LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

I liked it, but my keyboard only accepts so many button presses at a time!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Planet Licker by ohsqueezy 2015-08-27T19:06:00

The graphics and sound give that awesome "retro" feel, which made it more enjoyable.

my lack of a lickable controller aside (and the knowledge of where these laptop keys have been) -- the movement mechanic was actually pretty interesting and fun. I had to keep remembering which key would move to which planet, which interestingly got harder the further along I went.

After lickin' some planets, I won! I guess! I mean, I don't know what I did to win, but I did! It might have been better to have a score / timer / combination and have the amount of mines increase the more planets you lick? Maybe? I don't know.

Still, innovation 5/5, would lick planets again

Monstaaaaar! by ilikescifi 2015-08-24T23:34:00

It took me a little bit to figure out how to play this game. I quickly figured out clicking the mouse did something, but I couldn't figure out how to move the monstaaaaar... until he ran off the cliff and got killed by an angry mob. 8/10, would jump off cliff again

IGN mocking aside, I liked the music and how the game flowed. The concept was pretty simple, but it worked out I wanted to know more about the monstaaaaar.... why did he like mushrooms so much? Did the angry mob just want to destroy him because he was eating their mushroom crop? Does he have a monstaaaaar wife? The possibilities are endless :)

Irksome Knight by Elemental Zeal Games Studios 2015-09-07T15:27:00

It took me a little bit to realize that the goal was to let your allies take the bruising. The character's aggro is through the roof, though, so if you try and take a swing in there you might end up getting your butt kicked.

I found myself wishing for some other fighting mechanic, such as blocking or something like that.

Money Monster Millionaire by Potato & Taco 2015-09-11T02:16:00

I am a monster with a salary of $14,400,000. That's a lot.

Swamp Man by Mr-Hide 2015-08-30T21:01:00

Achievement unlocked, I killed all of the villagers! I think I got lucky because only one of them seemed "courageous" and aggresive towards me.

The flamethrower animation was great, but the fire animation seemed extremely fast. I wish that there was some kind of indication as to how many swamp balls I was carrying.

Windmills in the Sky by Fib 2015-08-31T01:40:00

I really liked this game! It is very well polished and plays nicely. I (unfortunately) don't have anyone else to play with, so I just had to play with myself. Er... that sounded... uh... well, it was still pretty fun.

Terror Bird Feeding Frenzy by jwin 2015-08-25T23:30:00

This game was awesome. It was fun to play, the controls were tight, I liked eating food, etc, etc, etc. I thought the tutorial was excellent and not boring, so it worked great.

The game itself was really really easy... I mean, the only enemy is yourself. I guess to get the high score you would need to sprint more, and then you would run the risk of running out of energy.

5/5. 10/10. 11/10. Would eat ice cream and bananas again.

Black Licorice II - Return of the Salt by swinestudios 2015-08-31T01:33:00

This was a unique take on the tower defense genre. I personally don't like black licorice, so it was easy for me to see them as the monster.

I found it a little tricky to play, as the strategy seemed to be to bypass the towers and get to the end as quick as possible, otherwise the towers respawn. Overall, nicely done!

Primary objective by Aurel Bílý 2015-08-26T14:09:00

This game is incredible, especially considering it was a compo entry. The artwork was superb, the music was just right, and it was, albeit short, a complete game!

I had to play it 5 times to get all of the endings. If you just ride the hoverbike off into the sunset you're not a monster! ... although I guess maybe you are because you might have just stolen the hoverbike...

Burden by TimBeaudet 2015-08-27T19:28:00

Windows 10 64-bit here.

Unfortunately I was unable to play this. Windows event viewer shows that the app is crashing, but doesn't give any other useful information.

After re-installing OpenAL32, the game did launch, and sound worked, but nothing shows up on the screen. I downloaded glew and tried every permutation of DLLs that I could find, but nothing worked.

I tried running it in every compatibility mode as Administrator and as regular user, I tried both the checkpoint version and the original version, I made sure that the account had full access to the folder structure, and I ensured that all files in the folder structure weren't marked "read only."

Sorry I couldn't be more help :(

RPG Director by HeyZeus 2015-08-27T19:37:00

Hey, there ain't anything better than the first Dark Stages music from Mega Man 2. I mean, once that beat starts going I just can't help myself.

This game felt like a direct port of a game I have for iOS: Game Developer Story, right down to the consoles being named something different but still close enough that you know what we mean (ZBox).

Overall, the game was interesting, although I was able to break it by entering characters into the text box when allocating funds. My game sold over 2.5 million units but was not on the "top selling" charts, which was odd. Probably because the input for how much funds I was allocating to different areas was NaN.

Spooky Cuties by OnlySlightly 2015-09-10T17:17:00

Hi, my name is spooky sara, and I'm 1208 years old. I like some TV shows that I'm assuming are about vampires, but not episodes 1-3 :). Funny stuff, liked it!

I tried to delete my conversation with someone, but it ended up crashing the game :(

First Person Giant Monster Game by Xanjos 2015-09-13T14:55:00

The monster (or shadow of the monster) looked fantastic, and I loved that I was way bigger than all of the little guys running around.

I found that all of the humans seemed to run to one particular spot, so it was pretty easy to hit them when they got there. Like fish in a barrel.

It was a little hard to aim without a crosshair. Especially when I first started and I was shooting a big rock but was so close that my own boulders didn't even render.

Otherwise, I think I need to get a better laptop before next LD. Any Unreal Engine 4 game that I've played has been pretty choppy. Obviously not your fault, but I feel like my computer's inadequacies prevent me from giving your game a fair shake :(

Demonsterization by CtrlAltTea 2015-08-28T01:37:00

The concept of this game is interesting! I wasn't really able to keep all of the different shapes straight in my head, and the wizard was hot on my heels, so I just picked the path with the least amount of things on it.

In the end, I was still a monster.

sector.33 by ziege 2015-09-10T17:29:00

I really liked the mechanics of this game! The graphics were simple, but the gameplay made up for the simplicity. Actually, I think the minimalist graphics really added to the overall mood of the game.

It is pretty hard! I agree with the others that some kind of a checkpoint system would be nice -- I found myself being able to rush through the earlier levels because I knew them so well.

All in all, nicely done!

You Are The Muncher by BoaHeck_ArtGent 2015-09-07T15:43:00

As with the others, I found the beginning to be excruciatingly slow. I went the wrong way twice, and was close to giving up before I found the first thing to eat.

Once I was out in the open, it got pretty fun. The level-up mechanics were nice, giving incentive to keep playing. The increasing number of cops as you keep playing increased the difficulty without making it impossible.

Sometimes I found it difficult to distinguish what was something I could walk over vs. what was a wall. Everything had a similar color palette, so it took me a bit to figure out what was a building wall vs. what was just a transition from one surface to the next.

Adding additional music layers as you leveled up was a really cool idea, but it didn't continue throughout the rest of the game.

Overall, nicely done!

Pokemen by Skyfish 2015-08-29T15:34:00

This was a pretty fun game. The concept was good, and the art style worked pretty well.

As the others have said, the gameplay got a little repetitive. From reading your comments, it sounds like there might be something to following the trainer's text, but it wasn't exactly clear to me how to do it.

Purge by Lukbebalduke 2015-08-25T23:16:00

I can't believe you finished this in 48 hours! Incredibly ambitious, and it pretty much worked. Everything was well done, the graphics, the audio, the mood, the theme... I mean... I am very impressed

I found it hard to advance when my guys were spawning so far back and the scroll speed was pretty slow, especially when the concentration of enemies is so high.

I give it 5/5 because I am damn impressed. Well done.

Excluded by Tanner 2015-09-12T15:17:00

I am impressed that you accomplished so much in 48 hours! I managed to eat most of the food before succumbing to exhaustion.

Wake the Monster by Zerkruemler 2015-09-10T22:51:00

I liked the concept of the game, and I appreciate that you used scratch to do it (from the sounds of it, just to challenge yourself even further).

The idea that the amount of health and stuff that the human gets before you become the monster determines the difficulty is pretty interesting, but I don't know if it translates too well.

My Summer as an Infected Macrophage by unitycoder_com 2015-08-25T17:50:00

I really like this game. It is basically the exact same concept that I tried (and failed miserably) to make for LD 31. The graphics worked great and looked great, and it was a perfect take on the the theme.

As the others have pointed out, I wish there was some way to know how well I've done (besides just getting bigger).

Thanks!

Shifting by Vacso 2015-08-25T01:58:00

I'm not sure why I have to kill cats. YOU MONSTER!!

Overall, the game works and there is a clear scoring system. Becoming a monster for 120 seconds seemed like an incredibly long time considering that you simply annihilate everything you touch. I got the feeling that it was night time, but the entire thing just seemed too dark. I thought something was wrong with my monitor. It was worth messing around with, but 109MB worth of downloading seems like a lot!

They Dug Too Deep by GoudaGames 2015-08-27T18:33:00

I played twice and got 39 dwarves in 1:05 both times, so it must be fate!

Overall I liked the art style and the mechanics seemed pretty solid. It definitely felt like I was a monster as the dwarfs screamed and exploded into a bloody fountain!

However, as others have mentioned there were some frame rate issues. It wasn't so bad when it was consistently slow, but then something would happen and the game would go into hyperspeed.

Royal Flesh by jcsirron 2015-08-28T01:49:00

Same as the others, runtime error

Rise of Nosferacula by vitorlanna 2015-08-28T02:05:00

The style, graphics, and music all fit perfectly together and make the game really fun to look at. The concept works well, and fits the theme great!

I thought the gameplay itself was a little tough. The constant clicking tired out my hand, and it seemed like it was a little formulaic. Once I learned that I needed to hypnotize X number of people in order to survive, it was just a simple strategy.

However, there was one bug -- I played the Jam version, so maybe you already fixed this, but I was unable to unleash my final sacrifice to save my bacon.... those villagers with broomsticks sure can wreck a castle!

Wasted Waters by psychonull 2015-09-07T16:10:00

It kind of reminded me of a game that I have for iOS: Super Mega Worm.

I loved the Wilhelm scream, and the ominous music definitely added to the mood of the game. I found it a little bit difficult to control, especially considering that you can't exactly see the people on the bridge, making for most of the jumps being complete misses.

Disco Arachno by Thingo Studios 2015-09-08T23:06:00

Once I understood the concept, and how to score points, it was really fun!

I found the color of the shoe hard to see, especially when you're trying to get your shoes down on the correct colored spot AND avoid electric shocks.

I really liked the application of the theme, and the music was fitting to the gameplay. Well done!

MonsterCave by alhvi 2015-09-12T15:11:00

I really liked your take on the theme. It was definitely unique, and the idea of the monster getting evicted from a cave added to the humor!

The thing that makes it extra hard is that you can't just spam the props, because they break, and the cost of repairing them makes it so at the end you can't pay your rent. Overall, nicely done!

Stealth Yeti by cottontrek 2015-08-25T23:44:00

This game is awesome! The characters are adorable. The lighting effects are great, and the gameplay is intuitive and simple.

Despite the simplicity, it is a tough game! You actually have to think! I really enjoyed it.

Thanks!

Monster Robot Frenzy by dpulrich 2015-09-08T01:51:00

The animation was very fluid, and the graphics were all well done. I couldn't quite figure out how to get enough points to upgrade... People kept running away from me!

DIAL-NPC (Day in a life of a NPC) by mzmiric5 2015-09-10T22:42:00

I like the concept of this game! Those damn "heroes" have it comin!

In response to some of the other comments - the fact that you move slower than the "hero" makes sense because in the game you're basing yours off of the NPCs really are slower... but it would've been nice to see the powerups give a little more boosts to give you the ability to really stick it to the hero.

I managed to mess up the game by switching from one NPC to the other (menu -> start game, switch character).

All in all, pretty solid!

Forest Monster by Geckoo1337 2015-09-08T23:11:00

I think that this game would work great on an iPad! Avoiding the bombs was simple but challenging a the same time, and I liked that the graphics were simple but very approachable.

Well done!

Monster Detective by popcorn897 2015-08-27T18:54:00

This game has got a LOT of content! The graphics, sound effects, and music all go really nicely together and the gameplay was interesting -- finding clues (whodunit) but also a platformer!

If you ask me, the entire lot are monsters for building such a ridiculously dangerous house! The chef is simply wasting gas by leaving his burners going all the time, for some reason there's a wizard's tower that is completely booby-trapped, and the pool doesn't even have water in it.

It seemed really ambitious, and all-in-all I thought it was well done!

However, I played it three times and unfortunately I got Mr Monster Detective McMillan McCoy stuck each time, causing me to restart...

Got stuck on some spikes (I think they're spikes?) in the game room while moving right-to-left. This happened during two different play throughs.

Ran through the wall on the library after jumping across the platforms (left-to-right) and fell to the bottom, but was stuck on the other side of the wall.

Kawaiii! by tjp7154 2015-09-08T01:45:00

The graphics and controls are impressive considering you did everything in 24 hours!

I figured out that holding down SHIFT makes you go faster in general, so I found myself just holding it down when I was running around. I didn't realize until the second playthru that you actually had to drop off food in order to score.... but after that I got a score of 75.

I: Alien by gnuwilliam 2015-08-25T17:35:00

I found the best strategy to be to skip your way to the door and get more people and then just hope to land on them. My best score was obtained after I died -- I kept bouncing around (no longer under my own control) killing humans left and right.

Overall I liked it!

HUNGRY BUNCH by ratking 2015-08-29T16:52:00

Considering that you did this in 3.5 hours, well done! It actually got pretty dang hard, especially when the monsters would get rearranged as you dragged them around.

My planet needs me! by reiknight 2015-09-12T15:55:00

The premise of this game is pretty good, but it was incredibly hard to get past the man walking since he changes direction instantly and his cone of vision catches you immediately.

Once you figure that part out, it is possible to finish. It is too bad that there isn't more to the game, as I think it has pretty good potential!

Vampshire by Aggrathon 2015-08-27T21:10:00

This game was a lot of fun! I thought the art was simple, but fit very well with the look and feel of the rest of the game. I managed to fill the entire map before forgetting to hunt.

It didn't seem like it was completely finished -- I had sheep pastures producing wool, but the tailor wasn't using them... and I never had silver or iron, so the blacksmith and jeweler never did anything. It might have been better if those options / resources had just been left off completely.

Once I had hunted enough times, I knew the "right" answer for all of the different scenarios, so it basically became a balancing reputation vs. strength game at the end. It would've been nice to see some randomness thrown in -- like, sometimes yelling at the thief works, and sometimes it doesn't.

Overall, very impressive that you were able to get something like this done in 48 hours!

The Migrant Crisis by MikeTheWayne 2015-09-11T02:26:00

The concept of this game is interesting, things get harder as it goes on and all that. I don't really have anything more to add that others haven't already pointed out (hard to see the green guys, hard to control one guy at a time).

All in all, it is pretty solid considering you did everything in 48 hours, and the premise was pretty solid.

Crop Circles 2015 by Keith Stellyes 2015-09-08T01:59:00

I really liked the concept of this game, but I was sure terrible at it!

I actually liked the graphics (in your description you say they aren't good), and I think combined with the music it really worked well.

Meet the Monsta by Schrodinger Games 2015-08-25T15:13:00

This is a great game. The art style is awesome, and the music fits everything perfectly.

Very very well done!

Scream Hunter by puppetmaster 2015-08-30T20:42:00

I really like the concept of this game, and the art/music create the perfect mood, fitting the theme.

Rowdy Boo by merzlot 2015-08-26T13:26:00

This is by far the best, most polished game I've played so far in LD33. The music and sound effects go perfectly with the style, and add to the ambiance, giving it high marks in Mood. The graphics are incredible, its crazy to think you were able to get all of this done in 72 hours. The collision detection and physics seemed very smooth and not forced.

Like others, I found the mouse sensitivity to be a little off and getting those higher points seemed very difficult, but, at the end of the day, it definitely adds length and complexity.

Very impressed!

Thursday the 12th : Lake Polygon by bossmojoman 2015-08-29T15:22:00

I really liked the graphics style -- the top down view worked well. The music and the theme were perfectly blended and, overall, the mood was perfect.

The controls seemed a little mushy to me. It was hard to chase down the campers when you don't move as fast as them. Throwing the machete worked well, when I had one, but that was very rare.

Also, small inconsequential bug I noticed: when the countdown timer gets below 10 seconds, the amount of time doesn't look quite right... IE, it says 6:9, 6:8, 6:7... but, like I said, that isn't really of any consequence to the game itself.

Wumpus World - Hunting The Hunter by SelfTitled 2015-09-12T16:04:00

I'm not very good at minesweeper, so I guess it didn't really matter that the "adjacent pit" indicator was essentially just random. I played over and over (and kept dying over and over), and eventually the hero just fell down a pit and I guess I won?

Who's The Monster by wellingtonbecker 2015-08-24T23:28:00

Pretty simple game, but I liked the tight controls. I actually really liked when the camera swung around and you had to take on tanks and choppers from the other side -- it made it 150 times more interesting.

I wish that it got harder (more tanks, tanks that take more than 1 hit, etc) as the game progressed, and it seemed like once I hit 75 points I lost control and could only stand there. Overall, it was pretty fun. Well done!

Sewer Glue by Damdoshi 2015-09-12T16:29:00

This game is great, especially considering that you accomplished everything in 48 hours! I really like that the concept allowed you to have different goals for the same game -- eat X of these people, eat X people, etc.

The graphic style was great, but the text was very hard to read.

Around the Waterfall by incobalt 2015-09-11T02:33:00

It is clear that you spent a lot of time working on all of the dialog between the different slimes. I was really surprised that none of them were duplicated!

Loki In the 27 th and a 1 / 2 Century by liquidmedia 2015-09-08T02:26:00

The amount of stuff that you've created during 48 hours is crazy! I really liked the announcement at the beginning and the music. You have some real talent!

Monsters In The Woods by snakezito 2015-08-31T01:46:00

I really liked the art style of this game. everything looked nice and polished. The controls were tight and responsive, which was good too.

It seems like you had something bigger in mind but then ran out of time -- I think that happens to most of us in Ludum Dare. Maybe you could write you intentions in the description? I know not everyone reads the description, but I do!

It's Only You by Flaid 2015-08-26T12:28:00

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback! I had a lot of fun (especially making the music).

I just want to address the "doesn't fit the theme" comments - My intention was to make the monster be the inner demons of the kid. I wanted to do four levels, one for each year of high school (ran out of time). Each level would have the main character doubt that he could do the thing he was trying to do, but, in the end, realize that he in fact COULD do it all along!

The lyrics I wrote for the songs convey this, but it is hard to listen to the lyrics while playing a fast (173 BPM!) rhythm game. The ending song says it best: "There ain't any monster in your way... it's only you!"

I don't expect to receive high marks in the "theme" category because it is a little abstract and I feel like I didn't get a chance to add the content to back up my idea, but I definitely did have the theme at heart while making this :)

Sparks 'N The Knight by UncleChris 2015-09-08T02:47:00

The mechanics of this game were spot on, but the controls were a little bit buggy. I liked the graphics of the main character.

Dr.Particulus: monster within by goodbadokay 2015-09-07T16:19:00

With the power of the purple pants I shall move unbelievably fast!

The game was pretty fun. I liked the random weapons, but I found myself wishing that spacebar was jump instead of W.

The music was a little bit repetitive, but I think it fit the theme and the overall mood that you were going for.

The water ghost by scambier 2015-09-08T17:11:00

I liked the idea of this game! The screams of the stupid kids were funny to me, and I just wanted to do whatever it is that I was doing to them more!

I think the potential to do some more with this is pretty good, as others have already pointed out. Nice work!

Eat Free by Team Myopia 2015-08-28T01:43:00

This is a perfect idea for this theme! I mean, who doesn't remember sitting down at their computer playing this game?? Oh, memories...

It seemed like there were some pretty significant gaps where there were no skiiers... not sure if I was just too far in one direction on the X axis or something, but there were a few times where the poor monster almost starved to death.

I made it to the top, but there was only trees blocking my way, and, in the end, the monster succumbed to hunger and died.

5/5, would eat free again.

Bob's Valley by Dejvo 2015-09-07T16:27:00

I liked the take on the theme! The idea of a monster trying NOT to be a monster (but still failing) is funny to me.

The controls were tight and responsive, and I came to really like pushing "S" to stop your left/right movement. Utilizing that ends up being critically important if you actually want to not be the monster.

Monster Truck Rampage by Denis347 2015-08-25T01:09:00

I actually quite liked the graphics. It seemed (to me) to give it some additional charm.

I found it decent to control, but I found myself falling off the map way too fast.

Not terribly innovate as far as the theme goes, but quite good for your first time!

INHUMANOIDS by felipeberquo 2015-08-31T01:55:00

I really liked the graphic styling of this game, and the music and the art really made it feel like you are the monster.

The gameplay seemed a little too simple to me -- I found that I could pretty much stand in the same place and kick the crap out of everything that came my way. I did have some problems with clicking outside of the game window, causing the game to lose focus. The nice thing is the game paused until it had focus again, but it was still kinda annoying.

Monster Rush by Tatsu 2015-08-25T17:30:00

I thought it was odd that I started out facing a fence and not facing the bridge, so I reversed and tried to go over the bridge... but I went straight through it... and then proceeded to get stuck on a hill to the point where I couldn't go forward or backward... just had to wait for time to get to zero (afterwhich it went negative).

I wanted to give it a fair shake, so I started again, this time driving through the fence, which worked. I ran over one test dummy before being completely stopped in my tracks by an immovable light pole which seemed to be about 3x as wide as it appeared, causing me to not get around it.

I feel a little bit sick after playing because the camera bobbed around like it was on springs or something.

It was very ambitious, but it just didn't work out for me.

The Stars are Watching by Xanderzoo 2015-08-25T18:12:00

Who doesn't like a spaceship shooter game?? It was fun, the explosions felt right, and the controls seemed about right to me.

I played the original (not post-jam) version because I wanted to play the actual entry. I can see why people complained about the lack of friction, but knowing that it was a problem allowed me to compensate for it while playing.

All in all, very impressive!

Don't Touch The Shredder, Jim. by Jan Tuts 2015-09-12T15:25:00

I touched the shredder. I shouldn't have done that

The Vampire Lord of Valea Noapte by Scripturus 2015-08-25T12:33:00

I appreciated the significant amount of back story in your description. I think it added a lot to the game for me -- knowing a little bit about what was going on before playing.

I really liked the concept of this game! I've always liked turn based style games, and this one was straightforward and easy to understand. I played it a couple of times (managed to get killed by an angry mob both times).

The graphics aren't much to look at, but it gets the point across. The music fit the style of the game and definitely added to the overall mood.

All in all, very nicely done!

The Weird Monster Thing's Adventure! by ThePugProgrammer 2015-08-31T01:23:00

This is pretty dang good considering you only worked on it for 8 hours! The controls were a little funky at first, but it was pretty easy to move around once I got used to it.

TAHC by n9Mtq4 2015-09-07T15:54:00

I found it was a lot easier to put the window size at something crazy like 1600 and the window scale at 1. Of course, then it kinda seems like cheating because it was a lot easier to know where to go to avoid the guards.

The invisibility ability of Chair (love the name, btw) is vastly superior to the speed ability of Hareeny. I found the increased speed just made me more likely to accidentally run into a guard.

Nice entry, you got a lot done in 48 hours!

Curse Those Heroes by FireTwin 2015-08-25T22:36:00

The premise for this game was really unique! I didn't really have someone to play against, so I played with myself. .... wait, that didn't sound right!

The fun part was that I randomly mashed buttons with my left hand and couldn't figure out why it was hard to get around things as the hero.

All in all, pretty fun.

One thing -- It wanted me to go through an entire installation process (includiing DX9), which I should already have... and for some reason the installation process took like 10 minutes, which seemed a little hefty considering the game play is much, much shorter.

Don't Get Caught! by astrophics 2015-08-30T20:14:00

I like the concept of this game! The gameplay is good, and the graphics are charming.

The only thing I can say about the game is that it could be more challenging as you go on. I'm sure that was your plan had you enough time.

Overall, really nice!

kid.isCaptured by RobotMeal 2015-09-08T22:16:00

I'm not exactly sure how to catch the kid... I did it a couple times on accident, but it seems like I couldn't quite grab him other times.

GW: Bloddy Camp by Gatobot14 2015-08-25T22:48:00

I honestly felt bad killing the poor campers! "Please no" and I'm like "OH GOD I'M SORRY BUT I AM THE MONSTER!" And then BAM, out of nowhere Teddy Roosevelt kicked my butt.

You definitely are the monster in this one!

BTW, I'm assuming CAMP64 is for 64-bit systems, but it didn't work on mine. I had to use the 32-bit one (which did work)

Llama Attack by corupta 2015-08-25T22:24:00

I really like the live animation of you all running away -- it was pretty funny.

You could tell that you didn't have time to finish, but what you did was pretty impressive considering the time constraints (and not knowing anything about the tool you were using)

I had fun with it :)

No Country for Troll Men by aberdeenphoenix 2015-09-08T02:12:00

I really liked this game! Even though it was a web game, while in full screen mode it felt like it was running from my desktop.

The controls were pretty fluid, although I found myself getting stuck on some of the fence edges. I think I managed to survive for 10 days before there were a TON of guys with spears that kicked my butt.

Monstermanity by D3giler 2015-08-24T23:47:00

I wish you would've zipped up everything into one file for easier play, but I assumed the data folder needed to be there, so I downloaded both.

I appreciated the voice over in the beginning! In my entry in the compo I focused a lot on sound, so it was good to see that someone else had at least put some effort into it. The music grated on me after awhile, but it was there, so it definitely counted!

There were a few times when I was able to get my monster through a wall where I wasn't supposed to, and at the end (after getting most of the upgrades), I landed on what I thought was the ground and instantly died.

The character design was good and I thought the controls were nice and fluid, exactly what a game like that would hope for. All in all, well done!

Pacmon by SpiritJZL 2015-09-11T02:11:00

This idea could go far as a multiplayer game, where you and a bunch of friends control the different ghosts.

I found myself getting stuck on corners a lot, and when the pacmen finally got their powerup they weren't very smart at coming to get me...

All in all, pretty good idea

Feed the Monster by humanatee_studios 2015-09-12T15:49:00

This is probably the most polished, most complete game that I've played in LD33. The premise is solid, the graphics are great, and the music is absolutely amazing.

The platforming part seemed really hard; I kept getting stuck on the corners of platforms. Some of the obstacles seemed really difficult to get around, too, requiring study of the scene and careful execution.

I am glad that I own a controller so that I could play this game!

5/5 would drink 6.5 litres of whiskey again

A Fox's Journey by Pusty 2015-09-08T02:40:00

I really liked this game! Considering you did everything in 48 hours, you accomplished a lot!

The mechanic of getting the enemies abilities was unique, although I wasn't entirely sure how I was getting the abilities.

MonSTEROID by blahgyn 2015-08-25T23:59:00

This game was great! The premise was hilarious, and I loved that giant things of whey protein heal you. The variety of enemies kept it interesting, and playing it a couple of times I got better and better which made it even more fun.

The music and art style fit perfectly, and you totally felt like a steroid monster.

5/5 Well done!

Tale of the Descendant by glerikud 2015-08-25T01:43:00

I had the same problem as the others when trying to play the web version, getting stuck on the loading screen. However, if you look at the description it says "We recommend playing the Windows version"

Mood was the best part of this game. The music, story, and art fit perfectly into a sense of eeriness. To be honest, I wasn't sure why the prince was confident -- I was not!

Overall, the story felt innovate and somewhat exciting at first, but seemed forced and somewhat repetitive in the later chapters. It fit the theme of the competition, and it wasn't something I've yet seen in the games I've played for this competition.

Monster Free by Realize2D 2015-09-08T17:05:00

This is great! My absolute favorite part was the animation of the monster tripping over a rock or a banana.

This is the second game I've played where this is the concept (Ski-Free in reverse), but I think I like this one better. I really appreciated everything more because this is a compo entry, so I know that you made everything from scratch.

It is easy enough to just dive right in, but challenging enough to keep you wanting to play more.

Well done!

Soul Hunter by Vaiaphraim 2015-08-27T20:37:00

Amazing how much story there is in this game! I imagine a lot of planning and coordination had to go into it to be successful.

I tried to be diligent and read everything, but it seemed like I went from "a girl with a bright future who suddenly has a strange hunger" to "well, I guess this soul will do." I ran around for a long time before finally fighting something, but I wasn't sure where the motivation for fighting was coming from.

Overall, I was impressed a what you got done! I think a little bit of creepy ambiance music would've gone a long way.

The Last Witch by Tanton-XHX 2015-09-12T14:54:00

The graphics are really nice, and I thought the sound fit the gameplay nicely. I am by myself, so I had to control both people simultaneously (which is somewhat difficult, obviously!)

The fireballs seemed to fire in random directions, so it was hard to use them to get rid of the murderous townspeople.

Overall, very polished and nice!

Turtle Troubles by richardjs 2015-08-28T02:13:00

I liked the idea! Some generic, never-before-seen protaganist thinks he can come in and ruin my brick world? Ho no, I don't think so.

The hit box seemed to be a little bit off, but it was in your favor, so I guess it was ok. I found that I got bored after a little bit, but it was quite impressive that you could get this done in 48 hours!

The Legend of Monsters by Eingya 2015-08-25T01:27:00

I love the NES-style feel. The graphics, teh sound, teh nostalgia! Big points for that. The plot was good, fit the theme, and was humorous.

But... that control scheme and level design. At first I thought it was innovative. But the amount of backtracking on level 2 was infuriating -- especially when I almost got done with the level, died, and had to start all over.
I saw the additional slots for additional monsters, so I was eager to see how that mechanic would work. After getting the second monster I was like "Ok, cool, now I can move diagonally." However, the speed of the diagonal guy seemed very erratic, and sometimes the speed would translate to the first monster, which just didn't seem to work. I found myself giving up in frustration after level 3.

Me by jofra 2015-08-28T02:24:00

This game looks great. I found it to be incredibly difficult, but, luckily, there's no limit to the number of times you can die (I even died twice from the same attack!)

It is obvious a lot of work and heart went into the graphics, and it was definitely awesome.

Hecatomb by FieroNZ 2015-08-31T00:42:00

I like the game, but I'm not entirely clear on why I keep dying. The graphics, sound effects, and music all mesh really well together and the usage of the theme is original and fresh.

Hugs by Granat 2015-08-24T23:59:00

I saw this game advertised on the home page, and, while I know you're not supposed to judge a game by its cover art... I totally did, and it was totally worth it.

This is exactly what I was hoping people would do with this theme. Something that took the theme and said "wait, what if you AREN'T the monster??"

The gameplay itself was fun if for no other reason that I could just run over all of the obstacles in my way to hug my precious squishy human friends. I wish there was a way to run faster, like a sprint or something, as the humans (although dumb) could easily run away.

The sound effects were perfect, and the elevator music fit the venue. Which I think was an office space? Maybe a hotel? Both? I'm not really sure.

Overall, I thought it was great!

Taxman by colinn 2015-08-25T18:04:00

This game showed that you don't have to have flashy animations to make a fun game. Although I still don't entirely understand all of the mechanics, it was fun to "be the monster" and collect taxes from people.

The fact that you developed in 6 hours is pretty impressive!

Fly On The Wall by Apostrophe 2015-09-10T01:25:00

I really like this style of puzzler. I read your description twice, but I guess I missed the part about clicking to pick up stuff until reading it the third time... so I guess maybe having the controls in/around the game window might be nice.

After I figured out the controls, I played all the way to the end. Nicely done!

Abominable by Cosmic5 2015-09-10T01:36:00

I really liked the graphics of this. It felt like an old-school game, but just a touch better at the same time.

I found moving around to be somewhat frustrating, like sometimes Cole didn't really want to move. Otherwise, I thought the music fit very nicely with the overall ambiance. Its too bad it isn't finished... I too bit off too much on my story, so my game isn't really finished either :(

Bite In Tandem: Euphoria by Vem 2015-08-31T00:51:00

I really liked the idea of biting to the beat, especially because it caused me to lose focus on dodging all of the bullets.

When the creature screams and has one of its appendeges flash red, do I win? Nothing else seems to happen... so it's not exactly clear... but I think I won :)

Professor Chaos's "Mean Sardine Machine" by Mach60KAS 2015-09-07T16:03:00

That was a lot of fish puns, but I think I built up an anemone to them after a whale.

Hero Hunt by StalsBG 2015-08-30T20:20:00

Very innovative!

Blood, The Monster is You by mikethingsbetter 2015-09-11T01:54:00

It was a pretty decent story, but I was a little bummed that the different choices didn't lead to different outcomes.

Ubix's Undersized Breakout by HeliosStudio 2015-09-11T02:05:00

The graphics of this game are pretty damn impressive, and the audio fits the feel of the game.

I found the controls to be really jerky and as a result it made it pretty difficult to control at times.

Saturday Morning Destruction by roaringcatgames 2015-08-30T20:26:00

I like this game a lot. Maybe its because I also did a rhythm game with arrows, but I thought it was very well done! I managed to play both monsters simultaneously.

Monster From a Dumpster by TeamWhatever 2015-08-25T17:43:00

It took me a little bit of time to learn how to play, and, even afterwards, I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to be doing. I throw garbage, and it flies around (which is cool, I liked the physics of it), but nothing else happens. Then I get points. Then I do it again. And again. Then the level is complete. I guess I won?

The music fit with the game's style, and I guess you're a monster because you throw garbage all over these nice people's manicured lawns! YOU MONSTER!

Christmas Liquidators by fABULOUS 2015-08-30T20:50:00

The character art in this game are great, and the music fits with the somber theme.

I am not entirely sure how to play this game; I randomly fired a bunch of people, and my boss said I did good. I tried pushing 1-4 like the instructions state, but it didn't seem to do anything. I also accidentally bumped into a bunch of the workers, causing the email on my PDA to get blown up.

MiniGolf Endless MMO by jimmypaulin 2015-09-07T15:21:00

Having messed around with iOS stuff a bit, I am very impressed that you got this done in a weekend! The music and sound effects were by far my favorite part, but the graphics fit nicely.

It took me a little bit to realize that all the other transparent squares were the "ghosts" of other players (not sure what they were at first), but once I realized it, I thought it was a really cool idea.

Otherwise, the blur effect on the top and bottom kinda messed with my eyes after awhile, and I didn't really like Kate Upton ruining my winning streak to tell me about Game of War (I was at the top of the leaderboard for a brief moment)... but, such is the life of a free-to-play iOS game :)

Business Demon by LeReveur 2015-09-08T22:27:00

I managed to make $16M without knowing what I am doing, so that is pretty good! Overall, creating a simulation is pretty ambitious, and I think you accomplished something pretty good considering the time constraint!

Pogue by wicht 2015-09-08T22:04:00

Well, I realized about halfway through that I was probably shooting people (hence me becoming the monster), but as I type I am about 4 minutes into the list of names, and I feel awful.
