Wow! you weren't kidding with that warning:). The game was quite boring to a beginning but when the flashing and camera rotation start it really becomes a whole other game. I like the graphics, simple and effective, but the lack of sound hurt the game a lot. It could had been a lot more stressfull and hectic with some basic sound effects. It's not the most innovative game ever but the execution is great if you factor out the lack of audio. Good job man!
Heads up: The Linux version is linked dynamically against `libsfml-graphics.so.2.3`, which is not present on my system, and my package manager only has version 2.4! :)
@blinry I know, I have tried endlessly to fix this by linking statically. I don't have much experience with this however and cannot get it to work :/
My system (Ubuntu 16.04) does still have the 2.3 version, so that is why I am using the older version.
I really liked how you animated the world with the spinning/growing objects and rotating camera. It made the game feel "alive".
I think the crazy visual affects are let down a a lot by lack of sound and music. The flashing colours feel a bit odd without some crazy music to accompany them.
A couple of a bugs were a bit frustrating, but can be expected from a Jam game. The ball was "flickering" as it moved which was distracting, and often the ball disappeared off the screen completely which felt unfair.
Generally really fun, although I don't think I could play it for long as after a while the effects can be a bit of an overload!
Wow that was insane, I love it!
The "hold down a key to jump mechanics" felt a little to slow when the visual effects kicked in.
Nice mechanic with the hold to charge up your jump height there. Felt like I died around 55 seconds due to the character falling off the screen which felt a bit cheap but yeah, a nice (fairly trippy) take on the dinosaur game in chrome ;)
Score: 80.46
I like it, but the flashing colors don't really fit without music.
That was a pretty innovative take on a classic genre!
I like how it starts out like any other side-scroller, and then uses more and more visual tricks, until you finally mess up and collide with an obstacle. For me, that point was reached at 68.853 seconds.
The control of the variable jump felt pretty good. I agree with others that the experience could be enhanced with some sound effects, as well as some music which fits the changing of the landscape.
A nice entry!
>Avoid obstacles, >morphing, turning, and flashing. >What a hectic ride!
Pretty hardcore game once you go over 50/60sec ahah Actually the feeling you have when you start to go around is pretty nice! ^^
One thing that could be nice would be to have some zoom out when your ball go out of the screen, and maybe the flashing is bit too hardcore ahah
Great game! I really like the monochromatic graphics and the transition to colors. Its beautiful about halfway through when the "stars" start changing colors. I think the flashing was a bit too much - it hurt my eyes. The way you implemented multiplayer is really nice. One critique: the players' balls should never leave the screen IMO. But, great job!
I love the ramp up in the distracting graphics. Only misses ramping up disco music
That camera rotation completely changed the game. I found myself wondering if there was more to the game, just before it changed and got interesting. The disorientation was distracting, but I feel that was intentional and part of the reason behind the challenge over time.
This is trippy fucking shit! It's super cool! And pretty fun! As it went on, I got super into not dying because shit was going DOWN. I got a 76! Ignore the people who are saying "too much." No way. No such thing.
I'm on Windows. I saw you could play with a friend (yay!) and got my brother to play. However, when I did Space and Enter, we became invincible.
5 Stars in Fun, Graphics, and Mood!
I started playing this and wondered where it would take me. The initial game's aesthetic is fairly simple, not unlike most LD games. But then the stars changed colour and I remembered the epilepsy warning. Personally I would have preferred if the graphics went into surreal territory and not into something so extreme. It does get painful to watch after a while.
Liked the art style and really liked the animation. It really made the game look a lot better and more fluent. Then the camera started rotating and all the flashing colors really made it looked cool.
The gameplay itself is very fun and I like the idea of the multiplayer. It is a very simple game but fun and it has some replay value. Music and some sound effects would have been great. Also more different obstacles too spice up the gameplay.
But great work regardless!
I am not epileptic but i had to stop after 30s and i am nauseous now. Seemed funny though.
I agree with @annagavaldakedavra It was ab it too much to handle :D Even for the short time I played the gameplay felt good and was fun. Maybe if you have no problem with the flashing colors you can fully enjoy this :)
Cheers
Was fun to play after I figured it out
I have to say, this is very well-done visually. Various little details make it keep getting trippier and trippier as it goes on. It's also a very fun game, although the difficulty seems to take a sudden spike about one minute in.
WOW! Awesome game! Really fun, controls felt good, and the graphics were awesome. Loved the progression through different stages of craziness. I thought the charge-up time on the jump and eventual off-screen character were nice touches that increased the difficulty in interesting ways - I definitely don't consider those downsides!
Other people are right - this is exactly the kind of game that NEEDS music. But everything else about it was so great that I can forgive that omission :D
Wow now that was an interesting experience! I will admit that it started to hurt just looking at the game after a while ahaha! it is a challenging experience but i don't see myself coming back to play again, oh god my eyes! Excellent work! :ok_hand:
my best score was 75
Interesting game. Seems simple at the beggining, then you see the epyleptic work and all goes up. You seem to have a bit of a problem with camera movement as the transition doesn't see as fluid as it could, but very good work :D
Holy cow, I feel this is the video game equivalent of a drug trip. The game starts of really simple, and then just builds and builds. The added distractions add lots of different layers of gameplay, and let the game become progressively harder and harder. I did also really like how you managed to incorporate multiplayer by just simply using other buttons, that worked really well. My only complaint would be that I would have really liked to have some audio, maybe some sort of EDM that drops when the colours start to flash
Thanks for the content warning!
That was amazing ! Everything is so simple but so perfect. The visuals compositions, the world space, the camera moves, the backgrounds... you even managed to add multiplayer.
There is probably a lot of possible things to add gameplay-side, level-side, even the ball animation could express a lot more. But there are several things that are probably not features but that seems to me partly responsible for the game mood : the minimalist game duration/content/presentation, the staggering movements, how the ball is lost out of screen sometimes and... the silence, in total contrast with the visuals. Every one of them increase this visual experience. Keep them.
80 seconds by the way. But I'm sure I can beat that. I dive in again.
Bravo !
edit : okay, I just discovered how to Reverse space and elevate my View. I can do more than 100 now. I feel complete.
Really funny and simple game! Great job!
