Awesome game, probably one of the best I've tried yet from this LD! It had everything, perfect for the theme, looked and felt fantastic and was truly fun to play. Great game, good job mate!:)

webGL version (didn't get to even start playing)-> ``` Out of memory. If you are the developer of this content, try allocating more memory to your WebGL build in the WebGL player settings. ```
This is really, really well done. There are some bugs (I got stuck on the boss level) but the writing, camera work, delivery, and progression of skills is amazing. Seriously, with some polish this could be great.
@brallex thank you! That means a lot to me! @adroitconceptions I will fix it, thank you for reporting!!
ok... guess it was just a loading screen memory leak.
* precise platforming + forced short time => :( for me not sure if it was the webGL or the game in general or me... but some of the levels were really hard. * Interesting use of the 'create stuff' gun... was odd that it only worked when shooting the outer walls and nothing else. * the spikes being the same color as everything else did make it hard to tell what was a spike a few times here and there. * the skip level didn't seem to work on every level... sometimes it just reloaded the current one.
@adroitconceptions Great feedback! The skip level doesnt register your click on time because I had too little time spare before automatically restarting the level. Everything else you said was just design choice, I guess it comes with more time, and also more time. Wait what? You are the guy writing 12 games in 12 weeks? The game Rewind was yours right? I remember checking out your blog and feeling much inspired by it. Thanks!
I do love the simple details in your game. Things like you can skip level, etc. The humour is just great. Rarely seen in games anymore :P
It's a bit weird to see a simple cube and then the perfectly magical orb. Other than that the game was fantastic. The progression in abilities was neat and allows for the puzzles to get more complex.
I really enjoyed the Tutorial level. The addition of a skip level option is nice, but I did click it twice thinking it was a respawn button. The boss level was fairly difficult and it seemed to go from a 4 difficulty to a 10.
@mukult Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed it! There are levels that I might can't pass anyway, and it is also important for me that people see everything
@aaranos Yes I understand. That's the difference between programmer art and Unity's particle system haha. The boss level used to be too easy so I tried to make it harder. I guess I went a bit overboard :(
@handle Oh I missed your feedback. Thanks, that is a known bug to me, but I wasnt able to fix on time. The problem is simple, you are on the other side of the edge collider, and cant get back in. Having a hard deadline really pushes the limits..
Nice controls good tutorial level told you how to play fun little game glad i found
Unbelievable!! So nice idea, and have a will tutorial and nice image! Cannot imagine this is done by one person!
I see some blackthornprod influence here, but you definitely made the game it's own. Nice mechanics and camera movement!
Great game! You intro has some great camera work, and the menu transitions are nice. Agree with a some of the other points but don't have too much else to add. Enjoyed it!
Very fun game! Nice job!
Nice entry! The building/breaking mechanic tied in really nicely with the spreading-effect, I'm a huge fan of how the tunnels close in behind you. The entire aesthetic is pretty cohesive, with the exception (that the person a few posts up mentioned) being the glowing, super high-def orbs. The grass moving was a nice touch. It was a little easy to accidentally kill yourself, I'd try to maybe have the player get pushed away from their own blocks instead of instantly dying. Great game overall, well done!
This game is put together really well, it's highly polished, the effects are really amazing. The environment really has life to it with the grass interaction. well, explained tutorials, nice abilities. the only thing i wish wasn't there was the delay when you use the Terra-former. Other than that it was a great experience.
Really cool game! You can utilize that mechanic in so many ways, so much potential there. I loved the main menu, and your humor is nice too. :D Better visual feedback on collision detection would be nice though. It's sometimes hard to say if you would touch the spikes or if the black matter would stop you from doing so.
A solid platformer with some unique mechanics. Weird growth is taking over the world and gives the sense of urgency instead of the classic timer. I liked the matter creation gun. It felt quite powerful as it could kill me if I used it too liberally and the fact that stuff grew from the created matter. I had to teach myself some trigger discipline to not kill myself so ofter. :D
I think waiting to revive after being killed is kind of unnecessary. In fact you might be encouraging the use of skip level button because you get back into game much faster pushing it. You could invert this, so that when you die you get button to restart instantly and if you wait 3 seconds you get to skip the level.
Music is good on it's own, but I don't think it quite fits the games atmosphere. It feels too pumpy somehow. Something calmer might go better. Otherwise sound effects are okay. Currently the music just dominates the audio too much.
Texts in the later levels were sometimes out of screen.
I think the unique mechanics makes this game stand out more than it would normally do. Pretty solid entry.
I love the colors and the mood! Camera was very smooth and I love the death messages!
@frontlinesaint @hdmmy @cristihkj @hammers @dialglex Im glad you guys liked the game. It is still a bit buggy, know I know the importance of extensive play testing.
@hyprgloo thanks to point out, yes I was basically putting all the best thing I could to one game, no matter how they are related to each other haha
@extrone I wasnt happy with the timing too, it still feel unintuitive
@mortus Noted! Poor design choice T_T
@keppu thank you very much for all the feedback! I was really torn with the timing on the menu, kept going back and forth. I didn't think of what you suggested though, but maybe the best option is to display skip button right in the game when player has died some time. That adds more to the troll as well as I could display it with chance, so if you dont skip, you dont know when you can haha. Again, your feedback is very very valuable to me, thanks!
I love the way the levels are created. It looks great! The humour is spot on, and the graphics have a nice limbo/twisted shadow planet vibe.
PS: Not a cheater
A rage game!, the animations are really neat. Also love the camera work + commentary at the beginning, more of that please.
wow, this is really well made as well for in theme. I finish all the levels except the challenge one (still have to do.)
You have a bunch of great stuff in here for such minimal time. good work!
By far my favorite game of LD 42 so far. The graphics are beautiful and amazing, the gameplay simple and addictive, and the ambience ties together really well. Plus the "encouragement trolls" are a nice touch. Really can't identify anything that needs improvement. Excellent work!
A HUGE well done to you :) !! I was really pleasantly surprised by this game ! A mix of puzzler and timing, awesome ! The silhouette art style is great and that grass moving underfoot (+sound effect) is awesome, really ! I'm also really fond of those glowing orb like effects ! The one little downside for me is having to wait 3 seconds to restart, I know it's not much but it still feels a tiny bit annoying, especially once you die 5/6 times per level as I did :D ! So yeah all in all, a very solid LD entry, one of the top ones I've tried out so far ! Keep it up !
Good job but one problem I am very bad at these kinds of games.
very nice particles
Really nice game there, it's a common idea in this game jam but you added your spin to it, Since everything is black i've had a hard time identifying what could kill me or not, like the bounds. Good job man!
A very cool design, but be careful, in the firsts levels I thought the peaks that spawn from the wall will kill me, maybe a rounded design will be better to not confuse. Good job!
My 5 starts for the Mood. The treatment and execution are absolutely perfect. Dynamic move on the camera adds on the immersion feeling, and the simple character conveys a lot of emotion. Very well done sir!
Very elegant. you sure have empathy regarding how you made your game understandable and how you go can navigate throught menus and stuff. I like the step by step.
My favorite part of this game was the humor, especially the death screens. The GUI and graphics were elegant, nice touch making the grass move. If I could make one critique it would be to make the jumps higher, I had to try multiple times on the double jumps.
-> adding the "mario jump" ( by which when i give the up command if i release it i can short stop my jump and if i hold it I get like a frame or 2 more jump out of it)
-> Be careful about teaching through death
-> Momentum in movement
-> Feedback for when I am in a state that allows me to wall jump
-> In a training zone, do not remove text that is teaching me until, if you decide to remove it, I have performed the act properly.
-> Watch your difficulty level, I would tone it back already by about 30% remember that any time you add a time limit or create pressure on the player, it increases the difficaulty of any task 10 fold
That's awesome art and gameplay. I like how you implemented game tips.
@donitz I realized that people do pass that fairly easily LOL. I may have to learn to accept that haha
@josehzz Im glad you like it. Any idea how to add more of that? Im a big fan of stanley parable, responding to user's action and try to get in their mind. I also like to add hidden gems, but it does take a lot of time to think about where and when they should appear
@noa-calice Thanks for the feedback, it is a known problem, I have had suggestions to better solve that. If you think of making a video about UI, like what kind of input to be used (click button, press a key, not doing anything), I will be there!
@anstabo Thanks for letting me know, its a poor design choice. Should have added some color to that, like a bit white on top of the spike
@pinoza Thanks for the feedback, it is a technical problem, I probably need to add more to the tutorial and change the appearance of the spikes such as color to differentiate them
@ekilibr Im very glad to hear. Mood is probably the hardest thing to achieve, I did expect to have some moody elements, but definitely not thinking it would get a 5 for mood ever
@paulie-b Yes. I never made a platformer game before so I will pay attention next time!
Cool your game, I liked the gameplay and the concept of the screen closing, Great job
Really liked the sound. Overall it was pretty fun.
It's a really funny game, I loved the way that you can add terrain but the jump is a little bit short, even with double. Otherwise, it's a game with good graphics and humor ! :D
Very nice! The revive time grated on me after a while. I'm used to other similar games like Super Meat Boy, VVVVVV or Celeste, where you respawn pretty much immediately after death. The 3-second countdown was a bit too much, although the death messages were fun!
I love your game bro! The graphic is good, especially the particles are amazing! The concept is creative when you have the "gun"! When the screen is closing, the sprite look weird and I do not know if I could touch it or not, which make me feel quite confused when I played the game the first time. It could be more interesting and creative if your gun could create terrains even when shoot at anything in the level (not only the outer walls). This game is fun and challenging to play! One of the best game in LD42 so far! Congrats bro ^^
I accidentally posted my comment twice and can't figure out how to delete comments, so please ignore this one.
This game is so incredibly polished and has very fun gameplay. It's my favorite game from this Ludum Dare by far.
@zariel @void-productions @admiralspacekraken thank you!
@tontonpizza yeah intended to be precise jumping, but I learned the hard way that you have a false assumption about the difficuly of game levels as you play it over and over again during testing
@tungunity96 that was a poor design choice, but I learn from it. Thanks for the feedback! Growing from everthing else if very doable, but I will need more time to implement it, possible for an after jam
Really interesting game i like the gun mechanic and the introduction to the mechanics are quite well designed my only issue was jumping because you have double jumping and air control it's slightly more difficult to maneuver in the air using WASD id suggest putting jumping on spacebar or on the mouse otherwise one of my favourite games so far.
@tasty-jose thank you for playing and your feedback! The reason for not using space bar is that you have one hand on the keyboard and one hand on the mouse, then controlling both ASWD/ arrow keys AND space bar with one hand seems impossible. I have yet found a solution for this but I understand you concern, I didn't like jumping with the arrow key as well T_T
I liked it!
My favorite game thus far, sweet game mechanics. Nice and polished, many stages. Gj! Something that could make this even cooler is if you add some time trial challenge, maybe high score list fastest times on each level.
Awesome game! Played through all the levels! Reminds be quite a bit of my game, actually. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is the fact that you could shoot through walls, and the bullets only reacted when hitting certain walls, which was kinda confusing. Overall great game, keep up the good work!
Awesome work! Somehow, even though I've seen games where barriers grow (and kill), I was really impressed by the encroaching walls. Maybe it's because the shapes are organic. The gun is super cool. I thought the player character being a plain square was a missed opportunity, but the stretch animations were worth sacrificing a more elaborate character design. I also enjoy the snarky humor. One of the best games I've played this jam!
I liked everything about this lil' gam except for suicide mechanic which happened when I shoot the first gun too close to myself. I think it should just pop the player out instead of killing it instantly, because sometimes it can lead to unexpected deaths which happen just by a pixel. Overall, a very good entry, one of the most enjoyable ones I've checked out!
@reax you're right, I could for sure add that. Thanks for the suggestion, and Im glad you liked it!
@purrfexionator yeah its a poor choice of coloring. The space is growing from four bounds, and it grows as you shoot there. It should have been of a different color. Will fix it in the post-jam version, thank you for playing and leaving feedback!
@wrenpirate yes I think the character design could be much much better. I originally wanted to go for a limbo-inspired character but my programmer drawing skill didnt allow that. Maybe I could ask if someone on discord could work out some character design for that. Thanks for the feedback!!
@outstar Haha that was an intended feature, so that the gun is not over-powered  . Thank you for playing, I love your stream!
Really nice game!)
I really enjoyed the overall mood and the dialogs of the game :) Fun and challenging with an interesting mechanic. Great job!
Whew, that was a good one! Full game, level design, cute minimalist graphics, my kind of jokes... and all of this by one person only! Great job. The last level was very fun. Diggy diggy.
Very cool mechanics, and very ambitious and fun concept for the theme given. Well done!
Just loved it!
Woa!! INCREDIBLE
The spikes collider not very obvious in some cases and maybe a bit of color/animation could improve that, but overall -- it was fun to play. Thank you.
Here is my playthrough:
https://youtu.be/F6VSVeX3aO0
@crneumre @flower @chronicbite @leandro-dotta @michael-oliveira Thank you very much for playing! Im glad you enjoyed it!
@eclahn I know right, I like digging a lot, it started out as my prototype and then it became my boss level
1.gif
@icxon Oh, thanks for the feedback! It was a poor design choice. I just wanted everything to be black. I have seen people in streams quitting at level 2 so I appreciate your walkthrough a lot!
Very well done. The progression was well balanced, and I loved having the gun power up for terrain manipulation.
@redhermit Thank you! Destructible terrain was the top of my list to do so Im very happy to have something that gives me an excuse to do it.
I really like the mood and dialogs in the gmae. But I find it a little bit hard to control, maybe it's because i'm suck without space bar for jumping. But this game is one of the most creative game in LD42 so far.
@monyandere I didn't like not to jump with space bar too, but if I let you jump with the space bar, navigate with arrow keys and shoot with the mouse, it would be even more chaotic. Let me know if you have a suggestion for the input layout, thank you for the encouragement!!
Super slick! Great job bringing a vision to life in a game. I had no idea I'd be so excited to be a square with a gun. And a gun that doesn't shoot a player or enemy... shooting to create/destory earth/ground. Really dig this entry and very inspiring to work on my level design skillz.
@webthingee haha Im glad you like it. Yea level design is not an easy thing, Idk if it helps but you should draw a curve from the beginning to the end, put on it several points where you have major upgrades, and make sure the mechanic you used is always utilized after it is introduced. One critical thing is that like in level 3 I introduced the matter gun, and it could be confusing to use at first, so it is very very very important that players can try the new mechanic in a safe environment where they are not distracted by other factors of the game - thats why that level does not have any spikes whatsoever. Hope that helps you a bit!
The feeling when you beat the "unbeatable level" is very satisfying! I liked the gameplay, so the only thing I can say is unnecessary here is the orb animation. Don't get me wrong the orbs look very cool. But I feel that they just don't match the overall simplistic style. Great job!
@akros thank you! that's a pretty arbitrary design choice. I will pay attention to those details as how the whole game comes together next time!
Loved the minimalist artwork and humor of the game. As many have stated the difficulty was a little up there. Also determining what I could or couldn't walk on when I used the gun was difficult and it was a little weird that the spikes killed me if I touched them from the side and not on the pointy part. These are just minor things and the skip level was a nice touch, so people could see all the work you put in. Good job.
@dk5000p thank you for playing! I realized it was a bit too difficult too.. Noted on the spike thingy, I originally thought players should die as soon as they touch the spike, maybe thats a bit overpunishing..
Damn, that's a cool game. Super polished too! It is quite simple, but very nice. The only slight complaint I have is that the controls don't feel super nice in my opinion. But that is very subjective of course.
@thegunmaster thank you for playing, I never made platformer before so I learn things on the way. No I know there are tricks to platformer movement that if you dont have it, it feels lacking, like the control of jump's height when holding the button, or some momentum before moving. Thanks for the feedback!
your game is well polished, the gameplay, the UI, the experience. It felt smooth and nicely done. The game itself is pretty simple but stressful and tempting. It is a great game, well done :)
@corbak thanks for giving it a try, glad you liked it!
Really nice entry! I love the graphics and the mood :) Really good job !!
And the humour of the tutorial ahah
@thibaultar Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. It is my type of humor, but I see that it gets on the way of the game a bit too much, not very immersive.
Clean graphics, nice sound, excellent tutorialisation, good use of the camera, smooth intuitive controls, and it made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Not sure what else I could want from a game really. Excellent work!
Great work! I like the added abilities and the option to skip levels, for terrible gamers like myself. Well done.
Awesome job! The tutorial is AMAZING! It serves as a fantastic exposition for your game and I found it not only educational, but quick and funny too. That is SO important when people are rating/playing a bunch of these jam games back to back.
@historymaker118 thanks a lot for your feedback, that means a lot to me!
@jamesolivermusic Im glad you find it helpful, it was helpful for me too. One of the first thing I added to the game. I think all the games in game jams should have that button
@jimdarkwind thank you Jim, I am all for interactive tutorials. I have seen some other entries this LD with great tutorials as well. Idk about you but Im the kind of player who skips totally the tutorial if possible haha
Your entry is really excellent! Lot's of details are well designed like the tutorial. I personally like the contrast between the character shape and the fine shape of the orbs.
@treizive thank you for playing the game! Im glad you liked it. I wanted to have a more moody character to match that, so it has more visible Ori/limbo-like vibe. That did not make it but here is my clumsy design haha
Very addictive gameplay. Would love to see more levels.
I like the style of this game. Simplistic yet interesting and fun. Good job.
@rhewid @veilastrum thank you guys for giving my game a try! I appreciate it!
Wow! Really loved this game! I would definitevely pay for that if it was official released on steam or something like that. Really nice music, level design, aesthetics, good jokes, haha, good job!
Congratulations!
@chicomcastro thank you for your kind words, I really didnt expect that at all. I think everyone just tried their best to get a good game, and most games turned out quite well. I think yours also has a very solid foundation for a complete game too. Anyway, thanks for playing my game, good luck with the jam and I hope you get enough ratings!
Loved your level design. Even though the difficulty rose maybe a little bit too fast, everything was understandable and enjoyable on hardcore-level of fun.
Thank you for your game, Nam!
Well done! Cool wall growing mechanics, also I've liked a gun.
Really awesome game! Simple but really fun!!
I played through the webgl version because I had no choice (on a business trip and I can't run executables on my company laptop) and webgl crashed for me just before my final boss :( (got an out of memory problem)
But I really enjoyed playing the game. The graphics were simple but the cool particle effects and camera movement made it look really good.
@alex-lutay thank you Alex! I quickly realized that watching people playing it on the streams too, many quit at level 2, and I doubt many of my ratings are based on the game up to that level, which is not everything I wanted to showcase. It really was a great learning experience
@serious07 thank you for giving it a try! xD
@matank Im very sorry that you experienced that. If you think of playing again, here is the cheat button to pass the level automatically: just press K xD. Thank you very much for playing the game!
@nam-nguyen I will definitely play again! (without cheating) after I can run executables again.
@nam-nguyen to be honest - it's always hurts a little bit to see how people failing to understand your game. But that's a part of the fun!
WOO! Cleared all levels! I too fell prey to the WebGL memory bug, so I downloaded and PLAYED AGAIN!
Fell through the floor in the boss stage once, that was weird. Just hit Restart and tried again.
Beat the boss stage. And then I definitely wasn't a cheater at the "end". :) This was a BLAST. I had fun.
Very well done! I like the growing black stuff :) Gameplay and controls felt good! Only downside is the text that vanishes quite fast. I was not able to read everything, but that's only a minor. Good job!
OMG! This is the best game I play on ludem 42 currently ... The animation ,camera movement, gameplay system ,controll , graphic is well done! 5 star :D I like the space shooting gun idea.
@chris-coe I know exactly why, I didnt have the outer bound for the growing thingy so once you are inside, you fall down under. Could put a quick patch to put a collider box at the ground level, thank you for reporting. Im glad you played all the way through, cheater
@bastian Thank you for the feedback, I was afraid it would annoy players so I want them to disappear quickly. I get you, will put a trigger box at some point to clear out the text in a post-jam version. Thank you for playing!!
@yayapipi thank you very much! I tried my best, I was very satisfied with the camera movement as well. Glad you have gone far enough to get the gun xD
A very fun little game. Would have liked to see the simple player sprite a little more animated as to better fit his surroundings (the grass moves, dust on the ground moves, the edges of the stage move, the goals move, yet the player is completely static). I beat the unbeatable level btw
Also a shorthop and a less heavy character would be great.
@nam-nguyen because there has a skip level button ... xD
@king-kujito I got a lot of similar feedback too, I agree a more animated character would fit it better. I tried to work around with animated eyes, but he sure is still heavy and static. Thank you for playing all the way through, why is everyone beating the unbeatable level :joy: :joy:
@yayapipi hahaha I made the right choice then :joy:
@nam-nguyen This game is a good example of how you could really make a simple square shaped character come to life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BheVQ_6qbo
@king-kujito OMG that is sooooo goood, I for sure would take note, that game looks AWESOME!! Only if I have seen that before. I never made platformer and I also havent made many games, but Ive learnt a lot from this LD. Thank you very much for the link!!! I appreciate that a lot!!
@nam-nguyen you have a great mentality towards game development. I wish you the best of luck
I really enjoyed that game. Really amazing!
Nice
Wow ... I'm really impressed by this game. Super interpretation of the theme, awesome mechanics and the level design ... I fell into absolutely every trap :)
One of my favorite games for now :)
@timbelion @devilzinn Thank you guys for playing the game!
@gaming-night I appreciate it. I was trying to go for a similar kind of humor to your game, but it definitely was not as epic haha
A really nice game. At this point I thank Elysia for showing you the game in the stream. I wish you success!
@projectmakers Thank you buddy. I miss her LD streams though, it was really fun there. I guess next LD? haha. Thanks for leaving a feedback! <3
Awesome game, very nice submission. Being the quick shooter I am, a couple of times I killed myself before reading your text, which I was enjoying. That's the worst comment I can make, I really enjoyed this, a lot of polish on the coding, and it goes to show how a well thought out idea with nice mechanics can really shine without an abundance of graphics or animations.
Thank you @grahhhhhhhhh Im just a programmer so I want to play by my strength. The case you mentioned happened to a lot of people as well. I will need to do something about that T_T. Thanks for your words of encouragement!
Great concept! (from Arjendesign's stream just now; https://www.twitch.tv/arjendesign/), great use of space! Quite hard but great mechanic with shooting floors! What you can shoot is a bit confusing (sometimes bullets go through walls to hit further back), but really nice game overall! Great tips on the death screen too!
Very nice game with a great idea and style. I think it is a bit confusing, that you can shoot though walls. It would be nice to have a screen with the gun abilities, because the text only appear once and if you die in this second you can't read it.
Good game. Reminds me of Red Fraction) More levels with destruction! Humor is nice)
Wow, really great entry man, definitely one of my favourites this LD. The graphics worked very well, and the simplicity allowed for that gorgeous animation, and just watching the level close up was satisfying.
The humour was also funnier than you gave it credit for. The dynamic camerawork was actually really smooth and polished, as was the entire experience really, I very much enjoyed it, and managed not to skip any levels, woo!
Really liked the ability to shape the darkness that was enclosing, though it did take some getting used to and was a bit finnicky, but that was certainly not a deal breaker. Sound was effective. This was just a very polished and complete experience that didn't feel like an LD entry at all. Besides the finnicky gun controls, the only complaint I would have would be that there wasn't enough of it! (though there was plenty :) ) By which I mean you should definitely expand this! Thank you for hanging out on stream!
Nice entry! almost a reverse difficulty curve. Game became much easier as it went on! Good humour too, great stuff.
Scrolling appears to be broken. The messages that appear on the penultimate level are cut off. I liked the mechanics, but I didn't bother finishing the boss level; the whole "random garbage filling the screen" mechanic turned the gameplay purely into "fire the space reclaimer as fast as possible."
WoW! I really enjoyed playing it...
Perfect the 'Tutorial System', the gameplay was really cool and that gun really surprised me! Really innovative.. Nice solid entry.
When you don't want players quitting your game, be careful of those difficulty spikes. NO ONE will ever rather skip level than quit the game. First you can expect the next level be even harder, second you're a proud player, you either beat it or beat it! ;) The game is very interesting though, very nice effects and mechanic, what keeps me from higher rating is very steep difficulty curve, but overall I had fun (though a bit of frustration as well :) )
I really really like this game, great idea and realization! The only thing I wished was that there were more levels .... like 1000 more levels :P I would buy this game if it was on steam!
wow really this is one of the best game i play in this ld42 the way your massages connect with player's its really awesome and nice dialogues!!
@kapiteinkoekwous thank you very much for playing it on the stream, the idea is that the space is closing on, so the gun is shooting only to the space, not the matter. Its sort of like a filter on top of everything. My poor use of color did not highlight this well. Anyway, thanks for playing and leaving a feedback!
@neuralcoder noted, I know it was not handy too but didn't have time to implement a proper tool tip system. Thank you for playing and leaving feedback, I will fix that in the post-jam version.
@n-feofentov yes I LOVE destruction! glad you enjoy destroying stuffs too
@pickens-inc watching you play on the stream was everything, thank you again for playing and all the support! I will try to keep it up and expanding!
@designernap haha yeah I agree with that, assuming that you measure the difficulty by the number of deaths. I wanted to encourage people to get to the end so things start to be less difficult after introducing the second mechanic. I really appreciate the feedback and will try to balance between the levels. Thank you for playing!
@ryusui Hmm I don't know which scrolling you mean because I didn't have any scrolling in the game. I get some people reported about the text being cut off too, I wonder if you were playing not in full screen? because WebGL does not show all the screen and cut off the border. Also you don't have to fire it as fast as possible actually, the space may look scary closing in but you will never die if you fire your way out, don't need to clean everything on the screen (impossible anyway). I guess you're not a fan of destruction xD. But honestly I really appreciate you playing that far, many quit even before they have the gun T_T.
@stroe-andrew Im glad you like the game and leave a feedback. It means a lot to me!
@honey I totally understand - now. When I was developing I thought people would use that, but when I watch the stream I learned the exact lesson you said. People don't use that. I get a mixture of feedback about the difficult curve too, I guess it's very much based on personal skill and taste. But it was difficult even for me too. Will try to balance the difficulty curve, thank you very much for your feedback!
@realmar whow thank you for the support man. I didnt think it would be something potential, just a LD entry. I will try to expand it post-jam, depending on how much work it needs :joy: thanks again for playing, much appreciated!!
@bhavesh-tiwari thank you for the support! Connecting to players is exactly what I wanted to do. Im glad you got the spirit. Not many people did :joy:
I feel like this one really used the full potential of the theme very well, designing the game around the theme rather than adding the theme to the game. Embraces it perfectly
@superqgs Yayyyy thanks for the compliment! That means a lot to me!
Very cool marching squares effect, and I love the use of text to liven up the simple if very fun gameplay! Only criticism I had would be the spikes being of the same color as the walls growing. Effective graphics and bouncy text and grass makes it really juicy! High scores all around!
Really nice game, I really kept playing this one even though I died a lot. The mechanics are very cool although once you have the amtimatter gun you can't really die anymore. Also I had a memory out of bounds error in the last level twice, just wanted to let you know. I really loved the humor and the taunting remarks when you died, I really wanted ti beat the level because of it.
@randomphantom Thanks for the feedback, I got that complaint a lot too, will definitely tweak that in the post-jam version. Im glad you enjoyed the game! Yeah marching squares is amazing, I wish I had time to optimize the algorithm so I could have a smaller grid size to make everything less spiky..
@shakedimus Oh thanks for the feedback, I got people reporting about memory overflow too but I havent been able to recreate it. May I ask how long did you play in the last level before getting the memory out of bounds error? Anyway Im very pleased that you like the game, yes the antimatter gun creates almost a sort of reversed difficult curve, I didnt notice until people leave feedback. Will definitely need to find a way to make it more difficult even when you can reclaim space.
@nam-nguyen yeah I played the last level for a while in the browser. The error also stated that I could fix this by allocating more memory to html so maybe you can't recreate it because your settings are different or have a better pc. I'm playing on a normal laptop so maybe you can try out on somebody else's machine. If your game is not meant for html it's not worth the hassle fixing it I think.
That's a pretty nice game, congratulations ! The concept is very simple, yet it offers a lot of depht to the way player can manipulate the environment. Kinda reminds me of games with complimentary mecanics, like Portal for instance, where mecanics are linked to the environment and between them. This is pretty good take, the very minimalist graphisms are good enough for us, and you have a lot of humour that cheers us up during the whole game ! Good job :) !
Great game! Graphics and sounds are quite nice, but the really really shine with its mechanics. It fit very well within the theme. I would love to see it fully released with even more feature on the market.
@shakedimus thanks, yeah there is an option is WebGL export that specify the amount of memory allocated for the app. Currently its 256MB, and if it exceed that, I think it is a bug that I didnt clean some stuffs. Thanks for more details about the bug, you're the best!
@demn Not everyone appreciate it, the mechanic may appear boring for some people. Thanks for leaving some encouragement! It means a lot to me.
@amba Thank you! I really appreciate your encouragement! Its not everyone's taste, and the fact that you get lost in space seems very finicky for people. It still needs a lot of refinement but again, I appreciate your support!!
Looks like you try-harded as f**k. I see that you have some GD experience because the game isn't overscoped and have all core components in the right place. Nice work, good game to play with.
@dumivid Hey thanks for leaving a feedback I appreciate it a lot. I did try as hard as possible for the game, it still needs a lot a lot of refinement. What does GD stand for?
@nam-nguyen For "Game development" or "Game design", depends on context.
@dumivid haha, I see. I do watch a lot of GDC talks and all the failure workshops so the knowledge might come from there, but Im relatively new to GD. Nice to know!
Very original! The dialogs are funny and the effects are cool. Well done!
Nice job! Really a complete and fun little game.
Simple, fun and challenging
@nam-nguyen This game is awesome! :thumbsup: (P.S. I am jealous :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )
Nice spin on the Super Meat Boy style.
The title screen appears to have a memory leak if you leave it running for a couple of minutes.
@chicodelosmates @smogen Thank you for playing the game. Im glad you enjoyed it.
@michael-wingfield Thanks Mike "The educator" haha. I really like the sound effects in your game, would definitely play with it in my next entry. Thanks for the post on LD feed too!
@anubhav-kashyap Ahh knowledge and skill accumulate very fast, you will only get better. I think for beginners (Im also a beginner), it is very important to do clones of other games so you learn much more about level design, game balance and all. Would love to see you in the next LD, keep it up!
@tomg Yes I got the same report from others too. I think there is a memory overflow somewhere that I thought I have fixed but apparently not. Thanks for playing the game, I was not inspired by super meat boy at all but it seems to turn out that way :joy: Again, thanks for reporting the bug!!
Fantastic entry! Great sense of humour, I loved the introductory sequence. Art was very moody and polished, only complaint was that the orbs looked out of place. Music fit the humour of the game well. Couldn't get past the boss level haha, all the levels before that were fantastic and very well designed. Great work! :)
Amazing game which deserves all positive comments upper. The main mechanics is smooth and works as expected. I reminds me SuperMeatBoy, of course, but you add some unusual features. Gorgeous and really well done. I guess that I could find your name in the top 10 when will be displayed results in a few weeks. Bravo ++
@megalink Although it looks scary as the space coming at you, it doesnt really kill you as long as you keep firing at it xD. Thank you for playing till the very end, I appreciate your positive feedback very much!
@geckoo1337 Thanks for the compliment, the game still needs a lot of refinement. Im glad you gave it a play and liked it, very appreciate your support!!
Great game i had a lot of fun playing it ! I really like how you use the gun in this game
@dyzzyd Thanks for playing and leaving positive feedback. That means a lot to me!
Really fun and funny game! Super difficult for me, but entertaining. Great use of humor and changing mechanics throughout!
Fun and great game!! I had to skip a few levels but I did the boss fight and as you said, it is the funniest, as it takes all the part of the gameplay into a single level.
The only issue I had was that when I wanted to retry a level, I had the bad habit to reach for a button as there was two of them, and I clicked several times on "Main menu" instead of pressing a key. But maybe it's just me? ^^ Not a big deal though, the game itself is really solid!
Nice fluid gameplay. The addition of a level skip is very effective I thought. Users are able to give you feedback on levels further on. The level whrer there was an orb surrounded by the black circle. I did not have a clue of what to do.
@steffanie Hey thanks for playing and leaving a positive feedback, it means a lot to me!
@kiirohanabi Yes, that is a poor choice, I really don't know why I did that, no one wants to go back to main menu from there. I saw on streams many times people mistakenly clicked the main menu button. Thanks for playing all the way through and leaving a feedback!
@mza Thank you, it was the first thing I implemented because I myself can't pass some levels until I saw people did it on the streams. In that level you're supposed to open the chest on top of that black circle, the you would get the second mechanic upgrade, that's when the real fun comes in hehe. Thank you very much for playing!
Nice game, it was easy and hard not like mine :D, great job :D
@biebras Hey thanks for playing and leaving a feedback. Im glad you find that easy. I already got **A LOT** of complaints about the difficulty of my game (you can scroll back, many quit the game at level 2 on the streams I watch too), and you said it was easy. Then you must be very good at platformer games. Compared to that, if you think your game is "a bit difficult", it probably is too difficult because not everyone is good at platformers T_T.
5-stars! When I listened to the beat and jumped and avoided the spikes to get to the dazzling star I felt amazed! If you continue to develop this, at first I didn't recognize a spike among decorative foliage.
This is very well put together. I think the gun feels out of place in the game, but this is just a nitpick. Other than that, this is a great platformer (and I don't even like them anymore).
Great job.
@ethan-kennerly yes it is among the top things to fix. Thank you for playing and leaving a feedback. It means a lot to me.
@cassio-eduardo I understand, I needed something to indicate that I can now manipulate environment, "gun" was a choice, but not a good choice. Thank you for playing and leaving a feedback, I appreciate it!
Wow, such a complete and polished game. Best one I've seen so far. I'm definitely following you to see the results. I will checkout your blog too, it seems good. I hope you will make an in-depth tutorial about this game or release the source code maybe. I never made such a complete game and want to learn
@axavian hey thank you for playing and leaving support! The game still needs a lot of refinement, I don't know if I can/want to extend it but I am for sure going to extend some features in it, such as the dialogue system (I really want to create a system that I can control, spawning not only in the first time players encounter it but also after a specific amount of encounters - you can see in the death message: "You have died exactly 20 times" for example). My dream game is one that changes as players progress in the game. Anyway, I am very happy with the camera work in this game and will for sure write a blog or two about it. Regarding the source code, I used to have it up here, but then I didn't think anyone really used that so I took that down LOL. I will put it back up, but be aware that my code is VERY unorganized (first entry problem) and I also have delegate events here and there that makes it even more confusing to read T_T.
PS. I highly recommend going to some compo games and get the source code to learn from them too. Some recommendation (I've got a bunch too): Mass Coalsce (also a very polished game), Crushed, EventfulHorizon, and S. These are all very good Unity games that have the source code released.
@nam-nguyen Yeah I generally don't check source codes but I wanted to check this one and play with it a little. Don't worry about it being unorganized and confusing. Although I like order, I'm a c++ programmer so it can't be that confusing  I'm just not very good at making the game itself. Anyway I will check those games as well, thank you for sharing
@axavian no problem. Source code is up and can be downloaded. Just ask if you find something confusing.
out of spqce.png
Brilliant x). I had so much fun, 11/10 would buy full game
@nalah Thanks for reporting the bug, and for playing all the way through as I can see in your screenshot hehe. Yes it is a known bug and I havent been able to find it. I will try to dig deeper and fix it. Your support means a lot to me, thanks!!!
THANK GOD FINALLY I HAVE THE OUT OF MEMORY BUG FIXED!! I guess no one is going to replay it but yeah, its fixed now haha.
I thought this was excellent. My favorite of the Jam so far and my highest score. Excellent work. Not really got anything to add. You asked about difficulty and I think it is spot on. It layers up nicely and tricks you into thinking it will be much simpler than it is. Top work.
@arron-fowler thank you for the positive feedback! It means a lot to me. Im glad you enjoyed the game!
Thought it was pretty neat. It was difficult right away, and shooting yourself into the floor happened more than I wanted, but it looked good and felt smooth. So awesome job.
@drums Thanks for playing and leaving a feedback. I kinda wanted to not let that happen, but then players would be too powerful so.. :joy:
Wow, AMAZING. Everything of this game smells like a winner. So much detail in EVERYTHING. I think this is my favourite for this jam and i've saw some pretty good games ! GRATS !
@roidz Hey Im glad you enjoyed the game, thats all I aimed for! The game is still not as polished as some other entries so I don't expect much, Id be happy with a top 10  Thank you for your support!!
Really beautiful game. The artwork is amazing and the concept is great. Game has the right balance and the right sense of humor. Its an amazing game. Really good job!
I dont know why, but I think that the main character is cute I dk why I think that the box is cute, but it is. The effects(particles) are awesome. I really like the idea. Good job, man !
@tlcoc thanks for playing and leaving some feedback, I appreciate it!!
@firehawk haha thank you, I think it's because the blinking makes it a bit cuter than it is. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!!
I think this game fits what Mark Brown from GMTK classifies as an analog puzzle game. I liked the concept, the core mechanic, and how you took the theme of the game jam. Visually is not to my liking, neither the humor. Pretty good choice of background music. Awesome work.
You already played our game: The legend of the looter and the incredible backpack that never runs out of space, so we can't do anything but thank you. 」( ̄▽ ̄」)
The gameplay really fits the theme! And the music is catchy~ I haven't found any flaw while playing, other than finding narrow passageways near spikes hard to get into, but that's just my typical need to die and improve. The fact you can manipulate where to put platforms is the highlight.
@mapedorr hey thanks for the feedback, it was very accurate to what I went for, there is nothing to the graphics really, just some primitive shapes and some grass. Humor was also too try-hard, I didnt have an anchor to what is humor in games until now that I see real humorous games haha. Also thanks for mentioning Mark Brown, I just checked out his youtube channel and there are amazing stuffs there, much appreciated!
@lexyvil thank you for playing long enough to get the gun and leaving a feedback. That means a lot to me!
Really enjoyed this one! The gameplay was really solid and the graphics looked great! Thanks for sharing your game with my stream! Here's a vod of the gameplay: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297479036?t=01h26m36s
@ursagames thanks I even requested the game twice, always miss your stream T_T. I really enjoyed your run watching it afterwards, probably one of the best run in all of the streamers and you were very chilled too! Thank you very much for playing!
Really nice entry, it's polished and the tutorial is simply perfect. Good job!
I adore the tutorial. Very polished game, great job!
Loved everything about this, the mechanics, the humor, even the "impossible" level :D
@draeskai @jeplmr @wendel-scardua thank you for playing and leaving a feedback. I appreciate it!
Really well made!
I know that its just 'box art by programmer' but looks cool
@drowzy-unicorn @team-on thanks for playing and leaving a feedback! Yeah it is, by all means, a box with blinking eyes haha.
Great entry! I normally am loathe to play insta-kill platformers, but with your option to skip levels, I can move forward after failing a lot
Very innovative gameplay, the addition of the add/remove gun added a lot more depth (and made it easier for me :P) Good learning curve + tutorial flow, well done!
Minor feedback/improvements: - Experienced some slowdown/choppiness occasionally - Even quicker level reload can help to stay in the zone - Offer skip level after X tries perhaps
@joror Hey thanks for not quitting the game halfway through hehe. All of your feedback are correct and very honest, I appreciate that! - The game is not at all optimized so the frame rate sometimes drops to 20, Im surprised I didn't get that complaints before maybe because people were too nice to point it out. - Yes, I could have ditched completely the death screen, but I needed somewhere to put the skip level button, hence that menu - I actually have that implemented, you can only click after 1 death, but the disabled animation was not very visible.
I stil havent figured out the best solution of where and how to show the skip level button, I would love to hear your thoughts if you have some ideas. Otherwise, I will try to come up with a better solution in my next LD. Again, thanks for your criticism and suggestions!
Dude! This game. What an amazing game. What an awesome creativity. Awesome work dude. This feels really hard to code.
Dude! This game. What an amazing game. What an awesome creativity. Awesome work dude. This feels really hard to code.
Cool!
@velocity7 haha I pushed it a bit, never did destructible terrain before but I learnt it during the jam. If you are interested in, look up "procedural cave generation" on youtube, its where this whole thing comes from. Anyhow, Imma be working in a rhythm based game, see you in the music game jam xD
@arcus thank you for playing!!
Haha naah not competing in that jam because of work load. :/ but thanks for the youtube video
Great little game, would easily be a game I could sink several hours into without noticing
@kmce haha thanks for your positive feedback, I appreciate it! The game still needs a lot of refinement so as to be a proper platformer though
I've beat the Unbeatable Level.
@pell707 Niceee! Im glad you played it all the way through, thanks!! Good luck with your entry!
Very good game, great theme usage, interesting mechanics. Well, everything is really-really good! I had lots of fun playing it. Thanks for letting players skip levels, it's very handy!
@roman-petrov Im glad you played long enough to see the game mechanics, many people quit despite having the skip level button. It was handy for me during the development as well!
Also thanks for leaving a feedback, I see that you rated many games but didnt receive much back T_T. On your game now, good luck!!
This was very good, a ton of attention to detail with the Camera movements, text, and little things like the squash and stretch. I was following along in stream and didn't have as much trouble with the level you were worried about, I had more trouble not accidentally pressing the skip button out of impulse to quickly iterate.
Thoughts and suggestions: Perhaps shortening the iteration time between deaths, making the Skip Level a thing in the menu, or an onscreen hint? I had a LOT of trouble with the Mouse Shooting and where the character was in the world. Maybe having a line renderer show me where the shot will land would help me not kill myself so often.
Great job! I really liked this entry!
@occultone Finally some great suggestions!! I have been waiting for these forever! Thank you very much!! I never thought a bad designed UI could severely affect a game until this LD. I agree, the skip button could be on the game screen and the main menu button could be a back arrow like someone (maybe you) suggested in the stream. Regarding the indication of where the gun is pointing to, the shooting is in fact a line renderer, your suggestion is actually a GREAT IDEA! I will surely add that.
Gosh, it means a lot to see some constructive feedback. Thank you very much Occultone!
Anytime @nam-nguyen : You did a great job, I'll try and remember to play some more later and give more feedback assuming work doesn't eat me tomorrow.
Very polished and enjoyable. The web build felt laggy but that might just be my system. Good job guys!
@team-yarn yeah the web build is very laggy I don't know why. I saw that on another stream too. Thanks for the feedback, I will disable the web build for now so people play the game with the windows build T_T. Feel free to give it another go, the windows build is much more stable and higher in performance.
Oh man. I love what you did with the text. Very funny. Brilliant Even. Well done all around :D
This game is awesome! The two core mechanics of creating terrain with left click, and destroying it with right click are so simple but have so much depth! The "Final Boss" was quite fun, tunneling through the terrain as it spawned and creating terrain to get around was great! I couldn't figure out the "unbeatable" level unfortunately haha.
Also, another REALLY impressive thing about this game was how polished all of the menus are. I was super impressed by the animated pause menu slipping into the screen. The zooming and camera effects now and then are fantastic (the first level, where the camera zooms out to show you that space is collapsing, the camera zoom when you first load the game, etc). It's little things like that that make the game feel really polished for a Ludum Dare game.
Great job!
Nice game! interesting graphics
cool!
Great game! I love the graphics. There's a slight issue when playing in windowed mode, some of the text on the later levels get cut off. Also, would be great to have a Linux/MacOS build. Other than that, good job!
@nervous-composers thanks for playing and leaving a feedback. There is a web build but it has some performance issue so I took it off the page, thinking that nobody would play the game near the end of the rating time. Regarding the text cut off issue, I get some similar feedback too, may I ask if the text get cut off by the screen border or by the growing thingy?
@nam-nguyen By the screen border. I selected Windowed when I started the application, which defaults to 1600x900 resolution.
@nervous-composers ahhhhhhh I seeeeeee.. That helps a lot!! I didnt design the game for all resolutions, and it was specifically for 1366x768 so I understand why it happened now. Thanks a lot!
Interesting game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/RBBzpxy2bdA
