I had a lot of fun killing chickens. XD
Really charming game! I felt like the feather ability was a little slow, but it was fun and challenging even.
The feather ability is slow because the chicken were spraying them like crazy and you would die instantly ^^
Thank you for playing my game! :D
Attacks took too long to charge up, so it was very hard to hit enemies, but the art was fantastic!
I really liked the music and the art style. Good job!
I'm very impressed with the amount of content in 48 hours. Nice work!
Thanks to everyone who played it! :D
@TheRuseman & krasus Thanks!
@shawn42 thank you! This is my first game jam so I went all in :D
I didn't make it past the exploding chickens. 10/10
good, but when i ran the game i found an error where all the physics froze.
Hm. I assume the exploding chickens are not meant to continually come back and keep exploding. They are almost impossible to kill. Interesting concept though. At some point I got the slime weapon... not sure how. :D
Great job on the artwork and map design.
@avultima They are! And if you know how to kill them it's not easy either :D (If you go to the next level the character is asking the same question)
And again thanks everyone for playing this :D
Like I said this is my first Ludum Dare and if I'm honest I never expected anyone to play this ^^
If you start your game with the batch file please post the error log with your comment here so I can fix it :D
Got killed by a golden chicken on my first try! Really cute fox sprite and dialogue. Also good amount of content for 48 hours.
Nice story, good gameplay. :)
Looks cute, I could not get it to work on Mac OS X.
Loved the art style, overall it was very charming and nice! But ya, the feather shooting was a little slow, which was making it very hard to aim. But still very good :)
Really cute art style, and had fun hunting chickens :)
Fun game, I dig the first attack animation. Exploding chicken add to experience of course!
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: me/game/startscreen/StartScreen : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0
at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method)
... used Java 7
Exe did not work at all...
Really cool graphics with the advanced pallet :D Fun game to play.
@KodingNights I'm sorry but your Java version is outdated. I'm not even using the newest one (8) so I'm sorry to tell you: to play you have to update your Java
Did not work for me! Sorry.
The combat felt pretty strategic with slow moving bullets and not being able to move while shooting, and it was hard but not too hard. Good job overall.
Pretty neat! Great graphics.
I was unable to run this, threw java exceptions - looks like a fun game from screen shots.
Surprising amount of gameplay and polish, specially for a compo game. Congratulations!
I liked it, nice game, mate :)
Some little problem in terms of gameplay, but works great in 48 Hours!
The art style is really really nice. An impressive amount of content for 48 hours. Great job:) The exploding chicken always get me:(
Fun and challenging game, I think there might be something wrong with the dialogue, or I am not reading it right, but an excellent game nonetheless. Good job.
oh, a great art+
killing chickens+
Was a hard battle system for me
It was interesting ;) Good job!
funny and good game nice idea and good graphics.
A lot of visual glitches on windows 7 =(
Worked for me on Mac OS X. Great art style, and impressive amount of content for 48 hours. With the unforgiving combat, I was a bit insulted by the "stop dying" messages...but maybe I'm just sensitive ;) I hated the feather ability at first, but in the end it became my favorite, once I figured out its advantages. Cool game.
Great work under 48 hour! The music is very nice!
Great pixel art. Attack speed was annoyingly slow, but it made things challenging.
Great game, the attack speed (and being frozen while attacking) and having to use the mouse to clear dialogues were the only negatives.
Simple and fun. Very good work
Nice work! Maybe you should speed up attack. Not having to wait between the moment you press fire and the moment the shoot goes would make the game more dynamic!
Hearts didn't work, enemies often would not shoot horizontally, and I didn't really like not having control over the weapon, but I liked the amount of levels and enemies and the 'loading' screen text was very enjoyable.
The game looks really cute and brought me some memories of games I've played when younger, on my SNES. :3
The characters look really cure and the art is nicely done, soundtrack is also really nice and completes the games in a good way. :)
It would be better to use the keyboard to skip the text, since controls are keyboard based.
Projectiles/powers take a bit to shoot, the slime power felt like it was the weakest for me until now. :P
But overall, nice and charming game! Congrats! :D
The wind-up for each attack takes forever, and I'm quite appreciative of that. I like that I could move quickly in speed mode 1, but was forced to dock down to speed 2 just so I can time my attacks correctly, slowing the action down significantly. I think this game would work better as an action game, and thus, expected faster actions.
A little shame that most attacks were ranged projectiles. Slimes had a more interesting attack pattern, and it could have been interesting to see more of those.
Overall, think it's good entry, but has a lot of space for improvements.
It's a pity that the game does not pause when you are on the menu!
Also it could be an entirely keyboard-based game, the switch within the mouse is a bit disturbing.
Attacks are a bit horrible and slow to cast and target... x)
Monsters always moving randomly and quick after shooting, the time you dodge the attack, and that you try to shoot him, he is elsewhere and ready to attack you again. x)
I ended up with a strange freeze which appears in the first humans level.
I tried again, until The Boss... I unfortunately left the game before I beat it...
Hearts that I found on the map did not recover my life... I have suffered too much... maybe I'll try later... xD
Thanks for this ...experience! Still amazing, you really made a lot!
Oh, I played on the "( Windows) (OUTDATED)" version. :)
lovely pixel art!I have found a bug when the charactere talks: the dialogue gets duplicated. Gameplay is good and sound is nice too! really well done!
Cute graphics, nice game. I included it in part 19 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) http://youtu.be/bouSnGLQUcs
I was unable to defeat the boss. Gave up after the loading screen had mocked me enough because of my repeated failures :/
My main issue with the boss, was that I was unable to land hits on it on purpose. I have no idea where its collision box was, or how the hits were counted. Sometimes I would inflict damage, but for the most of it my hits were completely ineffective.
Hearts also did nothing to increase my health (although I'm just assuming here that that's what they were supposed to do)
It was also a tad annoying to click to skip messages, especially since they advanced line by line (instead of by "page"). This game could have been completely controlled by keyboard, as another person already said in the comments.
Having said that, I really liked the graphics and the music, and although I wasn't fan of the "attack delay" at first, it really made the encounters more strategic and challenging, making me think before shooting, instead of going trigger happy. I ended up loving that mechanic (although the delay could be a bit shorter...).
I also liked the idea of copying enemy attacks, but I'm not really sure how that worked.
Gameplay issues aside, this game has an incredible amount of features and content for a Compo entry (enemies with different behavior, dialogue, game hints, music, graphics, game settings, etc). Particularly amazing given this is your first LD.
Although I was unable to beat it, I think this is a solid entry that I'd love to see polished into a full game.
Good job!
@Jupiter_Hadley thank you!
And thanks everyone for writing so many (and long) comments! I learned a lot already! Like the fact that I shouldn't make health potions look like hearts and the annoyance to use the mouse to skip. This combat thingy is something I came up within the last few hours so it isn't as balanced as I wanted it to be.
And I think I gave too little explanations how to do things (like getting skills,or the fact that you need to kill the golden chickens to beat the end boss). I really had lots of fun doing this, playing other games and reading comments from people who actually played my game (never really had that before). So like I said many times: Thanks to everyone! :D
I really liked this game! Considering you did everything in 48 hours, you accomplished a lot!
The mechanic of getting the enemies abilities was unique, although I wasn't entirely sure how I was getting the abilities.
Attacking random chickens is never wrong... besides, they were ganging up on me and stuff... It was a little strange to have to click through the dialog when using the keyboard for everything else. I liked the art style and the sound effects / music were very fitting, great work!
Controls and interface were a little jarring at first but I got into it after a bit and beat the chicken boss, which was kind of frustrating but entertaining. Nice graphics, and I like the little jokes that play when you die, I might have to steal that idea :) It's good to see so many adventure type games this jam.
One thing that held it back though was how your attack stopped you from moving and took a while to execute, really messed with the gamefeel. If you were to change just that to be an instant attack that didn't mess with your movement then the game would be about 200% better, even if it was a lot easier.
Overall though, good first LD!
Exploding chickens? How crazy is your head to have such an idea? :P Chicken attack after 3rd lvl is a bit slow and hardly usable i think, but the game itself is great!
