LD33 — You are the Monster

Kitten Karnage by Beanalby 2015-09-12T08:46:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we enjoyed -
The art style is light and fun, the animation of the jumping cat and the explosion of bird feathers was really nice. The little elements of humour really added to the fun of the game as well.

What could be improved -
Some music really helps arcadey games with short gameplay loops, even something simple would add a lot. The sounds didn't quite match the art style, more natural sounds would match the very natural artwork.

Thanks!

A Crown of My Own by graebor 2015-08-24T18:37:00

Hi, thanks for letting us play your game!

Areas we loved:

The music and mood are fantastic and really compliment each other. The transitions between day and night were an unexpected treat. For someone who really likes to play and discover it seemed like there was a large amount of things to combine.

The graphics fitted the mood created by the music, but are quite simple, I'd love to see what you could do with more time.

Areas to develop:

I couldn't work out what the heck I needed to do to progress. Now, I could be being a bit dense (and I understand that the excitement of discovery is part of the game), but from what I was able to discover, there wasn't much logic in the combinations. I hope to come back and try to finish again sometime soon.

Thanks!

Moral Monster by Aske 2015-08-25T21:29:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

I'm sorry Bob. I'm so sorry.

What I liked:

Nice graphics and animations on the monsters. Fun, solid sounds. Liked the 'cinematic'. Really solid game play foundation for a 48 hour game!

Areas to develop:

Would have loved to see something to mix the combat up (just a little), as after I got the hang of it, you can manipulate the monsters into range pretty easily.

Would love to see this idea further!

Congratulations! Well done!

DAMNED by NickZangus 2015-08-26T22:48:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we liked:
Really solid and inventive art, great sound and music design, very on point with mood and theme for the jam, intelligent tutorial within the game itself. The atmosphere reminded me of the film Sleepy Hollow.

What could be improved:
A bit more variety? Maybe some element of trying to escape from people trying to hunt you down. Minor point though. Good job!

Artifacts Of Monstrosity by Mutt 2015-08-25T21:48:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Sense of humour, was fun to chat with my fellow monsters. Definitely fits the theme, but it was good to be a monster, in a monster world. Enjoyed burning humans with fire. Great to see an ambitious attempt at an adventure game in the time available.

Areas to develop:

Would be great to have some sound, definitely do a post jam version. Would be good to have a few more clues in the game to point you in the right direction. A couple of screens where I spawned inside humans, damn them.

Congrats! Good work!

...

That's me, just blobbing.

Flesh & Fish by metalchouchen 2015-08-25T21:16:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Love the slightly schizophrenic art style. Definitely felt like a monster when I dunked a cute cat into my cooking pot. Died alone in an asylum, which gets a thumbs up from me.

Areas for development:

Slightly wonky hitbox on the player character meant it was tough to get on the platforms sometimes and the jump feels a bit soupy.

But on the whole, congratulations! Well done!

Troopers' Starship by RoundFork 2015-08-25T22:07:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Great original art style and graphics. Liked the stealth based gameplay and pouncing on the troopers with the jump attack, screw them.

Areas to develop:

Like you guys said, it's pretty punishing (not a bad thing generally), but I found it quite hard to get the timings on the attacks down consistently. Even with the stamina bar sometimes it's hard to work out when you can attack.

Great work! Congratulations!

I am not a Monster by PurpleApes 2015-08-27T07:22:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we liked -
Nice clear concept, sticks nicely to the theme of the jam, the music was fun and fitted with the rest of the game, simple and fun art.

What could be improved -
Seemed like whenever you needed to jump over a rock they threw a spear and you always needed to roll when they chucked a fireball, made it very difficult given the controls.

Monster Cat by Septi 2015-08-26T21:54:00

Hey! Thanks for letting us play your game.

What we liked:
The art style and animation of the cat was lovely and made me want to instantly forgive any horrible acts that the cat was committing. The game was simple and fun with no bugs that I could find.

What could be improved:
The sight line of the human seemed overly punishing. I struggled to hide anywhere! I feel like there was a slight disconnect between the almost anime style of the cat and the rest of the environment, more links between the two would improve the overall mood.

I May Have Misunderstood: RPG by wooltech 2015-09-11T21:56:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Really liked your interpretation of the theme and the old school RPG gameplay.

Areas to improve:

Hmmm any of my criticisms would be playing right into your hands eh, wooltech? Mechanics could be a bit better explained? Combat system could be more predictable? All part of your monstrous plan I bet!

Had a miserable time... Well done. You are truly a monster!

Congrats!

Alieanum by Kaev 2015-08-24T19:06:00

Hi, thanks for letting us play your game!

Congratulations on finishing! Really liked the outer space mood and classic-shooter setup.

Development for the future: Would have loved some music and as others have mentioned, slightly more consistency on the graphics.

Good work!

Monster Munch by Fitscat 2015-08-27T20:21:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Clicking gingerbread men until I had devoured them all.

Areas to develop:

The cookie men had a habit of getting stuck on the edges of the screen and I don't like it when the confectionery scum rob me of my hunt!

Congratulations, good work!

Master's Treasure by Aaranos 2015-09-12T16:08:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we liked:
This was really simple but it was fun to bat the knights away. Although the physics were ridiculous it was actually quite funny to see them spinning towards the chest. I'm glad you implemented a way to recover gold - that keeps it playable without getting boring. The sounds and music fitted the graphics well.

What could be improved:
The music was a very short loop and this is quite noticeable, but it's good all the same. A little variation would make it even better. A sound to indicate you had been hit would be useful too as the gameplay is fairly frenetic. I couldn't see a reason that you'd included a jump button?

Power Lich by rattower 2015-08-26T22:23:00

Hey! Thanks for creating a game.

What we liked:
Having a big hoard of skeletons follow you around is really fun, and it was nice to be able to direct them where to attack. The art style was nice and the objectives (kill all the things) were clear from the start.

What could be improved:
It wasn't entirely clear how to direct the skellies to attack. Once I worked that out the game was really really easy. Fun, but very short. A bit of music would have really added some atmosphere to the game and the sounds were limited but worked well enough in the game.

Over The Course Of A Day by Blobo 2015-09-11T21:44:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

I found a couple of the little vignettes genuinely funny, I particularly liked driving away in the bus and punting Jimmy off the hill. Also enjoyed the mix of mechanics that you attempted, like the rhythm-game bit.

Areas to improve:

Like a few people have mentioned, it would be really good to have a checkpoint system, so if you fail to complete a scene, you could have another shot straight away.

Congrats on your second Ludem Dare! Well done!

Kill All Fairies by TackoramaLtd 2015-08-24T19:20:00

Hi, thanks for letting us play your game!

What we liked: The sound of squashing Fairies, it makes me feel good! That you had a version people could play on windows/mac and Linux.

What I would like to see developed: I know you opted out of the graphics category, but the mix of art does some disservice to the frantic Fairy squashing. Perhaps something to work on?

Well done!

SUPER DEMON SMASH ARMS by matt123miller 2015-08-25T20:38:00

Hi guys, thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Liked the music and concept. Fun graphics in the environment and on the arms (although the position of the arm models meant I couldn't see some of the little soldier guys running on the from the left and right before it was too late!).

The voices on the little blokes cracked me up as well.

Areas to develop:

Sorry, but the aiming was wonky for me, which was a bit of a pain. Did you manage to work out what was causing it?

Anyway, congratulations, well done!

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde by Kalm004 2015-09-12T16:04:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we liked:
The animation of the main characters was nice. There was plenty of variation in the sounds which is good and the cheesy music was nice in context.

What could be improved:
The gameplay felt really floaty, there was no sense of weight to the characters which is very important for a platformer. I didn't really understand how to play, the directions for keys were extremely clear but the descriptions were quite wordy which made it hard to decipher what I should be doing.

Treasure Keeper by jelch 2015-08-27T07:30:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we liked -
The animation of the main character was really nice, the attack animation feeled solid and was helped by the sound design. The music fitted the atmosphere of the game nicely. The game was also on theme well.

What could be improved -
The little guys were too fast and your character moved too slow. They got stuck on walls quite a lot and a few times managed to move offscreen which is frustrating.

DECI-Mation by zodiacgames 2015-08-27T07:52:00

Shortcut isn't working for me either so no vote. Let us know how to get it working.

The Evil Dog and The Great Bunny Forest by A_Cat5 2015-08-27T07:49:00

Hey! Thanks for making a game.

What we liked -
The game was simple and satisfying, the art style was clean and it was nice to bash the mouse button to attack all those bloodthirsty squirrels. Nice to see a levelling system also!

What could be improved -
Could do with some sound so you know when you're being attacked or dishing out damage. A little music would really contribute to the overall atmosphere, even something simple. The constant respawning enemies meant you could cheese XP pretty easily.

Monster by Lou Byrd 2015-08-25T20:59:00

Thanks for letting us play your game!

What I liked:

Great atmosphere, really liked the detached, sometimes Patrick Bateman-like internal thoughts of the main character.

Liked the minimalist visual aesthetic as well and you interpretation of the theme.

Areas to develop:

Some typos and grammatical bits, which took me out of the story (but only a little bit).

Congratulations! Well done!

LD36 — Ancient Technology

Joey's Adventures by mato26 2016-08-31T20:20:00

Hey, fun game. The graphics are smooth and cute, and the darkness aspect of the game is well done. I didn't know I could double jump until I got stuck and tried mashing space. Nice controls, easy to play - enjoyed the time I spent with it! Cheers.

PrimalVoxels by MewSoul 2016-08-31T21:57:00

Hey, welcome to Ludum Dare! :) Your game was good fun and it's always nice to see someone take a crack at 3D graphics. The game was simple and fun, although I found myself getting stuck on walls a lot. Freedom of movement is absolutely key in shooter games, so the only thing I'd change is the hitboxes to make it a bit smoother. Good job!

Cave (man) Story by Culturebosh_games 2016-08-31T22:08:00

Thanks for all the kind words so far @nardelli everything was coded in Gamemaker Studio, art and animations with Photoshop, sounds were made in logic and the two of us who made the game were the cavemen.

Cave (man) Story by Culturebosh_games 2016-09-01T17:08:00

@ianb96 - thanks man, that's a really nice comment. Why can't I hold all my feels.

Gregos Journey by yotam180 2016-08-31T17:58:00

Great job - this was a fun game with some nice brain teasers. The music was really nice and fitted each of the rooms. The main lab had really nice atmospheric sounds - it was a shame that the other levels didn't seem to have as much love.

The atmosphere was the true winner - the half hints and story discussion were all compelling for something so short.

I also struggled with the second level! Only got it when I read your spoiler. I did guess that it was something to do with the magazine, but the leap to binary was too far for me to make by myself.

Enjoyed the other puzzles. The letter block placement was infuriating, but I actually really enjoyed that puzzle - it gave me a sense of achievement!

Great game, good job.

Storm O.S. by kapricornmedia 2016-08-31T21:54:00

Seriously beautiful game with bags of style. I quite like how all the focus was on music with no sound, it immersed you fully in the visuals. I didn't get very far because I suck at puzzles, but what I played I really enjoyed. Great job.

Reinventing the Wheel by gonutz 2016-08-31T19:05:00

Fun little game. Nice animations and I really liked the physics of the large boulders - they felt really weighty as the character leaned into them.

It would have been good to have some context for why the magic portals existed in such a prehistoric world. Also, a background would really elevate the overall graphics.

Good job!

Ubuq by cubotrox_toni 2016-08-31T19:26:00

Hey! That was a fun game - nice work syncing the sounds / attack / music pretty seamlessly. The art style was nice but I spent too much time concentrating on the buttons to really appreciate it. Fun game though - blood explosions always good.

Hey, the version without shaders works for me. No idea what the conflict is - I'm on win 10 with an ATI GPU.

Anyway, fun & cute! Sound effects, graphics and music are all really coherent and together. I really like the acapella music track and it all gels together nicely.

Traanimus by ianb96 2016-08-31T20:10:00

Fun idea for a game! Some good puzzles in there, would be something well worth developing further.

The music drove me a little bit nuts, but the ghouls coming at you through the walls can get quite tense!

Liked the ending as well.

Thanks for sharing! Well Done!

Disgolem by ocarson 2016-08-31T18:17:00

Hey! Really love the bold, colourful art style and I've always thought making a music rhythm game is quite difficult, so props for making one!

I found the controls very hard to get a hold of - mostly it was not understanding that the circle was triggered on the beat, so you could wait till bar 3/4 and have longer to get ready on the controls.

Also, making the robots have different time patterns is good, but when you first play the game you have a three second window to click, absorb everything, then make a decision - it's quite overwhelming as a player to be thrown into the deep end so quickly.

Fun game and love the music. Keep it up!

Allan by Damdoshi 2016-08-31T19:14:00

Hey! Very atmospheric game - the music really added to the creepy claustrophobic feel as you descend into the dark laboratory.

I would love to be told before i meet the first tower "look out, a gun turret!" - otherwise the player blunders into an unavoidable damage, which can feel unfair. More set-up maybe of "this is a dangerous place, I should be careful".

Top marks for creepy atmosphere though. Good job!

DYSCOVR by Sean 2016-08-31T19:22:00

Hey! The atmosphere of being in a tiny excavation vehicle on a vast alien planet was nicely done - the music perfectly matched the game.

I think there needed to be more sense of reward in logging artefacts - it didn't feel like that part had been gamified enough (collect 5 breakers, do something, blah blah) to fun.

Relaxing, good looking, great atmosphere though. Good job!

Hero of Alexandria by Drury 2016-08-31T17:42:00

Haha this game was silly - lots of charm. I like the tongue in cheek humour on display in the menus and DAT VASE.

Sounds and music would have added a lot, but the main game itself was fun enough to draw me in. It was quite hard! Definite vibes of Super Crate Box.

I found it hard to judge quite how far the sword could attack from which caused a lot of early deaths - once I worked out I could use it from further away it became a lot easier to play. Maybe some more visual feedback of the attack arc would help?

Fun entry. Good job!

Curious Dinos by RafaSKB 2016-08-31T22:06:00

So, I had no idea what was going on, I gathered eventually that the idea was to bring the dinos in, but I also found that the first ability was the most useful. Other parts just seemed to scare the critters :(

Great art and sound though, and the mystery is quite nice. You see it as the dinos do perhaps? The art style is almost hyper light drifter esque. I enjoyed my time playing.

Aqueductus by wheerd 2016-08-30T22:16:00

Simple, fun, on theme. Although the sound was very simplistic, it really fitted the game well. I agree that the water sound was very relaxing.

Suggestions for improvements:
- it wasn't immediately clear how to move the blocks, make it super obvious
- i didn't understand the filling mechanic? i.e. when you complete the puzzle you have to wait for the well to fill? i would prefer if it just ended immediately

thanks for making a game!
