It is an interesting concept that you have for the game. The graphics in my mind are the most jarring. The colors do not blend very well together. Try using a color palette to make sure your colors work together.
Other than that I think one thing that would help future games is to make it more obvious what is going on. I wasn't quite sure what was happening when just reading it and I didn't know what to do.
With a bit more time and work this could turn into a nice game though.
I liked the conversations with the slimes, very good humor! I would have liked to have been able to fight with my fellow slimes against the humans, even if it would have been a futile fight. The tiles might have been able to blend a little more with each other, but thats not a big deal. I was teleported to the other side of the game boundary though, that was fun to explore :D
Overall, I see the direction you were headed in, and enjoyed conversing with the slimes!
High scores from me, this was fun! I enjoyed throwing slime at the other slime NPCs and watching their reaction, until I triggered the human invaders and they slaughtered everyone wounded knee style, as you mention in the description.
Not to spoil what happens next but I did start fighting with the other slimes and eventually died (probably by bumping into the guarding human too many times). I'm sure there's more to discover but after 2 deaths I gotta move on and review more games, good work!
Cool idea, taking the slimes in JRPGs that players normally think nothing of when murdering. Giving them lives and personalities makes you feel even more awful for killing them. I like how well you captured the retro tile-based jrpg style. Great job!
This is my favorite game I've seen out of the entire compo this time!
I liked the story, and the take on humans as foreign beings you couldn't understand. I did run into some issues where a slime I was talking to would get "frozen" to me, but otherwise things seemed to work fine.
I agree with the other comments, the art palette could do with a change. I do like playing as the fantasy common enemy that is, the fearsome slime!
It is clear that you spent a lot of time working on all of the dialog between the different slimes. I was really surprised that none of them were duplicated!
The concept is interesting, feels like a mix of a j-rpg with shooter elements. Nice 8-bit style on the art too.
Randomized colors for characters is also a really nice thing too! :)
It's just a beginning, but you have a pretty much defined genre and a backstory to work on.
Cheers! :)
