LD28 — You Only Get One

One Minute Rogue by Verrazano 2013-12-18T06:26:00

Awesome! I had fun with this one. It's so refreshing to play an entry where your character can move at more than a snail's pace -- so many of the other entries I've tried are ruined by tedium, even if I wanted to like them. Also this is one of the few I played til the end - took me a few tries until I noticed the compass, lol. Oh, and damn that tricky necromancer, can he do that? I'm going to call up my soul lawyer, damnit!

Super Rashomon RPG by Tyro 2013-12-17T03:33:00

Yay! An action-rpg! Definitely my favorite LD entry I've played so far. Very polished, and damn, the game is HUGE! Lots of variety in scenery and enemies too. If I could change one thing though, it'd be to make the run speed a little higher. I'm impatient damnit, I want to explore faster!

1 by ComaToes 2013-12-17T01:06:00

lol. Not really a game in any way, but a pretty amusing toy to click on for slightly longer than I want to admit. I guess not bad for when "you only have one" hour to make something.

The mighty spear by Poxymyr 2013-12-18T05:53:00

Dunno why, but I really, really like this idea. It's pretty frustrating though - saving at each door, or having multiple hits, or just restarting faster would have helped. And the controls could be a bit more polished. But the idea has got to be my favorite interpretation of the theme, it's so simple, but it's great. I wish I'd thought of it!

Atop A Dark Mountain by Maple 2013-12-17T03:50:00

Gameplay is simple but fairly fun. I love the graphics and general atmosphere, you've got a lot of skill in doing pixel art. The random quotes are slightly confusing and amusing. Good work!

Epic Last Bottle Of Milk by psychomonster 2013-12-17T01:56:00

Pretty entertaining, almost kind of feels like a rougelike. You should put a gameplay screenshot as your main screenshot, I think more people would take a look. I kind of expected some kind of dumb non-game just from the thumbnail but it was actually one of the better games I've tried.

OP is OP by TeamQuadratic 2013-12-20T04:01:00

Overall pretty good. Most of the powers were pretty meh but I really really loved the gravity defyer power -- never would have thought that combining double jump and glide on one jump key would work as well as it did, and it feels just right. The sprite for it was pretty cool too. I'd kinda like to see a game that focused on just that power, with unlimited use of course.

Fat the police by Zekyon 2013-12-17T02:26:00

Amazing graphics and music and general presentation. But as others have said, the interface is basically broken, which is sad because the look and feel really made we want to keep playing. And the idea is actually really solid, kind of a different take on chu chu rocket's gameplay. Keep working on it, seriously. The game has a lot of potential.

Byte's Socks by drkrunk 2013-12-20T05:44:00

Very polished. The art style is great, I love the rocks with swirl's on them (in particular, for some reason.) Music is really good, and the run and jump physics are good. Really good all around. And the whole sock thing is a pretty brilliant take on the theme. A good reminder to take an extra pair of socks with me next time I go into space.

Jejeboy: Mad Shitter by Jejeboy 2013-12-18T06:51:00

Da fuck I just play? No really, this is fantastic. Took me a while to figure out exactly how the, um, fecal mechanics worked. I think I gave this the highest ratings of anything so far, it's extremely polished, to a glossy finish even. (You could even call it a polished turd.) I love the graphics -- kind of makes me want to make a simply styled 3d game like this. Heh, of all the games to make me really think I should try out Unity, funny it would be this. Good work!

Penguins Gone Mad by _zulli 2013-12-25T03:04:00

Pretty cool. The idea of a "tower defense" game where you directly play one guy on one tower is pretty clever, one of the more inventive uses of the theme. The graphics are kind of crude but the sound and visuals of shooting the penguins was pretty satisfying. I like the different looks of the penguins too.

Meteorites Shower by AikoCraft 2013-12-20T06:19:00

It needs work as is, but it's a promising idea, and very original. Properly fleshed out and polished it could be pretty great. I'd recommend making the hitboxes on the meteors way, way smaller (less than half the size) so you get lots of close calls where it looked like you should have died, and when you do die there's no question that you were supposed to. It's always a good principle to make things as fair as possible to the player, especially when things get difficult.

The Enemy by CogentInvalid 2013-12-20T03:30:00

Really cool art style, very unique, and so simple. I like the way everything was outlines. The gameplay's also pretty unique. Good out of the box thinking.

Race The One by HybridMind 2013-12-16T03:42:00

That's awesome. I love that the one key that's used is the '1' key. Not much to play, but it's awesome just as a joke/novelty. And not bad for being made in an hour.

Give Me A Hand by Sink 2013-12-16T04:17:00

Nice! I like the simple look and color scheme. Very nice atmosphere. Gameplay could be more polished but definitely holds the interest with all the different abilities. Music is repetitive but it does help the delirious atmosphere.

Monogon by Rscar 2013-12-17T01:38:00

Wow! I really like the idea here. The art too -- I've seen a lot of entries with simple black and white art but it really looks nice here. The gameplay reminds me of minecraft, actually, except you can only place one block at a time, lol. A little frustrating as it is, but some real potential.

You Only Have One Key by Clayblob 2013-12-18T04:59:00

Not too bad. Didn't like the concept at first but then I started having fun figuring out how to get around the levels. It's surprisingly tricky, somehow my mind didn't want to let go to go left after jumping, lol.

Me and My Box by Kaslai 2013-12-20T05:54:00

Pretty cool for not being finished, though I don't know how you would have made the gameplay that interesting. Mostly I just really liked the art. It's just really cool when someone comes up with something so dead simple that also happens to be immediately appealing. Wouldn't mind seeing this art style again.

Yeeah, I'm the sideways dra-gon, doing my sideways thing!
Bitches I fly with my feet!
Uh, oh, the sideways people coming to get me!
BURN LITTLE SIDEWAYS PEOPLE BURN!

Blood Moon by MagnesiumNinja 2015-08-27T01:52:00

Wow. Really, really good game. I mean, I can find lots of things to nitpick but only because I find myself evaluating it as if it were a real, full fledged game and not something made in 72 hours. Definitely in a category above most of the other entries.

Really loved the gamefeel and the ninja-like quality of the shadow form. Controls could be made a little more polished though, if you keep working on it. It wasn't always 100% intuitive feeling, but again, that's just nitpicking.

Some of the graphics are a bit bland, but other parts are insanely well done. I loved the title screen and the parallax clouds background. And the game is just so complete, it even has saving.

Fantastic work overall.

Flesh & Fish by metalchouchen 2015-08-25T21:08:00

WTF

Troopers' Starship by RoundFork 2015-09-05T21:06:00

I really, really liked the idea behind this. Really loved the tentacle spike things that made you feel like an alien.

It was a little hard to enjoy the game though, mostly because of the respawn system. Glad to hear you're fixing this in a post jam version -- I know how it is to not have time to fix broken stuff. :P

Some thoughts on how you could make a post jam version really cool:

* Make the character move faster, and maybe add a sprint button that drains stamina. If you're revamping the combat, you could even play around with allowing multiple lunges before running out of stamina, but with the risk of not having enough stamina left to sprint to cover.

* The sneak mode is WAY too slow, I never used it. I don't think the game necessarily needs a sneak button though.

* The animation and game feel is a little off. It's a little too fluid and 'juicy.' It needs more 'crunch' to it, if that makes sense. It's hard to say how you do that - I thinks its about making the animation faster, and happen in bursts. Like after you lunge and impale a guy, it should have a moment of anticipation, and then the animation of ripping him apart should happen really fast. Play around with it, I guess.

Anyways, like I said, I really loved the idea behind this, and the basic design. It makes me want to try my hand at a 3d game next ludum dare :)

A Fox's Journey by Pusty 2015-09-09T23:04:00

Controls and interface were a little jarring at first but I got into it after a bit and beat the chicken boss, which was kind of frustrating but entertaining. Nice graphics, and I like the little jokes that play when you die, I might have to steal that idea :) It's good to see so many adventure type games this jam.

One thing that held it back though was how your attack stopped you from moving and took a while to execute, really messed with the gamefeel. If you were to change just that to be an instant attack that didn't mess with your movement then the game would be about 200% better, even if it was a lot easier.

Overall though, good first LD!

Groop by Demetz 2015-08-25T04:16:00

STAY AWAY FROM MY DOOR!! NO, MY DOOR! YOU ARE THE REAL MONSTERS!

Nice and polished, but ramped up a bit too slow. Fun once it going though!

Cleanup of the Black Lagoon by Culturebosh_games 2015-08-27T01:05:00

I got such a kick out of this. Any game that lets you eat bags of garbage, beer cans and heroin needles is a winner in my book.

Pretty well rounded too - nice graphics, nice sound (I like the sad music at the end), fun gameplay, etc.

My best score was 174,880.

Monster Academy by feiss 2015-09-05T19:37:00

Fantastic audio / visual presentation. Really entertaining little waste of time :)

Not Enough Souls by Divitos 2015-08-25T04:39:00

Very unusual mechanics, and nice game feel. Never was quite sure what I was doing though but I enjoyed body slamming dudes over and over. There seems to be some pretty cool gameplay hiding behind the learning curve and somewhat unintuitive controls.

LD44 — Your life is currency

Untitled by khaoz-fang 2019-05-01T07:12:51Z

This game confuses me lol. Great graphics but not intuitive. I feel like I need to get really high to be on this games level.

Grand Theft Life by silkworm_sweatshop 2019-05-03T03:03:41Z

This is awesome, my favorite game so far this jam. The art and the mechanics are simple but work so well. Sound is good too. I'd also like to see more options, though it makes me wonder how much a game like this could be expanded without losing its simple charm (I think the fast pace is part of the appeal, but you could probably maintain that while giving more options.)

Paynplayne by OrbitalBlueprint 2019-05-04T07:27:51Z

Fun game, mechanics were a little quirky but I still loved it the whole way through. The music is fantastic. I couldn't figure out how to fullscreen it though, it was kind of a small window on my screen.

Depths by potatolain 2019-05-05T01:28:19Z

This is really cool - reminds me that I've been meaning to make a game for an old system, maybe the original gameboy. Really nuts to think about doing that for a ludum though -- awesome work!

Lifelust by MateusBoga 2019-05-02T03:55:27Z

Awesome graphics and music. Gameplay's pretty repetitive though, but the slick art and animations made it fun for a good while. It'd be cool to see a full game made with this concept / character.

Super soul wipeout by Korteh 2019-05-05T01:49:19Z

Stylish! I like it. I've seen a few games now use the whole 'one resource' conept (for ammo, life, currency, and time) and it works quite well. Graphics were kinda buggy (texture misalignments and z-fighting) but still had great visual appeal, and with the music, etc. made for a fun feel. Good stuff.

Deep Space Prospector by Roidz 2019-05-01T06:30:42Z

Slow but still pretty engaging. Nice particle effects and music. I really dig your take on the theme -- the whole 'one resource' thing works really well. If you do work more on it, I think it would be worth it to tweak it to have a faster pace. Maybe have some smaller orbs that can be picked up by flying over them.

American Healthcare by Abraxas Interactive 2019-05-02T03:22:59Z

Psychadelic. I like the way the screen tilts as you steer your bullet, it feels really right and intuitive.. I think it would be better if the enemies were more of a recognizable visual / symbolic representation of healthcare though. They seemed more like symbols for computer networking or something, haha.

Arrow of Light by sylvie 2019-05-07T06:44:54Z

Pretty fun! A little bit slow paced and grindy at parts, but it was satisfying to finish. I liked the ending where you could go and talk to everyone. The music was great and really set the mood for each area.

EnigmaDeath by DigitalLimestone 2019-05-02T07:16:54Z

Core platforming mechanics are actually pretty solid, though I was wish there was some kind of effects when you die (sound and particles.) Clever take on the theme.

Your Life, My Currency by Jayometric 2019-05-05T00:57:45Z

When I was first figuring out how to play I sent a lot of people to hell that didn't deserve it :)

Our Dear Friend by Wildebeest 2019-05-01T05:22:30Z

Very atmospheric, with good gamefeel and I like the little touches like the glowy worms and moths that give health. Difficult though, even kind of unfair, but that could be fixed with a few tweaks. Overall really well done.
