LD33 — You are the Monster

Dragon Quest by Zathnic 2015-08-25T16:50:00

It's a good start. The animation and scrolling is nice and smooth (on Windows 10 at least). It's definitely a good playground for adding more features and characters and sounds and such. As it stands, though, it's pretty minimal.

Super Chop by savethejets1 2015-08-26T17:28:00

Yeah, like the others it took me a bit to realize you chop when you release the spacebar. Once I had that down, I did much better. Really like the graphics and the sound and the animation.

I'll have to try the post-compo version, as I wanna go shopping :)

Starvin' Sasquatch by GertJohnny 2015-08-25T18:06:00

Very nicely done. Love the art and the theme. Took quite some time to load the WebGL version, but that's a Unity thing. Once it loaded, performance and animation was smooth.

Congratulations!

Free Me, You Idiots! by GBGames 2015-08-25T18:36:00

The Windows version is working. This is a weirdly compelling game. It didn't start with much instruction, but figuring out what the heck was going on turned out to be part of the challenge. Enjoyed watching the story unfold.

Only complaint is that scrolling around the board was a little hard to do. Putting more stuff on the map would've made it easier to figure out where I am. Often I was looking at a completely green screen wondering if I was actually scrolling anywhere.

And the ending was amusing and satisfying. As I've said before, I like games that are fun for about five minutes and take about four minutes to play. You've pretty much covered that. Congratulations.

Don't Crawl by NikB 2015-08-26T18:01:00

Very nice game. It's a pretty familiar theme, but the execution and the extra touches keep it from being TOO familiar. Totally kicked my butt, but I'm never been all that great at platformers. Thanks for letting me play!

BooByeBaby by taaboo 2015-08-25T21:32:00

Nicely done puzzles, and I like puzzle games. The graphics are good. The puzzles are a challenge and ramp up nicely from "here is how to play the game" to "this will kick your butt".

I also like the graphics. Understand about the lack of a title screen. I'd rather have a good game with a bad title screen than the other way around.

Not sure what that inexplicable slider is at the lower-left of the screen. I assume it becomes enabled later in the game.

Delicious Cortex by deepnight 2015-08-26T01:04:00

Oh this one is lots of fun. High marks in all categories. I hope you'll keep working on this one, because it deserves a commercial release.

Sucker Punch by Shaw 2015-08-25T22:10:00

Nice enjoyable visceral thrill. KRAKEN SMASH!

Not exactly sure how I take damage, but I didn't much mind because I was having too much fun breaking stuff.

Monster's Ball by anissen 2015-08-25T02:40:00

I wasn't much for all the talking at the beginning, but once it got into the gameplay itself, it was quite fun to play. Good work.

Gelan's Quest by rnlf 2015-08-26T21:54:00

Nice little point-n-click game. Movement was a tad slow, though. Would like to have had some shortcuts to walking around.

Intergalactic Love Machine by Slothmachine 2015-08-27T19:15:00

Love the graphics, sound, and theme. This one hits on all cylinders.

Hugzilla by jovoc 2015-08-26T17:54:00

High marks for graphics, theme, and humor. Love the look of the cute godzilla that hugs the town to death. I want him on a T-shirt.

Shame the game's not finished. I absolutely encourage you to spend a few more days on it. Once this thing is done, it's gonna be a blast (literally).

Gravity Snake by lessmilk 2015-08-26T16:12:00

Nicely done puzzle game. Kind of Sokoban+Snake+Gravity. It's a weird combination, but it works and the puzzles get devilish pretty quickly. I could definitely see people obsessing over a 100-level version of this.

No Harm Monster by lion123 2015-08-26T20:02:00

Like the idea of an endless runner where you have to *not* destroy everything in your path.

Kraken Rampage by randyyaj 2015-08-25T01:54:00

Quite like the graphic style.

I am not a Monster by PurpleApes 2015-08-26T19:52:00

Yeah, it's a good start, but it didn't feel like a complete game. If you had to dodge and club the rocks, it would've been better.

Also it needed some story. Why are you being chased? Are you just too monstrous? What happens after the you're subdued by the villagers?

Yeah, I know these are probably not the questions to ask yet. I'd just like to see this made into a more complete game.

Monster can-can by nassi 2015-08-26T18:16:00

Hey, credit for making a complete game, albeit a pretty simple one. I almost broke my space-bar playing a second time.

Disturbed Mind by guldlock 2015-08-25T21:18:00

Well that was a genuinely weird experience. Not sure if I was even playing it correctly, but I still felt compelled to keep playing. Just for that, I'd consider this a success.

Bloup! by Noisette 2015-08-25T19:46:00

Oh that's lots of fun. Definitely one of those "oh this is stupid, so I'm only gonna play it for THREE HOURS" games. Probably could've used some sound and maybe some goofy characters instead of little tic-tacs. Good work all around, though.

Devil's Avocado by DeadFragment 2015-08-25T19:07:00

Very nicely done. Quite enjoyed the theme even if I didn't grok the mechanic right away. Ironically, this is the second "you are an evil god" game that I played in a row. Who would've thought that would've become a thing.

Animation and graphics were very smooth. Sound was a little repetitive and didn't really fit the theme. Definitely could see sound and graphical special effects accompanying the floods and smitings and such. But there's only so much you can do in 72 hours.

Only complaint is that I didn't realize until about day three that you could rotate the entire map with the right mouse-button. That gave an entire new dimension (pun intended) to the game :)

Tenebrous Expanse by WubAlliance 2015-08-25T21:50:00

Very nicely done and playable game. Like the look. It oddly reminded me a bit of "World Of Goo", with the black-n-white graphics contributing to the overall style. Like the music too. The music kept reminding me to keep this one at a slow pace.

Not sure how this game makes me a monster, though :)

Monster Mayhem by TEQ 2015-08-25T20:39:00

I encourage you to keep working on this. I like the art and I think this could potentially be a lot of fun. The graphic bits are cute, and the game looks like it'd be a lot of fun for kids.

But, as you said, it's not done.

Cleanup of the Black Lagoon by Culturebosh_games 2015-08-25T20:49:00

Cute game. Really like the pixelly graphics. As for the theme, I may be overthinking this, but I did get the "I Am Legend" vibe that "if you are the only person among monsters, then you are the monster", so I thought it followed the theme better than most.

As for the gameplay, it was okay. Seemed like the main strategy seemed to be to wait until your green-meter got near the top, then plow across the bottom and throw a huge amount of stuff in the air. As such, I wasn't sure I was actually playing it right, but I did get a really high score.

El Trumpo by RadMcCool 2015-08-26T17:41:00

It's okay, but I think it's only about a third of a game right now. Would've been cute to have some back-story as to why Trump has a tank and is going after you. And then maybe some explanation as to what happens after you're done shooting him.

Animation was very smooth. Graphics and sound were fairly crude. Would've also been funny to have Trump shout some of his one-liners when you miss. LOSER! STUPID! etc :)

Sales of a Deathman by superfluous 2015-08-25T02:01:00

Amusing theme. Wasn't quite sure what the strategy was. Liked the little humor bits thrown in.

Kraken Babies by johnhattan 2015-08-25T21:34:00

Yes, "Denise The Kraken" and "Maurice The Kraken" were intended to sound like "Release The Kraken". That's why I got a real live semi-professional voice actor to do them :)

Dude, Stop by Patomkin 2015-08-25T20:01:00

Okay, that was cute. It's not much for replayability, but I got a couple of really good laughs out of it.

Also I need a score at the end so I can determine my Evilness Quotient :)

Glauron by Frozen Fractal 2015-08-26T16:39:00

Excellent game. Good graphics and animation and audio. Everything moves smoothly. Terrific work for the time-frame.
