I REALLY liked this, my only complaints were the toll keepers and (if I hadn't just grinded money on the first imp) the forced backtracking along a linear path. Honestly woulda given you an equal rating if the entire thing was just talking to M you nailed it with that art

Good consistent art style, fantastic music, interesting gameplay. Excellent entry, the only gripe I have is that the menu controls kept confusing me

I like the art style and the concept, the start was kind of slow but the end rooms were much more interesting!

Coooool art style and gameplay!!!
Nice undertale-like style game(i think so), i like it)
I love the graphics and art style and mood. Strong undertale vibe and it's awesome! I liked my character and the witch too.
Mechanically there is a problem evident early on. Health potions cost 8 and refill 20 health. So its easy to get infinite money by standing on the cactus to take damage, then walk in, buy health, heal, repeat. I'm honestly not sure if there was another intended way. I played all the way through though, it was a fun journey. The ending was a slight disappointment though, maybe you could have used some of the dialogue with the other stuff in the game and signs to build up to a more interesting conclusion?
Overall a great entry, thanks for making it!

Wow, nice! The music is great, I loved the bendy synth stuff, reminded me of some old Road Rash music I loved on Genesis.
The art was cute, and the story was fun. Length was just right, and I think I understood what the ending hinted at.
A nice all-around package, well done!
Thank goodness for friendly cactii, huh? So supportive!

Graphics and sound looks like undertale but with your own style. The concept is interesting and your game is really complete. A creature who flirts with the witch who created it ... why not.

That first cactus was super hard...
Jokes aside, I LOVED this! The best game I've played today. The art style was fantastic, and the music was just incredible, especially while talking to M. Got super difficult out of nowhere which was a (pleasant??) surprise. Loved/hated the ending if you know what I mean. I also genuinely laughed at some of the humorous bits in the game. Also was really invested in the story, the opening really drew me in. I will admit I did find the controls a bit confusing, maybe use of the mouse buttons for using items would've made it easier, but other than that great job!

Hey, this was a very fun game! I really liked the "feel" of the controls (text flowing along, speed of the character, combat with the imps), and the spritework on M was really nice! I would love to play a longer version of this!
I managed to beat it on the second try, when I realized that killing the imps recovered some life -- maybe make this a little bit more obvious to the player?
very stylish sprites and good history. love it!

Nice consistent artstyle. I also liked the obelisk dialog. The gameplay is pretty good.
But i feel that you did not need to stretch it towards the end with the long spike ways and the second toll guy. In my opinion it would have been fine if it was shorter and the stretching took away a little from my enjoyment.
Overall a good game.

cool game
this is a great concept! the music is great, and i really like the art style - especially M's character! :)
Very cool concept
Very coherent game as a whole, fits perfectly the theme. I wish I could do as much (and as good) in 48h!
I got a bad ending. Was it because I accidentally threw away the letter? It was fun, but I really wish there was a fullscreen option.
Cool ! The use of the theme is really nice, good mood, musics and dialogues.

Fun game, mechanics were a little quirky but I still loved it the whole way through. The music is fantastic. I couldn't figure out how to fullscreen it though, it was kind of a small window on my screen.
Such a fun and beautiful game!!! The graphics are spot on, wow. nice to see female characters for a change! Also, so much stuff in 48 hours, kudos
@gear-steak Thank you! Yeah, the linear path problem only really came to mind after the jam had ended, but oh well. I'm glad you enjoy the game's other aspects!
@killedbyapixel Yeah, that's definitely a way to go about it. Definitely not the most desirable, wish the time limit had given me more space to play with the mechanic, but oh well :P I'm not proud of how the ending came about either, it was written an hour before the submission so I couldn't have built it up more. Would've loved to though! I'm gladyou enjoyed it nonetheless, however!
@drrozza Yeah, the ending is definitely something I want to improve if I finish a post-jam release.
@robotsoulsgames Yep. The game has two endings. If you bring the letter to M's sister, she's nice, resulting in the good ending. If you don't have the letter, she locks you up and tortures you for the gold, something M hints at in one of her lines. This is the bad ending you got :P
@mutt The game has no fullscreen feature, unfortunately. Something to include in the post-jam release!
To everyone else, thank you for the kind words and criticism! I'm definitely going to make an updated post-jam version using your feedback, I hope you'll come back to it later if you enjoyed the compo version. Other than that I'm just glad this was received so well! Ludum Dare is always such an interesting experience...
(woops, ignore this message, it resulted in a double post due to my terrible internet LOL)

Aww dang, I loved this! Dig this quirky witch, and all the charm you worked into this little world. Friendly cactus included.
Really impressed by the visuals, music, and gameplay you managed solo in 48 hours! I tried the Compo once, and it just about destroyed me. I was the stone head on the right, who forgot the importance of sleep and self care, staring into the abyss and wondering where the days had gone.
This one knows what's up, though. I like the cut of their jib.

The exploration music was fun and driving, and had a bit of a Wild West feel. Fit the desert pretty well! Loved how bouncy and mysterious M's theme was too. I always struggle with making tunes during a Jam, even in a team setting, so I was really impressed! M's visual design is great too. And hey, if the letter counts as a conversation, this might be the first game I've played this jam that passes the Bechdel Test? Good stuff!
Trying to find constructive criticism that hasn't been given so far. I suppose I could say, the rate at which you get life back from fighting imps kinda negates the challenge of damage, a lot of the time. It might be nice if the game played up Health Management as a challenge... expecting the player to stay at middling health for stretches of the game, on the way to something to heal them. Alternatively, you could nix the steel boots, and create life-management challenges in the spike maze; deplete your health to cross sections of the maze, and reach safe islands where enemies/imps flew around, where you could recover your health. Something like that, to get some more mileage out of health as a currency!
Lastly, just gotta say... this might be my favorite moment all jam.

Witchy Capitalism. Harsh.
Anyway, thanks so much for your entry. I really had a good time with this. Definitely gonna follow your future projects!

Nice. What a recognizable sense of humor, very on point. Lots of little touches like the text scroll sound and even the 2-frame animation on M. I got both endings! :D
I immensely appreciated having text skip be mapped to a different button than text advance, every dev should do that from now on until the end of time...
