Great work, I love the concept. It reminds me of my days back at music college! The audio was great quality, and this isn't a style of game I've really seen before. A great take on the theme.

notexplosive 2017-12-04 20:36

I loved this, it got super hard when I had to pick five instruments. I guess my ear is not well trained!

bocodillo 2017-12-04 20:54

Really fun game with a great concept. It's funny and gets quite challenging as more instruments are added in. The game looks nice too. Good job!

sgadrat 2017-12-04 20:55

Haha, thank you for reminding that I am terrible at music. I succedd the three instruments by luck and never succeed the four instruments :) But I loved to mix sounds to see if that worked, it was fun!

parttimeindie 2017-12-04 21:40

Thanks to all of you for the kind words and thanks to my two team mates for creating t his game :)

gus-the-shark 2017-12-05 00:00

Really funny game. I especially enjoy the disapproving noises he makes when I choose wrong. It made me realize how bad I am at distinguishing instruments haha. Although some of them seem to be much louder than others, I couldn't hear the piano or the harp at all. Really nice use of the theme as well you get 5 stars for theme and innovation.

sandpile 2017-12-05 00:07

Really fun game! I just wish i wasn't so bad at it! hahaa.. The snippet of music you hear never gets old, and it puts a smile on my face when the guy sings!

stamblew 2017-12-05 00:08

Great job, the game accomplishes well what the theme has to offer. This could be used in a music school for sure! Well done!

pizzatotino 2017-12-05 00:13

I love the concept! Frustrating at times, but oh so satisfying when you get it!

yodog 2017-12-05 04:55

This is an excellent ear training tool! I actually like the fact that it's so cacophonous and not super melodic. It really adds to the difficulty. Nice work! The instrument that I had the hardest time with was the cello. It just gets a little too buried in the mix. I'm going to share this with my high school music appreciation class.

csdoescs 2017-12-05 08:12

This is a cool idea! Brings me back to my days in band haha.

schmavery 2017-12-05 08:21

Great idea, for me it seemed hard enough that it maybe have been nice to re-listen-to the music without having to try and pick (when I knew I had missed some), but that might just be my bad ear! Well done.

jeffchen 2017-12-05 08:22

Haha,i really don't know much about instruments, but the game is really fun, musics are great, and the graphics are funny

samuli-salonen 2017-12-05 08:29

I like the idea, but for some reason i couldn't select the instrument near the singer. (this was in web build.)

parttimeindie 2017-12-05 09:40

@samuli-salonen There is still a bug in the web gl build with the lightning for the voice, you can click it and it will lighten most of the room. We are going to fix that bug.

dupix 2017-12-05 15:13

nice idea and great performance, you feel like at musical school

cammy 2017-12-05 15:23

This is a lot of fun! Difficult to my untrained ear, though. Overall, well done!

grey 2017-12-05 16:17

Man, that is difficult. I really would have liked a replay button

hdtv 2017-12-05 16:39

Interesting take on the theme. The difficulty ramps quickly and I was only able to get through a few levels. This game as a little bit of an educational feel, I could see it turning into a children's game helping them with listening skills and introducing them to music.

jynspielt 2017-12-05 16:44

Really Good! Now I want a noncacophonian version with different music genres depending on the diffuculty!

adsilcott 2017-12-05 17:01

How wonderfully creative! Great use of the theme!

sayomgwtf 2017-12-05 17:12

"Interview at cacophony is a music-puzzler or, as we call it, a musuzzler." Haha, I love this!

I found this game entry because one of your team members posted about the music samples, and I'm so glad I tried it out. This is different from everything I ever played before, and I really enjoyed it! Great job you guys :)

mortus 2017-12-05 18:33

Unique and quite fun game. Too hard for my ears though. Even on easy I have a hard time picking 5 instruments. Would help if you could listen to it again without making a guess you're almost sure is wrong anyway, because you've had to guess. At least on easy.

falak 2017-12-05 20:53

Ok! Really fun game. This game is harde well thanks for "Good luck" XD good entry

simon-stalhandske 2017-12-05 22:10

It's a super nice idea and the musical pieces are well executed. Pretty fun as well, for a while. The interface and graphics are quite meh tho, but it works for the game.

fullmontis 2017-12-06 15:11

This is a nice idea for the theme. I found it quite challenging, especially because I could not hear again the segment to double check. Maybe adding an easier mode for those like me would make the game more including. I think graphically it could have been designed a little better, especially since a big part of the screen is just background.

parttimeindie 2017-12-06 15:48

@fullmontis if you guessed wrong you can hear it again, this will decrease your grade. But yes maybe we should have made it possible to relisten in an easier mode, without the penalty.

josef21296 2017-12-06 16:12

Cool idea! I love seeing people with such original ideas. Really nice game.

iluvatar 2017-12-06 16:20

The most original game I have played so far. Awesome, fun and unusual, just what I like :) Must have been hard work to create all that music and set it together. Good job!

wowa 2017-12-06 16:45

Theme naild it but it's a pretty hard game. But a good idea, well done!

pixel-maniacs 2017-12-06 17:32

Wow, this idea is amazing and fits the theme very good. The graphics are not the best, but who cares on such a good music concept. Great work

happygreenfrog 2017-12-06 18:50

Oh my goodness this game is hilarious and is probably now my new choice for most favorite game of the Jam so far. Wonderful job!

elemental-zeal-game-studios 2017-12-07 02:30

Haha, I am not good at this. But really cool idea. After selecting more than three instruments, the feedback "I said you should select 3 instruments" really cracked me up for some reason. Great job!

osterzone 2017-12-07 10:20

It seems like there's a bug right now where the electric guitar sometimes doesn't have any sound when it's playing the instruments for you to guess. I got it once on the first level and it had the bug, but on level 4 it didn't. Otherwise, this is a really cool idea for a game, I personally couldn't pick out any more than two instruments at a time reliably, but I might well just be bad

christoph 2017-12-07 11:43

@osterzone Thanks for review, the fact that the instruments make no sound while playing the music is not a mistake, it should be so that the player can concentrate better on the song and is not distracted by other sounds. The instruments only play a tone after the music has finished playing.

dunin 2017-12-07 13:04

Nice sort of educational game and cool to see something like that in ludum dare! well executed!

hugimugi7 2017-12-07 13:05

Interesting game! Characters looked clunky and weird in my opinion though...

edmond00 2017-12-07 13:15

It was very hard but I enjoyed this game ! It let the player confirm his ability to recognize instrument and this is interesting. I would like a little easier version. Good job !

aruculadomal 2017-12-07 14:12

So funny to play! Amazing entry! I really enjoyed the game, never made to the end though, 6 instruments is too difficult for me haha.

miguel-montero 2017-12-07 14:37

Good. Weird models, but nice entry.

oceanosaurus 2017-12-07 15:14

I love this kind of entries, it was nothing I would have expected. Fits the jam's theme perfectly (the more instruments the harder it gets to recognize them). Such as simple, yet super original idea which works like a charm. As a music aficionado I really dig this one, found myself playing for quite a while.

My only suggestion would be being able to "cancel" listening to your selection, as many times you realize pretty fast that it was incorrect, yet you have to listen the sample completely.

Congrats on delivering this, one of my favs so far!

parttimeindie 2017-12-07 15:34

@oceanosaurus We thought about canceling the sounds, but since we ran short on time we needed to cut stuff :/, but thanks for the nice review :)

imod 2017-12-07 16:56

Very original idea. Good game for hearing training.

turbulentwinds 2017-12-07 22:25

Creative, reminds me of my Music classes: "Now, did this piece contain a harpsicord?"

steven-pinto 2017-12-08 08:44

Nice concept! Its differently got difficult in a good way, as it matches the theme :) Well done and all the best! Pls feel free to play and rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/split

porcus-pie 2017-12-08 09:15

I really quite enjoyed this game, and even though I am a music student it still challenged me quiet a bit. It was really unique, and the interpretation of the theme was done really well. The graphics were simple enough to get the point across, although I would have like a bit more animation or movement, maybe instruments growing as well as the lighting when you click them. The audio was nice and clear and you could hear the instruments, except for the harp. For some reason I always found that the harp was nigh-on impossible to hear. Other than that this was really unique, and I had loads of fun testing my skills on it, great game.

lerpish 2017-12-08 12:54

I guess i didnt got the game and maybe it isnt for me but i can see what u were trying to do but it just isnt for mr good game though

savinvadim 2017-12-08 16:08

I like the idea. And the sounds are realy great. Nice concept and a pretty decent game!

jfraser314 2017-12-08 17:34

Well, I normally feel pretty bad about my musical skill/aptitude but now I feel especially bad. I was not able to get past the first part. Great idea, just not made for me.

mar3k 2017-12-08 19:10

Nice game, It's simple and quirky and I like that, fun to play around with. But the mouse detection seems to be a bit off at least in the browser version. Job well done.

mewsoul 2017-12-09 21:45

Super interesting entry! It was a bit too hard to me but still was quite fun ahah It's pretty nice thought to keep the correct instruments selected! I think being able to select instruments when the song is still playing could be nice too :)

miggyg 2017-12-10 02:22

This game was incredibly fun! Was difficult at times, but very interesting. You included a good variety of different instruments and created a great overall experience. Great job!

snipera 2017-12-12 00:30

Great entry, really interesting and loved it. I'm not very good at instruments, but it was still fun to try this out! :D

2017-12-19 20:55

Nice idea! Great music. I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dENfZnM6OQM

axoona 2017-12-23 22:47

very nice music puzzler indeed! I needed to practice a few times before I was able to finish on the easy mode ;) It's an interesting idea as there are not many games like this.

what I think, would be really cool to have is a "hear melody again" button but I guess it's part of the challange. It would also be great to be able to choose instruments while the melody is playing.

gustavo-christino 2017-12-26 19:57

I think the piano is not "working" (when it gives focus of light on it).

It would be interesting to be able to listen at a chosen time, allowing the person to prepare for the test (instead of doing it automatically at first).

The art was very cool, as was the concept of using Music and puzzle.
