LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Bitcoin Dozer 3D by chadrbanks 2018-05-13T15:05:10Z

I hadn't actually played a physics-based coin dozer game before (although they do seem to be an entire genre on mobile!). While the physics works fairly well, the layout of the board makes it less exciting - no big coin stacks 'just about to topple' (especially on the moving shelf, as you get on most real machines), and the Bitcoin theme was a bit of a wasted opportunity - you could have done something involving wildly fluctuating values (perhaps affecting coin size), or a choice of which currency to play?

Just bullet: A turn-based hell by zeu31 2018-05-13T15:56:41Z

Quite enjoyed this - fun choice of genres, and it actually worked quite well. I beat the boss, but had to let it make a full loop around the screen before doing any real damage... (yes, keyboard controls would have helped an awful lot!)

Blitztris by ThatFrankGuy 2018-04-29T13:38:04Z

Nice idea and fun presentation, loved the trail effect when you rotate. The difficulty scaling seemed a bit off though, it would suddenly go from almost nothing happening to bullet hell? (also, bug report?: it might have just been my PC, but the controls were a bit laggy - if you hold down a direction, it would continue for a fraction of a second after releasing the key?)

Cross Word Shooter by celmer89 2018-05-13T15:29:46Z

Really nice idea - I could see this being a lot of fun with some refinement - but as it was, I was finding it a bit too hard to hit distant letters, and was quickly overwhelmed due to them advancing from a full 360 degrees...

(Actually, I could see this making a very fun little VR game if you add some of @joror's suggestions, limit the letters to attacking from maybe a 120-180 degree frontal cone, and have the precision of the Vive or Oculus Touch controllers to shoot them)

ELLIPTRICS by Amman 2018-05-13T15:16:17Z

Looks and sounds rather pretty, but I couldn't figure out how to stop/slow the circle shrinking. Left-mouse seemed to do nothing, and there didn't seem to be obvious interaction with the 'flowers'? (And the slow mouse movement outside of the circle made it physically uncomfortable to play)

Maybe I was missing something really obvious?... More detailed instructions might have made a big difference?

LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Zombie Fisticuff Quarrel by deps 2010-08-26T13:03:00

Avira detected malware in main.exe - 'TR/Dropper.Gen'

May be a false positive, but I'm not running this one just in case

Basketball girl by JDruid 2010-08-26T12:47:00

Wow, an entry for which the humor category is relevant!

It played quite well, although could have used a little more variety.

The music was awesome - rare to hear good tunes in LD48 entries :)

Robocolosseum by Toeofdoom 2010-08-26T12:58:00

Nice graphics, and the music adds a lot of atmosphere.

The camera could have been better, though (further back, raised?) - as I found it quite was hard to judge where things are, and maybe the player controls seemed a little slow?

MegaTongue by piotrekb 2010-08-26T12:30:00

Tongue movement was nice, but I usually died suddenly when I got anywhere near an enemy - It wasn't obvious that the 'particles' fired from the enemy were dangerous - and their range was about the same as the player's range of vision?

SFXr makes great coin collect sounds, though, doesn't it :)

illumynate by Zillix 2010-08-26T12:38:00

Very nicely presented, nice ideas - I found it very hard to play, though - the flashlight lasts under a second on a full charge, and starts to fade out at 50%? (Was that as intended, or is there a framerate/timestep bug there?)

Dr. Stein's Super Weapons VS Giant Robots by benjaminum 2010-08-26T13:13:00

It also seemed to run rather too fast for me - especially jumping, and the speed made it very hard to use the attract/repel mechanic

Still managed to get to the end, though

Defend Your Glacier by Meep 2010-08-26T12:23:00

Nice character sprite, movement feels right, several enemy types

Little tip for parallax scrolling - the further back the layer is, the more slowly it should scroll - your background layers seemed to be moving faster than the foreground, which didn't quite look right

LD21 — Escape

Victory by refrag 2011-09-11T19:23:00

Nicely made platformer, crate-spawning mechanic was interesting - although unforgiving at times... very easy to get crushed! I played through all 20 levels - the narrative at the start seemed 'trying too hard to be arty', but by the end it seemed to work quite well - nice job.

26 Prisoners by Devenger 2011-08-24T14:56:00

Nice idea, well made and good use of the theme. I got a little frustrated by lv6 though and game up there. The use of unique letters for each prisoner was cool - but it made the deselect key a bit arkward to reach? (Also, the game would have benefitted from a 'select all' key)

Caved In by alexlarioza 2011-09-11T18:49:00

Nicely made, and quite a lot in it for a 48hr game. I think a slightly larger visible area may have made it more fun, though? (Unfortunately, I'm getting quite tired of the mining/building genre these days, though!)

D.T.R.J by Zemmi 2011-09-11T19:36:00

Finished it (829 steps/307 switches). Quite a nice mechanic - didn't get too hard, as some box-shifting puzzle games often do

Prelude of the Chambered by Notch 2011-09-04T16:40:00

Very impressive the amount of features in this for a 48hr.

Personally I'm not a fan of lo-fi textures in 3D, but the Minecrafty style is obviously a very good choice when you need to create lots of content fast!

Combat was a bit awkward, and it seemed a bit easy to die

Watched bits of the stream, interesting to see how fast you could get stuff in - maybe I've gained a bit of respect for Java now!

Overall, a fairly awesome entry, so I won't deduct a community point for your fans contributing to the LD website troubles :)

Escape from Monster City by KevinWorkman 2011-09-11T19:05:00

Shame it's a bit unfinished - It's nice to see a level layout that's not just a tilemap, and something 3D that's not done in Unity. And the steering-based controls make it a bit different. But with no clear goal or scoring system, it didn't hold my attention for long.

Space Pirates Suck! by Xion 2011-09-11T18:57:00

Nice character sprites/anims, and quite a well implemented game - but very unforgiving - the indicators don't show the full extent of an enemy's line of sight?

LD26 — Minimalism

MiniCave by aare 2013-05-01T19:08:00

Certainly an interesting idea, a triangular player with a weapon per edge, but it was a bit too unpredictable, and I never felt in control. Nice experiment though, and a nice minimal style to it

Jump On Cube (flash) by Naram 2013-05-19T17:28:00

Strangely compulsive... Fit the theme well, nice feel to the jumping, but let down by the lack of any obvious 'restart' button, and 'sticky collisions' when on the ground.

Soldier of Yellowism by ovenchips 2013-05-01T19:01:00

Very nicely made and presented. Definitely one of the more original game mechanics that I've seen so far, and the time limites seemed well tuned, too - nice job!

Abduction - finally... by MartianWatts 2013-05-01T18:46:00

Not bad, quite a nice style to it. Might have been more fun with slightly faster movement, though?

DudeJump by agnulf 2013-05-01T18:51:00

Solid platforming mechanics... but rather too punishing without checkpoints and with such tight timers on the switches. (The 3rd screen took me several attempts and I thought I was fairly decent at platformers!). Audio was nicely done.

Conveyor by multikorv 2013-05-19T17:36:00

The control system was quite nice - but it was pretty hard, and collisions were a bit too 'sticky' - with jump not always responding when you expect. The 'jump->glide' mechanic reminds me a bit of Bombjack, and that was always fun

Princess Chardonnay in Bomb Kingdom by Ishisoft 2013-05-19T17:48:00

Another fantastic LD48 entry - shame you couldn't get a bit of audio in, but the art, presentation, and puzzle design were really great for a 48hr game! Some nice little touches in there too, with the animation and the way the bombs move around

LD15 — Caverns

Let's go cave-burrowing by sirGustav

Control system + physics worked well - though the game seemed to run very slowly for (very smooth, just slow). The overlapping soft-edged tiles wre a nice idea. Shame there were no enemies/hazards to add a challenge

Roundabout RandaBat by Fifth

Nice audio, intersting way of seeding the random cave generator

Xue by angrywaffle

Nice parallax/depth-of-field/shading. Shame about the red triangle, though... I also tried to 'press the play button'!

Cevern0048 by Sophie Houlden

Impressive! - first time I've seen a 3D animated human character in an LD48, I think? Good control system, very nice presentation on the score/combo system, good use of lighting

LD17 — Islands

Tropical Islands of Doom by Codexus

Very nice graphics - some good textures/models/lighting there, certainly one of the prettiest LD entries around.

Let down a little by the camera controls/camera clipping through things (I tried playing it on a laptop touchpad, though)

I must check out Unity some time soon :)

ICELAND, OR: How I learned to stop caring and love Eyjafjallajokull by drakfyre

The motion of the 'water' looked great, and the overall feel was nice

A Fishing Adventure by Sophie Houlden

It has a bit of a problem, that when you drop a fish, it vanishes. Makes it easy to get suck (accidentally destroying a fish), and I couldn't find a 'reset level' key?

Graphically it's pretty good - character animation in a 48hr compo is still impressive, character movement is nice

Had to finish it just to see what happens.... enjoyed it :)
