Fun idea, I can relate to the whole sneaking through public space in a small town :D Will you be taking this game further and releasingand updated version?

rick 2017-04-25 18:39

@takusan We're thinking of adding a little bit of polish and level tweaking in there regardless. Depending on other comments and feedback we might turn this into something more solid.

occultone 2017-05-01 10:56

This was far more relatable than I had imagined it would be... I think the vision cones got a little messed up as the game progressed, people who weren't even facing me would detect me as I moved. Really fun game with a great mood and aesthetic.

Was the team really that big?

takusan 2017-05-01 13:10

I've added rating in addition to my earlier feedback. Cheers!

rick 2017-05-01 15:01

@occultine We'll make sure to fix the vision cones in the Post Compo version, thanks for pointing it out!

And yup, the team really was that big :grin:

Most of us never made a game before, and only one of us had worked with Phaser, so Ludum Dare was the perfect excuse for us to try it all out.

fiote 2017-05-02 23:20

Man those conversations lmao! Nice javascript entry btw! Loved it ^^

jasperarmstrong 2017-05-03 01:27

Very cool little game! I love the art. I almost got out of the store without talking to anyone. The vision cones seemed to pass through walls a few times. Also, it would have been nice to be able to move diagonally.

chunkybrewster 2017-05-03 05:13

Love this take on the theme & some funny dialogue. I felt the tension from not wanting to talk to anyone every time I got spotted. Well done!

jorbits 2017-05-03 08:32

I like this game. It's funny and first I thought the other people would kill me.

bladesides 2017-05-03 08:38

Relatable as hell haha. Just wondering if it fits the teme though :/

kasarun 2017-05-03 08:47

I was trapped in a corner, people waiting in line around me to talk with me. Run out of battery with every things of the shop list.

A good entry, well polished, nice atmosphere and great sounds & graphics :thumbsup:

nilead 2017-05-03 09:50

Fun dialoges, good art and great theme approach! The feeling of sneaking in a public place you are not supossed to be at night... aaaah, that's a very precise feeling and you almost nailed it.

huvaakoodia 2017-05-03 10:15

Great idea and graphics! There's always room for more stealth entries. :spy:

I couldn't get to the end no matter what I tried as whenever the camera moves the character becomes very slow... on Firefox that is! Tried on Chrome and managed to finish the first time around as there's no slow down at all. Weird that.

Good work otherwise!

mewsoul 2017-05-03 11:38

Honestly, this game has been the funniest one I've rated yet!

The idea is really original, the conversations were really fun to read, overall it has been a great experience. The concept with the phone battery as a timer is pretty cool, nice to find some battery bonus as well, you feel the pressure of the time while trying to get everything and avoiding the conversations, that's a really nice mix! I'm a fan of the graphics (congrats to the artist(s)), and the sound effects deserve well the game!

And here is for the things that bugged me a little bit, or that I think can be improved:

- The field of view of the characters feel too big, I think something like 90 degrees would be more appropriate;

- I think the conversation should start after you spent a certain amount of time in the field of view of the character, because what sometimes happened is that the character is turning and I'm not yet in its field of view but the conversation has already been triggered (like it has been calculated before the graphics have been updated) and so it feels a bit unfair;

- I'd give a bit more time after ending a conversation before the characters can talk to you again, it happened to me I'd hit something invisible couldn't move and that a character comes and talk to me, or maybe fixing the colliders could help to resolve this problem (for example here: https://puu.sh/vE9MY/9ba512f801.mp4 , this video also illustrates the previous point);

- That would be nice as well if the locations of the items were randoms (like some areas defined, so that you still have some distance between every items), so that would be possible to replay the game without already having the solution;

- The only bug I noticed (in the first version, didn't try it in the post-compo version so maybe it has been fixed) is that when you end the game, and start it again, the game starts with how much battery you had when you finished the game.

For some more improvements if you wanna go further into the development of the game, maybe having some actions between each window of the conversation. For example, like you could listen quietly or trying to end up the conversation if you're really in a hurry, but this last action could have a big impact later in the game, for example if you happen to meet again the same character in another store if you're in another level, or even in the same store but moments later, the character would remember that and then it would be harder to quit the conversation, etc... Those kind of choices would be like in Life Is Strange for example, but that's just an idea like an other ^^

To sum up that was a really nice game, hope you don't take any of the points I wrote in a bad way, it's just because I liked the game I end up writing all that ^^

Cheers, keep it up!

Wow! Graphics and sounds are fantastic! They create a wounderful atmosphere. The only thing i would change is the volume at the beginning. The music is a little too loud so it's hard to understand the narrator.

selftitled 2017-05-03 17:10

Nice art, I had some frame rate issues that made somewhat difficult.

makenai 2017-05-03 18:50

Fun idea! The struggle for Thanksgiving shopping is real.

gamechoy 2017-05-03 22:09

Great game! Controls are great, difficulty isn't too hard, and the premise is unique. The graphics are nicely polished and the music is too, my only complaint is that some of the shoppers tend to cluster to create giant death walls that can cost you the game sometimes. Very nice entry!

rick 2017-05-03 22:20

@gamechoy thanks for playing! We're in the middle of doing some level improvements in the post compo. So that death wall won't be a problem anymore :smile:

spiteful-fox 2017-05-04 06:50

The small town during holidays feel was very relatable, but the game was sooooo difficult for me. The character kept getting caught on the corners of colliders or getting spotted by an atom in someone's peripheral vision. Still, a good looking game and a fun premise. ^_^

clegamecoop 2017-05-06 19:44

Lol, hiding behind plants, darting between aisles to avoid recognizable faces.... felt JUST like coming home for the holidays! HAHA! I LOVE avoidance/stealth games! I really liked the art style, the music and SFX EXCEPT the voiceover in the very beginning didnt seem to fit the rest of the game. Also, the movement around objects seemed pretty loose/distant. I would have liked to be able to move closer to some objects to hide etc. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this!!

ajayajayaj 2017-05-10 01:02

Very interesting idea. So many authors :)!!. I think I broke it, I accidentally hit space on a checked item and it went back in game, and I didn't know where to look for the next item.

Congrats on your awesome game!

sgstair 2017-05-15 23:04

Wow, just wow. Really well done graphics, sound, environment - incredibly funny. Gameplay needs some work though imo, collision exists where it seems like it shouldn't - making it hard to get around, and the other people's movement feels really random and unfair. Writing is just over the top, very nicely done.

I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/141469699 - time 2:00:10

boorik 2017-05-16 16:47

Great game guys!!! Nice supermarket infiltration :D

harry-alissavakis 2017-05-16 19:44

This game speaks to my heart :P It's a really well made game, congrats! The graphics were very good and consistent, the gameplay was really fun and overall this game is ridiculously polished! I loved everything, from the UI to the awesome music playing when the people are talking to you. My only concern is that it was too hard, I always bumped into somebody's line of sight. I didn't notice if it mattered being behind stuff (I played the jam version, not the post-compo). Nevertheless, it was a very fun and funny game, and certainly well made. Great job! :D

anim-ace 2017-05-17 17:05

Pretty cute game. I think there was another game in this jam that was based around sneaking in a supermarket, but this one has a lot more effort put into it. Nice story, great job!

himeija 2017-05-19 17:07

I love the idea of the game! But I find it really too frustrating for someone impatient like me ^^ Anyway I laughed by playing it! And the graphics are great !

syndelis 2017-05-19 17:44

Great game overall!

Very easy to play and understand the rules of the game, so great design! The graphics and sounds create an unique theme for the game.

The only note I want to add is that I would like to see diagonal movement, but I understand why there is none.

daisychubb 2017-05-19 19:42

Wow!!! Amazing graphics and unique gameplay, you really went above and beyond this Ludum Dare. The concept is too real - black friday vibes.

Honestly this game is so polished, I'm impressed - great team work! I hope I can whip something up like this, maybe in a few Ludum Dares ;) Great job A++!

2017-06-04 14:05

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lCZIZXfBmw
