LD42 — Running out of space

Birdbird can't fly! by Togimaro 2018-08-14T12:50:41Z

How does this have so few votes?! This is amazing! I love absolutely everything about it. The dumb characters, Birdbird being passive aggressive, the details in the dialogues and the objects (I love having to split my attention between story/details and gameplay), the sound design... Oh, and the credits! Great job you guys!

Raise the sea by Erkberg 2018-08-15T19:25:18Z

Loved it. The gameplay is spoiled by the fact that standing at the far right edge makes you safe for the whole game, downplaying the fish's struggles, but the message is still clear and I like it. The sound design and music are nice the graphics serve their purpose really and the theme of the jam is nailed.

Reasonable Claustrophobia by SkullPixel 2018-08-15T17:19:42Z

My only criticism is that the game is a little on the easy side. All the rest is great! Nice music and sound effects, well made graphism, smooth gameplay and level design, even a boss fight! I enjoyed the game very much, congratulations.

The last witch-knight by HolyBlackCat 2018-08-15T22:55:45Z

Ah, a skilled boss fight with this theme! I love it. Not that I am nearly skilled enough to beat it (I got to the part where he surrounds himself of runes and then he charged me, I died and decided that I had seen enough) but I love it and yours is great. Good graphic and sound design, nice particle effects, good controls (although I would have loved to be able to fire in a direction and dash in another but I guess this would require mouse control and maybe that simply wasn't your goal?). Thank you for this game, maybe some day I'll come back to it and try to beat it! How much of the boss was left for me, if you want to spoil this kind of thing?

3x3 a tale about friendship by oskarOlausson 2018-08-16T16:30:19Z

Nice concept, well implemented. A tutorial that progressively introduces new types of blocks would help tremendously if you want to continue developping the game a bit!

Monarch-eat by drtizzle 2018-08-15T21:55:42Z

This isn't really a game as it is but it's a fun experience, I liked understanding how to give him the last hamburger. The camera was getting all wonky when I was scrolling though.

NO MORE ROOM IN HELL by panurge 2018-08-14T22:59:49Z

This is a good little one! As you said, nothing ground breaking but the controls were tight, the mechanics well polished, the enemy behaviour more than just running to you, the graphics good at what they were doing and the humor was very enjoyable. So all in all I really liked playing it!

Anti-Automata by thegunmaster 2018-08-15T21:43:58Z

Nice for something done in one day! A bit laggy as many have said but html is probably to blame for this. Funnily enough, repeatedly going back and forth between two tiles was the best way to hold for me, firing in both directions.

Eblobla by Steing 2018-08-15T22:15:23Z

I didn't expect a card game and I'm glad I found one! There actually is some strategy to it, the rules are a bit weird at first but once you understand how they work it's great! The way some wards are worded could use more explanation but I enjoyed it overall.

As the world burns by super8bitrafa 2018-08-14T02:36:41Z

I liked this one a lot ! It's nothing very new but it does what it does well ! The slimes are cute, the SFX works great, the controls are responsive. What it lacks : health and hit feedback.

Zachary's Memory by namnam 2018-08-14T15:15:27Z

Amazing! I'm a sucker for this kind of games and I loved playing this one so much. 5/8 at first try, 7/8 at the second (still misplaced that thing about the supermarket...) and I'm pretty sure I will come back one more time later to find out what I missed. The story is immersive, the background music is fitting.

I'm afraid it's a bit too long for a jam game, people rate quickly. And they miss out on this one. The ending is beautiful. You're a good story teller!

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-15T14:46:42Z

Good game, the feeling I had while playing Diablo and its agonizing inventory system was definitely there! I retrospect since your stats can stay ahead of the curve pretty easily the most important thing is to preserve your equipment at all cost. I lost because several of my equipped items were deleted and I lost every subsequent battle. The game in itself is very polished, congratulations!! Mad props to your graphic designer as well!

Running out of Keys by OadT 2018-08-15T19:48:26Z

Nice original idea. I didn't like that some elements of the puzzles appeared without a warning, a good puzzle should be solvable from the start with good enough observation skills, but I still enjoyed the game. You managed to do a double-take on the theme and that's nice!

Killer Bytes by Alien 2018-08-15T21:18:02Z

The game lacks a lot of polish. You can't realistically protect the apps because you have no idea when they pop up and leaving the chip for too long will result in viruses reaching it. Since the apps getting corrupted inflicts damage to the chip you simply cannot last long at all. I kept losing memory at random (from apps getting corrupted I assume). The graphics are neat though! Now the problems come from somewhere obvious: one person alone working with a new engine and knowing this you did pretty good. Kudos to you for keeping on going despite the circumstances! You can only get better at this ;)

Nether Flood by Ever 2018-08-14T02:43:02Z

Thanks everyone! The balance of difficulty vs power of the reality crafters (blue cubes) is definitely something we want to test around later, right now the game gets difficult enough the longer you play but it could use tweaks. I'm glad the atmosphere of the game hit where we wanted!

MinoFall by Ashment 2018-08-14T03:09:59Z

I feel like there was a way to determine where the tetrimino was going to move when I shot it but I couldn't find it so it felt completely random to me. I think it has a lot of potential but the randomness I felt made it uninteresting to me. If there WAS a way to influence then simply writing it somewhere would have alleviated that frustration for me!

Sea of Bells by Kultisti 2018-08-14T18:35:51Z

What an experience ! The transitions, the music, the creepy sea monsters, the story... Thank you very much for this !

When Life Gives You Lemons by sebastianscaini 2018-08-15T12:33:40Z

Beautiful art and music! The voice acting isn't perfect but t's good and it's too rare in a jam not to love. Gameplay-wise I had fun, the animations are superb and it pushes the fun further. I had even more fun when I realized that emptying your mag on every lemon and reloading each time was more efficient.

Getting Over Gold Hoarding by leetleaf 2018-08-14T02:28:12Z

~~I'm not going to rate the game for now because I simply didn't get what I was supposed to do... and then suddenly I died. A tutorial or at least instructions would help if you can add them !~~

Strike that, I'm dumb. See comment further below.

Getting Over Gold Hoarding by leetleaf 2018-08-14T03:33:35Z

@leetleaf WELL I'll blame the fact that rating games at 5AM isn't exactly optimal. So, the gameplay is actually pretty smart. I didn't exactly understand when the countdown appeared over the shopkeeper or how I kept disarming it, I think by touching him ? But I still get the idea and I like it. The pace quickly picks up and it feels nice.

Get To The Airlock by Dan Davis 2018-08-14T02:19:44Z

Nice game, the controls fit the atmosphere (or lack thereof!) well and incorporating the remaining psi in the end screen gave an incentive to optimize my movements. My biggest criticism would be that barely touching spikes basically dooms the attempt, their damage feels too punitive.

The Best Internet Experience by Hugo kieffer 2018-08-15T14:57:24Z

Never knew interneting was so hard D: Good game, simple but well executed.

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-16T17:04:04Z

That strange moment when the screen is so full of skulls that you want the boss to show up and save your ass  Beautiful graphics and sounds, the controls were just good and the inertia just enough. Special mention for the color of the skulls that made them visible enough to not have to pay attention to them when they're flying around at high speed and still know where they are and where they're going.

The bad: the boss was way too easy, he barely showed up every time and he became even easier once I got the shuriken. Also, I know this is hard to balance because it depends on player skill but I don't consider myself particularly skilled and I got 66k points on my second try which allowed me to buy the whole shop in one go. Maybe increase the price of the items?

Overall a very good game with matching art and sounds! Congrats!

Collapsing Reality by SamuelDeboni 2018-08-14T13:13:20Z

This game made me feel that switch between "I'll survive!" and "Ok this is hopeless, I'm going down but I'm taking all of you f*ckers with me!" and I loved it. Nice sound design, nice simplistic design. I killed 13XX of them and I'm happy. Minor flaw: I had no idea when or why I could drop another Dimensional Stabilizer. Could be something to add later on if you still want to work on the game.

PS: I clicked on your game because your graphics made me think a LOT of ours and it turns out the games aren't similar at all  Come check us out !

Temple Trap - The Game! by Jasper Hansen 2018-08-14T03:18:46Z

There is a lot of things that need polishing in this game (the walls that sometimes pop up are barely visible, the hitbox aren't very clear) but I like the idea of giving health a physical and restrictive representation!

Benjamin's Acceptance by Zachary Granger 2018-08-14T03:02:38Z

That was amazing. The narration is beautiful, the gameplay makes so much sense, the theme of the jam is fully embraced... Thank you for the experience !

The Sand Will Bury Me by anacat 2018-08-15T18:13:49Z

Very immersive! I love this kind of games. The sound, the graphics, the storytelling, the mechanics... it's all great, even though the loss mechanic can be frustrating until you understand how it's useful. Only criticism, you can make one last move when the time hits 0 but it can't make you win. It feels weird.

Tale of the Bagger: A Love Story by trozen 2018-08-16T16:12:45Z

Nice! Well done, fluid and with fun background noises to boot. And to top it all a well made tutorial! Congratulations, this is very well polished.

LimitedActions by Stroe Andrew 2018-08-15T13:18:37Z

Nice game, not quite polished enough I think- there were some instances where I had negative space yet still some space to work with. The concept of having timed things (enemy attacks) vs limited instantaneous actions is interesting but the super power feels weird having me just stand there until it comes out of cooldown. Nice job overall !

Light of Bacterium by Blurred Lines 2018-08-15T14:52:17Z

Nice controls and art, it has potential but needs a lot more polish and complexity to not feel stale after a few levels. A bit laggy. Also I don't see the jam theme at all in it, you should opt out of this category.

Space Invasion by Nam Nguyen 2018-08-15T21:36:39Z

Whew, that was a good one! Full game, level design, cute minimalist graphics, my kind of jokes... and all of this by one person only! Great job. The last level was very fun. Diggy diggy.

Trash Mage by Mustiman 2018-08-15T23:09:11Z

Very nice, good design in the bosses and their adds. I was annoyed by the fact that I kept losing focus of the game because my mouse was leaving it but that's me and not you! I enjoyed it a lot.

Choose Them up by Larnin 2018-08-14T22:40:10Z

I want to like this game, I really do. I even gave it a good rating. It's nice, it handles... rather well, I think I'm just bad a twin-stick shooters, it has nice sound design and a twist to the upgrade system. I feel like there is a degree of specialization and of strategy that is possible with these upgrades that could allow for different gameplay depending on the upgrades choices.

BUT it crashed my computer twice! And by crashed I mean straight-up turned it off without the slightest warning! Once just when I pressed play, once while loading level 3. I feel like this is a good game and I would want to play it a bit more but it seems there is a big problem between my computer and it.

Choose Them up by Larnin 2018-08-14T23:14:34Z

@larnin I just edited my previous comment to make it clear I indeed don't think it's the game's fault and more likely a weird compatibility problem with my ailing computer. I couldn't tell you what's going on at all, I've played many other Unity games today and none gave me this result.

In Roll The Waves by Eoku 2018-08-16T13:19:47Z

I'm using Chrome on Windows ans got no problem at all with the web version's audio. I enjoyed this little experience. It says a lot that I was disappointed there weren't more levels! Nice overall feeling, the audio and the sounds go well with the ambiance. The mechanic could lead to interesting puzzles later down the line with other mechanic introduced, like portals or motion in pseudo 3D (cf Snake Pass).

DataSkream by Sollara Games 2018-08-14T02:08:43Z

Nicely done, especially on the artistic direction! The gameplay didn't win me over as much though the perspective is a bit strange and unprecise to me and I felt like there is a slight delay on the jump. Good job overall though !

Polar Bear Ballads by diesdas 2018-08-15T15:04:36Z

The music caught me off guard. Well played. I liked it. Fun and gets to the point.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Antlerman by Jiri_One 2018-12-04T18:32:28Z

It's a nice game! But I see a few mistakes here and there.

The first that jumped to me is the pew pew sound. The mood of the game is rather grim with sacrifices, blood and bats... and we get a basic pew pew. It felt out of place to me. The music is nice though! Simple but nice.

Second is the respawn after making a sacrifice. I got killed on spawn several times before even getting to see the screen! At first I thought the upgrade killed me. You need to make enemies spawn at a reasonable distance from the player, at least almost a screen. This can even be considered a bug as it prevented me from playing the game.

Third, I don't really know how I did this but at one point after getting an upgrade I got a second instance of the music playing over the first. Make sure you can't call the music several times at the same time in your code :)

Overall I liked the graphics, the animations and the idea a lot but there are a few mistakes in execution. Thank you very much!

Battlecraft : Orcs and Famine by SoKette 2018-12-04T21:22:26Z

Really nice! It's fun to test answers out when you don't know the result yet, it's another kind of fun to try and minmax everything once you know more. Some things I still don't understand but I really enjoyed it overall.

Also, bonus points for the mouthed sfx!

Tank Gauntlet: Control vs Power by gamepopper 2018-12-04T19:54:30Z

That's nice! There are several combinations that can almost trivialize the first level but the second is very, very hard. I enjoyed it a lot. I feel that 20 kills is a bit too much though.

Bonus points for knife tank.

Identity Crisis by Josh Bothun 2018-12-05T20:21:13Z

Nice, in depth puzzler! I'm always impressed by well-crafted puzzle games in a jam. Nice entry!

Shamanigans by SnoutUp 2018-12-04T17:21:46Z

A complex system made of simple elements, I liked it! The feedback of the consequences of each action wasn't as clear as I'd like, I didn't really know what I was doing at first but it's very solid. Thanks for this game!

Burn-Out by Tom Kurcz 2018-12-05T19:57:36Z

I love these kinds of experiences. The decaying music hits so hard every time too. Great entry, you hit the theme dead on and you made a great example of why games don't always need "real" graphics.

Small note : I got what I think is a little bug, the text telling me that I didn't have any cash left and was only halfway through the month appeared twice in a row once (telling me I had bought the furnitures first, and then telling me it was better to not have bought them).

Gossip by MattWagar 2018-12-04T22:24:21Z

I didn't really get where the gameplay is. Was there a way to actually make a mistake and have people turn against you before the end ? Anyway, it was a nice experience. The morality is a bit heavy handed but sometimes these simple things aren't simple for everyone so I like it every time it's said.

Monsters & Portals by Limitless 2018-12-04T21:46:59Z

It looks very good, the controls are very tight and satisfying (except for this strange decision to not put the jump on UP, I will never understand that). I liked it!

The combat is where it's lacking a bit though. The enemies don't get knocked back when I hit them (and obviously they don't really attack but I assume that's because of time constraint) and it feels a little annoying.

The suggestion I would make would be to scale up the rhythm. Right now the demon's hunger rises so slowly and the sacrifices give so little return that I felt I could as well have waited. Maybe make the hunger start from 0%, grow much faster but the sacrifices actually give you a meaningful 10 to 20% recess ?

Small nitpick : the small slime enemies are the most annoying thing to see!

Dungeon Sacrificer by Ancalagon 2018-12-05T22:36:53Z

I'm impressed by the sheer amount of stuff in this game! The system is very interesting too. I don't know if every villager has a power (what do the priest or the guard do, for example?) but it was very clear that I would lose something. I sacrificed the cartographer and quickly regretted it...

I got a bug where during the level 5 I couldn't aim right anymore, my character was always facing left.

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-04T18:59:04Z

This is a real little gem. Well designed, well polished, well animated, good sound. I went through the whole game, loved some interactions between the heroes' abilities, had a good laugh at the ending. Overall, loved it.

Got a little bug (I assume it's a bug since it's not needed to complete the game) where if you have a key down when you switch to another character the other character will get the input or the previous one will keep its input going (like keep walking even though you're not controlling him anymore).

Thank you very much for this little game!

"Heretiks", just a day at work... Killing some people. by Leothil 2018-12-04T19:10:00Z

Nice art, fun dialogue (the poet's speaks in rhymes!). I think I'd like where this was headed!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Money Mafia by miltage 2019-05-01T17:31:19Z

I'm very fond of this kind of takes on the theme, and this one's well executed. Lovely graphics and intro sequence, nice choice of music. One little thing that got me is I ended up dropping my weapon when there was none left to pick up (the last tommy gun disappeared just before I could grab it!) so I was walking empty handed... and unable to sucker punch those mafia quarters! That would be something nice to add, the ability to fight bare handed.

BETRAYDED by karreg 2019-05-01T16:48:41Z

Wow, this is really good! Nothing really missing there, it's responsive although the controls aren't easy to handle at first, the graphics are great and translate what the characters are doing. Couldn't play with two unfortunately but I enjoyed what I saw anyway!

Are round things supposed to be barbs that hurt you? They didn't for me.

Provide by RedHermit 2019-05-01T17:21:59Z

I only ever got one choice other than working, whether to read a bedtime story or not. The choice "Grumble and be negative about life" felt... judgy to me, as if there was no other option than working hard or be negative.

I really like the idea of the game though! I just feel like you should have devoted less time to animate the office and more to offer more choice, more options - even if it meant having the character and one single asset in front of a white background, that would have worked fine here. The two other characters seen on the title screen (aside from the main char and the child) are never seen, unless I missed something. I think they deserved some screen time ;) There is a lot of potential in this game, I hope you feel like expanding on it.

Enemy Of The State by Darylsteak 2019-05-01T16:39:39Z

I had fun! Well done, responsive as should be for such a game. Nice, simplistic AI that doesn't feel too abusable, good job! A few criticisms though: It isn't always clear what is an obstacle and what isn't. I'm pretty sure the enemies that spawn on the left window, lower part not long into the game walk through walls, they did twice in a row for me.

Thank you for making this!

Blood Farm by BootlegJoe 2019-05-01T16:25:36Z

Nice game, I enjoyed it. I think the characters (Vlad and Gary) could be a little more detailed in terms of graphics. The flowers look very nice! Maybe make clear how much we're giving to Vlad in relation to our current health? Can you actually defend yourself against the swarm of bats that come for you when Vlad's thirsty? I didn't survive long enough to try.

Deer Zombie Hospital by Eroar 2019-05-01T17:55:19Z

Very nice entry! Although for now the game is still "breakable", I farmed the little patients until I had enough health to roast the deer. The flamethrower is da bomb by the way, but every flamethrower in a video game has to be OP so that's fine by me.

The handgun really feels like it tickles the enemies more than it hurts them though!
