LD42 — Running out of space

Its Time To Stop Running by tinykidtoo 2018-08-14T21:07:15Z

It's a neat concept. However, the graphics and sound are quite bland and unpolished. The big alien dies very quickly, and the slugs just kind of follow you around, so I found the game to be much too easy. I did find it neat how the enemies could travel through the ventilation system (I'm assuming that's what it is). I would love to see this game in a more fleshed out form. It would be better if, perhaps, the slugs could try to flank you from different ends of the ship, or if the player started out with no weapon and had to find it, or maybe just give the player less ammo and the alien more health. Still, jamming is hard, so good work! Hopefully you had fun.

Very Original Puzzle Game by Devastus 2018-08-14T21:19:42Z

The lack of levels is its biggest weakness. The last level was the only one I found somewhat challenging. Still, this game looks quite polished and neat despite its rushed development (I especially enjoy your use of color) and the sounds are satisfying to hear. Good work!

From Hell by bog13 2018-08-13T20:08:50Z

I found it quite enjoyable, even if there's a little bit of trial and error involved in the branching pathways. The appearance of the levels are also kind of drab. However, I really liked how each level had its own primitive little theme song; it gave me a nice sense of progression. I also got the following error after beating "The Limb": ERROR: load_interactive: Condition ' err != OK ' is true. returned: Ref() At: scene/resources/scene_format_text.cpp:1225 ERROR: Failed loading resource: res://Levels/../VictoryMenu/VictoryMenu.tscn At: core/io/resource_loader.cpp:186

Cave Dwellers by Cheesey Bob 2018-08-26T20:25:15Z

The audio is very unpleasant. I find that sometimes the sound plays really quietly, and other times it plays so loud that it hurts my ears. Otherwise, I like this game quite a bit. The graphics are neat, and so are the mechanics. It really had me stumped, but that's what a puzzle game is supposed to do.

Cave Dwellers by Cheesey Bob 2018-08-30T03:02:56Z

@cheesey-bob Well, playing it again (same downloaded file) the audio sounds completely different. I guess it was glitching out the first time I played the game? The sounds would play real quiet, and occasionally they would play ear-burstingly loud and cut themselves off halfway through. When the audio works, its not too bad.

Ultimate Boss Battle of Doom by Gurbx 2018-08-13T18:57:48Z

Something about the character's collisions confused me quite a bit. I often find myself getting killed by something without it being apparent how or where. I think the fact that he's on a pogo stick makes me think subconsciously that my character can jump over those gaps in the floor, but that kills me. Still, I enjoyed the concept. The graphics are nice, and the gameplay isn't bad either. Muscular men on pogo sticks are always welcome. Also, you're about one word off from copying the title of my Ludum Dare 31 entry :p

@gurbx No problem, I do indeed have a link to that entry: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=9926

PĂ–SITRIS by shinyogre 2018-08-17T03:19:16Z

It's Tetris. Tetris is still a great game, but this edition does almost nothing new, which is my main complaint. Everything else is pretty nice. The art style is cohesive and the sounds are satisfying, and the messages are amusing; this game is truly dripping with sarcasm.

Tight Rooms by Aszu 2018-08-13T14:58:57Z

The difficulty curve is a little slow for me, but I liked it! The later stages were quite shocking, ferocious, and enjoyable.

The Last Floe by LeoRototo 2018-09-04T03:10:43Z

My primary complaint was that the game was too easy - more of a test of memory than a test of skill - and could possibly use a little more depth, but you fixed the difficulty pretty nicely in the post-compo version. I think the game could be made a lot more interesting if there were more variation in the hazards that you encounter (I'm not too sure what else you could make "Orange Face" do, though). Otherwise, I found the game quite enjoyable. The graphics were neat, I liked the concept, and the president's overblown visage put a smile on my face.

Running out of Space by ZozeR 2018-08-21T03:06:22Z

I have played both versions of the game so far. My biggest issue is with the difficulty. Normally, I like myself a tough as nails game, but I think this game could feel a lot more fair if, perhaps, the projectiles were made to be more visible and the laser-beam enemies had some kind of indicator for the timing and length of their attack (because they often damage me while they're off-screen and I can't see them.) Otherwise, I adore the weird aesthetic to this game and find the concept quite interesting. It's still fun, but I can't get past the second level, but I'm also a bit tired.

Benjamin's Acceptance by Zachary Granger 2018-08-15T22:39:33Z

It would have been much better to have an indicator for when you have a key - I got stuck on "Depression" because I kept thinking I had gotten the key and then shimmying all the way to the door only to find out that I didn't. I enjoyed the ending, and I enjoyed the narration, though I would recommend splitting it up into chunks and playing one chunk per level in order to give the player a little something to look forward to. That does contradict the depression theme, but it would also make the game a bit less dull, so it just depends on your creative vision. I still think the game is worthwhile to play; it has its good moments.

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-02T00:34:55Z

I played it on the web and found that it got laggy often and the controls were sometimes unresponsive (I'd guess the latter is more of an engine problem). Movement felt sluggish as well. Yet, this is actually the best game I've played so far! These people have praised its strengths already (graphics are sweet, but could use a little polish). Gameplay was very satisfying, I would certainly play this again! I was most impressed by the open map design and the large map; it allows me to make each run unique.

Homos Save the World by atom0520 2018-09-03T03:20:56Z

It's disorienting, but silly, and it's pretty good for what it is. You seemed to have addressed most of the game's problems in the update, so I won't reiterate on those. I would recommend finding a way to get rid of that motion blur on the FPS controller; it makes the game even more disorienting. Also, you should look into a tool called "Resource Hacker" to change the icon on your executable. I find the way that the player moves around on a small, spherical ground quite fascinating; I feel a desire to explore that kind of movement further in a future creation.

Plag by OiledOwl 2018-09-01T19:34:30Z

I find it unsettling that I cannot close the game using alt+f4. I also encountered a black screen after level 5 or so, which turned into the game over screen when I alt-tabbed back in. I enjoy the concept quite a bit; even without sound, it feels absolutely sinister, and I like that. Otherwise, the things I have to say about the game have already been said.

Crate Chaos by TaliOS 2018-09-04T14:22:13Z

The fact that everyone thinks your art is good except for you is a sign that you're improving as an artist : p. The puzzles are pretty open ended because the crates are so unpredictable. That's good because you can come up with many different solutions, but it also means that it's easier to accidentally stumble upon the solution without having to think about it. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the game.

Footprints by monetai 2018-08-14T21:31:17Z

The gameplay is very simple; it's not bad, but it's not as engaging as it could be due to the lack of variation. Also, you should probably have a crosshair, since aiming is apparently so important. The art style is great, though. It's cohesive despite its simplicity, and I really dig the color changing stuff! Good atmosphere, too.
