitscreen Hide N Seek by PackNSlash 2018-04-24T03:03:40Z

Cool theme, movement takes a little bit to adjust to.

Trivia Runner by G4MR 2018-04-24T03:15:27Z

Good idea, I found that if I shot an ememy when it was right next to me it would bounce back and hit me again. Perhaps the shoot function should perform more damage as you get hit by most targets even if you shoot early.

00Boyfriend - A Spy's Dating Sim by SamStallion 2018-04-24T01:08:28Z

Wow, thank you for making this game. This has been the funnest game I've played so far in this Ludum Dare. The theme is great and the execution of the gameplay feels very smooth. My original thought was that it was too easy to defeat enemies if you were above them because they only shoot left and right, but then when I got hit by the rocket launcher I realised that there was more mechanics involved than first met the eye. Great work guys, I had lots of fun playing it.
