LD36 — Ancient Technology

Joey's Adventures by mato26 2016-08-31T21:31:00

Hey, cool entry there! The art and sounds go well all together. The fact that the light of the torch goes smaller and smaller as it burns down is great touch to the game!

Just one thing that could help to improve the game in my opinion, would be to change the movement of the character from wasd to the arrows keys, because at the moment you're like playing with only one hand, and I feel like with the arrow keys it would help to coordinate better the movements and interactions. :)

PrimalVoxels by MewSoul 2016-08-31T21:39:00

@mato26 Wow it's nice to hear that! ^^ I was planning to work a bit more on this game and I guess I'll take into account what you said about the weapons and power-ups! Actually I've been struggling a bit with the control of the characters with the ramps and thus it made it a bit like that ("floating"), but I'll work to improve that! :)

PrimalVoxels by MewSoul 2016-08-31T21:41:00

@Robert Thanks for the feedback! I like the idea of the destructable parts, I'll take that into account! And a bigger arena is definitely on my todo list :)

Dig Dig Revolution by LittleDoomDevs 2016-08-31T22:39:00

I have to say that this concept was well thought! Really pleasant to play and the music goes along nicely! :)

What I would suggest to improve it :
- to be able to see how the progression for the star rating goes at the time you're beating the level, because at the moment it is hard to guess if you're like starting from 0 stars and that you miss some things, or that you start at 3 stars but don't do good enough with the rythm and that you're loosing points
- and maybe a minimap like on the top left hand corner that could help to locate yourself and to know where you could go digging

AncientVenture by Findor 2016-08-31T21:22:00

Still a nice entry even with the few things missing! The idea is original and at least it challenges a bit!

One thing that could help, maybe you already thought about that, would be that clicking on the icon of the character would allow to control it, instead of clicking on the character itself. Actually that was the reflex I had first, and moreover at some point I got stucked with one of the character in the hole and I couldn't chose the other one that could do it because it was out of the field of view of the camera.

Oh and also, at a moment the first character died, I was left with the two others and I was controlling them at the same time, maybe that is a thing you would like to look into it. :)

Storm O.S. by kapricornmedia 2016-08-31T20:52:00

I have to say I'm impressed with your entry! The graphics are really nice, it feels so polished, the sounds fit well. All of the small details are cool, like recreating a terminal, creating a file to then compile it or even playing Pong, just wow!

Oscilloschaos by Casevse 2016-08-30T11:30:00

Interesting game! That's a nice way to go for the theme of this LD. The controls are nice which is pleasing for this kind of game.

Unfortunately at some moment, the game was crashing between some levels, don't know why :x

Pharaoh's Diamond by Lojchin 2016-08-30T11:50:00

Nice way to go for a Sokoban game! As lonesurvivor said sometimes they're more keys than needed, maybe just trying to fit what's necessary would be nice. :)

I also got the glitch where I've been stuck in the rock, it happened when I was pushing it and that it collides with a monster.

Lazer Patriarch by AODQ 2016-08-31T21:09:00

That is a nice game to play! Moreover the map is generated randomly so it's like another experience every time.

What you did with the fog on the map that gets lighter with the shots is a great job!

Just one thing that some other pointed out is the fact that playing over the time was getting laggy, so it ruined a bit the experience. :(

Old World Blues by Robert 2016-08-31T22:10:00

That's a nice start for a shooter! :) The controls are nice and the random loots and the inventory are some nice features!

Just one thing I would improve is the fact that the character could rotate as the mouse moves around, it would make it feel smoother. :)

Decimus Maximus by mihaivdev 2016-08-31T21:52:00

The idea original and it feels like there could be something nice to do there! :)

Actually to me it seems like the catapult ball was doing some damages, maybe that's the fact we don't really notice when the damages are done that made feel it doesn't do damages, so I guess some particles or animation would help for that.

And as you wanted it a multiplayer game, maybe you could have gone for a local multiplayer, even a 1v1 only is nice. That could be the kind of game to have several modes, like one that could be a bit like Rocket League, where you would have only catapults and have to shoot the projectiles at some precise places to get points.

Pyramid Builder by iMer 2016-08-30T07:05:00

Really nice game here! I like this building concept by dropping the elements one by one, easy to play (harder to master), and the previzualization window is a nice touch to understand better.

Ancient Invaders by Insality 2016-08-31T20:39:00

Pretty nice game here! I only tested solo but it felt like it would be fun in co-op!

The small details like the bugs running on the ground are a nice touch.

One improvement that would be cool would be to have to the controls with a controller, like left joystick to move and the right one to aim, and trigger to attack.

Pyrimos by Blobo 2016-08-30T21:45:00

Nice concept here! I like the graphics and ambiance, like when using the relic and that small aura or also the particles. With this relic it made me think about FEZ. Controls are quite easy, but I have to admit I had some hard times with the second level ahah
Actually a small bug happened, after using the relic, and dying in the lava, even after respawning several times I couldn't use it anymore.
But still it felt nice to play!

I want this gold by 2011petia 2016-08-31T22:19:00

That is a nice concept that goes well with the theme in my opinion! I appreciated playing it! The controls are easy and as levels goes by it becomes a bit harder to master and that was nice!
Oh and I did liked the music and the sound effects! :)

The House on the Right by WERT Studio 2016-08-30T21:55:00

The ambiance from this game made possible with the graphics combined with the music is really great, it felt a bit like Miami Hotline!

As some said, just the controls would need to be a bit less rigid, otherwise that's great!

The credits at the back of the house are a nice touch ahah

Heat Up! by PanicTheFirst 2016-08-30T21:02:00

First of all thanks for the feedback ^^
Nice game, I really like how you interpreted the theme, that's original!
Easy to control, the graphics are nice too, actually I was wondering what did you use for this low poly style?
Just two things I would point is the fact that we don't see very well the health of the ships (a bit covered by the sails), and also when the ships cross the finish line.
Good job for this entry! :)

LD38 — A Small World

The Burrow by Stending 2017-05-02T17:14:32Z

As you recommended, it's better to finish the game to understand how the theme has been introduced, and I've to say it has been done very nicely!

I really like the art you made, and it combines in a great way with the music to give an atmosphere really chill and pleasing.

Just a few things I noticed while playing, sometimes it is kinda difficult to make the difference between the areas you can go or not. While playing as the fish, going from the top to the bottow was a bit slow in my opinion, and I think having a display with the current number or orbs you collected would be nice :)

Overall that's a really nice entry!

Cosmic Chaos Crunch by MrTroy 2017-05-09T19:34:47Z

Interesting game, the intro is definitively a cool idea!

One thing that was a bit hard were the controls, because you're small and you go fast but you have to aim precisely to collect the stars. Another point that was a bit frustrating is that you can't really go down because you can't see where you are going and the risk to die is quite high.

And from what I read in the other comments, the controls with the arrow keys is nice because many games made for the LD support WASD, and for AZERTY keyboard that's nicer to have arrows at least ^^

Star Traveller by SecondDimension 2017-05-09T19:08:18Z

Really well polished game! It was enjoyable, the graphics and sound design fit nicely together.

The puzzles were a bit simple, but I guess if you go further with this game, they will be nice for the first "world".

To sum up, it was nice to play it! :) And props to Darwin for being a cat! :p

(Un)Happy by pcmaster 2017-05-15T06:33:18Z

That was an enjoyable experience!

Even though you didn't have much time, it was nice and well polished (like the sound effects, the animations, etc...)

I didn't know about BoscaCoeil, I guess I'll have a look it! Creating music and SFX is next on my list of skills to improve!

Anyway, good job on your entry! :)

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-09T19:23:04Z

At first sight it looks really great! The graphics and the sounds design go well together, it creates an atmosphere that fits nicely with the lore of the world.

But some others already pointed it out, it is pretty confusing to get into the game. I had quite hard times to move around trying to activate the towers. A bit more feedback when playing would be really appreciated, like end of a turn and so on. Another thing I noticed is that with some characters, when I was moving them, they could walk quite far and the tile was almost a bit out of the screen, thus I couldn't see clearly where I could go (mostly when going at the bottom of the map).

Still congrats for this game! :D

Cathode Way by garethiw 2017-05-15T12:19:47Z

Nice entry, props for making that in such short time!

I really like the vibe/ambiance it has! It reminded me a lot to The Witness, the puzzle you offer with this game is interesting.

Actually I had the same problem as @kate-kligman with the rock on my first try ahah And I thought the same thing as well for the jump.

To sum up, great game! :D

Llama's World by fancy89 2017-05-04T15:12:17Z

Cool interpretation of the theme, I really like the gameplay! :D

The colour palette is nice, and the voxel art style is great, like everything fit nicely all together. Nice point to have all this little animations too, the world feels alive, and also when the camera moves along with your cursor.

As some others already pointed it out, I think the direction in which the tiles move should be in the other direction (at the moment it feels contrary to nature), like the arrows stay as they are, and just moving the tiles the other way. Because for example the arrow at the bottom points to the up, and once you click, the tiles are moving down when you expected them to move up.

And I guess as well the bias should be adjust on the light to avoid the holes in the shadow of the apple ^^

Otherwise, really great concept, nice execution, I enjoyed playing it! :D

Supermarket Sneak by Rick 2017-05-03T11:38:18Z

Honestly, this game has been the funniest one I've rated yet!

The idea is really original, the conversations were really fun to read, overall it has been a great experience. The concept with the phone battery as a timer is pretty cool, nice to find some battery bonus as well, you feel the pressure of the time while trying to get everything and avoiding the conversations, that's a really nice mix! I'm a fan of the graphics (congrats to the artist(s)), and the sound effects deserve well the game!

And here is for the things that bugged me a little bit, or that I think can be improved:

- The field of view of the characters feel too big, I think something like 90 degrees would be more appropriate;

- I think the conversation should start after you spent a certain amount of time in the field of view of the character, because what sometimes happened is that the character is turning and I'm not yet in its field of view but the conversation has already been triggered (like it has been calculated before the graphics have been updated) and so it feels a bit unfair;

- I'd give a bit more time after ending a conversation before the characters can talk to you again, it happened to me I'd hit something invisible couldn't move and that a character comes and talk to me, or maybe fixing the colliders could help to resolve this problem (for example here: https://puu.sh/vE9MY/9ba512f801.mp4 , this video also illustrates the previous point);

- That would be nice as well if the locations of the items were randoms (like some areas defined, so that you still have some distance between every items), so that would be possible to replay the game without already having the solution;

- The only bug I noticed (in the first version, didn't try it in the post-compo version so maybe it has been fixed) is that when you end the game, and start it again, the game starts with how much battery you had when you finished the game.

For some more improvements if you wanna go further into the development of the game, maybe having some actions between each window of the conversation. For example, like you could listen quietly or trying to end up the conversation if you're really in a hurry, but this last action could have a big impact later in the game, for example if you happen to meet again the same character in another store if you're in another level, or even in the same store but moments later, the character would remember that and then it would be harder to quit the conversation, etc... Those kind of choices would be like in Life Is Strange for example, but that's just an idea like an other ^^

To sum up that was a really nice game, hope you don't take any of the points I wrote in a bad way, it's just because I liked the game I end up writing all that ^^

Cheers, keep it up!

Hop Up by PietPtr 2017-05-09T19:08:32Z

Pretty hardcore game once you go over 50/60sec ahah Actually the feeling you have when you start to go around is pretty nice! ^^

One thing that could be nice would be to have some zoom out when your ball go out of the screen, and maybe the flashing is bit too hardcore ahah

It's A Small World by danman9914 2017-05-13T15:22:43Z

I won't have much to say about this game, not as there was nothing but because it was too great!

I'm just amazed with what you've been able to pull off in such few time, it's so well polished from the intro screen to the end scene!

The graphics are gorgeous, the story is nice, the sound design goes perfectly with the game, it's full of so many details (like the arrow at the bottom of the conversation windows which moves depending where the character is, just crazy).

And thanks for playing and leaving a review for my game! <3

Hats off!

This Is Not Enough Planet! by madjackmcmad 2017-05-15T11:02:22Z

Really nice game, I enjoyed it!

I do like the art style, it's nicely polished, the online scoreboard is a great plus in my opinion (thanks for telling what you used for that, I'll have a look at it and might use it for the next one :) ).

If you wanna push this game a bit further, I think it could be nice to be able to customize your ship during the game, like you could spend the energy balls you collect into improving a weapon or the ship, and you'd have to decide to either spent them into improving your planet or your ship, I think that would be some interesting choices.

Congrats for doing that! :D

Throw by somethinboutgames 2017-05-02T17:31:51Z

Nice way of interpreting the theme!

It took me some time to get where I should click to throw the planet (at first I thought it could be done anywhere on the screen), but after that it all went pretty nicely!

The effect when the world reaches the goal is pretty cool, and how the camera follows the planet too :)

Pretty nice work on the level design and how new mechanics are introduced!

I guess the next step would be some animations on the player maybe ^^

Keep going like that!

Edge of the Abyss by piscythe 2017-05-03T11:02:53Z

Nice to see this kind of game part of a game jam!

Overall that's pretty pleasing to play for the players who like this kind of game :) There are enough units and buildings to bring a sufficient depth to the game and be able to enjoy it!

It's nice of you of adding some details about all the elements, maybe that could be something to integrate into the game, like a small window that appears in a corner when your mouse is over one of the buttons.

Great work! :)

Satellite Bash by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2017-05-13T15:57:43Z

Nice arcade game you got here!

Really pleasant art style, and that's great to find a game with things to unlock, that's perfect to wanna play again and do better, because actually it's kinda hard to control.

Great entry to me! :)

Island Boom (but it's cats so it's okay) by adrian0901 2017-05-09T19:08:46Z

Nice challenge for a game jam! :D

I played single player and it stayed quite fun! There has just been a single problem and it is that as soon as I spawned, I was in the water and died immediately ahah I think a small indication when the turn changes would be nice, because in multi player mode the change is seamless and you can't really know whose turn it is just by looking at the screen.

Tiny lil' Kingdom by Epicface92 2017-05-09T19:08:43Z

I think you have a nice idea here, like to manage a city within a small map, but you maybe aimed to start with a bit too much in your game. You could have started with fewer criterias (like only money/people/food) and simpler mechanics (for example bying a tile directly builds the building) and thus having a solid core gamemplay and having a bit more time to focus on explaining the player how to play/polishing everything and giving him a better experience.

Keep it up! :)

Small World Mining Company by paulhocker 2017-05-03T10:33:11Z

The basic idea of the game is pretty nice, and it fits well with the given theme! I liked the graphics, pretty simple but they get the job done! For the sound design, the pickup and drop effects sound good, I guess I would change the dig sound effect because as soon as you get the gameplay, it's pretty easy to start spamming this action and it ends up sounding not that good in my opinion.

As some others already pointed it out, it becomes quite quickly repetitive and the random IA makes it feel you're more like grinding to get it into a safe position so then you can bring back the loot to your spaceship. I think there could be something to do with the loot beeing at different depth, because the more you dig, the darker the tile gets. Having a sort of radar to get how far you are from the closest loot could be nice, a bit like in FF IX with the Chocobo's mini-game in the forest.

The Core by ectucker1 2017-05-14T16:37:55Z

That's a cool puzzle you've made here, and nice interpretation of the theme with the level selection! Props for doing that many levels, and moreover the difficulty was increasing which was nice!

I like the background music, I think it goes nicely with the game.

But there were some things that kinda killed it for me to play this game.

The first thing was that the cursor only appeared on the part where the tiles were available, and that we to click to pick up a tile and then click again to release it, I thought it was drag'n'drop at first.

Another thing was the reset of the level, it would have been nice to be able to made a new attempt without having all the tiles removed, and instead to be able to move the ones already on the map.

And also, to put some numbers on the levels when choosing one of them would help to evaluate the difficulty and to play the levels in the right order.

Having the possibility to go back to the main menu from a level would be nice too.

I don't know if this was part of the level design, but in some levels, not all of the tiles were necessary (ie: https://puu.sh/vPPf0/11bede41d2.png)

That was a nice experience! I ended up doing many of the levels, I was stuck on one of the final ones :p

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-02T19:20:44Z

Really great execution of the theme!

I've been pleased to play your game, I liked going from one planet to another, discovering them and trying to get everything!

I also liked how you put a name for each of the planet, it feels like there could be some lore and to develop a story with that!

There was just one thing that frustrated me a bit, that was sometimes when I died to an obstacle, and that I had go back to the point I died to try it again, but I guess that's also part of the gameplay, it made me come back at it :p

Oh and just sometimes trying to get close to a planet with the ship was a bit rough.

Overall that was really nice, congrats! :D

E.(a)T. by BrothersT 2017-05-02T18:53:25Z

Really great entry! :D

Totally in love with all the graphics, like the model of the characters, the space skybox, the plants etc... The small intro is well designed as well!

The controls feel great too, really responsive. The kicking mechanic feels nice, like you wanna shoot the enemies even more, and the feelings is also made even better with the sound effects.

And moreover the online leaderboard is a really great plus!

One thing I guess I would add, to have some more "game feel", it would be some particles when you kick an enemy or eat a fruit or even when a meteor collides with the planet. And I think you could easily go even further with this game by adding new planets with like new eco-systems and so on.. ^^

Amazing work guys! :D

Gate Breaker by GrassWhopper 2017-05-09T19:43:49Z

Simple little game but it gets the job done! :D

I think it was a bit unbalanced, like too many enemies, too much life or maybe the enemies damaging not enough, in the end there was not too much challenge, I could focus only on the bugs having the password without taking care too much of the other ones and still completing the games.

And some more feedback when shooting or an enemy dying (screenshake for example <3) would be nice, but still the particles when hitting an enemy were cool! For this kind of things there is a talk made by JW (half of Vlambeer) that is really great, here is link if you feel like watching it :) https://youtu.be/AJdEqssNZ-U

The Whole truth about Nature Selection (16+) by pascalman 2017-05-14T15:27:01Z

Wow, quite surprised to find this interpretation of the theme, that was kinda funny! The eyebrow animation on some of them was spot on ahah

One little trouble I has playing the game, was that I have an azerty keyboard, thus I had quite a hard time to move around.

As some others said it, it felt repetive quite fast. Maybe you could made the levels shorter, so the players could have the feeling to progress a bit more than it is now.

Mini Planets by Willbl3pic 2017-05-09T19:08:28Z

The concept is interesting, but as many others already said, the controls and the camera made the game a bit too difficult to understand and play.

I think if you put the camera a bit further from the camera and higher (a bit like in Super Mario Galaxy), that would help the player to get more easily into the game. :)

SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-04T06:19:30Z

Thansk everyone for the feedback, greatly appreciated! :D

@tdennist Ahah Glad to hear that! :) Yeah actually I did the hit detection quite quickly and it's a bit strict to detect enemies, you have to face them directly and be quite close to them.

@gcoope Oh yep nice idea! I started doing the animations but I had some problem making them work properly so I just stopped and went working on another part of the game.

@willbl3pic Thanks for the feedback <3 Yep sorry for the hit detection, it's been done quite quickly and it's kinda strict to make it work :x

@huynq Yep you're right, I had this feeling too, I missed some time to make the game feel more fair and more seemless in the way of moving/slapping, I'll try to focus a bit more on that for my next game jam! :)

@brotherst Ahah I had this exact same thought when I played your game! :) Right, sorry for those two problems, the hit detection is pretty rough to get it right (you have to face directly the enemy and be quite close to him, actually how did you do it in your game? I would be pretty interested to know how you get it to make it work so nicely!), and for what is being in the air it's because I had some trouble of setting the physics nicely and not breaking how the icefield behaves. Thanks for playing and leaving a feedback, much appreciated too! <3

@Veralos Yes sorry for that, actually you need to be quite close to the enemy penguin and face it completely so that it gets detected.

@OccultOne Sorry for this bug, I noticed that at the end and had some hard time to fix it and not break how the icefield behaves, I tried to reduce it the most I could to be able to work on some other parts which were needed.

Even if I didn't mention your nickname here, I read all your feedback and I'm happy to see that you liked it, thanks everyone! <3 I'll stop by to play all your games quite soon :)

SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-13T14:38:01Z

Thanks again to all of you for the feedback! :)

@smiling-cat-entertainment Thanks for the comment! Oh no, nothing happens with those two actually, at first I thought about animating them but it turned out I didn't have enough time. Sorry for that issue, some physics stuff I couldn't resolve properly :x

@kataware Wow, really thanks a lot for that feedback, it doesn't feel rushed at all, it feels more like the opposite and you took time for it, thanks again!

I'm going now to review the games of all of you that I didn't review yet! :)

SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-16T11:39:22Z

Thanks to all of you for the feedbacks!

@takusan Wow, thank you so much for the great feedback (and I've seen how many great feedbacks you gave to others too which is amazing, I'm impressed to be honest, so thanks for all of them too, you're awesome man!). Actually you score a nice point with the slippery floor, this has been one of the first thing I tried to do but I couldn't do what I really wanted and it started to take me too much time. I didn't think about the wet slap sound, that's a great point too! Thanks again, cheers! :)

Little Eco Planet by Wheerd 2017-05-02T18:08:33Z

First, congrats to fit the nice tutorial that you did, with that we can understand the basic mechanics of the game really easily.

As some said, maybe splitting it to get some tutorial levels everytime you wanna introduce a new animal would be nice, but what you did with the small window at the bottom of the screen to remember the details for each animal is great!

Really smart way to exploit the theme, graphics are nice too, maybe some music would be welcome ^^

I just got stuck at the end of the level 10, can't manage to get the monkey the food he needs ahah

Great work ! :D

To Valhalla by gcoope 2017-05-09T19:08:22Z

Very original entry, I like that! :D

I've been nicely suprised with the voice to hear about the story, and with the details you provided, like the names next to the islands.

There have been 2 things that killed it a bit to me. The first thing was the replay that restarted completely, restarting ingame would have been nice. And the second thing was about the controls of the boat, I've been quite surprised that turning left or right was also moving the boat forward.

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-13T15:47:51Z

First of all congrats for that, you managed to finish your game and deliver a full story which is great!

As you said it, it feels a bit rushed, but if you take the take the time to work again on some parts you could make a great game in the genre, like more about the mechanics/gameplay, because the art and sound design are great!

The combat thing is little bit of the genre I think, but I guess that's a personnal feeling, maybe reworked or better introduced into the gameplay it could turn great! The second cutscene felt a bit too fast in my opinion. And just another thing, having a small transition between two songs would be nice!

But actually the best part is the music. To be honest at first I thought it came from an anime, tryed to Shazam it but no results, and then I understood you did it, and I'm just like wow. I saw on your post-mortem you recommend to listen to Tranquil (which is great), but there is one I really love, and that's Flagship, I've been listening to it several times until now on your bandcamp.

Honestly, I do believe for your next Ludum Dare you should try a game based on music, or maybe you can keep with visual novel or Life Is Strange style and some emphasis on the music (it deserves to be heard!).

Nice work again!

And thanks again for the amazing feedback you left me! :)

Johi Farm by AVAVT 2017-05-09T19:08:39Z

That is an original entry! Props for this game! :)

It was a nice idea to manage the water and to fight the bugs at the same time. As some others already said it, I think improving the controls, like to hit the enemies would improve the experience, but at least it does the job for this game. ^^

And the animations, like when an enemy dies or when digging, are a nice plus!

Congrats for your first LD :)

Naziverse by furazin 2017-05-09T19:08:24Z

Fun idea you had!

But I think there are a few simple changes you could do to make it a better experience. For example, moving a bit faster, and having a bit more time after you die (to see that you have been hit properly and to make the restart a little bit less rough).

And actually when I entered the house with the small world, I didn't understand at first I had to wait in front of it, and thus I went through the room several times before understanding it. ^^

Slightly Angry Max by Takusan 2017-05-16T12:13:05Z

Damn that's a great entry! Moreover for your first entry here, that's even better, congrats!

The intro is a great plus! That reminds me of the talk "The Art of Screenshake" of JW, when he talks about adding some meaning to the game, and that's what you do with this intro, so it's like you're more into the game, and moreover your intro is funny!

What you did is well polished and complete, so I won't have too much to add about it, but I have few points in mind that you maybe would like to consider to improve it (or for future games).

- The first feeling I had was that the character moved a bit too slowly, that kinda frustrates me a bit ahah

- Another thing is that when you're playing the game, as a player you don't really focus on the UI, and the overheated bar stays the same color if it's almost empty or full, and so you don't notice you're getting too much overheat, you only notice it when you're already overheated and can't shoot anymore. So I guess having this bar flashing when you're getting too much overheat, or maybe changing the color, the players will notice it more easily.

- Another feeling is about the sound of the pistol, I would give it a deeper sound when it shoots, so that you've the feeling it's powerful and that you're being badass shooting with it.

- One of the point of the talk I wrote about previously is the screenshake, and I felt I was missing it in this game. Maybe you could add some when firing, or when killing an enemy, you'd have the feeling it's a bit more "alive".

- One thing I didn't really get was how the weapon was improved, I think it was like cycle of 3 different fire rates but not sure at all. It was kinda weird that after improving it, it came back to normal after some time. Maybe adding a bar which gets empty with the time could help to understand the improvement is not definitive (or a least if is like that currently in the game, but that's what I understood, sorry if I assume wrong :x ).

- And as you do a scoreboard, I discover one thing by checking out games during this Ludum Dare, that is Dreamlo.com . It helps to create easily online scoreboard, and there is an implementation of it available on the asset store (I didn't check it yet), and I was thinking of maybe using it for my next Ludum Dare, so maybe you'd be interesting in it! ^^

Anyway, great game you've made, congrats!

Cheers!

The Deific's Guide to Creating, Exploiting, and Destroying Pocket Worlds by Smiling Cat Entertainment 2017-05-13T15:01:41Z

That's definitely an interesting experience!

At first when I looked at the screenshots and then started to play it felt a bit complicated. But after spending some time in game, I understood better what needed to be done.

I really do like when you create the world that the appearance of it is a mix of what you collected, props for that!

As some others already pointed it, the pace felt a bit slow. I don't know if it's because the movement are a bit slow, or if the map is too big, or the collecting time kinda quick, but I guess there is something around that could be change to provide a better a felling.

Something that would be nice, would be the ability to cycle between the different worlds you created to check faster what you are producing at the moment, or maybe a scoreboard displaying those kind of information.

In the end, I think you came up with a nice idea!

KeyPuppers by AntaresValdemar 2017-05-02T19:05:53Z

Original interpretation of the theme! ^^

It's really cute to play, like with the puppers, the sound they make and with the music, the whole lot fit nicely together.

At first I had a look at the tutorial, and I felt a bit overwhelmed by it, like there was a lot to do, but once I started the game it went nicely.

As some others already pointed it out, holding down the shift key could be avoided because in the end you're holding it most part of the time, or if you want the player to hold it, there should be a reason of not holding it too.

Another point I noticed, is that I never quite get the kind of bonus the puppies were giving me once they reached the other side, like I was too focus on saving the other ones from falling.

And also it was kinda hard to notice when the keys on the left part of the keyboard were broken, because they were dissapearing behind the ones of the middle of the keyboard.

But overall it was pretty fun to try it out! Congrats on your first entry :)

Rock Hammer by Airman4 2017-05-14T13:09:13Z

Congrats on your first game! :D

That's a nice little arcade game which fits well for mobiles!

As some others already pointed it out, it's lacking a bit of gameplay to keep the player interested enough to play again many times.

A bit more UI would have been nice, like for example where you're going to hit when you launch your hammer, and as well having some feedback when you can throw again your hammer.

As it seems it is your first game, I allow myself to give you some links to talks which could help you to improve your games, they're really good ones!

- Talk from Rami Ismail with advices for game jams: https://youtu.be/6sqcFNjE2Gw - “Juice it or lose it” by Martin Jonasson & Petri Purho: https://youtu.be/Fy0aCDmgnxg - “The Art of Screenshake” by Jan Willem Nijman: https://youtu.be/AJdEqssNZ-U

Good job again! :)

Techium Eclipse by Kenney 2017-05-03T11:48:26Z

It looks really amazing, totally in love with the graphics.

The concept as well is nice thought, it's catching and you wanna go for more and more. The game feel is great.

One thing I would do to improve it a little bit, that would be to have the impact circles to grow more and more as soon as the meteors get close to the planet.

Overall it was really pleasing to play it!

Techium Eclipse by Kenney 2017-05-03T11:48:27Z

EDIT: Double post, sorry for that :x

The Curious Adventures of Ant, the Inebriated Ant by tdennist 2017-05-02T17:49:04Z

Pretty surprising (in a nice) way of getting the theme done!

The concept is fun at the core, and with the ragdoll ant it goes nicely ^^

As someone pointed it before, I also had a problem to pass the first level with the lilypads, like trying to go all the way to right to end up going over the border and falling into the void. So I guess like doing some level design to make it impossible to go somewhere the player shouldn't go would be nice :)

I also felt it missed few sound effects, like one where you complete a level, etc...

In the end, that's a really original entry! :D

Tiny Buckler by feltip 2017-05-16T13:03:57Z

That was pretty interesting to play!

I liked the concept of the shield-boomerang, but it was kinda hard to use. Maybe if the throw was a bit shorter in distance and time, it could be better. :)

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Maurim: Unepic thief by bakudas 2017-12-09T21:27:55Z

Really nice, art looks definitely great, and the use of the theme is pretty good! I guess it has already been said but the AI can walk through the walls and some sprites go over the player, otherwise it's all good! Just a bit more polish could be done, like having the sprite of the player flashing to white when you're hit for a visual feedback, and maybe a meter to show how much you have in your bag to judge a bit better how much you should take. :) Congrats for this entry!

Bearhalla by madjackmcmad 2017-12-09T18:56:45Z

Fun entry, I liked it! I went for a full run and ended with 50k+ points :D All the different bonus were nice, the way you handle how the player takes damage is good. In my opinion, it felt some screenshake was missing when firing for example, and a bit of vibrations for controllers would have make it feel even better :) By the way, I think you should put a link to this page on your itch.io page, I found you there and it was a bit difficult to find you ;)

Bearhalla by madjackmcmad 2017-12-09T20:00:52Z

@madjackmcmad Oh you're right about the button, my bad, actually I didn't notice it because the banner is the same color as the main one :x

Shoot off their lumps by pixeye 2017-12-09T18:01:26Z

Nice entry! :D Love the graphics and all the effects, like the appearance it has of an old screen, pretty neat! And I like the shooting mechanic as well! Too bad there wasn't too much of the theme in the gameplay, but the idea you described about the virus seems pretty nice, could have been cool to see a bit of it with a bit more of the story too ;) Just one thing I thought that was missing, was the lack of the feedback for the player when either the magazine of the weapon was empty or when the player was hit (a bit of screenshake and VFX for that would have been nice) :) Congrats on the entry! :)

BetArena by BathPirate 2017-12-10T09:09:47Z

Really nice idea you had here! Great execution as well! I like as well how you interact just by moving on the correct cubes, like no UI involved. Just one thing I noticed, is that the particle effects/bloom when you move in the starting zone is a bit too much. Great entry! :D

Famous Knight by Lucas Ferrantelli 2017-12-09T17:46:13Z

Really great entry! I really liked it, loved the art, super interpretation of the theme, the sound effects fit nicely too. I especially liked the mechanic of the autograph, well thought! ;) Maybe one thing that could have been nice, is the possibility to see when you can unlock a specific dungeon. Congrats! :)

Hebe the ScOre Hunter by jamioflan 2017-12-10T09:38:42Z

Pretty good execution! The mood feels good too. :) It was nice to go around, trying to get the ores you need, but at some point it got a bit frustrating when too many robots chased you, and quite fast as well to the point that when they came from the bottom part of the screen and that you go down, it doesn't give you enough time to react and they steal you almost instantly.

Reaper Boy LD40 Edition by jessefreeman 2017-12-09T18:44:55Z

Great entry! I wish I could play more of it! :D Really fun mechanic to play with, nice to have a boss level as well. Don't know what to say much more but good job! :)

SUPER COP HERO by Finlal 2017-12-09T21:51:32Z

Really great entry, super well polished. The one hit death is a bit harsh imo, but I guess that's part of the game :D Congrats for this game! :)

Maximum Borkdrive by PixlWalkr 2017-12-09T21:38:03Z

Really cute art style and original use of the theme! Just one thing about the controls, it was a bit weird for me that the look of the dog was depending on the mouse instead of the walking direction, and having a target to represent the destination of the dash could have been nice too :) Cool entry!

Drift Punk by CremaGames 2017-12-09T20:42:38Z

Awesome entry! Love the interpretation of the theme, the graphics, the environment, and how polished it is, really great!

Crunchtime, the revenge of feature creep: mo' monay mo' problems. by soldierbear 2017-12-09T18:27:12Z

Fun entry there! Slapping to get the bad ideas out was nice, but not really sure how that fit the theme actually. One thing that would have been a nice is a more readable font, moreover with that much text from the beginning, it makes it a bit hardcore. Otherwise that was cool a little experience. :)

Piña by MewSoul 2017-12-11T19:39:49Z

Thanks to all of you for your comments and feedback, greatly appreciated! :D I'll try to find the time to come play your game and leave a feedback/ratings for those I haven't already!

@adhesion Thanks for your comment! You're totally right about the level design! We came up too late with it, at first I was aiming to have it done by the day of the first day but I totally underestimated the amount of work it is to be a solo dev with 3 artists in a game jam ahaha And same for controller support in the menus, it was on my list but lacked some time :x

@clemzd Oh right, I didn't thought it could lead to this misunderstanding, I guess we were so into the game that we didn't notice it. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

@aviland Thanks for your feedback! For the scoreboard I used dreamlo, I highly recommend it for jams/personnal projects! It's free super easy to use, and if you're using Unity there's a free plugin on the Asset Store and in like 5 minutes you got a scoreboard your game! :)

@madjackmcmad That's exactly the same thing I thought when I test for the first time the controls I just coded ahaha Oh damn I forgot to change a value, it should have been Top 10.. :/ So for the scoreboard I used dreamlo, super simple to use and if you're using Unity there's a free plugin on the asset store which make it even easier to use! :)

WAVEFORM by pogo 2017-12-09T19:31:22Z

Nice entry! It looks really good, nice art style there! :D Loved the trails when the blocks follow you, that feels great! The ground looks cool as well, but it feels a bit too much after some time, like you get dizzy ahah A bit more feedback when you hit/get hit and destroy an enemy would have make it feel even better (like a bit of screenshake). :D And actually I didn't really get what was the use of the bars in the top right hand corner :x But still, great entry, congrats! :)

DOMICO by KingofWhaWha 2017-12-09T18:14:45Z

Pretty good entry, nice interpretation of the theme! I had fun going around in the house and getting some food, and pretty cute character! :D I just happened to get caught a bit too much by the two IAs, at some point as soon as I was caught and tried to escape, I got caught again, which was a bit annoying :x And actually I thought that the game didn't really need these AIs to be fun. Without the AI, to make the player lose at some point I think just some adjustment of the food to spawn and the way to go bigger/smaller would have been enough. Comparing the time of other players would have been nice too, if you want to do so for your next jam, I recommend you to have a look at dreamlo. :)

Hyper diapers by Gaziter 2017-12-09T19:20:53Z

Great entry! Super use of the theme, really well polished, love the graphics, everything fits well all together! It's nice to be able to pickup so many props as well, and throwing stuff around feels great! Nice to see as well many different skins for the babies! Congrats :D

Flavo Submarine - Ashes to Ashes by Thirrash 2017-12-09T17:35:01Z

It was pretty nice moving around and playing with the chains, pretty interesting way of interpreting the theme as well! Although it was kinda hard to pick up the carts, and after 4-5 times I used the chains, I could not throw them anymore. As mess pointed it out, the texts were a bit too much, sometimes an icon is enough to understand what the UI stands for, like for the life or the fuel for example. :)

Surviving Christmas by JohnnyO 2017-12-09T20:35:12Z

Congrats for your first LD and completing it! The idea suits the theme and pretty well implemented :) One thing that could be improved is the movement of the cameras when the player moves too much out of the camera field, it was a bit too shaky. I took a look at your code, as you move your ball with physics, you should just handle the input in Update() and apply the physics in FixedUpdate(), and as for your camera you should move what you have in Update() to LateUpdate() so you're sure to have the correct position of the player when it is called. :)

Scavenger by Stefan Richings 2017-12-09T17:18:33Z

Congrats on finishing your game for your first LD! The mood is definitely there, pretty nice set up, and nice thought on lowering the light level depending on how many cores you get. One thing that could be nice I think is to have the enemies lay down on the side when they're dead for example. I was pretty confused at first when I saw them standing idle at first, and/or despawning them a bit faster too :) One other thing, if you stand still on a slope you will glide, I guess it's because you used a rigidbody for the player, you can avoid that easily with a CharacterController if you don't need to play too much with the physics for your character, maybe that'll help for your next jam ;)

Iglu by JMarques 2017-12-10T09:22:22Z

Cool entry! :) Controls were nice and I liked the art style/environment. As you noted, it's a bit difficult but still manageable!

Snake Force by JeffChen 2017-12-09T19:06:17Z

Awesome entry! Graphically splendid, really well polished, really nice usage of the camera system moreover with the slowmo on death/failure. And even if the environment is made of blocks with a single color it works out so well! With the appropriate sounds it will get even better! :D

Super Trader 64 by WildGamut 2017-12-09T19:53:12Z

Really surprising (in the good way) entry! By that I mean I really like it! :) Great use of the theme, and well polished game! I like the way you move the camera, and the graphics, it suits well what you were aiming for! The only "downside" is that it takes a bit long to get to the end, I think having a bit less a veggies/fruits would help :) And congrats for handling the exchanges so you don't get stuck and can't exchange anymore! Good luck for Reynald's Expedition! :)

Lore Finder by Eniko 2017-12-09T21:08:35Z

Pretty nice entry! It was fun to go around, finding your way through with each ability you unlock, doing a bit of backtrack and so on! Interesting adaptation of the theme as well :)

POKED - be social by Faktori 2017-12-09T20:52:52Z

Awesome entry! Really fun to play, that's great you could have put that much content! The cactus is the best :p

Bucketneers by And Garciaz 2017-12-09T21:56:53Z

Pretty good game! :D It's nice to see some local multiplayer game too! Love the graphics and the use of the theme! Super nice as well to have this intro screen to explain the game :) The sound effects set a nice mood too, it fits good all together! I can see a more complete game out of that, with like some events happening ingame, some other gamemodes etc.. :D

Interview at Cacophony by Christoph 2017-12-09T21:45:24Z

Super interesting entry! It was a bit too hard to me but still was quite fun ahah It's pretty nice thought to keep the correct instruments selected! I think being able to select instruments when the song is still playing could be nice too :)
