@fictions Thanks for the feedback! Did you get stuck in as totally unable to progress?
One of the best games I've tried so far. The gameplay mechanics are very good and interesting. The mood and the music is very well made! Only thing i missed was a restart/reset button as I got stuck a couple of times and had to reload the page to start over. Anyway, solid entry. Very good job!
I also got stuck (around 4th level, stuck in the ground, unable to move) but it was really good ! Loved this music and sound effects, the controls are great, the gameplay is good and simple. Great game !
The game feels very good to play even though I find it a bit frustrating when the nugget gets stuck in little crevasses. I got stuck at the 5th et 6th hole (camera is weird, and unable to do anything) but you saved the progress so that wasn't that bad. Loved that you combined the gold nugget and golf, it really adds personnality to the game. Good job!
Hi!
Super cool idea, altough a bit buggy ;) at the third or fourth level my screen became black (twice, so I don't know what comes next).
But this is a game jam and bugs are definitely part of it!
I would remove the collider from the player, since it is annoying to shot on yourself, but for the rest it is a very neat execution of a golf game :)
Core gameplay is great, but levels could use some work. Are they rpocgen? If yes, you need better procgen or handmade levels.
Really cool idea for a game. The movement feels really crisp but unfortunately the collider interactions between the player and the ball make it rather hard and unpredictable to get the ball unstuck. Really nice mood with the music though, Supermassive sure make some great VSTs
cool idea, though after 5th or so level the game just teleports you to the wall. there is no message so I think its a bug
Thanks a lot everyone! Good comments, good feedback  . It seems like the player getting stuck inside the ground on some level changes is a quirk of the hastily done HTML5 version since I didn't see it happen in the Windows Standalone. I may investigate that later.
@baturinsky Yeah, it's procedural. The level generation isn't that smooth I agree but I'm glad it works at least. Striking a good balance with annoying vs. challenging is tricky (since a game like this can't be too easy either!) and getting that working well would take a LOT of work. I might look into it at some point after I've recovered from this weekend though
@dynamix @stuartc The little sharp corners can get annoying with the levels, I agree.
Nice art, cool idea, I wasn't sure what the point of the grey nugget was. I usually hit myself, maybe the nugget shouldn't collide with the player. Didn't really get much from the theme, maybe if you were trying to hit the nugget down an endless cavern and hit it to unstick it would fit more. Game got stuck/frozen on the 4th level I think.
I think this is my favorite game yet. Even though its LOADED with jank. I had to refresh the page after basically every second level - kudos for coming up with the saving system to circumvent that problem though!
Very nice atmosphere with the visuals, music and especially the ambience sounds.
The mechanics are super fun - although I wish my dude wouldn't bump into the ball and be in it's way all the time. Some tricky spots, where the ball get's stuck and you have to try to lump it out midjump come way to early though.
Technically this is an interesting mix - the game has procedural levels, which aren't easy to do - especially like this, but also some things which seem to be founded in a lack of experience as a Unity developer. :D
@antti-tiihonen I got embedded deep in rock on about level 5
Core gameplay and mechanics are really fun and satisfying. Flying around feels great, and the music is lovely. The known bugs in the HTML5 version (spawning inside rocks in a new level) were irritating but just required a refresh of the page. Level generation generally worked well, I don't know if there are metrics to make sure the ball can actually reach the hole but I didn't get any impossible levels. Not the most original game though, and not sure what it has to do with the theme.
Got the same bug of spawning inside a rock on level 5, 9 and 11, decided to stop there, but the game is super good. That's a very neet way to go with the theme, the mechanics work great, the sound design is very good, really cool game. The only thing that I would change is add the possibility to take away the character, it's not necessary most of the time (and playing with the character, trying to nudge the nugget is a plus) but when the nugget gets into a tiny hole and the character has to be on top of it to reach it it can get a bit annoying.
stuck bug does keep happening. but even so the controls are smooth and just feel fun to do, nice job :) Real good effort into that base mechanic, it really payed of~ very fun
I enjoyed this one quite a bit! The feel was great, the graphics were simple but worked well. The mood was good, which is not normally something I say in a golf game!
I agree that there isn't much of a reason to have the player interact with the ball. I like flying around, but maybe make the player body and ball not interact with each other? It led to some weirdness, plus I was always accidentally kicking the nugget into corners which were then difficult to get out of.
Nice work!
Solid audio, I appreciate pretty much anything inspired by desert golfing. I personally feel like there might be a bit of a missed opportunity to play with gravity when the nugget is near another object, such as the hole. Coming of course from a place of not knowing how your gravity works and also understanding that having places that get _weird gravity_ might make holes significantly more difficult / impossible.
The game is very entertaining and challenging. I got stuck but then I found out I just need to move the ball out of the bad spot. The movement and tracing of the hit is very smooth and with good physics, the speed and direction felt on point.
I would recommend adding special blocks or "holes" that can grant power ups or wacky ball physics.
You need to redesign it into a mobile game or switch, something with touch controls
Nice twist on the classic 2d golf mechanic. The camera still has some hiccoughs to work out and the connection to the theme is slightly strenuous. The music and sound was very good.
Gameplay works really smoothly, good job. Music is great as well. One minus that when trying to hit the ball i kept bumping into it and moving it.
I suppose that's OK as a post-compo update since the issue didn't exist on the original compo standalone exe version, just on the post-compo HTML5 port?
Everyone is absolutely correct with the player vs. gold nugget collisions being annoying. What I had hoped to do with that was that player could move the nugget around or even headbutt it mid-flight to control its movements but as it is the player controls and collisions are not nearly tight enough to work for that purpose. If I develop the game further I'll have to rethink the role of the player character or if I should scrap it entirely. The thing is though that without the character the game turns into an almost direct clone of Desert Golfing. I mean it already is like a 95% clone of it but what I'd like to achieve, if possible, would be to differentiate from it even further by strengthening the role of the character.
The connection with the theme also is also admittedly thin at best. The idea is that the levels get deeper the more you play but you would really have to play the game for hours to notice a difference there.
@binaryprinciple @robin-scarbrough Nice ideas. Those could definitely spice up the experience.
Nice game. However, I don't see what having to walk to the ball adds to the game? I guess it's more like real golf...
@smbe19 In hindsight... Not much The character was basically a leftover from the initial idea of the game (which was WAY too ambitious so I had to simplify) where there were more platforming components in the game and the gold nugget was also used as a weapon against enemies. That's what happens when you're developing at a pace where you can't stop to think
Your random generation is insanely cool! Pretty cool game.
A challenging but fun game! I liked the simplicity of the controls, and how tricky it is sometimes!
Also, you listing the tools you used on your game's page reminded me that whe have to do the same!
Nice little game, it would definitely be a nice mobile game! It was really entertaining, the maniability works fine, but the collision between the player and the ball can be a bit annoying sometimes.
Great job :D
Simple and very neat! Loved the movements.
That was nice, a good little golf game with quality and quite impressive random generation (or so im told xD ) and a little wit here and there! Good job!
The music is so intense haha love it
I feel vaguely uncomfortable after that. I'm not sure why, maybe the uncanny valley character, the unsettling music, the emanating darkness I am smashing golf balls into, or what. Also there's not much "real golf" about flying around with a jetpack trying to juggle a golden nugget ;)
