Amazing Game! Really well done!
wow that's a dope one! As a 3d artist myself, I can tell that a lot of effort was put into the art. I love the music as well, really adds a little something. The game is kind of short but that is to be expected in a 3 days game jam. Overall, great game!
Wow, this is awesome! Seriously the best-looking 3d game I've ever seen on LD.
The gameplay was great too. It didn't give me too much to manage at once but was still challenging. Controls and the camera were great too.
Very impressive all around! The sounds, the programming (I love what you did with the camera), the game feel, and especially the graphics! A bit too good for my computer though, and I had an abysmal framerate, which affected performance.
Well done everyone! Thoroughly enjoyed it :)
Really good graphics, could perfecly be the look of a full game! (My potato PC does not like that though ;))
Awesome game! Nice job
I think it is the best game of this jam. I would pay to play this game. Thank you for sharing source code.
I found the graphics a bit caotic for that gamplay. The snake-shooter concept is very good and well implemented, so points on that. The idea is funny hehe. Nice entry :)
Cool art, lighting and effects and fun gameplay. The only problem is that you cant see where you are going if you go down
Great game! I found a bug where if I am shooting while turning the camera gets locked and doesn't rotate with movement and my character constantly shoots and the only way out is to fire, not sure if it is intentional.
Wow, the game really looks amazing and it's fun to play! Good job...
Your graphics are unbeliveable for a 72h jam :o. Teach me please. Nice audio too. Maybe it lacks of something bigger ? Like more guns ;). I find the speed of the snake is a litle bit fast, and it made me miss power cells often, but maybe that's because i never was good at snake :D.
Congratulations !
Wow! This is like a full time game. Impressive the art and the lighting, it is so great! Really really congratulations guys!
The lightning, model and sfx are cool. Physics and control are great too! It is classic and modern at the same time!
Very impressive graphics, nice music! Controls are simple, yet not so easy to master. I really felt like playing an improved snake. Well done!
A follow cam on 90° turns is quite nauseating. Something less dynamic or fully analogue turns might have been better. Especially for this detail level. It was quite hard to judge the grid as well.
In the end I got shot down because I could neither pay much attention to the health bar at the bottom (focus was at the top towards targets/movement direction), nor did I dare to enter the nooks and crannies of the level to risk crashing for pickups (like, can my fat snek even *fit* through there?).
Still 32 is a respectable first mechasnek length.
Also locking the camera while shooting was a good choice :thumbsup_tone1: it would have been much worse without that.
Stunning! Graphics are just 👌 Very well done, besides the amazing visuals, the music also really adds to it. Just all around great job!
This was a well designed game! I especially enjoyed the graphics and the mood of the game.
Awesome game dude ! Beautifull Graphics and music ! The only bad point is the camera, rotating at 90° when turning can give some sickness to the players. But loved it !
Looks awesome, plays awesome, great job team! could definitely see it as a full game release :)
Wow, it almost looks and plays like a finished game. You chose a blend of genres that worked great.
Controls felt smooth, and both the graphics and sound were great, consistent and super polished.
The only bit to improve...I have to agree with the comment about the follow cam. While I was playing I didn't really notice, but now I'm feeling a bit dizzy because of the twists. Slightly related to the cam, too, it would have been cool to be able to see the enemies at all times.
Despite these two things, this is one of the best games I've seen so far, and I bet it'll remain that way.Hope you can continue working on this towards a full game.
Congrats! :clap_tone1: :clap_tone1: :clap_tone1:
Impressive stuff, it great, feels like a full game already. I think I'll have to agree with everyone mentioning camera issues, it caused weird view and in-intuitive controls(absolute rather then relative) but I got used to it. No secrets, game is graphically amazing, but I feel it might have benefited from a simpler look. It felt a bit busy and hard to know what was going on.
All in all, great game!
Fun and nice production value for a jam game! I agree with the camera being tricky, it makes the game harder than it would be with an overhead or other view. The environment is a little hard to read due to how dark it is, but not a big deal. Definitely a nice entry!
Graphics are so amazing!Really loved it!
Wow, if you really did all of that in just these days, that's very impressive! Excellent job.
Nice combination of theme, simple but clean and addictive. Nice flow :) Graphic and music makes a nice immersion. Maybe a camera more smooth, but i like your work
Just amazing ! Maybe just the camera that moves too abruptly, that'it!
Thank's for all the ratings and comments guys!! Agreeably the camera is quite jarring although after playing for a short while we all found that it was no longer too noticeable (though this may not be the case for everyone) We did include a top down camera view initially and if we do choose to release as a full game it's maybe something we could do as a separate mode which could be super cool. :) We're mostly from a mobile dev background so working on a pc title was a nice change of pace (just don't look too closely at those polygon counts) We'll probably post up something later with a breakdown of how we approached the art with a crazy lack of time and sleep.
Awesomeness! Lovely, brilliant game mechanics blowing my mind and I says WOW, that game! Visually game looks perefect and very polished.
And few cons from me: very small hitbox for health containers. Pretty boring after few minutes to shoot same enemies.
I have a lot HOPE that you will finish up this game to big one and some day I'll buy it in Steam store =)
Man what a juicy game! Fitting music, nice vfx, good sfx and great visuals. The camera didn't bother me one bit honestly and it was understandable why it moved the way it did. The shooting felt great and the controls work well except for one part.
I have to say that I'm not too sure about the other parts of the body being shootable and blocking your own shots, in a game like snake where it is the goal to become the longest you can become having something that punishes you for doing just that feels off. Though I guess that depends on how you want to approach the mix.
When first playing it was a bit difficult to grab powercells for some reason, I missed them, I'm not too sure why, maybe because there's no really clear grid displayed. But once you take the shift in perspective in mind while moving it becomes easier.
I'm not sure if this is intended, but the game remembers the buttons pressed. By pressing A and D repeatedly 10 times for instance, it'll do that action 10 times even after no longer pressing any buttons. It seems that the last action gets added to the end of the list of input actions, which probably isn't something you really want, you'll want tight and responsive controls when playing this, when making a mistake you'll want to be able to correct it immediately. It could be that this is a result of the game moving in real time and not necessarily in a manner of move-wait-move-wait like how snake usually works. It is rather nice for turning 180 degrees though, so maybe having a maximum of inputs to the list would be nice to have, or to have it based on the amount of time in between inputs.
When I played the first time I thought that some of the elements in the ground were some sort of powerup for my mechasnek, might be a cool idea? Like a boost or slow down, or different weapons even.
I would love to see this explored further with some more guns, different level layouts (Bigger levels!? Space!? Awesome!) and different enemies.
You've got a real gem here! Very cool, well done all, very impressive!
Hi @Densin thanks for the stellar review, appreciate the comments! :) As you say the difficult of encouraging progression to the longer snek is something we need to put more thought into. We could nerf damage taken across the body and introduce perks as you progress such as mad new weapons, body turrets etc. Like the concept of having a slowdown on the enemies!
Good catch on the inputs! Probably the result of not having enough time to test in the end. Would love to build some new levels, we actually prototyped a double sized level but our frame rate just collapsed! Watch this space though! :)
Cheers again!
Ooook, clearly a winner here :). The theme is spot on, the graphics and the sound were really great and the controls are very easy to grasp. The feeling comes immediately, very professional.
I've particularly appreciated the level design: I liked the fact there are some corners where we can be easily blocked (hence losing), that the style of the environment with their pipes and light pathes remind of the shape of a snake.
A few ideas to make it even better: - pushing the idea of dead-end and obstacles in the levels: making levels more maze-like - adding power up to momentarily shrink the length of the snake - and most of all: using the 3rd dimension! With multi-layered levels, with bridges, some conduits and even portals. With the ability for the snake to move on top of itself to reach inaccessible areas and so on.
Very good job, thank you!
This is a great example of the difference it makes working with a team, it's astonishing!
wow really impressive! Its so well polished and has such as cool style. Great entry, will do well
Would appreciate if you gave mine a go! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/left-for-bait
Hey, this one is one of the best projects I see at this LD so far. Really clean and fun. Good job.
Awesome game, most polished game I've seen yet.
This was so cool! thank you for making this game!
Very impressive game. I can't believe how fun it is. Very solid idea I like the snake mechanics.
looks fun and graphics is great. I thought my art is perfect for gam, but yours is even better. gameplay is about avoiding hp as much as possible, so it's like antisnake)
(one of your team had seen my game, for the rest of you and commentators: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/ssss)
Woah, this is really well done! You can be proud of this game. :)
NICE! :D Love the idea, simplicity of it. Sometimes it is hard to sense if you can pick up something or not, but it is the only disadvantage of the game :D I really enjoyed playing it :D Add some screenshake when shooting, hah! :D
WOW! It looks extremally good as something made by the small team during the game jam. Snake shooter is like the old-new game. It's refreshing, but also reminded me, old times when I mostly used my Nokia mobile phone for playing Snake.
Super cool this game is refined to a tee good job.
Okay, the game looks awesome ! I don't know if it's pre-made assets or not, but the whole is pretty clean and work very well. The concept is simple yet fun and engaging, even with the camera a bit unresponsive. Also, you could add a quality setting option, the game almost killed the computer I'm currently on :P But overall it's a very good game, quite polished. Congratulation on that one.
Hi @Toulou Thanks for the review! Yes all assets were made during the jam. We'll share a production post showing how it was done - mostly just creating as many modular assets as we could! Quality settings would definitely be a good idea! As Mobile developers we are always so restricted so when we got the opportunity to do something for pc we went a little crazy! haha
Hey all
Just a quick post for those who are interested with some of the art we worked on for our Jam Mechasnek :)
Mechasnek_Units.jpg
A lot of the speed modelling was completed in the first day and was intended to be as modular as possible and made without the need of high poly projections. All of the polys!
Mechasnek_Environments.jpg
On the second day we worked up the lighting which really helped to support the visuals, we only really required a few basic textures.
Didn't have a full day in on the third day but we managed to polish with a few fx and odds n ends. All in all quite an intense 3 days but great fun!
Hope you guys enjoy the game, I'm still not very good the maximum score that I've managed to date is 38 Mechasnek length :)

Wow, amazing game. The amount of work put into the visuals is very impressive. The game felt very polished.
The pipes and objects on the ground were a bit confusing because I wasn't sure if I was allowed to run into them so maybe the obstacles could be outlined in some way.
When destroying the enemies I kind of wish that the coins landed on the same tile so it would be easy to predict where it lands.
Apart from those minor things this game was one of the best ones I have played so far in this Ludum Dare. Really well done!
Hey! great game! amazing that were able to create such good 3d art ! one of my favs till now
Wow! Great game, i like your graphics a lot!
A really fun game! Really beautiful graphics! One thing bothers me a bit is this camera, it made me a bit dizzy.
Call him Kek the Snek and I'm giving this max stars.
Jokes aside, From the intro screen it was apparent to me that this would be a very polished game. Aesthetically it's pleasing and consistent, the particles complement the high contrast design. The shaders did it justice, especially the lighting. The only thing that tanked in quality was the UI which is to be expected, with submissions of this quality it's easy to forget this is a Jam game.
Gameplay-wise the game is simple but kept me involved nonetheless. Everyone knows "Snake" so few things like collecting power-ups and the grid movement are very clear from the start. What pushed it was definitely the shooting part. There's not much in terms of it and I encountered a few bugs but it's actually polished to the point where it's more than enough to keep it interesting. The camera however should see improvement. I appreciated the camera locking when the mouse button was pressed, but I still found it working against me half of the time.
There's an issue where the first enemy that explodes causes a half a second freeze, likely from loading the texture data for the particles. You can remedy this by doing it off the main render texture in a loading screen so it's preloaded once it's needed. Another issue I had was the shooting would sometimes persist even though I'm not pressing the mouse button. I made sure this wasn't due to me spazztically moving the mouse out of the game's border. Max I got was 32 before getting completely outnumbered and demolished.
Thematically it's alright. Honestly I'm clueless how to rate games properly following the theme this time around. A lot of submissions seem to be of games that don't really change in genre but on the other hand are a mashup of different games. So in that regard I'd say it's pretty well thought out.
Audio is sparse, if a bit lacking, but it's never crossing the line of being annoying. For a jam game that's a huge success in on itself.
tl;dr this is a very fleshed out submission, very polished and cohesive in what it's trying to be from start to finish.
Amazing! Good use of the theme. I guess everything has already been said, but I'll add that I wish the camera would give you more of a good look on the situation.
How in the world were you guys able to create such complex assets within this much time! That's insane, this game looks like it's ready for market. It looks super polished both gameplaywise and graphicswise. If I were to point something out, it would be music. For me it was just too agressive. I know that you guys had that kind of vibe through out the project, and I respect that you followed your guidelines, that makes a game very unified. However if something is bugging players even within the style of your game, than I'd say it shouldn't be there... unless you are making a troll game than it's more than welcome haha ! No but seriously guys it's not that big of a deal, but I'd consider some more delicate tunes next time. Overall project looks amazing
The camera makes things a bit harder than it should be, but overall this is amazing! Everything about it is well polished. This is probably the most well made game I've played this jam. Great job!
Looks amazing! I would like the option to select classic snake controls (instead of tank controls).
its a great combination!
This is fantastic. Such a great looking game!
Neat mix of genres. It's challenging to move and avoid walls while picking up things, the snake gameplay while also aiming at enemies and keeping them from shooting you. The graphics are looking great, good job there. I had problems with the camera at times where it wouldn't turn the way I wanted to. Also enemies would spawn behind me and shoot at me without me being able to do anything. That's a problem in general, most of your body can't dodge and later on in the game that's a big problem in general.
Sometimes the environment was tricky as I was not sure where I can go and where not. Fortunately this type of game is the one I like to come back to and spend some time with and I need to admit that this is catchy. Really nice entry. Great job!
This was really polished and fun!
Wow, im so conflicted on this one. On one end, its amazingly polished and well made art, audio, models etc and i get that you wanted to go crazy (the note on top of the entry), but as a WEBGL player, this game runs like garbage :'( good job on the game itself though, it looks amazing!
Really impressive, and fun too!
Whoa. Awesome game. Pretty, fun, sounds great too!! If this is mobile-friendly, you can just drop it in the Play Store for a price and I'll buy it to play on my phone.
Thanks for releasing the source code, I could learn a bunch from you guys!
It's a really well designed game with a lot of juice to it. Hard hitting sound effects which sell the action, and all of the art, the music, and the environment blends well to sell that.
Extremely impressive. Controls are tight, camera works well with the player, gameplay naturally makes the game harder and harder the more you progress, everything looks and feels well polished, and the game itself gives off a very fast paced vibe to match the fast paced gameplay. There's not much to say about this title that hasn't already been fawned over by the comments above, this is just one very well designed and well polished title. This will definitely be one of the top titles for the jam.
5 stars, one of the most polished entry in this jam.
First of all, congratulations for the game, the art is fantastic and the sound is epic. AAA game? Second, I think you can put the more cartoon textures, that would make the game even better.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape
WOW! This is amazing for a 72 hour game jam! Respect!
Very cool graphics, nice music, great sound effects. The idea is really something different, full on hitting the target I must say. A snake shooter is really two in compatible mechanics and it is also really fun to play!
I think it is awesome what you did in this short amount of time. Everything looks and feels just great. You get the polish trophy in this LD!
Great job, keep up the good work :-)
By the way, length 20 and score 7860 is what I got :-)
Wow! By far the best game I have played until now! This was fun! :D Keep up the good work!
Amazing game! Really polished, with stunning graphics and smooth gameplay. The music fits very well too. I have nothing to complain about this. Good job!
Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional
Awesome game! Very impressive graphics. The music fits the game very well. Very good pacing and game feel. The camera and the controls feels a bit weird to me. I think that is a little hard to tell which objects we can interact with(enemies, obstacles etc) and which we can't.
Great game! =)
awesome, i really enjoyed it!
This is a great game! There are a few annoying glitches here and there, but nothing game breaking (mostly just the gun shooting on its own, and having to click to toggle it off). Everything feels smooth, the game is juicy, and the sounds all fit together. Nice work!
