LD42 — Running out of space

Wingman by minibobbo 2018-08-14T01:01:14Z

Love the art on this one! The minimap was a really nice inclusion too.

Shooting out of Space by ginger9 2018-08-14T16:18:07Z

really good use of the theme, didn't expect the mechanic to be flipped around like that. The enemy bullets shrinking / expanding the level, the white zone killing them too... you definitely found a lot of cool ways to re-use the mechanic. Good stuff!

The National Library of Geometric Impossibilities by nanolotl 2018-08-15T03:42:37Z

That last book made me way happier than I expected haha. I had a really fun time playing TNLoGI, it was relaxing. The use of the theme is a bit loose, but clever in its own way so I like that. The puzzles were nice too. Not overwhelming but still satisfying to complete. The mechanic with merging locations didn't always work 100% of the time (the seam was blinking between itself and the wall behind it for example) but when it did, it was very enjoyable.

There is Never Enough Space!!! by Jamie Rollo 2018-08-14T21:55:40Z

A ton of quality packed into this

42_GetOut by elZach 2018-08-14T18:23:43Z

I love this one. Good use of the theme, fun graphics and hilarious.

Memory by Kataware 2018-08-15T03:21:20Z

With all the other quick, action or puzzle-oriented games from the jam, this was a really welcome change of pace. You bothered to put tiny bits of story in there, a good soundtrack, and a bunch of fun weapons to play with. Like you said in your comment, it's definitely not finished and there's a few glitches, but I'm really happy I could sit down and enjoy your game.

By the way, why is it called memory? Does it have to do with the character's story?

Nether Flood by Ever 2018-08-14T02:29:12Z

Solid entry, I love the pixelated look of everything and the quick pace! Only criticism is that it felt like I was struggling with controlling the ship more than planning how to take the fragments. The crafters were a really good idea though - if the fragments were generated differently, I think it would be very interesting to decide when is a good time to take the crafter.

Fun game, glad I got the pleasure of playing it!

Enduring Light by Swen 2018-08-14T17:44:35Z

I got overwhelmed really quickly, but the use of the theme and ideas were really good. I think if the upgrades made a bigger difference, it would help the balancing since more enemies = possibly more upgrades.

Bus Stop Blast by NotSpaghettiGames 2018-08-14T01:59:51Z

Fun game! The controls were a bit too slippery - I think it would have been more fun if stopping and drifting was easier. Overall though, it was a fun challenge to beat!

Clean up Championship by ckyre 2018-08-14T01:35:51Z

Fun game. The mechanics were a little bit furstrating at times since the movement was based on the object's direction instead of the camera's.

However, I really liked the idea, and the audio / visuals were great!

Star Skipper by NoahRo 2018-08-14T05:52:21Z

The game is definitely rough around the edges but I really like the way it uses the theme. It's something I haven't seen in the other submissions yet and that's nice!

the way the character controls could be improved - maybe he should be running along with the speed of the moving screen by default, and you can speed up / slow down. I just find it hard to aim my landings as it is.

Thanks for letting us play your game!

Crashbot Arena by TheCodeDragon 2018-08-14T18:03:51Z

fun game! I've seen this use of the theme in a couple other submissions but I like the mech idea here. Also pleasantly surprised when some of them started breaking into smaller parts, that was cool. Music is good and the controls are smooth - I just wish I would shoot faster, I think that would be more satisfying, especially since you have bullets cancelling each other out. I enjoyed your game!

Shrinking Dungeon by DutssZ 2018-08-14T05:42:34Z

This is what I like to see! Got to 52, and the concept worked really well. It was nice how simple the controls were, and I slowly created walls around me without realizing. I think the enemies should slide a bit around walls so that they don't get stuck, and then it would be easier to wait and plan when to kill the enemies.

I had a lot of fun with this one!

Snobs like it clean! by GentlemenTeaparty 2018-08-14T16:24:02Z

Pretty silly and original idea, I like it! The upgrades / new furnaces kept it fun for a good while

Judged! by LarrySeinfeld 2018-08-14T00:52:11Z

Brilliant game - got to day 31 but it wasn't easy. I thought I might be able to break the balance by charging rich people exclusively, but turns out that caught up with me. Fun and worth more than one try.

Collapsing Reality by SamuelDeboni 2018-08-13T23:28:40Z

Really enjoyed this one - and definitely wasn't expecting the boss fight, that was a really nice surprise. I think the ramp-up was a bit too slow though - 1500 enemies is a lot. I also found that placing no extra Stabilizers was the way to win this easily. I could just stay in one place and pulverize the enemies as they hit the center.

Still, really polished game for a jam.

Benjamin's Acceptance by Zachary Granger 2018-08-14T02:11:02Z

@minibobbo thanks for the comment man, that means a lot! Glad you got a kick out of my stupidity

Benjamin's Acceptance by Zachary Granger 2018-08-14T21:22:31Z

Thank you so much everyone for commenting! For a really silly game, it's so nice to see positive comments. For my first time, I am loving the Ludum Dare experience :)

I had a lot of fun playing all your games!

Benjamin's Acceptance by Zachary Granger 2018-08-15T03:50:24Z

@chocolat-endive Thanks for the nice comment! Yes I'm learning I probably made the game too hard, especially for a jam where people are trying to quickly measure how much they like the game. Also yes, mornings suck. Bed time is better.

@planetgames excellent idea for a sequel, where you have to soothe Benjamin through various means as he took to many Prozacs. (Thanks for playing my game)

@beard-or-die Thanks that means a lot especially since there's so many better games to play right now. But hey, Denial is still early on so if you're frustrated don't worry too much about it. I'm learning I probably made the game too difficult for a Jam. It's my first, so I'm still trying to understand what people might be looking for. Thanks for the comment!

Old Hag VS Cat by sankacoffee51 2018-08-13T23:45:17Z

I could say what I want about the grpahics and feel of the game, but I was crying laughing so 5 on Humour.

Man, the controls were bad though! I hope you know you can just look down until your character is upside down... but maybe that just adds to the charm.

The Human Resources Manager by Humpert764 2018-08-14T18:20:45Z

I love the dark humour on this one. Also a good concept to try and earn money so you can decimate the population, but also not go overboard with it. I was doing good until I tried the plane and... I guess glitched the game?woops.png

No Space For Corpses by bigboyenzo 2018-08-13T23:03:39Z

Enjoyed this one, good idea for the theme! Like the others mentionned though, I feel there was too much open space for the amount of enemies. My suggestion would be to make the spaces a bit smaller and the enemies weaker, so that killing them isn't the issue but maneuvering around the bodies is. Also the sound was REALLY loud!

The "bosses" and upgrades were cool though - I ended up cornered by a ton of zombies and that's what killed me. Appropriate to the theme and was a lot of fun :)

The Gentle Giant by Red Pill 2018-08-14T21:19:55Z

Very fun game, I feel bad because my instict was to smash all the houses and then I read the instructions.... It's a little bit glitchy if I try to step too soon - the giant will just wait until he can smash a house, very strange. Otherwise the concept worked well and the presentation is awesome!

Backey - Your Personal Backpack Manager by Horun 2018-08-14T17:55:14Z

Really well polished for a Jam game. However I don't feel like I ever really ran out of space, but instead I was having trouble picking everything up from the ground fast enough. If the enemy loot was a bit spread out, that might help. I also think the sword doesn't last long enough - it owuld often drop from the warrior's hands before a fight was over.

That said, I laughed when I pulled a sword out of my backpack and a bunch of food came flying out with it. Fun idea.

Inventory Quest by acfaruk 2018-08-14T20:58:41Z

Fun game! I think a lot of the feedback is fair - the inventory is a bit too big and there's no apparent goal until you lose, which means you have to let yourself lose once you think you've found the best piece of inventory you likely can.

It would be nice if there were basic enemies or something along the way that would use up a piece of armor or a weapon, otherwise cause a game over. That, and maybe a score that can keep raising the longer the game goes on, so that it doesn't feel like you have to let yourself lose.

I only have that many comments because I enjoyed playing it though - very simple and addictive. Thank you!

Cosmic Escape 1999 by Chocolat-Endive 2018-08-14T21:45:39Z

This was so simple, and I think that's part of why I loved it so much. A lot of attention seems to have been put on the atmosphere with the graphics and audio, and it really sold the game for me. Great entry, glad I got a chance to play it.

CrumbleDungeon by Celdur 2018-08-14T21:32:39Z

This was fun - nice to see a game that took itself beyond just the crumbling floor concept. A bit strange that I had to pull a weapon into my inventory, and then into my weapon slot instead of directly. Otherwise, everything was functional. I died to an enemy that move over a tile with another enemy in it - which broke my weapon and killed me in the same turn. I cursed a bit, then laughed. Fun game.

Alchemize by stavu 2018-08-14T20:23:24Z

Interesting idea, nice to see a game that's so easy to understand, but has a lot of depth to. it mostly resulted in empty tiles, but I ended up figuring out ways to force gems which was fun. Really clean and polished!

Footprints by monetai 2018-08-14T21:13:20Z

Really cool game. How did you manage to do the lighting? I'm very impressed with that. The game is very unforgiving though, the balloons can come from behind fast, and kill you very quickly. I think it would more forgiving if touching a balloon also shrunk the arena size. The whales were really good for mood, and changing the colours is a really nice extra feature.

Glad I got a chance to play your game!

Footprints by monetai 2018-08-14T21:38:51Z

@monetai thanks so much for the reply, I'll take a look at the source code - I have no experience with shaders so this will be a good start :)

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Planet Hopping by Hjalte 2020-10-08T01:14:07Z

Very nice game, fit the theme well but in a creative way. I thought the music and art were fantastic! The gravity was a bit wonky if you jumped directly under a planet, but otherwise I wonly wish there was more. Great entry!

LOOPING ROBOT FLAG FOLLOWER 9000 by Kevin Prehn 2020-10-09T01:45:38Z

Love this idea, good job thinking outside the box for this theme. I'm surprised at how many puzzles you managed to put in this, and it was fun figuring out how to use the mechanics. Great entry!

LD47 game by tomhunt 2020-10-08T02:11:45Z

I thought the idea and presentation were great, but the driving mechanics deifnitely needed more work. It got more interesting once I realized braking allowed me to turn sharper, but overall it still felt too hard to control. I wanted to speed but couldn't.

Good use of the theme, I like that each loop added new obstacles.

Just Again by zeu31 2020-10-08T02:00:14Z

Very simple and easy to understand. Like the others have mentioned, a score would be nice otherwise it doesn't feel like I have a drive to keep playing. Good entry!

Loop around in a cycle by fraanns 2020-10-11T18:33:56Z

Really nice concept, and I like how much you managed to make out of just clicking the screen. I think my only complaint is that the blue arrows are sometimes too small or should maybe home in on enemies - it's very hard to line up a shot and I often got impatient so I would try to just move around the obstacles instead of shooting back. The song also doesn't seem to loop, but I liked it. Clean graphics too, looks like you added some nice post-processing. Good job!

Telefun by Don Fouts 2020-10-08T02:31:35Z

Great presentation and concept - it's only hitting now that being on customer service calls feels like you're in an ednless loop. I recently dealt with a car sitation that laste for months and this hit home lol.

Really funny and good idea, my only criticism is that manipulating the objects was really, really difficult. Started to feel less like a puzzle and more like a fight against the mechanics. Overall though, I had a good time and I like how clever it was!

Ping in the Loop by alejandrodlsp 2020-10-09T02:18:31Z

Really enjoyed this one, great job. The art style and music were very inviting, and the gameplay was very intuitive. For a Jam game, this was really polished and well thought out. I'm glad I got to play this!

Haighper Lewp by mmiddleton 2020-10-11T06:39:33Z

Loved the music and the use of path-finding, that was a nice surprise. I played the game before looking at the other reviews, but I agree with the feedback. The solution was confusing since I got sent back to the start, and the keys chosen to interact with objects were a bit clumsy.

Despite that, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and moving around interacting with different objects to find the solution. This is a really nice, relaxing game.

Black Hole by Zayah0_0 2020-10-08T02:19:16Z

It shows that this was rushed, but honestly you had a fun idea. Really easy to understand and play, and the different levels kept me playing. I wish the enemies were a bit easier to kill as they swarmed you far faster than you could deal with them, but I really enjoyed this one!

Loop City by bassguitarbill 2020-10-11T18:26:02Z

Great job on this game! The steering was really hard to get a hold of, I think because it happened in 8 sharp angles instead of a smooth rotation, and also because the edge of the buildings were too easy to get stuck on (Would have been good if you slid more along the side of buildings, or if reversing happened faster).

That said, I really enjoyed the game and found there was a ton of charm in it. The text is funny, the graphics are very clean and look good, and the idea is great.

Wake Up by rvenson 2020-10-09T02:04:08Z

Loved the mood on this one. Really good design and music, although I had some trouble figuring out what to do so instead I just started climbing various pieces of furniture until I could get on top of the cupboards.

Was it the right way to play? No, but I had a lot of fun. Great game.

Loop Guy by LarrySeinfeld 2020-10-08T01:17:36Z

@gautstafr @hjalte thank you so much for the compliments!! We're mostly hoping you get a laugh out of it and it sounds like that worked  I had a good time making that song...

We definitely aimed too big and had to cut corners - I added a guide in the description on what the levels are and some tips on what to do. The ending is worth getting, I promise you that...

Also yeah that revolving door is a test of skill. Maybe we went overboard. Whoops!

Loop Guy by LarrySeinfeld 2020-10-11T06:03:55Z

@pedrocoden Thank you for the compliment!

@crazybot Perfect - it felt like a fever dream making it too. I'm glad you had fun playing it and thanks for the feedback! Sorry about the stairs :) I'll hold back next time

@kszaku Thank you so much! Hopefully you got a good laugh out of it.

Loop Guy by LarrySeinfeld 2020-10-11T18:17:10Z

@bassguitarbill Yess Katamari is awesome, that's a great compliment! Thanks for playing!

@fraanns I love to hear that - it's the best we could hope for :)

@joror Thanks for all the compliments, I'm super happy you had a good time with it.

@amin-jk000 You're too nice - thank you so much for playing!!

Light footsteps after the rain by Chocolat-Endive 2020-10-08T01:02:09Z

Really enjoyed this. I'm always afraid that the submissions will try too hard to stick to the theme and this was a breath of fresh air.

The music is great, the concept is simple and freeing, and I enjoyed the writing. "Can paths extend over the roads? Can roads extend all over the world?". I liked that line.

The memory at the end was a perfect way to end it. I kind of wish we got to see what everyone added in there, but the idea is still great.

Around The Jungle by Makbeard 2020-10-09T01:29:12Z

Fun concept, but I was really confused on what to do. Kept flinging around the level without being able to find the goal, or understand the loop you wanted me to do. I also agree that some feedback on where you were aiming would be nice.

Good mechanic, just needs work on fleshing out the rest of the game I think!

A Loop to Save The World by Crazybot 2020-10-11T06:25:16Z

This was absolutely awesome. It was really fun figuring out the different puzzles and the combination one at the end felt really clever. I'm surprized by how much you managed to put in here considering it was just 72h. The 3D models are great all around, the simple physics and item swapping works great, and the rewind mechanic was really cool.

The fighting was a bit easy to "cheat" by hiding around a corner, but that's a minor complaint considering how much fun I had playing this.

The experiment by Brice Mahier 2020-10-09T02:10:49Z

Really nice concept! I think it could have used an increase in difficulty somehow because it feels like I could have gone forever, but I enjoyed the idea.

Crazy Roundabout by ArmenBalian 2020-10-09T01:08:13Z

Great idea, I just felt it was hard to understand how fast the crash gets cleaned up. It also felt like the best solution was to stick to the inside track, otherwise everything else was too chaotic to handle.

Really great use of the theme though!

Spectre Circuit by Theg 2020-10-09T01:19:07Z

This was surprisingly fun - such a simple concept but it shows you took time to make the controls feel good. It really clicked once I lost one of my laps and had to crawl back into a win. Loved the simple graphics too. No fuss, you got right to the point with this game and I love it!

TimelineTV by Zimirix 2020-10-09T01:52:04Z

Wow, I'm really impressed with the quality on this one! Love the graphics, audio, and use of the theme. I think a wind-up for the zombies would have been nice so that I'd have a chance to get close and dodge them, but that's a minor complaint. Really enjoyed your game!

Space Loop by sergei201613 2020-10-08T03:16:20Z

This was a great entry, the visuals were fantastic. I loved the idea of the 2 minute loop to improve my skill / planning until I could beat the game. Solid atmosphere and sounds, possibly my favourite entry in the jam so far.

RUFF TIME by rickropes 2020-10-09T02:33:03Z

YES!! This is my favourite game of the jam so far. Loved the art, music, and great puzzle progression. I just kept wanting to play - really well done. I'm really glad I got to play this :)

Stuck In a Hoard (While Looping) by WitekWitek 2020-10-09T01:35:00Z

Controls and graphics were nice and polished. Good idea, but there wasn't much that was driving me to do anything special - it seems like I could just keep going in circles. The obstacles were a nice touch but I think they got pushed by the purple balls so it didn't pose much of a challenge.

Great core idea, I liked it!

Bunny 7: Scorpio Cobra Operation by Vaulkhar Alexis 2020-10-08T03:02:26Z

Really good presentation with the graphics and music, but I'm very confused by what the game wants me to do. The speed felt out of control and would send me flying across the level - it felt more like a punishment than a tool. I think there was a lot of potential here, just needed to be more clear on what to do I think. I'm glad I tried it!

DashLoop by 6meon 2020-10-11T06:55:17Z

Good idea and presentation! Gamepad support was nice. The movement seemed to freak out a bit if I was trying to move during a dash - I think it would send me flying left and right instead of accelerating like I was expecting. Because of this, I mostly sat still and let the dash do all the work. Congrats on the submission!

LD49 — Unstable

All I Want Is Cake by commanderstitch 2021-10-06T03:39:16Z

a "bipolarPolarBear" is the best thing to come out of this jam. Clever interpretation of the theme, and the gameplay was simple enough to give a few tries until I got my

cake cake !!!

You won't believe your result from this personality test! by allthebees 2021-10-05T04:29:21Z

Wow I burst out laughing a few times, this was hilarious. it's nice to find something so unique in an LD.

Meltdown: The Complete Guide to Reactor Maintenance. by triggthediscovery 2021-10-06T03:19:58Z

Very steep learning curve for a JAM game, but I loved the idea and the atmosphere. The music was really nice, and the visuals felt perfect. The shaders used for each screen looked amazing, and made it feel like I was really analyzing visual data. I didn't really understand the tools too well and brute forced my way through the solutions, but it was still a good experience that stood out from the other submissions

Platform Fall by chaosbrick 2021-10-06T03:06:27Z

Love the music and visuals of the game. Really nice mechanics that kept building up. Got pretty tough, and I think the double jump felt a little restrictive, but I had a lot of fun playing this!

Project Earth by anstabo 2021-10-05T04:40:02Z

Very impressive for an LD submission. The graphics are incredible (I honestly enjoyed watching the sun engulf me), you created a gameplay loop, and the mechanics are simple but have depth. Nice touch of dry humour too, this was great.

The Show Must Go Down by tykenn 2021-10-06T02:39:16Z

"And so the Hero and the Princes 'Won', learning absolutely nothing." Really original idea, and it was fun to mess around to try and get a few different endings to happen. I had some good laughs at the dialogue, great submission!

Un-Stable by Lychee 2021-10-06T03:28:38Z

Alright alright, well done on subverting the theme. This was pretty funny, and actually fun to play. Felt tough at first, then I started being more careful with dodges and using the missiles wisely. Really fun entry!

Disturbed Void by haivron 2021-10-06T02:59:39Z

Double jumps and wallkicks? Sign me up. I love this game - very easy to jump into and understand, and the art style is great. I had a lot of fun trying to beat my score to unlock each ability.

Pendulum Postman by mrchip 2021-10-06T02:53:50Z

The most people I've seen in one place since Covid started. An amazing entry - great art style, super easy to jump into, and didn't overstay its welcome. 3 levels that ramped up the difficulty bit by bit. Felt very polished for a jam game. It felt satisfying to get the mechanics down and use both hands to speed through the levels. I liked the little shortcut at the beginning of level 2, made it fun to play through a few times. I love it!!

Rocky Road by thefatgalaboo 2021-10-05T04:33:01Z

holy heck that is one strong grappling hook. This was nice and short - good use of the theme and levels escalating in difficulty. Very nice!

The Trials Of Yoltic by Antom 2021-10-06T03:24:08Z

The art and chiptune music is fantastic! The mechanics were a bit floaty but once I got used to it I had a blast playing this entry.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Tiny Fairy Escape by fullmontis 2024-10-09T02:04:39Z

Fun game! The cursor is only an issue with the browser, but the downloaded version worked great, and I like how the cursor moves across the screen when you go into a new room.

The puzzle ideas were really nice, and it was cool to figure out how to escape. I wish that fainting or getting captured completely reset things, so that I couldn't spam faints to beat the game. Otherwise, really nice idea and it would have been cool to see more levels!

Enter the mines by ownedstuff 2024-10-09T02:23:51Z

Wow, for a gamejam that is seriously good atmosphere. The audio / visuals are excellent and made things really tense. I unfortunately got stuck in the cart one attempt, and didn't make it super far the next attempt, but I liked what I played. Also thanks for sharing so much info about your experience! Great game

SolarFactory by LarrySeinfeld 2024-10-09T03:01:15Z

@thechadrampage thanks for playing our game!

@tsaot oops - you need to press space to run the "simulation" and see the planets start their orbit. We'll update the description, thanks for leaving a comment!

Kwakerz by wheelsx 2024-10-09T01:44:24Z

Now THIS is how you make a gamejam game. It's stupid funny, straight to the point and simple to understand. I spent way too much time trying to get a high score.

Nice job

Tiny Bio Computer Virus by Vladimik 2024-10-10T23:05:36Z

The idea is really cool - battling computer viruses and managing a facility sounds like fun. I liked the animation and particle effects, but I was a bit confused about how to make progress. Some more information in the game or on the page would have helped, but still it was fun setting up squares to figh the red ones. Nice game!

A Little Garden Prank by plasticsword 2024-10-09T01:52:58Z

Jon straight up got gnomed. I liked that you could punch with both mouse buttons - it got me frantically clicking and running around. I also clicked the quit button by accident, but I had a great time playing!
