SO GOOD! My favorite jam game so far :) :) I love the narration. The simple art style also goes well with the ridiculous controls.

Really clever concept. Feels like those funny X simulators you see on steam. LOOOOVE the narration and MY GOD the ending is incredible! You are an artist, sir!

minibobbo 2018-08-14 01:52

That was extremely rewarding. At first I thought "This is one of those artsy depressing games" but then it goes quickly into absurdity (I really enjoyed the description of Benjamin's clothes) and the utter flailing around of Benjamin just creates this wonderful absurd mood. Well done!

Edit - I'm not sure how to rate fun. Either very low or very high and I'm not sure which...

@minibobbo thanks for the comment man, that means a lot! Glad you got a kick out of my stupidity

That was amazing. The narration is beautiful, the gameplay makes so much sense, the theme of the jam is fully embraced... Thank you for the experience !

When I thought it couldn't get better It got better. Every aspect of the game is a masterpiece of modern entertainment . The graphics , the sound , the game-play . There were bugs (my characters head was stuck in a wall , so i couldn't continue playing) 10/10 would recommend.

Wow, that was an experience. The core gameplay is not as exciting, as the metaphors and narration are, but that also seems to be by design. The writing, voice-acting, and story telling are all top notch! Creates a great/depressing atmosphere.

I would have liked a _bit_ more of your hoarse voice, guiding me through the mess that has become Benjamin's life, as I played the final ~5 minutes moving Benjamin's life-less, ragdoll body without narration.

I love seeing a simple, yet well made, emotional entry such as this one. Absolutely awesome ending! To anybody struggling with beating this game: Hang in there, it'll be worth it! _(Same goes for real life situations and problems, you can do the thing!)_

This game completely lives from the audio. Without it I would rate it mew but with it that totally changes and gives also a certain meaning to the graphics. Awesome achievement. This is what games should be about IMO, keep me engaged to progress because I want to know how it continues.

Very very strong mood in this one. The narration really set the mood, I felt like I was working 9-17 there for a while. In a dragging, slow, annoying and entertaining way that is. Great storytelling. Visually not that complex, I'd say it's functional. And it works. So it's good. Had a depressing time. Great game.

Thank you so much everyone for commenting! For a really silly game, it's so nice to see positive comments. For my first time, I am loving the Ludum Dare experience :)

I had a lot of fun playing all your games!

chocolat-endive 2018-08-14 21:38

One of the best Ludum Dare entry I've played so far. I LOVE the audio. It's quite difficult, but hey, Benjamin looks just like me in the morning. And my mornings are always difficult.

planetgames 2018-08-15 01:07

Benjamin needs some Prozac

beard-or-die 2018-08-15 03:21

Since people are talking up the ending, I will try again later. I got to "Denial" and then I was stuck in a room and didn't see a key anywhere.

zachary-granger 2018-08-15 03:50

@chocolat-endive Thanks for the nice comment! Yes I'm learning I probably made the game too hard, especially for a jam where people are trying to quickly measure how much they like the game. Also yes, mornings suck. Bed time is better.

@planetgames excellent idea for a sequel, where you have to soothe Benjamin through various means as he took to many Prozacs. (Thanks for playing my game)

@beard-or-die Thanks that means a lot especially since there's so many better games to play right now. But hey, Denial is still early on so if you're frustrated don't worry too much about it. I'm learning I probably made the game too difficult for a Jam. It's my first, so I'm still trying to understand what people might be looking for. Thanks for the comment!

Wonderfully hilarious! I found the absurd movements from Benjamin very entertaining. I definitely got more than i signed up for when i played this. The narration was excellent and really added to the experience well. Looking forward to seeing more from you in the future!

benjamin-armour 2018-08-15 14:19

neat idea, unfortunately didn't get far. only got to the key part because... well it was a bit depressing... because my name is Benjamin and it was too much real for me XD

manusaiz 2018-08-15 16:52

Hilarious absurd humor here, I must confess I espected a different ending, but it was a solid entry nevertheless, pretty much in line with Beginer's guide type of games.

Good job!

the-tophat-demon 2018-08-15 22:39

It would have been much better to have an indicator for when you have a key - I got stuck on "Depression" because I kept thinking I had gotten the key and then shimmying all the way to the door only to find out that I didn't. I enjoyed the ending, and I enjoyed the narration, though I would recommend splitting it up into chunks and playing one chunk per level in order to give the player a little something to look forward to. That does contradict the depression theme, but it would also make the game a bit less dull, so it just depends on your creative vision. I still think the game is worthwhile to play; it has its good moments.

Can we get some DLC for this?
