It's a funny concept. The gameplay ends very soon but you can develope more gameplay around this concept.
Good job.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD38 → Rock Hammer

The game could use a better indicator about where your plasma ball(?) is going to hit. I like the little viking dude though.
sceen.PNG One other minor gripe is the wasted screen space. Just look at all that blue space begging to be turned into a cave .
• Simple game with a interisting gameplay that should be polished and worked on, the game is repetitive and replayability is really low;
• Graphics are cute and attractive;
• No music and SFX;
• In my opinion if you work on this topics, you can finish this game to a mobile level, very addictive and so on.
I would like to see some music for this game, as well as a real mobile version and maybe the possibility to speed the viking up once every coming rock or something (because sometimes I got screwed when the only possible way to get it right was to press space right at the beginning). Oh and also maybe a highscore which just adds a nice touch to the addiction.
Anyway, thanks for the nice little game, I certainly enjoyed my time with it!
I like the viking animation, but it's a bit to punishing at the moment. There were a few times when I would miss the target, and could do nothing about it because the viking wouldn't position himself again in time. Sound and music would be a nice touch too. Nice simple game though, easy to understand and play!
Cute game :) use this music while playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWz0qVvBZ0
Solid game, wish there was some audio. Lovin the character, nice work!
@ethereal-psyche-games Thank you so much! the idea its make it more difficult increasing the speed of the platforms. We are so happy that you liked the game.
@mathijs750 Thanks for your coment!yeah you are right, we need a better indicator, we are working on that thinks. The game is for mobile, but for de ludum we make it for pc, so the blue space its only in pc :S We are happy you liked our little drawf viking ^^
@pedro-henrique-cesar Thanks so much for all your tips. We need to increase the difficulty and add SFX and music, we have so much work to do yet xP We are so happy that you like the game and the graphics ^^
@diknows We need to put SFX and music yet. Thanks so much for that idea! we like it! we need to balance that aspect of the game. And of course we will put a high score ^^. Thanks you so much for your tips. We are so happy that you enjoyed the game.
@this-gooch Its true! we need to adjust the times of the animations and put SFX and sound, we have so much work to do yet xP Thanks so much! We are so happy that you liked the game.
@tmw hahaha you just read our minds! We listened that song while we made the game and it was awesome, but we cant put it because the song have copyright :S
Thanks for your coment! We are so happy that you liked the game ^^
@crazi456 Thanks so much! Yeah we need to put th SFX and de music.
We are so happy that you liked the character and the game ^^
Cool game, I liked the style and graphics, though I found it a bit hard to hit the target at times.
love this game
@noddingtortoise Thanks so much for your review! we will try to improve it ^^ We are so happy that yo like the game! :D
@virginia Thanks you so much!! <3 <3
Nice concept. Should have more mechanics tho, it becomes repetitive too quickly.
Nice game idea and good take on the theme  If you develop it further, I think something like a health bar on the target platform would be nice.
@mikea Thanks so much! We are working on make it less repetitive ^^
@arcticmattekar Thanks so much for your coment and your ideas! ^^ We are so happy that you like the game!
Simple but fun and interesting idea! I really liked the character's animations, they seemed really nice and fluid to me, even though the art style of him and the rest of the environment were kinda different. But with a bit more polish and maybe one or two gameplay elements on top it could be a really great and addictive game!
@harry-alissavakis Thanks so much for your coment! We are so happy that you like it ^^
Yeah i know, i spend a lot of time in make the animation and the character and then i couldnt made a good background :S but i will change it and make it better ^^
Nice game, really fun! In my opinion it can be improved by gradually increasing the difficulty through the levels, otherwise (as @mikea said) it risks to become repetitive.
Very funny, I managed a score of 35.
Pretty frustrating when you miss your shot and you know you won't have enough time to come back to shot again, because you'll end up crushed :(
I like the viking, but the game ran really poorly for some reason (windows 7 64, core i7 6700, gtx 1060)
Pretty interesting game. Some power-ups maybe would have been nice though, like maybe to speed your guy up or slow him down. Also some sound in general.
Great concept. Character art was fantastic. Was fun to play but I got frustrated when I knew my character would never make it in time so I was just waiting to die. I would have liked to have been able to use right and left side of screens for move left / right. Then tap for throw (or swipe up).
Highest Score 8 It's a fun game and I really enjoy it! I think with some polishing it can get a really nice game and maybe you upload it to a platform! Maybe you also check out my entry.
Great first game guys, keep pushing yourself and you could go far!
ps. wouldnt mind a little more control over my character, maybe the ability to swtich directions once per platform? Just a thought as i find i might not be abe to take a shot before being killed.
Solid game, but you have to give more room for error. Either make those walls come down slower or make the hitbox bigger. Nice viking though!
Right now it's very limited but it can be a fun game with more development and polish.
Really great concept, I'm a huge fan of one button games! I feel like the design elegant, and the game just needs some more polish. If this is your first game as you say in the description, you should be really proud!
I like your cartoony art as I usually aim for that kind of style too (like *Viking Squad* :video_game:). Making a game for jam is not easy so I understand the limited scope. As I always do, here follow some suggestions I think could improve your game:
+ :pushpin: Too simple (even for casual players) + :bulb: Add some enemy behavior variations + :bulb: Add some player behavior variations + Look for some power-up inspiration from *Arkanoid* :video_game:, *Touhou Project* :video_game: and other 2D shooting games + :pushpin: Player has only one chance (or two) to land hammer correctly, and he/she can't do anything about it + :bulb: Allow player to increase walking speed by spending a gauge that auto-fills with time + :pushpin: No replayability (game is always the same) + :bulb: Increase level of difficulty with time (speed increase for instance, game becomes faster and faster). But remember: higher risk, higher reward. + :bulb: Add other changes based on match duration or score, like new enemies, new patterns.
:warning: What I said above is just a bunch of suggestions. Its just the way I approach the games I create, maybe it helps you, maybe not.
:star: A nice point of your game is being mobile (and casual) friendly as it requires only a single input (tap). This is the kind of constraint its super hard to handle for mobile stuff, but also has a high market value for that public.
Actually I don't think the core design should be changed. I think it probably works this way if you just add a bunch of new mechanics. It should work.
A bit too simple in its current state. Adding other things to hit could make it more interesting. For instance hitting falling coins to increase the score. Or add objects you are not allowed to hit. The graphics are quite nice IMO.
@elettroale thx so much for your coment! We are working on that point for make it more interesting ^^
@feips Thanks so much! We are so happy that you like it :3
@sokette yeah we know :( we are working on that to fix that problem. That build its only for the ludum, the real build its for movile, sorry if that build not work well :S Thanks so much for your coment ^^
@anim-ace We are inserting sound and working in some powerups to make it more fun ^^ Thanks so much for your coment!
@mooncalf Thanks so much for your tips ^^ we know that will be frustrating and we are working for for fix that :3 Thanks for your coment and we are so happy that you like the game!
The idea is simple enough and after a swift death in my first attempt I quickly worked out what the aim was. I kind of feel that either the player should be given the ability to control the character or the hitbox for the target should be slightly more forgiving, given that you need to be really precise with your aim and you realistically only get 2 chances before you're squished. Though you do have a solid foundation to build upon if you wanted to expand the game.
Love the character, its a shame that he is so tiny and you spend the whole time with your eyes focused on the cracks in the rock rather than the little dwarf. The rest of the graphics could use some polish. Compared to the character and the attack the environment seemed kinda bland. Gameplay was simple and easy to pick up, but it was honestly too simple, it quickly became repetitive. Good start, but it needs more.
I could see myself playing this on mobile for an embarassing amount of time when waiting at the dentist or :poop:
Simple and addictive, not much else to say really. Would recommend maybe playing around with making the collision a bit more forgiving while still maintaining the game's difficulty.
simple game but it works for me was hard I do only 8 points gj
There could be definitely built more around this concept which could result in quite an addictive game but for now, I would speed up the dwarf, because sometimes I wasn't able to get on point in time. Love the dwarf though it reminds me song Diggy Diggy Hole by Yogscast I believe.
The game is rather challenging and addictive. I tried my best, but I could only get 3 points :D
This was a neat little game, if you get into the groove you can really rack up points. I liked the art too, nice job!
a nice small game, but it is so hard. And it lack of music
@acuadoystudios Thx so muchs for your comment and your tips. We check your entry and its nice ^^
We are so happy that you like the game :)
@brothers-arcade Thx so much ^^ We are keep working to make it better We are so happy that you like it :3
@wujood @rpmoura @pstudio
Thanks so much for your comments and your tips ^^ We are keep working!
@josh-riley Thanks so much for your comment! That thinks make us want to keep working ^^ We are proud but we know we can make it better :3
@meronsoda Thanks so much for your comment! You spend a lot of time to grite this and that thinks help a lot to improve the game ^^
We are so happy that you like the game!
Good job! I like the art style. The lack of audio is sorely missed! It's a simple gameplay concept but it works. It's fairly unforgiving when you miss a shot, sometimes you just can't get off a second. Nice touch with the screen shake!
Very cute! Excellent entry!
I don't know i anyone else mentioned, but hitting the spcebar to quick re-play or having a 3,2,1 timer then auto restarting would have kept me from aving to switch between mouse and keyboard. Also, I feel with more time to polish you'd have a nice mobile clicker.
Anyways, nice work!
Nice idea, I could see this being an addicting mobile game! I wish there was some music though.
Good job :)
Very unforgiving, but good for a mobile game
Congrats on your first game! :D
That's a nice little arcade game which fits well for mobiles!
As some others already pointed it out, it's lacking a bit of gameplay to keep the player interested enough to play again many times.
A bit more UI would have been nice, like for example where you're going to hit when you launch your hammer, and as well having some feedback when you can throw again your hammer.
As it seems it is your first game, I allow myself to give you some links to talks which could help you to improve your games, they're really good ones!
- Talk from Rami Ismail with advices for game jams: https://youtu.be/6sqcFNjE2Gw - “Juice it or lose it” by Martin Jonasson & Petri Purho: https://youtu.be/Fy0aCDmgnxg - “The Art of Screenshake” by Jan Willem Nijman: https://youtu.be/AJdEqssNZ-U
Good job again! :)
Congratulations on your first game! The artwork was definitely the standout in this entry for me.
Some criticisms: - due to the timing of the blocks that fall, the player is lucky if they get more than one shot at hitting them, making the game pretty stressful from block one. It would be better to be more forgiving at the start, and ramp up to more challenging speeds after the player has a feel for the mechanics. - there was an exit button on the loss screen, but it didn't seem to do anything - as others have mentioned, it's lacking the level of depth + polish needed to keep people playing more than a couple rounds
Having said that, it's a nice start, especially for a first attempt!
I can agree that this concept would work really great for mobile, so it's nice to see that the game is also built for that. The art is fine; the colours look nice, but something about the main character looks a bit out of place in comparison to the background. It's not super noticeable though, especially when the character is moving constantly. I love the logo you have for the game page though.
Honestly I don't think I can say anything that wouldn't have already been said in the comments, as this is a relatively straightforward game. You have the tools for this basic concept, and I really think it could work as a fun arcade mobile game with more content added to it (plus sounds and music). The one thing I did find myself wishing when playing this jam version is that there was a button for restarting the game, like pressing the spacebar, instead of having to click on the Retry button. Also I was able to pause the game on a game over, but it only brings up the pause screen, and this goes away once I hit "Retry". Finally, maybe you could consider varied widths of target areas, which also would change up difficulty.
All in all, good fundamentals, and if you continue to work on this, I can only see additional content benefitting the game.
Nice and addicting game, I enjoyed playing it. Good job! :)
My biggest complaint is the lack of sound - otherwise this is a well polished, fully playable entry. It's a simple idea but it's challenging and well-defined. I knew what I was meant to do after my first play through and then I just had to beat my high score. I can imagine this is very effective on mobile. As I said at the outset - it's just such a shame that there is no audio - it would have added to the atmosphere - (I'm a great believer in the importance of sound and music).
Nice work!
Honestly this is a great little game, the mechanic works brilliantly for mobile and I think with some audio and some polish you'd have an addictive game on your hands. My only suggestion would be an option to have slightly faster gameplay, which would really ramp up the tension. Great entry!
This should be an interesting game for mobile, it probably won't work for desktop. Needs sfx and a little bit more polish on the graphics, and you could release it on mobile.
Wow - I am impressed that this was your first game! The graphics are awesome and honestly I have seen less-polished graphics in mobile games. Keep it up, can't wait to see what you come up with for your next game.
Would love to see sfx and/or music for your next one as well!
