LD33 — You are the Monster

The Monster In Me by echokain 2015-08-25T18:43:00

That was great, sucks that it just stayed at the end screen, should have auto-restarted. Found my round fairly interesting :) Nice job!

Hitogochi by OnionBlaze 2015-08-26T16:26:00

That was pretty good! but why such a tame "eating" should've wewnt the whole way!! Ill try some more to see if taking only the arm was a "better" outcome then some.

Kraken Babies by johnhattan 2015-08-25T18:18:00

Pretty cool, was it normal there was no music? it had some at first then stopper.
Otherwise clever mechanic and quite fun. not sure if fair though.

LD42 — Running out of space

Tetromatcher by Alchemic 2018-08-14T05:29:58Z

Good play on tetris, works well, quite fun. A bad play held me back, but the color matching allowed me to hold one way longer than I had any right to. Good stuff!

Last Land Heroes by joh 2018-08-14T17:37:59Z

>Interesting seeing balance issues, I actually found the game too hard and nerfed it(made easier). The attack delay does get quicker though, just wanted people to get far so its at least competitive. (used to max at at around 15) Game should get more challenging after wave 18. (maybe I was just bad at my own game.)

Last Land Heroes by joh 2018-08-16T02:34:06Z

Thanks for all the nice comments!

Unfortunate that it's a too easy. I mean, I clearly died so I thought it was challenging enough. The receipts don't lie though.

Very surprised that sweeping the field works, Made it so enemies would have faster reclaim then the player.

@alchemic Very nice read, Super impressive scores, it seems you outplayed the game, but it wasn't very efficient. To be fair I didn't account for that so its nice it went that way. Yellow bar is xp and levels up, I capped it at lv 5 so things got harder; you stay the same but foes more numerous & no more health refill.

Level up increases your claim range, refills your health and increases claim speed.

Red number (square) Is your level

The points you get are: * "Xp" of monster killed.(undisclosed but relative to how far in you meet them, king gives most) * 10 points per tile you claimed at round end * Double that if no tiles were lost (Perfect bonus) * 1000 per wave

thus your better score was probably from keeping more tiles

Red number (Diamond) Is Claimed Tiles/Tiles left

The "Brownie points" Are Your **personal** points. You get points for all the reasons listed, but some are your own and others are "general"(big score). Reason for the distiction...

>Game was supposed to be multiplayer, Thus every player (4 corners) Could have their personal score, with the big one being the group score. Monsters you didn't personally kill (suicide) don't count and neither do the wave bonus.

>wanted to have a **co-ompetition** style gameplay of teaming up to win, while competing for mvp status. Too bad jam time though.

Don't know if you rebooted the game, but the 23 should be your current "best wave" and 30998 "best score".

It is possible to lose your last tile, it gives a gameover and thats why I didn't think you could "cheese" the game. If you just avoid monsters attack, and land to claim the tile, at one point enemies will claim it faster then you(through numbers), causing gameover.

White mage was meant more as support, making walls to stop enemies (keep land safe) while (theorical) allies could kill em off. Warrior was meant to tank, but be bad at actually killing. Fire was meant to be to be a glass cannon, killing machine, but die fast.

Seems like I blew the balance, but its nice that it seems to be fun nonetheless.

Eblobla by Steing 2018-08-15T01:33:52Z

This was nice and fun! I feel it was a bit lacking in clearness (jam, i get it) But ounce I figured it out, it was very cool. I do think at one point I managed to have things under control(stacking shields), so perhaps some balance issues, but still a clever little game nonetheless. I got to feel the running out of space where I couldn't place what I wanted because I was out of room! only problem was... its because I was doing too well! Its a charming game and stands out positively! certainly unique & fun.

Nooooo! by YANIV 2018-08-16T03:17:00Z

Good idea, great game, quite addictive, but really hard. I think the controls were a bit off, for something so "tight", but was still fun to me. The click to restart, is not a good idea, especially with how much retries are needed.

Fun stuff.

Pervertica - CCG by mitus 2018-08-18T02:20:14Z

I thought this was a cute game... im not so sure it was a cute game. That aside,(still looked slick though) It was a very good and novel idea. The balance was off though, way too hard, as weird as it might seem, playing the same notes on retry could have helped a lot. difficulty 1 is that the note pattern and rhythm don't feel right. sometimes it seems random, other it seems to follow the beat(That could still happen randomly, but I assume it wasnt). difficulty 2 is the space. took me a while to realize I had to time it too.(comic shows it, but it wasnt clear on my first go) The space requires to unfocus from the main bar, really should have merged them somehow, say a "rythm line/flash" with the space tempo. >incidentally writing the above made me realize that *you CAN* miss notes (which tends to happen when you want to hit the space),doing it willingly helped me perform better, but its super counter-intuitive. rhythm game & missing notes is :/

Opposite notes are also super mean.

Might have seemed harsh but this really is a great game & idea, full of potential, just unfortunate it is so hard. Looked great and lets be real, you used The most unique interpretation of the theme (Bit, forced when you spell it out, but I had thought about it myself, just no super cool implementation as you did)

Great job!

Train Hustle by Howard Duong 2018-08-14T07:20:03Z

What Have I played! Why am I smacking bums? I'm the one that looks like a bum! What's with all the money? and why are so many people coming in?! and how do they take out the trains!!!

So many questions, and yet it was nice. Funny stuff, chilling cries (not really) Good going!

NOOR by PNghasemi 2018-08-16T03:33:07Z

Wow this is great, very unique approach to the theme, quite polished, well done. Only have to agree with how its quite harsh & difficult.

Very impressive still!

Storage Overflow by Andreas Roschal 2018-08-17T18:06:07Z

This was great!, very impressive responsiveness, used the theme well. I liked! I think trucks took a bit long to show up, but perhaps that was to cause the filling of room. And yeah, some of the boxes are certainly questionable!

Good going!

Inventory Wars by saoi-games 2018-08-14T06:47:18Z

Wow, this is Nice! Started a bit... simple. But I like How it got more complex and challenging! Not sure how I'm supposed to fail, so far so good, but yeah clever stuff! Having to read the descriptions, especially when some are trivial, some say a lot and some look trivial but are relevant! Its got a story too, kind of neet.

Get to Work! by Deprecat 2018-08-15T03:35:04Z

This is crazy! I actually recognized you (from last jam) in the comments of another game (avatar) and found my way here! Good to see you're still in this. And quite a nice game too. Very beautiful. Fun too, fits the theme, Good job! Its a bit challenging, especially without knowing whats to come. In a weird way it benefits from replays so you "learn" the level. (doesn't change right?). Could benefit of collision warning (going red, or maybe not knowing is part of the challenge) Also, can keep playing during game over.

Cheers!

Slay the Spacetris by Shinta 2018-08-15T02:40:24Z

Ok, this was cool! Good use of theme, innovative even, the running out of space doesn't seem like "The" point, but is rather a consequence of playing. You get literally limited by space in terms of tools usage, nice stuff. One thing though, is there a way to win? I managed to remove all the blocks, got rid of all green and all blues and was left with only red and nothing to do with them. Near the end I discovered transmutation and got blue blocks to fill in an extra upgrade, but ended up 1 short! (I'll admit I thought it was by design, and the way to clear the game!)

Regardless, the fact that I even got that far in is testament to the game. Quite fun.

BOX IT! by Laminariy 2018-08-15T02:56:55Z

Awww, So much potential! Simple, to the point, looks nice, fits theme and fun! It only lacks in mechanics really, I read you wanted to add more boxes and that would be key really. At this point its like a speed race (and Ai too good!!!) and already fun. I can only imagine with added depth & strategy. I'll support that RNG seemed flawed for this type of game, should be mirror match. I also think being able to move boxes from both side could be beneficial. (take away bomb from your field, return box in opponent field). Quickest fix would be more bombs, shouldnt be matches without bombs, they "shake things up" from pure speed battle. (and are the only reason I ever won.)

Great game. Worth exploring further.

EPIC THEATER by filgreen3 2018-08-15T02:00:04Z

Interesting but I have to agree with the pacing being slow. On one hand I kept failing at placing everyone due to time limit (was I supposed to?) but on the other, the way everything moved slowly, and the extra clicks needed went against the whole "rush" I felt I was supposed to have, made it like it wasnt my fault I couldnt place everyone in time. And yet, still did fine & won. I didn't even need to play particularly efficiently. Good placements offseted too many bad ones, so perhaps balance issues.

Still, Plenty of potential. I'm sure groups, position preference and even "vision" concerns could be nice features to add.

crushED by DaviHayato 2018-08-16T02:54:16Z

Bit of a bummer that there were so little levels, but build your own path was a great idea. Worth exploring further!

Aperature XP by Johan Vischer 2018-08-14T07:11:03Z

This looks Great! and plays nice. Well done on the emulation of windows, very nice. the game itself is simple, but turns up the challenge at a good rate. discovered hax such as selection for better performance! Kind of wish more challenges showed up, not sure why I would ever unzip the files seemed like it only made things harder. Maybe adding having to run some of the anti virus files, or fake anti-virus files could be somewhere to go. Good stuff.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

The Orion Trail by Archimagus 2018-12-09T22:51:55Z

Hey, beautiful game very impressive looks, I'll admit it felt a bit weird to play. Too easy at the start, then quickly turns too hard because you run out of everything and you can't get everything back equally. (or maybe you can and its just a hard game) The choice did feel random at times, sometimes one choice was clearly optimal, most times they were fair but had nothing to do with each other. It was like choosing which reality you prefer, rather than which decision about one situation to take. For constructive criticism i'd say better feedback of what happened, lots of chance event and while you can observe which way things went, it would have been nice to have it plainly written. Also In between travelling is way too long, it doesn't keep player engaged and in the action. Overall id say more info, more number and maybe more drastic consequences. It's clear that the effect of our choices catch up to us, but it takes too long to happen and by then we are already on a doomed path waiting and hoping for a miracle that never comes.

On the bright side, it looks really nice, works well, has great audio and overall is a well polished experience. Good job!

Sacrifices Must Be Made by danman9914 2018-12-10T02:44:32Z

Well damn, now this is a great game. feels super polished and well thought out (yeah, even accounting the warren bug). crazy atmosphere, i felt spooked. Great use of theme, Just a great package overall! It was fun, it was captivating, It was scary and had a story, not too long, challenging, sacrifice on multilevel, I feel outdone, 5 stars.

You've got a winner in your hands for sure! Amazing job!

For the King by minibobbo 2018-12-15T21:52:38Z

Its a well done little game, good job! I got beaten badly when I tried to be clever, but cleared the game easily when I kept everyone together and used the optimum path. Could definitely built upon! i like strategy games and theres an interesting simplicity here. More incentive to break appart (say, unit types & chemistry) as well as more levels would be nice.

KeyboardGod by maskinmask 2018-12-10T01:14:44Z

Cute game, fun gameplay, great execution. I do have to say the bubbles are unreadable with the focus on the bottom of the screen (for directions), maybe they would have been better in the center, or simply actual dmg/healing prompt on the cat (& monsters). Except that, It all meshed well together, Good game!

FTD : Fixin' to Die by nuclearfriend 2018-12-09T23:26:09Z

Do I even need to go in-depth about this? Nailed it, that's pretty much it. I was really great, simple yet fun, very polished, great gameplay, great use of the sacrifice theme. Hell it was literal sacrifice. The voice acting, wow. hilarious and didn't even get tiring. "Don't send me to the light Doc", I won't buddy, I wont. Just the right level of silly fun. Amazing job, you've got a winner in your hands!

Super Sellout by Moski 2018-12-10T00:16:22Z

Well, what do you know, i've been meaning to play this for a while, was surprised to find out you played mine first. Its like an honor or something, thanks.

Anyways, It's a very nice game. Looks amazing, the polish is ridiculous, even the polish of everything outside the game is crazy. Y'all went above & beyond. The gameplay was neat, I'll admit to some issue with the controls (mostly jumps). Now the theme is where I have question marks. Is selling out really a sacrifice? In game it didn't feel like it, there's only benefits. Now the game does seem to get harder, but the added challenges seem to also help since they slow you down making it easier to pay respects. So selling out is like win/win. I think is because the jumping is off, but many distractions including slipping lets you skip or not need to jump. But yeah, thats more of a balancing thing and I see the intent.

Overall, great game, Its simple, fun, doesn't overstay its welcome and oozes polish. Congratulation, you made something great!

Demon Queen's Possessions by joh 2018-12-05T07:10:43Z

Thanks for all the nice comments! I do want to say, Yes there is a way to win the game! (campaign) I managed with (33 possessions, 13 kills and 34 sacrifices) but i've done it more then once, so there not 1 perfect path. Lots of possessions though. @matank @chaosed0 Campaign is actually deterministic, always same monsters, and they should always do the same thing (assuming you do the same too) I've actually made the wave to often allow perfect/clever sacrifice paths.

It's also important to remember that you can sacrifice "down" by using 1 high star unit on your side for many lower star on the other side: Yes, "downgrading" was instrumental to my clearing of game. (still need exact match though)

@wayen-k Sacrifice OPness is by design, it was the theme, I actually wanted to have a perfect path through no kill but it was a bit hard to pull off.

Demon Queen's Possessions by joh 2018-12-07T08:04:27Z

@legavroche Funnyly enough it was supposed to be "at least equivalent"(sacrifice>=possession) but I coded for equal and it worked well enough so I kept it that way. Did make handling possibilities easier and cancels efficiency of "farming star lvs) On the other hand, next fight preview is a good idea.

@stames You can!(as long the match is equal) @kornel-meszaros Tanks a lot, was rather fond of it myself!

@groggi , Thanks, I appreciate it. Dont give up, it is possible! thanks for playing.

Updated game page with tips & tricks for players.

Demon Queen's Possessions by joh 2018-12-09T22:11:15Z

@loadsofmana Thanks a lot, I'm glad you also felt the gameplay meshed well. I wasn't too sure of participating, but once I had this idea I thought, "what the hell, not too complex, fits theme really well, and I feel it will probably be fun." The art, was a bit reckless of me, I had the whole context and theme down from the start, but actual drawing of queen was late in dev, and I just got carried away with it, found it fun and thought it could carry information as well as life. Glad you liked it.

@maximbegunov **We got a champ!** Congrats, clearing the game is a very challenging task. I know all abilities, hell I designed some of the clever patterns to clear the game and I can still fail if I'm not careful. Your end state is also different from both I show (very murderous!), so good job!

The enemies not acting is due to randomness of opponent move. (was meant to have AI, but seeing how hard it was without AI trying to kill you, it was cut) It is a luck thing, but since seed are the same, it can be reliably counted on.

It was a very interesting game to work on, only came to mind thanks to the Jam & theme, might be interesting to pursue further, it seems rather liked.

@svntax Somehow missed you, but congrats too! Sounds like some evvvillll cheesing went through, but hey if you cleared it, that's what counts! I find it funny too cause one of the last quick fix I added was giving everyone an attack ability & at least 1 atk (troubadour had 0 atk, goat couldn't attack, neither the priest) and that was exactly to prevent stacking up levels against inoffensive foes. But yeah, making use of atk down is a clever workaround.

Thinking about it though, you would still need to know the proper stars to reach because high stars are useless unless it can properly match foes, so I'm sure great credit is still due. **Congratulation** and good job!

@rhewid Thank you and yes, I wished I had the time to show what abilities do (although I wouldn't have show what enemies can do, finding out is part of the fun of possessing them. I mean, who wants a goat... Until you know the true potential of goats?!) But yeah, glad you liked it.

@ponchoguy I appreciate it! I thought of multiple locals but started with one and never had time to add more. (would have obviously wanted the final boss being in a more proper location!). As for playing dress up with the queen, that's hilarious, yet such a proper feature for a full fledged experience! I did realize I forgot to give her a hat (crown) shame.

Thank your team, I appreciate the feedback!

Ethereal by foodzilla 2018-12-06T04:17:41Z

Really good game, elegant, fully functional and challenging. I felt the game introduced the mechanics at a good pace and in ways that their usage made sense even without tutorial. nice design. the last two levels were kind of hard though. Lots of trial error and piecing out what works. Still, was a great unique relaxing experience.

Party Card Game by red 2018-12-06T03:10:09Z

Did the AI actually try to win? I saw a cheatsheet but Knowing priorities is not very useful when you always play first ( thinking about it, it was probably random or at least couldnt see the card before I played it) but it did feel like they were constantly outplaying me. except when the opponets cards made it possible for me to guarentee wins. Does feel like a game that would benefit from human versus human. It is in a way rock paper scissors, but the added knowledge of the options available to each other adds a whole new layer!

Mary had some lamb to spare by 100th_Coin 2018-12-10T01:47:42Z

"Lamb".

That aside, It's a great game! Super polish, looks & flashiness are a bit lacking (and even then Its more than fine). But its just such a good Idea, its really well executed, game doesn't overstay its welcome(might even be on the short side) but I enjoyed my time with it. Its a great gameplay Idea you had, it captures the theme really well, is creative and fun. There's even some neat variety with all the sheep types. Cleared in one go! but it was close, so good job on the balance (at least, for me).

I don`t know what I expected going in, but this was really good, I was pleasantly surprised. Great job!

Zoe and the Polypantheon by Carraka 2018-12-05T06:24:59Z

Way too polished, like wow, felt like the real deal. incorporated the theme well, I was trying to be smart about things but I did end up spamming a bit. I'll admit, I feel I got a sudden end too was a very nice experience and I might try another one (yeah i felt robbed a bit, but the ending did have a point, i dont know why i did that.) Things work well, it is beautiful, great sound well thought gameplay, im not even a point & click person and I had a good time. Great Job!

Humanity Hero by Guilb 2018-12-08T00:47:56Z

Was cool, seemed very polished. Ignoring text might make it bit easier to be 100% utilitarian and reaching the goal. Did seem like the rounds ended with 1 pair left. Since that robbed me of a success, i'm a bit bummed about it. Still nice game.

Consilium - A history of life and choices by Gaming Night 2018-12-15T22:24:33Z

This is a beautiful game with a lot of feel. A bit simple in gameplay but it felt highly polished. The score did get me trying a few times, but the rules weren't too clear. I got the needed resource from the color (elegant display) but I didn't understand what led to harmony. from what I could tell there was no interaction between tiles. I feel that might have made thing more "stimulating" (through complexity) different tiles being next to each other having different effect(say slowing/increasing decay). it might loose a bit of the sacrifice theme, but if you want to expand on this, that might be interesting. Good job!

Gold Digger by SpaceMonkey 2018-12-06T03:48:43Z

Simple and nice, doesn't seem to have fail state but you only learn at the end that your... sacrifices were bad (ignoring the ethical argument) when your score gets destroyed. Oh well. Still nice! Thext was very blurry and art lacking, hope that post jam art thing works out. you got a nice fondation.

Fading Memories by schmavery 2018-12-05T06:48:29Z

Kinda messed up, messed up but nice. Good use of theme, nice idea and good execution. a bit on the simple side but its fully functional and works. Good game!

Sacrifice Them by velvetlobster 2018-12-05T05:41:58Z

Looks nice, a bit aimless (after collecting money, I too just spawned thing until I got stuck.) but its got potential. Your actual plan was neat though.

Ropasquib by Groggi 2018-12-06T04:54:18Z

Highly polished well thought out game. elegant minimalism oozing with style. Its funny cause I just played the game that was a bit like this and since at its heart it was an expanded rockpaperscissor game my mind saw the possibilities and Bam! here it is, actually accomplished and well executed. Not even some skin to hide the nature of the game, rock-paper-scissors(-quil-bucket) in its naked glory and yet it fits the theme. On two levels even. Could have benefitted from the having the relashionships show on screen (toggle or a non-intrusive interface element) and making the sacrifice ability more obvious. Only noticed it cause the Ai used it. Overall nice job!

AkimBear by ecmjohnson 2018-12-08T02:03:54Z

Great game! high polish looks really nice and is full of... feel? I can see the vambleer influence, great stuff!

You Get Two by justalocalhero 2018-12-05T06:34:54Z

Great Idea, I'll echo the wish of actually knowing what the actions were (beyond icons). Worked really well, although at some point I felt like I reached an equilibrium.(at cost of not trying anything new, i could remain perfectly healthy.) When I broke out for the hell of it i faced the opposite: constant bad choices led to rapid doom. (oh, I see someone else found the same thing) Anyway, great game good use of theme.

For Brain ! by nolifedev 2018-12-06T02:57:13Z

Very good, nice idea and done well. a bit short though.

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-15T21:39:57Z

Great jam entry with super cool levels, not too easy, not too hard, not too long. very good balance of everything. great music, sound and look. Very good job!

LD46 — Keep it alive

HEAL ME PLZ by Pietro Ferrantelli 2020-04-23T05:10:41Z

Amazing game! Had the same idea initially! Glad I didn't go for it because you have outdone my vision (and we all know visions are never perfectly reached) and its a clearly well made and fun game. The concept was great, added some quick paced action to what is usually more methodical (healer job).Kicking people was a nice way to have low key control of the other; yet still know we are the healer and our job is to keep the party alive.

Progression was nicely paced, I was even caught off guard by the boss battle. It felt like an endless game, yet having a small narrative and progression fits nicely a jam game! funny story btw.

Had the same bug pointed out by @rob1221dev , but that didn't really change my mind (+ im pretty sure it happened on boss death). Don't wanna spoil my rating, but I think this was pretty damn perfect! You got a winner!

Space Jelly Factory by Taldius 2020-04-23T05:39:04Z

Great game, a fun twist on match 3 game! The alien & machines make things spicier, but honnestly game could be standalone based on simply attract repulse! The game was rather polished had a tutorial, worked fine and had cool (fitting) beat! Seriously well done!

Tres bon jeu!

Shieldbearer by yscik 2020-04-22T04:14:55Z

Simple game, but rather nice, surprisingly hard too! does it get increasingly hard? after a bunch of wave, my character was turning like crazy! I like the whole scene though, it felt iconic enough and the small animation sold it well!

Substitute DJ by jayprog 2020-04-22T04:33:34Z

This is great! Very impressive! From great graphics to cool beat and compelling, yet simple gameplay. I liked what I played and thought how the different tracks mixed together was very cool! Plus, it was fun! great take on the theme, very nice job overall!

Food Chuck by PeachTreeOath 2020-04-23T03:20:56Z

This was pretty crazy! An interesting concept! I thought it looked great, played nicely. I do think it was a bit overkill in number of people and how they blew up if you hit them with the wrong thing. Did the game auto/smoothly restart? I feel like I started over without an actual "fail state", just everyone dying and I'm back to level 1. On one hand its a pretty cool way to go about it (no death screen, straight to replay) but I feel at least a prompt letting you know. (maybe I missed it) Now I'm thinking I might have died more than I think! It was a bit hectic! Good game!

Air Ball by joh 2020-04-21T20:46:50Z

Thanks all for comments and feedback!

@plutonium-powered The mouse wheel is actually not meant to be used... just some dev power I accidentally left in :sob: . Game progressively gives a wider view as hits go up!

@aerosoap Thanks! It's funny because I once tried to make one outside jam but scrapped it because I couldn't get it to work. Jam comes in and I get a totally different gameplay direction idea and I think it worked nicely! By the end of jam I even had a third concept idea of keep it up, but that will have to wait... if it ever happens!

@tad Thank you, must have been a bug, because that isn't meant to happen. Hope its a rare enough occurrence but I'll look into bug fixing. maybe you zoomed with mouse wheel? as I mentionned to plutonium-powered, that wasn't meant to be. Nonetheless it is my fault and I hope it wasn't too inconvenient!

Air Ball by joh 2020-04-22T05:21:47Z

Thanks again everyone!

@synystercola Thats an impressive score! Forced me to step up and make a new record! And yes color bellow indicates range, but the color itself represent the unit's "class" described on second page of help. for exemple, yellow can jump and red reduces the % of the ball. But to reach such a high score, I hope you got that... otherwise your potential is even higher

@magus77 Thanks, thought about it at the start, but dropped the idea but maybe I'll reconsider it.

@faiorb Strong score here too! and yes quick set up is something I wanted but had a hard time coming with a nice scheme. I though of dragging people, having screen seperated in move zone (near units) and aim zone (sky). but yes, this is an area worth revisiting.

@igor-kingamer Recruiting toward ball is a great idea. So far it is direction of movement to be "predictable" and because if you are fast enough (ie, before they cross the center) it tends to be a convenient direction. Left click/right click might make some sense, I think that was dismissed back when i wanted mobile potential.

I'll be sure to let you know when/if I update; thanks for the feedback!

@haoro Ok, this I am very curious about! How did that happen?! Thought I balanced things for that to be impossible! Even if you manage to create a setup where the % remains at 0 (which is possible) The base speed will keep on increasing assuring that sooner or later, you will break out of your loop angle (or it would go too fast to react)

Id consider such a setup an achievement in itself, but I'd like to know to... fix it nontheless.

@apos Very nice and I'm glad you did!

New record for the competitve folks!

Air Ball by joh 2020-04-23T16:56:07Z

@lethalturtle Thank you! Its good to know its understandable. instructions was the last thing I added (and in a rush) but I think the core gameplay is simple enough to be grasped after a few tries.

Also nice to have some art appreciation! I'm no artist, just dev and I'm trying to pinpoint a proper... "developer art" style. It seems to be hit or miss, but I think its charming!

@kjscott Hey! Thanks! Really cool seeing people trying to find the right combination. Theres no right answer, but definitly some strategy. Red are good to have, the prevent the % to go high and the ball to go crazy fast. blue has great range but increases the % faster and yellow got the jump! Highly effective but risky and prone to hitting ball out. If anything, Yellow should definitely be the last line of defense at extremities. I'm seeing some of that in @nurk crazy record!

@nurk Ok , nurk... How did this happen? I'm sorry about the camera bug, such a silly bug, but its very situational so I missed it. (Impact Zooms happen after 50%) but screensize perma zoom happen every 10 hit and save screen position. so when/if they overlap, it can lead to awkward zoom/camera position.

But back to you, Over 100?! thats pretty crazy, you dont even have a high red concentraction! curious how you went about it! Glad you saw the rain! that was my secret "pump up the difficulty once player clearly got this", but it couldn't stop you!

Air Ball by joh 2020-04-25T01:10:47Z

@synystercola Hey! Good to see you back! I have no idea how you managed to do this (there should be some short cooldown between hits exactly to prevent this) but I can see you did! Congrats!

@proforce Thanks for the feedback! It's something I'll look into!

Air Ball by joh 2020-04-29T02:15:03Z

Thanks everyone! @william-carlisle that was my aim, I had previously attempted a direct control version of this and couldn't make it work. (though I'm sure its possible and would be fun) I thought here the management side would be fun. You don't directly do anything, and yet it feels like you are in control and when "they" mess up, in a way; you did. It's very satisfying and its something i'd like to explore more. hard to pull off though (and perhaps not as appreciated) so it's nice to hear positive feelings about it!

@adamv Thank you, the Zoom was a must! I wanted to add a lot of the "magic tricks" to give life to a little game. Zoom, particles (though not enough!) & screenshake (it didn't work, but I'm happy it didn't break anything). theres also Zoom and Hitstun on big hits (150%+). I wanted to have camera angle activity too! ah, I'm remembering all the little things I didn't get to add!

Recruiting them away from the ball is part of the strategy, but I think it got a lot of people. **Picking WHO and WHEN (WHERE) to recruit is something that probably caused challenges for many**. However it's not something I can formally teach, because its not an absolute truth, just one of many strategy! (you could also just recruit & move ridiculously fast)

And yes, I'm behind project killer. Very cool being recognized on a totally unrelated platform! It's unfortunate that its on hiatus, but it was a seriously ambitious project I may have started before my time! I've been prototyping a lot since, trying to find a great, more reasonable project that is just as fun if not more! It's a bit hard though and I'm trying to have ready to show (and playable!!) before unveiling anything to avoid another dissapointing situation. Still love that project, and mystery games are a concept I'd like to explore further!

With that being said, thanks for bringing this up, means a lot and is very encouraging! Even if I don't post much anymore be sure to keep on following, for I'll be sure to post whenever I'm ready to unveil something new!

@rojola Thanks! don't let the difficulty intimidate you! as many have pointed out its a bit hard at the start. I've mentioned some tips in the above comment (see bold), but a good starting trick is to recruit people while they are far from the ball and then move them. Also make sure you cover most of the ground with your units range. avoid yellow units until comfortable, their jumps can be a bit less predictable. Hope this helps!

Pet Slime by Aceofsquares 2020-04-21T06:04:33Z

A fairly simple game, but a working one, well done too! Presentation was surprisingly great for something that seemed so simple. The balancing of the actions too, although I did feel like it was too easy. Does the game get harder? it might be against the die spirit, but I think pressure of imminent doom would make it even better.

Still, liked what I played!

Advise the King by Arden 2020-04-24T02:24:20Z

Very good submission! very polished, fun to play, works well. I liked the game and was impressed overall by it! I'm surprised i'm having a hard time elaborate, but I think it's just a good game.

I faced a bug that made me loose the mouse (it disappeared, it happened twice) but I persevered because I was that interested. It was cool to learn it was procedurally generated (after the fact) I was impressed by the levels and thought it was all hand made. Progression was nice but I'll admit, as long as you have infinte time to think, it's rather hard to fail. I know people hate timers but I think it could do much for the challenge.

I agree, with the feedback above, but as far as a jam entry goes, what you had was more than necessary. know that it has much potential though!

As an aside, Couldn't help but notice you're a fellow GM user, would love to discuss how you went about things some time. if you're interested.

With that said, amazing job, great game!

Doomsday Feelings by biemorth 2020-04-23T06:38:05Z

It was a beautiful game with good polish and a nice narrative! Adorable stuff! Its a bit too bad it was short but it was good. I liked the caring moment in breaks but as @natasza pointed out, when you die and are revived with full everything it offset the neatness of the moment. (to be fair the alternative would be much worse, so hard to complain).

Still it was a rather enjoyable game, good going!

Like&Subscribe by Time Loop 2020-04-22T05:58:35Z

This is super cool! Great potential! already spooky, 100% relatable. Quality stuff! the twitch chat is a perfect replication of the real thing. and yes i saw that guy is gay

Art is amazing only problem is its too short! sold me on a concept then took it away!!! (I legitmately restarted multiple times thinking there had to be a way out)

Oh and for the outline around commentable stuff Having twitch chat hint towards it (and react of course!) would be great! Ahh look at me getting lost in the potential here!

You say there's more to come? I'll be back. Its off to a great start!

No crime will happen here! by landosilva 2020-04-21T05:38:37Z

I really like the concept! it's something I've been trying to do and still want to do, lots of potential in puzzle-y detective games! One of the challenge of such game is it can often be a bit complex to make and complex to grasp as a player. I unfortunately, couldn't find the killer, I wasn't sure if mechanics were missing or I was missing something, but I saw nothing too obvious. (yet, we wouldnt want it to be too obvious)

Still what was there was rather neet and I'd certainly welcome more!

Volley Gosh by verbvirus 2020-04-23T06:20:07Z

This is adorable! Love the look, the polish the sound, the overall quality! this was a great idea and unique take (I`m biased) and I was very impressed! I will say I had some difficulty with the hitting the ball, i think its a perspective thing.

I have also made a keep ball in air game, can't say it holds a candle to your amazing display, but its a different take. That's all I`ll say on that but it was nice to find a fellow volley game!

So yeah, great game good job guys!

Noble by SludgeKey 2020-04-23T07:31:52Z

You know, this is weird to say, but I think this might be the best take I've seen. So literal, yet so on point and somehow rather unexplored. hadn't seen it so far.

At first it seemed rather silly and simple to just match people, then the tree gets large and you start neglecting some branches and they die off and suddenly you have a few aging branches left and it hits you: Oh my! I might actually fail! Super cool! I wonder if the game gets harder or I hadn't noticed, at some point my people were dying young left and right (which led me to my doom).

My end was pure sadness with a widowed lady having lost her two kids young (didn't even make it to maturity!) husband dead! all relative dead! All I could do was watch, she sure lived long though!

Due to this awful (yet fantastic) end, I do want to suggest remarrying! don't let people be stuck with one person for life! (nobles certainly didnt!) Could add bastards with higher death rate (for everyone involved) and while I don't condone, incest! Desperate time calls for desperate measures (throw in worse health in progeny for accuracy!). Might technically already be the case with how we match people though. In my head cannon people started dying you due to assasinations (it was probably disease/health) anyways perhaps some political news and background for some more involved gameplay! (X declare war on Y -> increased death rate, Uprising against Z -> purge of a line, etc)

Got carried away with suggestion, but this was great and full of potential! Good job and wish you much success!

Fleur Defense by SamStallion 2020-04-21T07:04:25Z

Ok, this is amazing! from graphics, to music, to gameplay, all there working in beautiful balance. Game works well, I'll admit I wasn't too sure what the plant coloring meant, because wattering and color did not collerate perfectly, and watering alone wasn't enough to bloom plant (was it only time?), but the grand lines were clear enough, make plants defend the master plant. Things got progressively harder such that it did not overstay its welcome and yet, I can say I played a lot longer than I expected! Only thing I think could be improved is plant variety, but with the polish on everything; who can complain?!

Plants and actions... plant vs zombie, dark soil, now this... Might be a secret winner formula!! Well done!

Raid Healer Simulator by fydar 2020-04-23T04:16:40Z

Damn That was my original idea! Changed to something else, but its nice to see some else take a stab at it! Bonus mark for theme! (clearly the best theme interpretation!) Chat too real, Spells familliar and make sense. Have to say it is a bit too hard though and its unfortunate the descriptions were not in game. What was there was highly polished (nice hud & chat), I did feel visual feedback was lacking a bit and it was hard to see/feel the effect of our spells when we have to manage so many people at once.

Nonetheless, I liked what I played and id certainly like to see more!

tyle by jordantanner 2020-04-24T03:14:01Z

a pleasing game. It was a bit hard at the start, but once I got used to the tempo I managed to do good. I dont think the tempo was perfect, or at least it didn't feel like it. essentially once you got a streak the game played differently (tempo) but when you lose it its hard to get back.

Still, a rather nice experience. Good going!

Kingdom Trainee by ukirain 2020-04-23T05:52:21Z

This is nice, Looks very good and has a nice concept. The game has a bit too much RNG though, it is clear we sometimes don`t have the cards necessary! biased (or controlled) Random would improve things a lot; especially at the start. Still good!

Save the Fish by Duck Reaction 2020-04-23T04:31:22Z

This Is great, I had no idea what I was getting into, but what is was was amazing. Simple simon say, yet so full of life and personality! loved the fish, it failed to make me feel bad but it did make me laugh! I learned I'm surprisingly bad at following instructions or remembering them. Though I think I faced a bug because one time when I got in the groove I failed by pressing what (I think) was the right button. but the fish said I was supposed to do nothing! (which makes no sense because it wasn't the lastest round and I clearly never had to do "nothing" before; thats a memorable act in itself)

Still, game was so fun and silly I couldn't tell, if it was my bad, the game bugging or the fish trolling. Great game loved it!

Don't Kill Death (Or Die Trying) by MadeByChaz 2020-04-23T04:00:55Z

This is amazing played a lot! very fun, beautiful and polished! Tried a lot of different orders, not sure if there's a best one, it felt rather well balanced. Sound is hype game is full of "That good stuff" (that make games feel alive) from particles, screen shake, blood trail, good noise and just the overall overload of things happening! Just very fun & addictive! Was there some magical mercy life? Had way too many "close" (read 0 hp) calls to the soul hole! If not I'm amazing, if not, you got amazing design skills!

Overall this was amazing, you've got a winner in your hands good job!

Body and Soul by blabberf 2020-04-24T02:55:51Z

Hey, great game! i thought it was very polished, had good sound, graphic, challenge and gameplay! Bunch of life in the whole game, and destroying everything was very satisfying! For feedback, i thought the exp and "level up" were confusing, For a long time I thought the "xp" balls were attacks and I was confused. (downside of the limited pallete) and the choose up menu appeared after what seemed like a death/hurt animation, so I thought I was dying! Finally I wish the attacked stacked! with my offensive focus I only picked offensive upgrades (exceot speed) So it kept on being a new way of attack that wasn't necessarily an upgrade. In my last wave, I happened to pick 3 shots, and I feel it was a pretty bad one (or maybe enemies had gotten strong) and I nearly died!

Personal story aside, it's a strong entry! Good job

Crazy Plant Lady by LaraLama 2020-04-23T05:26:27Z

This is beautiful and very chill. quite a peaceful game It was a bit hard at first because things aren't explained well, but once I got things it was much better! I do have to say point and click wasn't very responsive and a lot of conflict happened between overlapping objects. As such I could never reach the screen to (allegedly) learn about the plants. Also a garbage for dead plant would be nice.

Great job!

Hikikomori Simulator by yeojoey 2020-04-22T04:51:12Z

This is great, have to admit, had to give it a chance from the mere concept of a hikikomori simulator. (btw, your post about it had no link to here).

Anyway, it was surpringly nice! simple, yet quality graphics. simple yet quality sound and simple yet quality gameplay. I appreciate game that while "simple" just have an overall feel of quality, that is to say; deliver on their premise or concept.

I think the game is hard, maybe that's the point, but I rather liked that. sometimes game is too easy and you get bored somewhere, here you die quick and have the opportunity to think... "I can do better than this!" (I couldn't) I did reach day 3 on my first try (beginner's luck?!)

Anyways great job!

*Seeing your post I went up to 4 days

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T06:17:43Z

This is really well done, nice sound graphics and gameplay! I did face a bug where the number went negative and I couldn't clear the level. I restarted over and got to the ending. not that many levels, but what is there is good.

Good game!

Woofice Chair! by JorgeGameDev 2020-10-10T16:14:54Z

Hey, I remember you from past Jams! You have a very distinct presentation! This is great, interesting gameplay, super beautiful game, and nice sounds. A bit challenging but a good game overall. The enemies though, someone must of had fun making those! Hilarious stuff!

ringtale by torcado 2020-10-07T04:48:56Z

Very cool, super varied and quite polished. the physics are indeed annoying, but that's part of the game. (Its more "counter-intuitive", yet its consistent and works). Game is great, Played it for way too long, but I also gave up at the full lock. I can see what I need to pull, but its too hard. Hope there wasn't too much after that, there was plenty before including 2 "difficulty" walls that really tested my patience. (It might seem like I'm negative, but I'm not, I genuinely liked this)

Great game no doubt about that.

Tempus Locus by MSiddeek 2020-10-10T05:58:11Z

Very good! Some performance, issues & perhaps not clear how to use power straight away, but its easy enough to figure out through trial error (which the game lends itself to quite well). Rise was too hard though, if it wasnt for the playthrough in comments reassuring me, I would have given up. It was a very good idea, well executed and pretty too!

Gameplay and production value are top notch tough, this is a very strong contender for sure! Amazing job!

Friday Night Funkin by Cameron Taylor 2020-10-09T03:02:14Z

ITS LIT! Seriously, pretty cool game. Took me a while to get the second song down, but I kept trying, cause it was fun and the beat was great too. It certainly got potential, interested to see where this goes. Oh and yeah, the whole package was great and highly polished, consider it liked!

Knights of the Holy Loop by RenD 2020-10-10T16:03:56Z

Super fun game, beautiful, good music and sound, its a very strong entry for sure! Varied units with cool enough mechanics, I think there was some issue with balancing, I quickly reached a point where winning was trivial and I had more money than I would ever need. Its a jam though, so I understand.

Great game all around, certainly might be worth exploring further, its a strong base you got there with much room for expansion. Winner right there!

Gene Cycle by joh 2020-10-07T05:18:33Z

@snowinn Thanks I intend to port to web soon.

@aquanim Thanks a lot, the "Natural" untangling was a pain to figure out, and even as it is now, is kind of an approximation. Though I think it works alright except for pairs. You can always use right click for manual moving of nucleotides.

@sean-holloway I'll admit, its rather simple. But I think, it gets more stimulating when actively trying to high score. You can really start to have, to play rapidly when you know which sequence comes next, pulling streaks and "saving" steps. Open to suggestions though.

@tree3 You can manually move and untangle blobs with right click & drag. I added that specifically because yeah, sometimes stuff just overlaps.

Thanks All!

Gene Cycle by joh 2020-10-10T16:55:58Z

@sean-holloway Not at all, I took it as feedback, appreciated and noted. I was genuinely asking if you had ideas of secondary loops because I was curious.

@reallyqbert Thanks! The challenge of grasping the core rule is a comment that has come up a lot. Its unfortunate, I really thought it was straight forward, but I guess that was Dev Bias. I'll see what I can do.

@nsadie Yep get that a lot, sorry. I took your suggestion to heart and make a (long) gif explaining the game, but then It wouldn't fit in the game. (browser version) Maybe i'll post it out of the game instead. Thank you!

@everedx Indeed :smirk:

@guimoliveira No need to feel bummed, it is challenging and on top of that, its true that it isnt easy to understand. For what its worth the gameplay gif shows exactly how to reach a score of 3, if you want to try to take it up from there!

@michaelaranda @ellladee Thank you

@pranjalbisht Pretty good! Funny I increased the circle speed because otherwise it felt too slow & unexciting. With 99 steps, it in a way sets a hard Game time and I didn't want it to be too long. And yes, the score is capped, but I doubt anyone would ever get the ceiling. There is no perfect solution, and even fully understanding my game, my score of 8 (Which is NOT the ceiling at all, I just mess up a lot) shows that there's a lot of room for score improvement and optimization.

@szkocka @shadowhaxz0r Thank you and yes the physics was a bit wonky, its actually all fake & hand made though. I'm proud of the untangling and nice wobblyness, but I understand Its not perfect, and the independant loops overlapping is a challenge I unfortunately did not have time to tackle.

Thanks everyone!

Gene Cycle by joh 2020-10-11T17:00:06Z

@reef Yes, the tangling can become a bit of a mess. sorry bout that, 4 is still a good score though good job. Thank you

@mrbamboo Thank you!

@jorgegamedev Omg, this is super impressive! I understand the learning curve, because as noted, a lot of people didn"t grasp it and I'm not even sure the added tutorial succeeds at that. Its a bit unfortunate, because like you said, when it "clicks" its super obvious. (since it had always clicked for me, I was blindsided by the confusion). Thanks for the insight actually.

And yeah untangling is not quite perfect, I tried to improvise it because without it (forcing circles) things would become an even bigger mess. But increasing the force instead creates super wobbly/unstable cycles (as currently happens sometimes for pairs) so it was really trial error, trying to find to most stable parameters. I

Right click to cancel would work well, thanks for the suggestion. In addition to clicking on the selected node, clicking on nothing also cancels selection. (but it can backfire when you "miss" the second nucleotide)

One suggestion I got was adding multiple target sequences at the same time, it might make things a bit more complex, but it also help with the "wasted" time until the sequence is reached (multi-tasking).

**And yeah, your score is amazing**, I don't think I could reach that  Super well done!

Thanks for the the feedback, it was super uplifiting and insightful!

Gene Cycle by joh 2020-10-13T23:52:21Z

@jorgegamedev This is amazing, unbelievable really, you must have pretty much memorized the full sequence and planned stuff ahead? Just my hypothesis for how such a thing is possible. It is intended, but I'm not there yet xD.

@moski NICE a recommendation! Thanks again, @jorgegamedev! (Probably wanted to flex that score, but thats legit) Thank you! I truly get the instructions being overwhelming, even I feel like "Damn, this is too much, especially for a game that boils down to clicking circles to link them", But it is hard to grasp and I still don't feel ive captured how to best convey it. I can certainly see some mobile potential, although as some others have pointed out, I feel it misses a larger purpose; a sense of progression (and the cap is a limitation). Self improvement is intended, but its always the same level/game. If I make it random, then its hard to improve. Might need some adjustments but I feel its a nice core.

@jamison Thank you! You can drag the nucleotides with Right click! Feature exactly for that, but not that clear. And yes, forgetting my selection happens to me too. I made a full white circle to emphasis on the faact that a node is selected but even that is not enough I feel. I want to make it so a preview always aim at you mouse to make it clearer, but that might had to the arrow mess/confusion. 4 is good, seems to be the median score. And thanks for the kind words on graphics. It's a bit funny that I had that aesthetic vision from the start, but was so confident of the "how I would achieve it" I left it for the end, and almost didn't have time to do it. (Arrows would have been ugly straight lines) Glad I did, night and day I feel.

Thanks all, all this responding has totally put me in a postmortem vibe. Interesting to look back at the game and what went right, wrong and where things could go!

Hoop Knight by lectvs 2020-10-10T18:35:12Z

Great game, super unique game mechanic & fun too! The hoop dealing damage is a bit unrully though, but thats alright. game looks great, sounds great, plays great and even has some funny dialogue. A very strong contender, good job!

Active Cell by Jonas Michael 2020-10-07T03:40:32Z

Wow, this is a great game! A bit challenging... not done yet. But I can already see this is a good one. Well polished, clever puzzles, diverse mechanics (already more than I expected). This is great!

Amazing job!

Defuse in under 5 by Darylsteak 2020-10-08T06:57:31Z

That was really nice. A rather simple, but very well executed game that fits the theme. Well done! I liked it, tried to challenge myself at 2s and failed miserably. Is there a physical (human) limit of what time is executable? I can't enter the first code in 2 seconds.

Runnavania by megasha 2020-10-09T04:46:28Z

Ive got to say, it was too challenging, or at least too challenging too soon.It certainly looked nice and had cool music and sound, though no loopin of the music was unfortunate. spent most of my time dieing in silence. Nonetheless this has some potential!

Broodmother by SludgeKey 2020-10-10T17:44:59Z

This is an interesting game. Though, getting started is a bit hard due to the fact that we can't attack (?) Anyway once I manged to make enemies kill each other and could birth my own babies, it got more fun. Its weird how ugly everyone is and yet, it looks great. what a monstrous game. Good job!

Ring Rush by blotosaur 2020-10-10T05:05:26Z

There's that innovation! Lots of great game this jam, but a lot have... straightforward interpretation/implementation. This is On point on theme and yet, fairly unique (at least so far for me, and lets be real, just "impressing" with your take was a full victory for you.) It wasn't a "this works", it was a "this is IT", so yeah good job.

Game was fun, challenging and as I've iterated, just a great take. might have been missing a counter to expose how terrible we are or timer, to trigger to competitive spirit, but what you had there was more than enough (not that many levels though, but the challenge made it appropriate.)

Got a winner on your hands, good going!

Ringchaser by jordantanner 2020-10-09T06:40:28Z

Nice! Looked beautiful, played nicely! Interesting mechanic, might indeed work better with some rhythm aspect as right now it felt like finger twister  . Unfortunately web version crashed (it was running fine before the crash though). Nonetheless, pretty nice!

Record Runner by unplugred 2020-10-09T04:19:30Z

Polish and production value was surprisingly high, impressive stuff all smooth! gameplay works with the theme, I did find it hard to control, and yet, I thought it was a rather unique direction for a rhythm game. Maybe there were too many lanes and they were too thin, but mouse lane control was a cool take. definitely worth refining. The note sounds were weird though, and the last song was clearly the easier than lower level ones (More fail potential, but as long as you dont mess up, easier to get the notes). Good going!

Orbit by ZEN 2020-10-09T06:25:32Z

Interesting mechanic, having to manage health to destroy the obstacles was nice. I have to agree with the issue of RNG, you could easily have easier or harder levels in a random order. I do feel its a missed opportunity for incremental difficulty, especially since the gameplay loop is so simple, yet enjoyable. Game looked good overall, so good investment with the rather simple art style. a nice experience!

The Endless 8 by Jvdwijk 2020-10-10T18:23:18Z

Nice game! I'll admit the 3d was a bit weird, maybe that was too ambitious for a jam. I also think the theme leveraging might have been a bit limited since as others pointed out, you could totally figure things out without looping with some luck. Nonetheless, I see the intent and its even the kind of game I initially wanted to make. So it was nice to see it in action.

GLASS CLEANER 2077 by 730 2020-10-10T04:37:43Z

That was nice, I don't know if there was any consequence to performance since I was so perfect, but maybe some some fail state/consequence would have been nice. It was an interesting experience, the gameplay was... basic and yet I stayed, just reading the intriguing talk while continuing to wash the glasses. In a way missing some talk was the consequence.

Music was great, super chill vibe. thank you "some Japanese people" (& denki) Since I was able to pay attention, why was scarlet something in Glitch city, when all cities are neo something?!

Kidding aside this was surprisingly chill, not sure if it'll be further explored since its a fan game, but It was great.

Loopy Loco by ReallyQbert 2020-10-07T01:55:23Z

Pretty good I cleared it! nice Idea, works well, a bit annoying there's no visual of piece order, but you figure it out throughs (numerous) deaths. Well done.

Fear Of Gears by dev_dwarf 2020-10-11T00:01:46Z

Fun and super impressive! great variety of specials and abilities, hectic combat and overall it just plays great! It was a bit easy, but then I got beaten pretty quickly when I started to take all the cards and get all the debuffs. I think the debuffs was an interesting way to keep things more balanced. Just great, congrats and well done!

Brainwashed by Gianluca Tessicini 2020-10-08T06:38:50Z

This was pretty good! well executed, looked nice and polished and well played with the reset :)

I realised getting "stuck" was possible and when it happened R saved me and I was like "Impressive" :smirk:

Good work!

Looper by Shortbread 2020-10-10T07:17:43Z

This is just.... this is just excellent. Congrats, amazing game you made. Theme ON POINT, art ON POINT, gameplay ON POINT, hate to say it, but this is a super winner! Like damn, not even something grand and epic, just a tight and concise experience that delivers. Bit hard though, but I kept trying, its a fun and challenging game.

So again, Bravo!

An Exercise for the Reader by Jordan Kelly 2020-10-07T03:16:29Z

You did it! Got a great a voice, sounded very insightful and for what its worth it listened to it all(twice!). I did (almost) 0 artwork, and yeah I agree. Now I almost want to have commentary in my games, cause this was nice to listen to and I guess explaining the thought process/idea just feels right.

Better luck next time, but you've got the right spirit!

F#@#! Its Christmas Again by Unicornfrog 2020-10-09T04:27:41Z

Look at you bothering making such an overkill top score system! This game looked great and played nicely though, super hard for some reasons. But whats up with christmas...in doom dungeon? and swearing? and not the usual kind of elf? Ridiculous stuff all around but hey, thats the fun stuff!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Vast Trivia Of The Void by JorgeGameDev 2021-05-09T03:01:36Z

Here we go again!

Another that feels so out of place in a jam... this is a product! Very impressive game all around, polished, worked well and beautiful! Interesting questions, very reasonable, even those I didnt know at all. Cool card mechanics which I abused to get cash & combos with the 6s.

If I had any feedback, its that the balance felt "off", it was quite fair and gradual, but by the same token failed to create urgency/dilemna. I never felt like I would or could die, and when it felt like "logically, I could die" (even if it didn't seem reasonable) I cashed in. I thought I might not have given it a fair shake, but I did get a pretty good performance judging by other comments (except the previous one). 1.2k vpoints ~round 12. I see it as a boiling frog deal, you don't notice the difficulty increase, thus missing out on challenge angle. Yet you probably die quite suddenly, causing a blindside/difficulty spike which might be unappreciated. I think bigger difficulty jumps per depth, That or healthbar of some sort such that the risk/impending doom is more obvious.

I could see multiplayer potential since trivia is most fun flexing over others and its got a game board format to boot!

Amazing game overall, good job Whales!

Arctic Drilling Team Simulator by Flatgub 2021-04-29T00:59:20Z

Hello, I am also having issues with mouse offset. Saw your progress building it and it looked pretty nice and I was definitely looking forward to play it so that's a bit of a bummer. Let me know if you find a solution id certainly like to give it a proper play.

Arctic Drilling Team Simulator by Flatgub 2021-04-30T01:55:05Z

@flatgub Hey it did fix things though it was a bit small. Was able to play! It was certainly an interesting idea, I love this sort of managing games. I do think it was a bit overwhelming. The game looked great but had a bit of a missed opportunity of conveying info through its art. remembering what each pawn was was a bit challenging. Icons on people would have helped a lot I think. Also hovering information! There was a lot to take in and I'll give you that, it was all explained and the information was available. It was just often through one extra click, I felt. It took me a while to notice the view stockpile, the info on it I feel would have fit has hover info on appropriate rooms. With the fastforward, bars crashing down, having to read and parse information was unfortunately too challenging.

Overall, it still a highly polished and deep game, highly impressive!

self reflection by torcado 2021-04-30T03:30:28Z

This is it! What an amazing experience! Top notch gameplay, great polish, unique take on the theme. I wanted to do something along those line but thought it was too crazy for a jam, seeing it achieved and better in execution then in my own mind is quite a feat. Your past entry certainly set expectations and I was still blown away. Amazing, hope you win!

Debt Collector by thomz12 2021-04-28T04:35:37Z

This is very fun, ive been ignoring this clicker thing but if thats what they are about, I can now see the charm! I see a fellow Deep in Dept interpretation and I certainly like that xD, very good implementation on your side, its simple but fun and polished what more can I say?!

Oh, 2 things why is the amount of each Item not showed? (it only appear when hovering) and why not item that increase the per click money, click spam rapidly feels useless (unless im missing something!) Nitpicks aside, it was a great experience. Don't know how the top scores were reached though!

D.N.N. Engineer by wujood 2021-04-28T03:43:09Z

Very nice puzzle game! I like it and its rather polished too! looks pretty, sound is fitting and some clever challenges! One thing though... was the level 6 (or something) Really about waiting? It was clearly impossible and then a 4th neuron showed up making it possible. I thought it was cool, but perhaps a less patient person could have considered this a bug. (even having cleared it, I am curious if it was intentional)

Cool game!

Into the Castle by groverburger 2021-04-29T01:49:42Z

This was Good!straight to the point and fun! bit challenging especilly the jumps (& wall jump, enemy bounce) super props on quick restart! Lots of death but never lost much which kept me engaged the whole time! Art was charming and sound fitting. A great experience overall! Oh and supercool use of depth with the background!

Boss was definitely OP, but as above quick reset got me trying and trying till I got it. Quite intense!

Holey Hell by managore 2021-04-28T04:04:12Z

This is a thigh t & polished experience! looks amazing, quite a challenge somehow, but with a nice replay loop. Ok inverted control got a bit confusing, but no way around that I think. Game is rather simple, but as a dev I am quite impressed and really do wonder how that was pulled off! Beautiful, Good job!

*Edit had left the game open in background and it eventually crashed with an out of memory error, might be a memory leak hidden somewhere. just a heads up!

Goldf by Antti Tiihonen 2021-04-30T03:01:07Z

That was nice, a good little golf game with quality and quite impressive random generation (or so im told xD ) and a little wit here and there! Good job!

Financial Depths by joh 2021-04-28T05:11:20Z

@ilprinny Thanks for the feedback! congrats on 24! that was actually the campaign "you cleared game" intent, problem was a end-state felt wrong since bills remained and you could always get more dept! It then turn to survival with incremental difficulty. Minimum payment does increase in the later cards and it is a critical stat of the card. There was supposed to be a cap on cards 5 or 6, but I didnt get time to code it. From that would raise some actual pressure to choose wisely. the "double card offer" would then be more of a choice(cant take both). All this being said, thanks for the kind words, I am glad you appreciated it. Your game was great and clever too!

@matt-swieboda Thats a great idea, was totally intended but got lost under the cut-cut-cut pressure of jam time limit xD

@superpokeunicorn thank you, that was the intent and im glad it landed.

@silas-reinagel Haha! this is totally not representative of real life. It was for simplification purposes but somehow ends up weird in "real world parralele". Interest is applied on all red portion regardless of when it came from. Although Now that I think about some more, maybe I could have made use previous session balance! Good point!

The clever or at least "different" take on the theme was very intentional, but perhaps cost me too much time xD I am glad the inttelectual juggle could reach people as I did feel it might have ended up too deep. (pun not intended)

@jaiden-gerig Now you remind me of the discalimer I intended to have from the very start of this idea. "Nothing in this game is representative of real life nor should it be used as financial advice" Too bad I forgot about that

Financial Depths by joh 2021-05-01T16:06:17Z

@galina Then they would have one using credit cards! xD

@zuwu thank you!

@blue-pin-studio that was the intent xD Although I was scare of "What if someone plays so well they dont get in depth?!" With the way the campaign is set up I'm pretty sure its impossible.

@roboolet Thanks for the kind words. I think its a bit confusing at first, I quickly threw instructions together but even I'm not convinced those are clear.

@kapa6uh I like that term. Used it in a post, It really does carry the true essence of the game.

@yahay @yamzho @itsisaac Thanks everyone!

@madbarron Very interesting, yet probably true. At the start that is definitely the case; thats a subtle way to teach the basics and also easy balancing. However you do have choices, they just have minimal impact until later on. You dont HAVE to accept every card, but since they dont really have downsides until later on, its an obvious choice.(later ones have fees and higher minimal payment).

Quite honestly real challenge starts at week 25, once its no longer curated to be possible by me and just random.

You are absolutely right about the double click. Payment click exists doe to an other option that was cut (Reward aka Skill), should have removed that button. Pay Full/Pay min makes sense when both options are availble, but doesn't when only one does. small oversights -.-'

Thanks I like the arrow too, I actually saw it in a game during another LD and asked the dev how the made it. And I like the background idea too, though I wish it was a bit more alive. Thanks for the feedback!

Financial Depths by joh 2021-05-02T15:27:07Z

@duck-reaction Thank you! The game is a bit dry in juiciness; I initially intended for a full persona5 style UI and presentation to lay in on the "its an RPG" part, but dropped that early on, and went for bank like minilast ui. (still I did want a bit more juice)

And I did have such activity plans but didn't have time to add them. Although it wasn't choices per-say, more like choices through paying. If you failed to pay dates, you would get dumped. if you failed to pay hang outs you would lose friends etc. (Back then not every bill missed would lead to game over)

@ninsky I guess I wasn't clear on thar, my bad. But thanks for giving it a chance and figuring it out!

@simex Wow this is super impressive, I'm surprised that you reach a safe state, but I did code some difficulty ceilings so maybe that's why. Did you ever reject cards? I know some cards could potentially get hard to pay (fees/high mininal payment). I had more gameplay in mind, although they are more on the make game easier side: Cashback rewards, Travel points (skip weeks) & manually asking for cards. But yeah, perhaps relaxing the difficulty ceiling; higher bills, more bills, shorter pay times. Would also be wise.

Thanks a lot and congratulations!

@6smith Thank you!

Financial Depths by joh 2021-05-09T02:27:53Z

@kotzi @wanderix Thank you and thank you! I have attempted to fix the UI scaling for the browser version. Thanks a lot for pointing it out, had no problem on my dev computer, so I would have never known. It seems the way I coded things was not friendly to chrome... or high dpi; not sure what it was. If you ever get the chance let me know if the issue has been properly remedied.

@jorgegamedev Hey! good to see you again! It feels good to have cross jam recurrent encounters. especially when they lead to high expectations. I feel like I made the same "mistake" as last time with a seemingly too deep/complex game (although when you get it it really isn't that complex). Thanks a lot for the feedback; while fixing the browser resolution problem, ive attempted to increase emphasis on bank account and payments.

I do not believe it is possible to remain the positives, It is by design and for the theme, but initially it was something I "feared" because I had planned more ways to have "positive" income: Cashback, Job promotions and skipping bills without game overs. Unfortunately, since I didn't have time to add these, I dont even need to worry, you cant stay in the positives.

And yeah, music was a time thing and although I did fix some things, i do try to remain in the "spirit" of the initial jam entry. Perhaps post-jam? or maybe If I need to do another quick fix, musicless is certainly dry; hope it wont hurt too much.

Thanks for all the feedback and your nihilistic take! You're game is pretty impressive, so you are certainly not doomed to see your bank account(s) plummet  cheers!

depthscraper by lexi 2021-04-30T02:30:51Z

This is beautiful! Amazing game and you are right to aim for mobile! gameplay is simple yet fun, aestetic is simple yet clean, so clean I wasnt sure it was the game since if flowed into the rest of the page so well! Even the theme... At first I was like "I dont see it", but then! well played. I dont have much to say except It was great, perfect kind of game for the jam and beyond!

Bottomless Pitfall by emanvidmaker 2021-04-30T02:38:21Z

Fun game, quite literal with the team and a fairly simple gameplay, but thats the best route (i think). Good game.

The Falling Knight V.S the Endless Pit of Dark Despair by ilPrinny 2021-04-28T02:06:01Z

Wow this is amazing! Took me a while to get it at first (not too long) But yeah, this is very nice! Having to keep track of turns and how to best leverage the obstacles was fun and clever! I cleared the game, wasnt expecting a boss, but by then I had the mechanics down. Still was a challenge. Game looks nice, sounds good, good package surprised its a compo entry! Very cool take!

Bunny Bunny Dig Dig by ZakAmana 2021-04-28T06:22:14Z

Amazing game! Very fun, highly polished and the gameplay loop of die/elevator and try again was super well implemented! I think the randomization could be a bit cruel as Ive been doomed by no branch spawning, yet I also fluked into the bottom pretty early on with few upgrades; just a very convenient arrangement of tiles (lots of brown rock and branches). Even after that I still tried again, thats how good the game is xD. Great game, Seems like a winner!

The Company Store by 3LSTMsInATrenchcoat 2021-04-29T01:26:57Z

Hey! interesting! I found this hard, perhaps because I tried to avoid damage too much. Are we supposed to avoid those, seems impossible and getting deep in dept would fit the theme xD No sound is a bit of a bummer though, but understandable!

Dwammings by Eden Shazar 2021-04-29T03:26:42Z

This is nice! It looks super nice and has fitting mood & music! Its a bit hard to control though, it is unclear why the dwarves stop acting, and if its due to lack of beer they sometime fail to go fetch some. It did seem easy to get stuck and doomed xD. I do think I also lost some dwarves due to getting stuck in walls. Nontheless I was fairly impressed with what I saw good job!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Dark Soil by Pietro Ferrantelli 2018-04-29T02:36:40Z

fantastic game, well done! great idea, amazing execution, kind of wish there was more variety, but was very impressed by what was there for a jam entry. I'm curious on "how" things got harder because I didn't "feel it", but I died after a long time. can we run out of space? I covered a lot of the available ground. Rotating while awesome with wheel (props), still got hectic when things were challenging. wish one key was always reserved for weapon(say space). Good going!

Infernoculus by icxon 2018-04-25T02:45:15Z

Yup, this is amazing. well polished, welll thought out, good idea, looking good, its all there! I am very impressed. The Ai was great too, thats usually the most lacking part, but they played well. I'll say while turnbased sport game is probably one of the most common use of the theme (it does fit the theme quite well) your game shows that perhaaps it doesn't (and i mean that as a compliment!) units even have abilities, good going!

Glorious execution!

MechaSnek by bluescrn 2018-04-24T23:44:16Z

Impressive stuff, it great, feels like a full game already. I think I'll have to agree with everyone mentioning camera issues, it caused weird view and in-intuitive controls(absolute rather then relative) but I got used to it. No secrets, game is graphically amazing, but I feel it might have benefited from a simpler look. It felt a bit busy and hard to know what was going on.

All in all, great game!

Ballermann III: The Expendabuilds by xoidberg 2018-04-30T18:33:41Z

Very good indeed but as was brought up, rotate ability would have been very helpful, its too hard right now. And There really should have been a grid, with say a color gradient under the blocks to see where they would fall. I would say its starts a bit fast too, especially without drop position sign. and the blocks moving up make it overkill. That is a good feature, but I feel it should come after no shooting for too long; work as an incentive to shoot. What can I say, great idea, full of potential a bit held back by its difficulty, but great nonetheless.

Good graphics, mucsic, concept: Great job!

Twin Stick Town by patrickgh3 2018-04-24T04:50:18Z

Great Game, executed well enough youd think those two genre belong together. missed opportunity to have dead building permadead,Also wished items spawned near their creator building. could add an extra layer of strategy. Not sure If i failed to get far enough, but weapon diversity would also nice (thats like a defining feature of twinstick shooters!) oh yeah, as above dude said, building as better cover, they held back more than help!. Nice concept on its own, potential to grow beyond; nice work.

discardagain by blackoptics8 2018-04-24T04:25:39Z

Very good, simple to the point, fits the theme nicely, good job. Not sure id call it a an rts, but whatever, havent seen this kind of game before so you get full marks. Ai, seems really good though. or maybe I'm just bad. (right after this i tried some more to be sure and did much better... does the Ai scale?) either Nice work.

Bloxcars by karln 2018-04-26T23:36:10Z

This is good, this is the spirit of the jam! great mashup!

Great potential, will also say it could be polished into something great. Game is too hard though, and honestly I think its very fitting. But I feel for enjoyment/progression purposes, A "block" counter might have been a better performance measure. It seems like a better(more realistic) objective to "survive long" then to complete lines.

PS: I managed to get 1 line -Non Tetris player

Draw Me Something by Yirggzmb 2018-04-27T00:07:49Z

Well played, I very quickly saw what was coming after drawing a couple things. I think it was a great idea. I will say thins though I felt the controls were a mess, shoothing would have been better with mouse or one button=faced direction. Theres also color changing. I ignored it cause it didn't feel worth it. got used to it quick but it felt like twin stick shooter... on a keyboard; weird.

I cant believe the things I went with but that made thing silly and thats nice. Timer was too short (yet a good idea, consider making it a bit longer, want the time to do something yet some pressure to do it quick.)

What can I say, a great idea maybe not perfect in execution, but mostly little things so its all a nice game.

Good job.

Super Bass Racing by isaaclopinho 2018-04-26T23:18:48Z

Wow, can't believe someone else made a fishing x racing game! It's totally different too!

Great idea, fits the theme perfectly! :smirk: Cool music, and switching theme is amazing, wish id thought of that. Could really use a single player mode though.

Good job!

Also made a fishing x racing game check it out https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/need-for-fish

Need for Fish by joh 2018-04-26T01:41:38Z

Hi all, thanks for the kind comments, its really appreciated!

@YuukiMakoto Any fish can escape, it happens at random when the fish is at max distance 500+/500.

You reduce the distance with the difference in speed of you and the fish. Thus faster fish (shark being among the fastest) will escape faster due to being unable to close the distance fast enough. An alternative is not throwing at max distance. Thus when the fish bites it will not be at 500/500. Not subtleties Id expect people to notice, but just putting it out there.

@joemid Although I really can't recall much of lego racers (so no, it was not an inspiration) I am mind blown by someone bringing it up, because i did play it and loved it, but totally forgot the game existence. Wow.

@Very bad Bunny Anything specific you'd like to know, always nice to chat gamedev. I've learned a lot from others, wouldn't mind sharing some of it around!

added a html version, did take into account some of the things that were mentioned(like help bug), but no new features/gameplay simply a more accessible version.

Someone Is Wrong On The Internet by huminaboz 2018-04-30T18:09:09Z

Good stuff, difficulty just right, simpleness right on point, looks good. Some choices were interesting, wonder if it was entirely random, partly random or handpicked because some were tricky, some funny and even some manipulative (words youd associate but not neccessarly antonyms) either way, was nice!

Spin Quest by AndrewJAdams 2018-04-24T20:04:28Z

Simple and nice, Great potential to be a full stand alone (mobile) game, hell its already worthy.

Not sure if I was just lucky, but once I understood the game (I did without reading the instructions... but thats a good thing in a way) Losing seemed a bit far fetched unless things get much harder(seems like they did a bit). You can spin "smartly" to maximize your odds. Spins are a bit long as is reward obtention, especially due to the repeat nature of the game. Spins also clearly don't cost enough.

This might seem like a lot of criticism, but thats only because I see a **great game**. Throw in better progression and extra balancing and youv'e got a winner!

Keep it up!

Honest Dan's Trout by Honest Dan 2018-05-02T23:47:43Z

Wow, never realised I was so bad at multi tasking. This is great. probably the best use of theme I've seen. (I've seen good ones, but this... clever) To be fair I'm not sure those two games count as "genres" but I get it, and its amazing. Surprisingly hard, slightly frustrating too, but in a good way. The ball always ruin everything and yet its how its meant to be. I was also surprised by how often it also create perfect slots or perfect random shapes.

Good going!

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-24T23:11:06Z

Now thats some polished game. even had a nice tutorial! who does that! (but thanks thats nice) game was great although I felt it controlled weird.(i think its the push backs)

Great idea, Great work!

Since you asked: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/need-for-fish

Click Soccer by Kurama_Youko 2018-04-24T05:47:08Z

this is some impressive stuff, although once you get it, ai is... weak. I think its unclear when you or opponent has the ball especially when on same case(?). Nonetheless, its a fun idea, executed nicely great potential!

The Colossal Carrot Caper by rush 2018-04-24T04:03:42Z

Great idea, although I'm not sure the genres were uncompatible. it did make for a nice experience.the beat was on and off with the dots. at time it felt just right, then slightly off ruining the mojo. the wolfs also seemed hard to lose once they were onto you. someone mentionned bonus for good performance... maybe some way to lose the wolf. It looks really great btw.

MiniGame Racing by Deprecat 2018-04-24T23:29:55Z

haha what an idea. way too hard, yet very realistic display of distraction... distracting. Like wow no matter how mentally prepared for the distractions I was, they still got me. As above, hold and spam were the one I could pass. Would benefit from better balancing, perhaps even non random events (compensated by more level progression) youd get to see how often you got distracted by that same thing! Unfortunate you didn't have time to make it pretty, there's a great concept there.

Feel free to check my entry, its got racing too!

Cities: Platforms by lucasbra1 2018-04-24T23:00:24Z

Nice idea, a bit too easy though. managed to fill up the whole screen. then its just pure safety. wasnt clear what did what (in ressources) but it doesnt seem like it mattered?(I mean I feel like I got an idea, abused it and filled up everything but I still dont know the specifics.) Its a great game idea though, good concept!
