Those are some of the best looking particle effects this Ludum Dare!
Very interesting idea, relaxing gameplay and by far my favorite combination of gameplay and soundtrack. Nice to see some love for science in this very fun way!
By the way, don't photons move in a waveform? ;-)
The graphics look good, but could you perhaps make the background a little darker? The foreground blend in with the background just a little too much, besides that small nitpick you did a great job :)
Very nice aesthetic! This is an absolutely handsome game ;-)
I didn't know what to expect. The game went well above everything I could have expected. If this game gets arrow and WASD support, I'd love to play it with friends.
Link?
edit: it's fixed now so my comment isn't really relevant anymore
Looks cool! Somehow reminds me of the board game Cluedo. Good job guys.
It was very cute, kind of hard though. The ducky got sad :-(
@spinaljack Which operating system are you using? I didn't have any trouble collecting any crystals. I'd like to look into this.
@gumboot thanks, I'll see if I could implement a better tutorial along the next bug fix
Thank you all for the feedback, I'll update the game soon.
@spinaljack I have found a bug that softlocks the game which makes it seem like a crystal is not collected and pauses the game until you quit it. If this is not what you've experienced, I'm afraid I'll have to wait for more reports until I can fix the bug you've encountered.
@xavier-indie-gamedev I don't know which version of mac you're using but my mac automatically blocks software from unknown developers. To fix this you have to try to open the software, go to system preferences-> 'safety and security' or something and then you can give the permission to open the software.
I have some screenshots but my computer is in Dutch, so keep them merely as a visual reference to the steps I gave earlier Schermafbeelding 2017-04-28 om 19.29.58.png Schermafbeelding 2017-04-28 om 19.30.06.png Schermafbeelding 2017-04-28 om 19.30.12.png
@philomory Thank you, I'll try to add mouse functionality.
@stoemason yeah, I'm aware of this bug. It's going to be fixed in the next update.
Hey guys, I fixed the problems! Please report anything else that's not working well.
@kristian-david Thank you! What operating system are you using? The cursor doesn't do that on my mac and I'd like to look into this. Also, what kind of bugs did you come across?
EDIT: I fixed the cursor
@kristian-david thank you for the report. I'll buff the resolution of the text next patch and I'll see what I can do to further improve collision detection.
@mrchippy Crystals weren't supposed to be collectable in the air (since you wouldn't really have any reason to land otherwise). So make sure you're always landing or standing when you want to collect a crystal.
@m-1 it has to do with the speed of unity raycasts. The raycasts detect the players own collider. I haven't fixed it yet because I wanted to release a patch as quick as possible, so people could enjoy playing the game more. I'll definitely fix it in the next version.
@spaceman you have to land to collect crystals
@manolo-rei thank you very much :-) I didn't know, while working on the game, that so many people would struggle with the controls. I tried to improve them as much as possible in the updated version and due to the deadline being a bit too close for comfort, I rushed the UI.
Clever little toy :-)
Nice game! I liked it.
Looks very good. Unfortunately I can't play this on my mac :-(
I'm very fond of this game. I had a good time playing this.
I found some things though: Schermafbeelding 2017-04-28 om 19.02.19.png As you can see one of the people has kind of bugged out after he left a building. I also noticed that you (probably) used MoveTowards() for the bullets. This led to the bullet stopping in mid air once it reached the mouse position. You really have to keep your cursor far out if you want to shoot the UFOs.
I think you did a great job, congrats :-)
edit: it runs great on mac btw
Looks good! Had a bit of trouble moving around, but the game is overall well made :-)
Definitely a one of the most enjoyable games of LD. A short experience but a great one. Agar.io meets metroid fusion, with a bit of science thrown into the mix. The SAX from metroid fusion would be proud of that Black Star. Congrats on making such a good game. :-)
This is amazing! It was very fun to play. Though, it felt a bit weird that I couldn't use large asteroids to destroy smaller ones.
This game has a great atmosphere! Good job.
The graphics remind me of Parappa the rapper. I couldn't quite get used to the controls though :-)
Very cute. The game is a little.. short? However, it is good in design and absolutely adorable :-)
I've seen a lot of adorable games this LD and this one has to be way up there on the adorable scale! Those damned neighbours!
Haha this is great. You guys have to show this to Mike. Your game is like a weapon against https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/ludum-dare-dot-com A very cool project guys and it's also comedy gold!
I suck at your game, but I can see it's well made. It's a clever idea and would make a great mobile app. Some advice though: could you perhaps add the option to change music/sound effect volume? The explosion were very loud compared to the music.
This is very funny and impressive. I am mainly impressed by how unique and well defined your art style is. It's nice to see something like that in a jam. Well done.
Is this completely done in Java?
Very adorable game. Easy to pick up and understand, yet challenging once you reach the later levels. One thing that was off though: you can't jump when standing on an enemy. Good job though.
Nice work!
I'm interested in your game. Perhaps you can post some gameplay footage as temporary solution to the lack of keyboard controls.
Could you perhaps make a mac version? Either that or maybe upload a gameplay video. I'm interested to check your game out.
I'll play the mac version when it's uploaded :-)
Very cute. Might I ask how the ghost died though? D-:
That's a very cute cat. The cat is enough to win me over! Great cat -> great game ;-)
I'm sorry, but could you please put the controls to the game on your Ludum Dare page? I tried to play this but had a hard time figuring out the controls. I'd like to wait with my feedback until I have properly played the game :-)
From what I've seen on YouTube, it looks good. The slimes are adorable! I will give it a shot when you finish the mac or web version.
I just finished playing. The game feels really good to play. First round I shot everything on sight (oops), but after that it went pretty well. I got a good chance to see all the beautiful effect you put in the game. You did a very good job! :-)
I think this counts though. You guys didn't make final fantasy but you did make a sort of Player vs Game game.. I guess? I don't know if it counts but I do think it's cool. Good work guys :-)
The art looks very cute.
It looks interesting. I can't play this on a mac though unfortunately :-(
This is a very funny game and it has something more LD games need: the option to make text appear faster. Good job to you and your team. :-)
You're welcome :-)
Cute game with a cute story. Some song lyrics here and there and a soundtrack that suits the game. Good job, but you might consider adding a sprint button. I didn't know how to progress at a point and the slow moving character made it hard to talk to everything.
I love dogs, but can't play this on a mac. Could you perhaps link some gameplay footage so I can still give some feedback?
A good looking game this is! I'm not quite good at it though. It felt like a very unique version of whack-a-mole :-)
That was cute
That was fun and cute
Could you post a link to some gameplay footage? I would like to give you some feedback but I can't play the game on my mac.
The game looks very nice. I can't say much else though, since I'm a mac user D-:
I very much like the idea. It's a very hard game and I couldn't clear it, but it is a very neat concept!
I'd like to leave some feedback but there is no mac version available. Could you perhaps link some gameplay footage? :-)
Nice unexpected ending!
I didn't keep track of it. I guess I played between 5 and 10 minutes. I'm sure it wasn't longer than 15. I liked how I had to map the place in my head. I even tried my hardest to break the game and beat it in unintended ways, but it shows that you (probably) tried this as much as I did, since the game is solid in preventing abuse of the sloped decorations.
It might not seem like much, but in a game jam most of the players are also devs so we know where to look for flaws. I have found ways to get around gameplay mechanics in some LD games already, but yours is solid!
I loved it. Too bad I got stuck since I couldn't sell/destroy/delete rooms though :-(
Very fun
Very nice. I'm not that good at this game but it was cool to see how if an arrow, it could still orbit around and hit some enemies. That's a great idea! Good job on the game, I liked it :-)
link not working
It's a cute idea and very fun to play once you understand it. I stopped playing when I got the hang of it, but enjoyed the time I had spend on it. Since everyone is posting links to their game I'll do the same: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/icarus-isolation
This gave me a hard time, but it was fun
Sorry, I'm no OSX expert either (though I am a user). However, I'll still leave some feedback if you could link me to some gameplay footage!
This made me want to eat cereal. Now I've seen a good game and crave for cereal.
Love the concept
Looks great, fun to play. Good job!
This looks great. A nice idea and cool visuals. I discovered this game through the trailer and it seemed like a cool game, so I came to check it out. Good job guys :-)
This looks very cute :-)
I like how fast paced it was! I was surprised how high in the air I spawned and the camera was a bit buggy (field of view changing very much while sprinting and camera position acting snappy). The controls were very responsive and everything gave a lot of audio feedback which is a very important part of game design, I can very much respect that. Good job guys, also good to see you're fixing things based on feedback.
This is a sweet idea, a bit difficult, but very sweet! I'd like to see a cat in this game though. This game definitely needs at least one cat ;-)
Fun idea, if only more devs would put themselves to avoiding soda ;-)
Very fun and relaxing. You did a good job. Is it possible to return to the game selection screen without reloading the page?
Wow that was impressive. Very cute and funny game this is! Well done :-)
I like this, but might I have your take on how this follows the theme? I might be looking at your game the wrong way. If I have your perspective, I could maybe rate your game higher for 'theme'. I understand how the story follows the theme, but has the blue word mechanic got something to do with the theme as well?
@mikomiKisomi thanks for clarifying. I thought I was making things worse by revealing more text because of the theme O_o
This is hard to control but fun to play. This would be a very nice multiplayer game.
Very well done. Nothing much besides that :-) great entry
Love your entry. It was very fun to play.
Very fun game! It was a good sort of frustrating. I liked it a lot and the music was nice.
Very fun game!
@blackatlas which OS are you running the game on? The web version runs smoothly and the Osx version is okay as well for as far as I can see.
@blackatlas I will look into it and patch it when the post-compo stress fades.
for anyone wanting to try my game. To prevent lag: SET RESOLUTION TO 1440x900 AND QUALITY TO SIMPLE TO PREVENT LAG I'll work on a better solution after getting some rest.
@nozomu thank you for the nice comment. In the patch I've added some arrows that imply that you can wall jump at certain points. I hope that helps.
@Cubeeo could you go into more detail please?
@Ionthas the levels are randomly arranged (slowly increasing in length). Do you think a short tutorial level might also solve the problems you've encountered? If not, do you have better suggestions?
@Ithildin you are right on the z-axis thing, but all gold pieces are reachable. I can ensure you that.
@kyle-pham thanks for the detailed comment. The game mechanics are entirely based upon the theme (using your sword more = sword and shield getting smaller, more health = worse mobility, more gold = obstacles spawn into the level). If you still think the game doesn't fit the theme, I, of course, respect that. As for the controls I'd have to see someone play the game in a video to fully understand what people have such a hard time with (for people who thought it was too slippery I've added a 'crouch stops momentum' mechanic in patch 1.3). As far as my post-compo patches go: I have made clear which version is which and state, out of fairness, that people should judge the compo version. :-)
@mase I considered that (your movement suggestion) but I'd like to very specifically see what the problem is before I do that, since I don't have a problem with the deceleration. I know other people might. Before changing that I want to 'understand' people's troubles with it. Just 'knowing' it might result in me repeating the problem next compo. Last compo I received complaints about controls as well but didn't understand it. Therefore I didn't learn what I did wrong. I think it is because I put too much depth into player control and mechanics which in turn creates a learning curve not suited for a game people will only probably play for a few minutes. If that makes any sense :p
@TechnoNugget thank you for playing the compo version :-) when playing patch 1.3, you can press down (crouch) to stop all momentum.
@BryceLTaylor The random arranger was a sacrifice I had to make. If I didn't put it in the game, I'd have to waste too much time on level-design and probably only have time to create 3 unique levels. If this was a commercial product I'd agree with you. I hope you can understand why I made this decision. :-)
@arron-fowler thank you for the comment. Which version were you playing and how was the frame rate when you encountered the bug?
@arron-fowler bad frame rate often causes problems when using raycasts in unity. You can get around this by implementing a slowdown mechanic to replace frame skip... Didn't have time to implement this so I just patched the game to get rid of the lag. I don't really experience any frame drops in the current web version (and I have a lot of tabs open in chrome at all times). Could I ask you what browser you were using?
@arron-fowler I see. Good luck with upgrading your gear man :-)
@Moski thank you for your detailed comment. In your screenshot the block is slightly higher than the grass covered platform. I must've placed it slightly too high... When you're level with small enemies they are within reach though (minor but stupid mistake sorry). I have solved the leap of faith thing in an upcoming patch!
Looks very cute :-)
itch link doesn't work
Just played it. Poor octopus man has it hard. The sound design was good and the gameplay is easy to understand. Well done.
Nice game! Plays really well. Feels like space invaders meets contra.
Fun concept. Well made given the time you had. :-)
Nice audio and graphics. Well done.
Great concept and game. Didn't like the options but of course this wouldn't be a problem for people who can relate more to Jack.
Cute little game. Very fun but I'd like to have some kind of score or something. Well done.
I'm impressed by the artwork! Did you make it during the jam? Very well done :-) (Also if you keep hugging a wall, you won't fall. Idk if that's a feature or not)
@mase Ah yeah I totally understand :-/ Good luck with the fix :-)
Very cool game. This is a strong entry... Though if you make sure you're always close to a wall and shoot in the direction of that wall, you can kinda just stand still and farm score. Idk if anyone has found this trick yet, but you can prevent player from playing cheap by adding moving stage hazards or something.
Great game! It's very challenging and well build. Good job :-)
It's a nice start to something that could become a full game. Still a bit too rough for me right now. You did a good job :-)
Also it's really easy to clip out of bounds by exploiting the respawn mechanic: Schermafbeelding 2017-12-20 om 10.53.57.png
You did a good job on this :-)
So simple yet so addicting! Good playing experience and great music. Add some more letters and you might just make a good buck if you publish it on the mobile market.
Nice idea, only got 92% :-(
Very nice visuals! I didn't quite understand what the goal was so I just grabbed a lot of powerups and admired the graphics.
Oh, sorry. I tried shooting, but I didn't spot the health bar at all. I'm still a bit tired from 48h of working I guess :-)
I want to play this on a handheld. This is a very cute and fun game.
This game is very loud... *correction* my keyboard is very loud and this game amplifies that. Very fun game though!
Well done! I enjoyed this :-)
Very fun concept. Could see myself getting addicted to this if it was a mobile app. Also, is it possible to lose in this? I lost 15 boxes at one point and it was kind of unclear to me as to when the game would be over.
My favorite game so far :-) would definitely play this again if an expanded version got released.
This game was cool. It could really benefit from some audio!
Well done! A very weird but fun game.
It was sort of weird since I didn't understand how to win or lose but this game was fun!
Cool game! it looks good and it's very responsive. I got 70 points.
This feels very well made. A fun and creative little game. You did a real good job on this.
Very smooth gameplay and nice sound design. The game froze on me though when going from one room to another. There is also one location where it's very easy to get stuck in:
Schermafbeelding 2017-12-07 om 21.11.59.png
The music got to me before I could master the controls. I also got stuck on the round platform :-(
(if you used unity to make this game, you could recompile the web version till it works. That worked for my broken web build at least)
I like tower defense games a lot and this is a solid one. Sad to say I didn't really see how this fit LD40 and the lack of audio feedback from the turrets was also a bit disappointing. Other wise I'd say this is a well done game :-)
Nice to see the improvement the patch has provided :-)
I like playing this a lot. My laptop got very warm from all those orange thing but it was worth it!
This is a very interesting idea. Well done :-)
If you play the game for more than a minute, the controls are easy to get used to. Was very invested in beating at least one level but couldn't get past the second (I probably could but I gave up). This game is weirdly interesting. The strange music, colorful graphics and punishing gameplay would go great along a very dark/serious story to accompany the levels. It is a difficult platformer I'd be happy to complete if it had something like that. Very well done. I am very interested in this.
This idea is excellent! Wish I could play more but I get too easily frustrated by these kind of games.
Cool idea. The second half was too easy because you could just fly over the level but I like what you were going for :-)
Fun little game. Good job! :-)
itch link is dead
This is a very cute game. Nicely executed with a simple and clean art style. A good made relaxing experience. Well done.
Good game. It's a bit too easy to farm kills though. I stood still at an ammo spawn point moved a bit back and forth (only a few steps) and held the shoot button. Got aroun 10K points, lost no health and then quit. Maybe you could add more enemy types in future patches to prevent this.
You did a good job! The itch page looks very professional. Well done.
The physics are quite enjoyable, the camera movement is very smooth and the controls are easy and responsive. Good job on that. The music on the other hand was rather... interesting?
Tried playing the web version. It's just a white screen for me with "ocean cleanup" in text at the bottom. (using google chrome on a macbook)
Works perfectly fine now! The movement feels very unique and the ocean changing color was a nice detail. Though I think some ocean sound effects might have suited the game better than that tune. You have provided a solid entry to LD. Well done :-)
Now this is good game design. I love this mechanic! The art kind of reminds me of a Nintendo Switch indie game of which I forgot the name.
Fun little game. I ended up in a similar situation to deathray's too quick though. Well done :-)
Great looking game (kind of reminded me of original DS games). Gameplay was a little bit too easy and with no real goal or interaction besides shooting up enemies, I got bored quickly. The borders of the map are also a little strangely placed and decorated but overall I enjoyed the experience :-)
I like the atmosphere. Playing the game was a little rough but the effort shows! :-)
Nice game. Could see this working on mobile :-)
Very fun game! You expressed the theme better than anyone imo.
The game looks great. It's interesting to see that I'm not the only one who went into the gold collecting direction.
This is amazing. This is my favorite game so far.
From what I could see this was nice. Though I really recommend reuploading to itch with a smaller aspect ratio. Such a big game window is sadly almost unplayable :-(
This looks really great and plays really well. Your game is like luftrausers with nice graphics. Great entry.
This was fun. Interesting idea that might shine brighter after some polish. It felt more like "the worse it is, the more you get". So it was kind of a reversed version of the theme.
Also: Schermafbeelding 2017-12-20 om 10.06.11.png
Stood still, put up a YouTube video and then: Schermafbeelding 2017-12-20 om 10.27.03.png
Could've kept it running for hours.
This is solid.
It is what it is and you made it in two hours. That's great considering the time pressure.
Veery good. Enjoyed it
@sylvie the game would lack any challenge without a limited amount of jumps though, as for the shrinking inventory: I think it encourages fast play even when you don't care about highscores. I'd say the theme works well as long as this game keeps the small scaled levels
@omniorcus your comment reminds me that I never introduced the pause menu to the player. Pressing 'p' gives you the option to go back to the main menu.
@omniorcus yeah, if only it did. The moving platform bug doesn't occur in the Unity editor so it was too hard to fix during compo time.
@mowztouch I explain how the game is based on the theme quite thoroughly in "inspiration and theme" in the section above.
@tiba every level is beatable without jumping. The point is more that jumping can be used to get puzzle pieces or to take shortcuts. The shrinking inventory is supposed to make you think about which pieces to grab and in which order.
@crafty-mine thank you :smile:
@mza Thanks, which level and which point exactly?
@mza if you do, please send me a screenshot of where you got stuck.
@lonehearts Well done and thanks for the feedback. I'll link you to the prizes in a bit. Btw the fact that your background image is complete proves that you have collected all puzzle eggs.
@lonehearts The prizes have been unlocked! Well done
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/easter-shabobble/prize-delivery
@historymaker118 check the description for theme explanation. Also I made a time lapse of the process: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/easter-shabobble/prize-delivery
As for the puzzle eggs, it is possible to collect them all in one (fairly fast) run if you plan your back-and-forth-trips accordingly. The first run through the game could be used to locate the eggs and the second to collect them very fast or you could choose to completely ignore them. The purpose of them is merely so that there is some more dynamic gameplay in this game that (intentionally) lacks any hardcore challenges. There was also the thought that 'Easter Eggs' should be hidden, but it would be infuriating for casual players if the pink eggs were hidden and they couldn't progress the level because of it. If you can't find the puzzle eggs, you can still clear the level. If you want to find the puzzle eggs it will be more of a challenge but you will get a reward.
Anyway, that's the design philosophy behind it. I'm glad you enjoyed the game
@kapiteinkoekwous Ik zou het zelf ook erg leuk vinden om met dit project verder te gaan
@mza I added invincibility to the player upon dashing to make the game more forgiving, but forgot to add a graphical effect to it.
@mza the side artwork is a technique I use to ensure that every aspect ratio gets the same experience btw. It is excellent to prevent unexpected results when publishing both a web and desktop version.
@vekstr thank you for playing my game. The puzzle eggs unlock puzzle pieces in the main menu
@occultone thank you for playing  I also encountered that bug once but couldn't reproduce it. Thanks for reporting it, now I know the cause.
@george-lancaster what prevented you from dropping the eggs?
@george-lancaster the text in the circle says: "press Q to drop". Not a problem though, guess you missed it
@martintristan Thank you for your comment  The story behind the shrinking inventory is up to the players
@lu7cie the image on the main menu gets exposed once you have all the eggs. The puzzle you're completing is the background of the main menu.
Note: in the video above you can notice that my puzzle is missing some pieces.
@bismark that may be true, but they have a rather great weakness: laying them on their backs in a certain way induces a short term coma. Vicious from the front, powerless from behind.
Guess I should also include a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMQmoQH5lFU
@bbaf could you provide me a screenshot of where you got stuck. I designed each location to be soft lock proof. Please tell me if I missed something.
I enjoyed the gameplay. I'd be excited to see more levels.
Couldn't play the game. Mouse cursor keeps appearing out of the game screen and fullscreen doesn't work. Playing on a mac in google chrome.
This is really well polished. Well done.
Nice game, I didn't see the theme expressed but it was enjoyable.
Very solid
This is solid. A bit janky at times but very fun.
Solid. well done
Well done. Definitely very original for a LD entry.
A bit hard to control but very well made
This is unplayable on my end. Game runs fine but the game window is just too big. Even at full screen, I can't see the right part of the game window. (google chrome, macbook pro)
This is great from a technical aspect! If all your other planned ideas were implemented and there would be a way to replenish ingredients, I'd see myself playing this more often.
This is lovely, so let me give you some golden tips:
- to preserve the aesthetic angle while giving clear depth to falling blocks, you could have the row of the falling block slightly turn a different color. The player can then compare the path of the block to their own instead of hoping they guessed correctly in which rows the blocks are falling. - upon landing, reset the velocity to (0,0,0) to get rid of sliding rigidbodies. My character was slowly sliding among the x-axis even though I wasn't pressing any buttons. - fix the jump. It's not all that reliable for the player but necessary to overcome some obstacles.
well done
I like games like this so I'm sold. Only problem is how the walls sometimes bounce the player around.
The controls need some work but it's well on its way.
This was a very enjoyable experience.
Great entry. Nice physics and screenshake, though the enemies wouldn't spawn in on my end the first two times I tried to play the game.
@mza I mean the enemies didn't spawn at all the first two time (neither did comets). The tutorial text was already gone though so I did finish the tutorial. Upon my third time loading the game I had no issues though.
Gameplay needs some polish. The sound, graphics and concept are solid though.
Very nice. Enjoyed this.
Very well done. Only two points: - I couldn't rate for audio (would've liked to rate high if you guys made all audio files yourselves) - I wouldn't have minded less detailed character sprites if they were animated (even 8 fps would've been plenty)
Schermafbeelding 2018-08-24 om 22.02.58.png
Lovely and peaceful game. Would've liked more goals in the form of story, upgrades or anything. If you get up to something like in the screenshot, it gets a bit boring. However everything else is great.
Very nice this is perfect as is. Though you should increase the maximum position you can move to the right. You have a lot of control a to where you'll drop a sushi on the left side but not so much on the right side. I got a score of 1210.
Nicely done. Only got a score of 870.
Great game. Solid.
The idea to this game is present, the game itself however is a little rough around the edges. Reading up on some level design theory would be highly beneficial for this game.
A great concept. Though some balancing may be required. Some of the colliders were a bit too big for the models they were attached to. You might also want to add some sound to movement. Your graphics portray rocket boosters of some sort but your audio doesn't reflect that. Hope this helps
Great entry, it got a little laggy on my computer. During the lag I sometimes lost control and encountered audio glitches. I'm running your game on chrome.
Nice entry. Fits the theme well.
Very well made. Would like to see more of this in the future.
Good game, would be nice to see some balancing by adjusting the difficulty ramp. Maybe start with 2-3 easy levels a progress into more and more challenging levels.
Very nice. Sometimes it gets a bit finicky but I love this concept.
This game is sweet. Would love to see this game with more challenging levels.
Well done. All previous comments did a good job of portraying the pros and cons of this game, so I don't have much else to add to that.
A very fun little game. Would have liked to see the simple player sprite a little more animated as to better fit his surroundings (the grass moves, dust on the ground moves, the edges of the stage move, the goals move, yet the player is completely static). I beat the unbeatable level btw
Also a shorthop and a less heavy character would be great.
@nam-nguyen This game is a good example of how you could really make a simple square shaped character come to life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BheVQ_6qbo
@nam-nguyen you have a great mentality towards game development. I wish you the best of luck
Well done.
It's a great idea that deserves to be explored. The game itself is a little rough around the edges but you did well. My character flies to the right and his velocity won't reset, not even upon respawning btw.
Very great game! Would've played this on my DSi back in the day
@fat-cat I think you missed the point haha. It costs an apple to press 'e'. Also, killing sheep is merely meant to distract the wolf. If you kill a sheep, the wolf will be attracted by the body and will therefore not attack you (even if you get near him). And sheep don't respawn, they die.
Thanks for the feedback :-)
@twopm Thanks, I'm glad you were so invested. It pains me to see that broken piece of UI in the top right of your screen haha :sheep:
@fnissalot Thank you ^^ was it long and difficult in a good way or would you've like the game to be shorter and easier?
@fnissalot That's some good feedback. The sheep always run directly away from you, but in hindsight they should be a little bit biased to walk towards your destination.
@pandan Thank you very much ^^ I was running out of time so I made on big how-far-can-you-get level instead of multiple levels. It would be great though to make many different levels each with unique challenges :-)
@kantieno Oh that isn't supposed to happen! Was the game lagging while this glitch occurred? Thank you for the feedback ^^
@kantieno No problem, thanks for the insight :-)
Thanks for the nice comments, guys! It seems some of you have noticed my time budgeting on the music side but clearly the spare time for modeling and animating has been appreciated :-)
I'll see if I can find some time this weekend to create a version that fixes the disappearing mouse, adds optional inverted camera controls and camera sensitivity changes. I'll make sure this version will be clearly separated from the compo version like I did in previous LDs. ^^
Also special thanks to @smurf @denifia @gaming-night for giving the best comments ever haha.

@flashviper ouch, missed that one :smirk_cat:
This looked pretty cute! well done.
Feels great, leaves much to be desired in terms of content and functionality, but that's a good start
Some feedback points: - You shouldn't be able to clip through walls. - View of the player model should be obstructed less by walls. - Take away control of the player when they touch the goal (so they can't lose after they've won).

Imprisoned the fox
I'd suggest thinking about it for 5 more minutes. You forgot to program one crucial constraint almost every game needs. --- If you're ready for the answer, read on ahead:
Players should not be allowed to spawn objects on spawn points! I just spammed rabbit sacrifices without moving and got some pretty funny trippy stuff to happen  I hope you can take this advice with you in your next LD ^^
This was surprisingly great! Couldn't beat it though :-/
@dk5000p Okay, the song was worth it haha
Very cool idea. Respect for taking on such a design heavy concept in a game jam. Only thing this needs now, is some sound effects :)
I like cute dogs and mashing buttons so this was nice for me. Made it to 622.1
Link gives a 404
Very fun, would love to see more! It would be great if there were enemies or other elements that wouldn't be visible on the map. Pretty quickly I grew accustomed to only watching the map and having my side scrolling controls translated to topdown movement. Well done :)
This is a very nice base to a cute game! Some feedback:
- a minimap, an arrow around your player (think Kid Icarus Uprising) or a way to move the camera angle would go a long way in helping the player locate their enemies. - Of course: sounds and music
Great job!
This was very fun to play.
This is great. Everything here was executed beautifully. However, I do have some minor feedback:
- I cleared the last level in one try but gave up on the other levels after getting killed twice by my own impatience. The first two levels weren't challenging enough (causing me to accidentally seek my own death). For players like me, a boost button would be a nice feature. - Parallax scrolling stars (or a multi-layer scrolling background in general) would really add to the feeling of movement. At some of the resting parts of the levels, it really shows that the background isn't moving at all, which is a bit uncanny but not bothersome.
Very well made entry nevertheless
I lose after 5 seconds. I think I'm missing the point :open_mouth:
This is great. Only feedback I have is that there could be some music and that restarting levels should be a tiny bit faster. Well done
Many things seemed to be made very well in this game. Though, I must say that the web version is completely unplayable and should be omitted. It's too dark to see anything most of the time and the audio is glitched.
I like the idea of this. If this had short, simple and funny cutscenes along with some more decorated levels, it could become a good educational game.
This is such a charming game! I enjoyed this :)
@duke Waiting basically is the game. I wanted to try something completely different from the platforming games I've been making most LDs ^^
It's more of a very weird garden designing simulator thing than a game really. There'd need to be a win condition or a lose condition for this to be a game.
@pcmaster you can only plant if time is not sped up
@mateusboga I didn't encounter that problem. What are your machine's specs?
@corny I fully agree that a tutorial is needed for this. Could you go into more detail about your experience with the controls?
Now, this is very nice! I love this take on stealth. I'd like this to be a little more challenging, but that's always something you could do in the future. Very well done :)
This is a really interesting idea. I had a difficult time playing this but the game clearly has potential to be fleshed out into a great product.
This was simply wonderful!
I like the idea. There was a lot of clipping and going out of bounds happening though. You did well on this entry though. My suggestion for next time:
- Look into the possibilities of Unity rigidbodies more (assuming you used Unity)
I like the direction this went. A lot of good thought behind this. It's a shame this was restricted by the jam's time limit.
This is solid. No other words for it.
This looks polished. I love the sound design, which is often overlooked!
This is one of my favourite LD games. The mechanic is fun and I finished all levels. The game looks a bit bare bones and it has no sounds, but man it sure is fun
A solid runner! The vibe is great thanks to the music. I disagree with how dark you chose the game to be though. It would be easier to differentiate the background and foreground (even some of the UI elements) if you did a revision on the colors/brightness.
Solid take on the theme and a well polished execution. well done
Cool idea. Game is solid, sound design wasn't that pleasant unfortunately. Well done either way :)
Very nice artwork. The attack animation should be a bit faster but I respect what this game was going for.
This is very creative, well done!
Schermafbeelding 2019-10-17 om 14.29.39.png
Very good. I got 84 candies. It might be a bit better if the camera could be a bit farther to the right.
This game is very nice. I guess some more sfx for everything and a more unique art style are the only things still missing. Solid entry!
I had some funny moments where I got stuck forever and the dog flew into space
ldgl.gif ldlld.gif
Though I think you set a great vibe in the first level! Though I kind of lost that vibe after finding the kick button. I think a more powerless character would go better with the spooky style and sound design. Well done on your entry
This is very well done. Writing's good, sfx sound fitting, music is good and does not feel repetitive and the visual don't distract from the experience.
Very good, would download this if it came to iOs
I love the depth of this game, the visuals (mainly the font used, font sizes, font colors) and sound leave a bit to be desired. It was great fun playing it though eventually it froze on me (probably missed an error, scan your code for possible null pointers). I think having the volume and/or pitch correlate to your current movement speed will make the most common sound during gameplay a bit more natural. You completed a lot of stuff in a short time, congrats!
@purpledartfrog Nah, I meant scan manually
Cool game. The look and feel are great!
Surprisingly fun game. The score system is nice, but the real fun is trying to complete your car. Well done!
Great humor that doesn't pull punches, though it would've been greater if the writing was tidied up a bit (I take it you're not a native English speaker). Also: there is no value fighting people again if you know the perfect route to their defeat; checkpoints would've been great. Well done!
Good job. Reminds me a lot of when I started making games using a tool called GameSalad. good vibes :v:
@pilarius thanks for the heads up. I haven't gotten around to it yet but I am planning to make a better effort into getting people to rate my game dw
Fun idea, needs to be balanced a bit more.
The title of your game makes it all the more taunting. Nice entry!
@leorid If I understand it correctly: you're asking me how I tackled enemy paths, right? I put up way points at every corner, once an enemy reaches those corners, they chose the next possible corner to move towards. They will never fall back though. They will always try to progress towards the castle.
@GeraldFIngBurke Thank you. Are you referring to the movement of the search lights when you say 'random' or something else?
@GeraldFIngBurke I see, that makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately I don't like my game enough to find the motivation to make another patch but I'll definitely take your advise with me for future projects.
@Lumos could you go into more detail? On my MacBook (nowhere near gaming pc stats) I get decent performance. Only in stealth sections do I get 30-60 fps. Inside the Unity editor I had a drop to14 or 20 a couple of times.
If you would mind telling me your OS and where you ran into performance issues, it would help me out a lot. Thanks :-)
@Lumos Thanks for the response. I've heard about firefox screwing with unity games before.
@those-30-ninjas thanks for the feedback. I fully agree. I wanted to give some audio feedback but unfortunately hadn't the time to do so. :-( that's LD I guess
@paulhocker are you talking about frame rate or something else? Either way, would you mind going into more detail about what the problem was in your experience? thanks :-)
@SecretPocketCat thanks for the feedback. I knew about the run animation but hadn't the time to fix it (it was my first time using the Unity Animator component instead of the Animation component). Your last point is very good, topdown could've been more effective indeed.
Cool idea!
Best one I came across so far
Well done, reminds me a lot of the game 'Shotgun Funfun'.
Very good concept for a game.
This was very hard but I found it enjoyable for a short while. The music killed the experience for me though.
Nice idea, the platforming could use some work.
Interesting idea. Well done :-)
Very fun, hard to play for slow readers like me ;-)
I liked it very much. This has been one of the higher ratings I've given this LD.
Very fun, graphics support the game's feel and it fits the theme. I'd say make this an e-sport!
Very funny social experience, though the gameplay got boring quickly.
Very fun idea
Nice little game. This mechanic has potential.
I really liked the difficulty and concept. It could have a bit more content but it's a good base for a game.
This is a nice game. Short and sweet.
The most fun game this LD.
Very ambitious to take on a design heavy genre for LD. Good execution, solid entry. Well done
@Talops I agree, cheers.
Very fun game but the right side stopped spawning blocks and I could only play on the left side.
Great idea. Would be nice to see this fleshed out some more. :-)
Cool idea, not a fan of the controls though.
Solid game. well done
Cool idea, nice gameplay, solid entry. Well done.
Fits the theme well. Nice job.
Fun idea, a bit too fast and unresponsive for me though.
