LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Mother Earth: Failed Planet by NoahRo 2017-12-06T17:28:58Z

@magnega sorry about that, I changed the release name and forgot to update the link. It's fixed now.

Mother Earth: Failed Planet by NoahRo 2017-12-08T00:06:22Z

@elfcirynn and @skibisky thanks for the feedbacks!

We had a lot more plans, but we ran out of time very quickly. I wrote all of the gameplay on the last day and didn't have time for polish (or textures or audio). The tornadoes and earthquakes were quick and dirty implementations to have something to play at least. I spent too much time with map generation, especially for a game that doesn't even have textures to go with it.

I've learned some stuff about game dev and time management and hope to release a better, more finished product next time! :)

Mother Earth: Failed Planet by NoahRo 2017-12-26T17:02:22Z

@bificommander I've updated the link in the description. Windows blocks executables from unknown/untrusted sources, I don't know how to make my executable "trusted". The source code is available on github, so if you're afraid of malicious code, you can scan through the source. So if you want to run the game you'll have to ignore your antivirus program or manually install Ruby and run the code directly with the interpreter, but it's not really worth the trouble anyway :P

Grid Weaver by HacksawUnit 2018-08-14T00:55:11Z

Awesome game! Cute sounds and very nice sprites. It plays very well and has a nice addiction factor! I really love the puzzle aspect, once you start getting the hang of it, it comes very naturally! My highscore: __43__. Amazing Job! You always impress me with your games!

Honest Dan's Clutteral Damage by Honest Dan 2018-08-15T19:50:00Z

When I originally played the game on submission day, I had trouble figuring out what to do. Also, I'm pretty sure I was always encountering the game breaking bug, stopping the time from passing. After seeing your last post and watching your demonstration video, I came back to play the new version. And I'm glad to say: I was not disappointed! I had a very fun time playing the new version. It does get easy after you've cleaned up the initial clutter in the house, though. I understand that the scope was way too large for a jam game, but I absolutely see what you were aiming for, and I am excited to see any further updates! I'm especially excited to see where the organization (of small items) aspect goes.

To be fair, I will be rating this entry on the __1.0.1 version__, as this was the one released on submission day. _(Also, maybe you should have a download for that version, with the game-breaking bug fixed.)_

Excited to see where this goes!

L: An Interactive Mystery by Cercle 2018-08-15T08:10:20Z

Wow, that was an amazing experience. Voice acting and story telling were top-notch. The game conveys its story very well. The story is absolutely riveting. Amazing entry!

L: An Interactive Mystery by Cercle 2018-08-15T08:19:13Z

@dk5000p I'm not one of the developers, but I wanted to reply to some of your points: I actually gave the entry a high humor rating, as there are multiple funny elements _(Nits podcast, Zee's/Elliot's voicemails)_. I like the ending a lot; I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, rather an open ending.

Star Skipper by NoahRo 2018-08-15T01:00:57Z

Thank you all for your constructive feedbacks and for playing our game!

@bilzc10 As we didn't have enough time to properly tweak everything, stuff like animations might not look quite right. It will all be thoroughly tweaked for the post-jam version. Interesting, that you mention the jump inconsistencies, because I find that jumping works pretty well. Could it be because of lag, that you are experiencing inconsistencies? The game has some performance issues, so if you don't have good hardware, you might get pretty bad lag spikes. Thank you for mentioning this, we will definitely keep jump inconsistencies in mind, when working on the post-jam version.

@zachary-granger I am also very happy with the theme's implementation. Thanks @hoichael for coming up with the idea, all my ideas were generic and boring. PS: Thanks for letting us play _your_ game, it has really resonated with me!

@zachary-granger @borka223 @dialglex To be honest, I am very happy with the controls and physics, but this is most probably because I already played the game enough to have gotten good with it. I tried implementing the main suggestion you guys had, with making the player move with the screen, so they also move backwards when jumping, but to be honest, I found it worse and less intuitive; it didn't feel right. I will definitely play around with that mechanic more though, I probably just didn't spend enough time tweaking and adjusting the game with that system in place. So the post-jam version might have this.

@green-rail Because we were working on the level until the very last minute _(actually, the very last -25 minutes, we were late :P )_, we didn't get to test it properly; we would have probably made it a bit easier if we had more time. In contrast, I _love_ hardcore, precision platformers :) _(Some favorites: Edmund Mcmillen's games __Super Meat Boy__ and __The End is Nigh__)_ We'll try to fit a good mixture of easy / casual, and difficult / hardcore levels into the post-jam version. With a planned level selection system, it will also be nice to have an overview of all levels, and be able to skip levels.

Thank you all for playing! If you have any other suggestions for the post-jam version, be sure to let me know! You can also message me on Twitter @[NoahRosenzweig](https://twitter.com/NoahRosenzweig)

Space Golf by ctran13 2018-08-14T10:27:16Z

Very unique and interesting game concept. I like the simplicity. It does take a bit of time to get used to the gravity/ies / physics, but once you do, this is a very novel experience. I like the simplistic, neon theming, including the holographic planet textures. The audio, although not much, also contributes to the overall atmosphere and simplicity. Very interesting game, great entry!

Benjamin's Acceptance by Zachary Granger 2018-08-14T09:50:55Z

Wow, that was an experience. The core gameplay is not as exciting, as the metaphors and narration are, but that also seems to be by design. The writing, voice-acting, and story telling are all top notch! Creates a great/depressing atmosphere.

I would have liked a _bit_ more of your hoarse voice, guiding me through the mess that has become Benjamin's life, as I played the final ~5 minutes moving Benjamin's life-less, ragdoll body without narration.

I love seeing a simple, yet well made, emotional entry such as this one. Absolutely awesome ending! To anybody struggling with beating this game: Hang in there, it'll be worth it! _(Same goes for real life situations and problems, you can do the thing!)_

Mailbox Trouble by Borka223 2018-08-14T08:55:09Z

Had a lot of fun playing this! Very innovative and a great take on the theme. Awesome entry!

ground_0 by Jamison 2018-08-15T07:06:44Z

Wow, that was amazing! Huge respect for the precise pixel-collision system, I love it. I like the simplistic pixel-art and I enjoyed the music. Although I had some difficulties with the final wave, it was fun enough to play to keep me motivated and beat the game! Easily one of the best game's I've played so far!

Mars Web by RyanJavanshir 2018-08-16T01:10:05Z

This was amazing! Super unique entry! I'm generally not very good with ARGs, but this had just the right amount of difficulty _(for me)_!

This was a very fun experience, thank you for putting in the effort in making this work as well as it did!

__SPOILERS:__ I like who marsweborg follows on Twitter, nice touch! One question though: What was the clue for solving the servers on RMWOS (if any)? I just ended up brute forcing them, as it was a pretty quick process.

Mars Web by RyanJavanshir 2018-08-16T01:30:32Z

@ryanjavanshir aah I see, totally forgot about that tweet. Thanks for the reply!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Space Captain Leslie in ... Disasteroids!! by skettyNmeebs 2018-12-05T00:45:35Z

That was really fun (after I realised there are mouse controls)! The intro-cuscene was absolutely amazing, I loved your humorous voice-acting, I hope you had a lot of fun making that! Once you get used to the physics it plays very well.

One remark you might be aware of: when you fly against the edge of the screen, you get blocked but your velocity doesn't reset, so it takes a bit to move away from the edge again.

You really did an awesome job, especially for the ~20 hours you worked on it!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Stabman! by NoahRo 2019-04-30T18:31:42Z

@colin-misbach The "boss" on the second level? Yeah, we just kinda spammed enemies on that level just to kinda show-case what we did, and to have _something_ to play at least. Yeah, there's no feedback when attacking enemies; there is a knockback item, where you would knock enemies backwards, which would be some nice visual feedback. We never used the knockback item in the end, because it's kinda janky.

@nico-the-pro We do want to continue working on it, at least create some proper levels to play, because most features are in place, we just need to add content. Usually, I set-up an itch.io page for our jam entries, but I feel like an unfinished game like this isn't "worthy" of an itch.io page. You should be able to press `e` when you are touching items to buy them. This has been developed on Linux, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't work :P

@tinykidtoo The first boots item you get allow you to wall jump. So when you cling to wall, by moving against it, you can kinda spam the jump button to gain height.

Thank you all for your feedbacks! I appreciate you guys checking the game out (even though it's really not unfinished and pretty bad :P )

---

_Some more words:_ As is often the case with our jams, we start creating actual content (levels, items, etc) way too late (like one-hour-before-deadline late). What really stings, is that we really had most of the features in place, and had we just started creating levels earlier, we could have really made something somewhat fun to play. It also sucks, that we didn't get to use any of the parallax background images, that we made; we have background images and a working parallax system, but we didn't have enough time to implement them into the "levels" at the end. _Take-away:_ Start adding gameplay content earlier!

Stabman! by NoahRo 2019-04-30T22:44:51Z

@team-on You gain HP by killing enemies. The second level isn't impossible, but it's hard; it's basically just enemy-spam, to show-case some of the sprites. In the end, the whole "game" is less of a _playable game_ and more of a _show-case of un-polished/un-tested/un-finished features_. We'll hopefully be uploading a playable game in the coming weeks. Thanks for your time!

Arrow of Light by sylvie 2019-05-07T22:32:39Z

LD45 — Start with nothing

World Collector by Joe Williamson 2019-10-08T23:35:32Z

Great concept and execution with a very polished game. Awesome entry!

You Gotta Be Kitten Me by Silas Reinagel 2019-10-17T22:43:00Z

Overall great game! The Iconcat mode is awesome!

Waiting for Hot Wings: A Dungeon Dialogue [Unfinished] by HacksawUnit 2019-10-08T16:31:54Z

Such a unique idea, would love to try out something like this!

The Song of Calirum by Blizary 2019-10-09T00:38:29Z

Great card game with nice world building!

I noticed a bug though: If you spam click on a card, the card will be applied for every click (gain infinite resources, and generally breaks the game).

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-09T01:16:33Z

@celdur May I ask what OS you're running and what graphics card you have? The game requires Vulkan support to run, so you might need to update your graphics drivers. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also, were there any error messages?

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-09T01:20:45Z

@bassguitarbill Thanks for playing and beating our game! :) We didn't play-test the game enough, the later sections of the level are a bit janky and don't quite work as designed. We're planning on releasing a small post-jam version with a more polished level, etc. soon.

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-09T01:27:14Z

@celdur I see, one of our team members also has an AMD card, it worked for them after they updated the drivers. This is very annoying, I'm not sure what I can do about this.

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-15T22:40:22Z

@josh-aaron-miller The movement hasn't been tweaked enough, it definitely doesn't feel right. Yeah, the checkpoint system is pretty stupid simple; where you touch the checkpoint's hitbox is where you'll respawn, which can leave the player in a tough respawn location.

@sebastian-m I didn't put enough time into properly tweaking the movement, so it doesn't quite feel right. For the next jam, I'll try to make the controls feel right as soon as I implement them! The difficulty-spike was also not that intentional, we didn't play-test the game enough during development.

@jamioflan A visual indicator to where a checkpoint is and where you get certain features (like the jump) would have been great! We planned to do something like that, but just ran out of time in the end. I don't really consider the version 1.0.2 a post-jam version, because it only fixes two major bugs. It didn't feel right to add "post-jam" to the filename (also because we will likely be releasing a proper post-jam version soon-ish). The 1.0.2 version is intentionally listed first, because we do want people to play that version so they can listen to the full soundtrack and also beat the game :P I understand where you're coming from though. I added the change-log to the itch.io page, hope that's good enough of a fix :)

Thanks for all the great feedback! We're taking it into account for the post-jam version! :)

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-19T02:30:35Z

@bdelehoy I also like the music system :) Yeah, we wanted to add some indicators for when certain features were added (jump, gravity changes), but couldn't do it in time.

@asimov The controls and especially the wall jump weren't properly tweaked, it's kinda janky. Sorry you couldn't play it, if we release a post-jam version, the controls will be improved.

@jam373 We didn't playtest the level enough, the later sections don't really work as intended. Oh wow, you can totally get stuck in the wall there! Thanks for mentioning that! The checkpoint system definitely has some problems.

Thanks for the comments!

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-20T00:44:21Z

@brokenmirrormedia Oh, sorry about the graphics issues causing you a headache :( May I ask what OS and graphics card you are using? Maybe updating your graphics drivers would fix this, otherwise I'm not sure why you had this issue.

Working Title by NoahRo 2019-10-21T18:56:51Z

@bonevolt The game requires Vulkan API support, which is probably why it's not running for you. Doing a graphics driver update should fix the issue.

Stash by stamestratagem 2019-10-16T02:37:59Z

Simple and fun game! Had a great time playing and ~~stealing~~ _borrowing_ everything. I liked the simple puzzle-like gameplay when you get to more locked doors. I also enjoyed the music!

When exiting the _hiding-behind-the-lit-lamp_ position (great hiding spot :P) I often got caught by the ladies because the hitbox was still overlapping with the player; maybe their hitboxes are a bit too large?

I'm a bit sad that I didn't get to fully listen to the _you-are-being-followed_ music; it seems like the good part always starts right when you cannot run any further and have to hide. Would you maybe be willing to upload the source (or only the music)? Would love to give that track a proper listen.

The "family" picture cracked me up :)

LD46 — Keep it alive

Birdie Burglars by DDRKirbyISQ 2020-04-21T23:35:39Z

Love it! Gets really tough! Very fun and satisfying when you start slinging meowmies at the burglars at high speeds!

_Tip-toe-tip-toe_

Shieldbearer by yscik 2020-04-22T05:31:30Z

I really dig the simple and crude graphics! The emperor names are a nice touch, kinda gives the game a little world.

104 BPM by codyhansen 2020-04-21T22:24:58Z

Very fun to play! The beat lines up very nicely to your inputs.

Minor remark: A bit more feedback, when hitting or missing a note could be nice.

I have the urge to grind the hard level and improve my score now!

Battery Panic by HacksawUnit 2020-04-21T23:14:50Z

So much fun, I love it!

Similar to Tetris, I think you could become really good at this! As you've mentioned on the itch page, a proper scoring system would be nice, although the level number does the trick too.

One problem I have, is that it seems like my inputs don't register sometimes or feel laggy. I think this has to do with the web version. Any chance you could build some executables?

---

Anyways, another awesome entry. I'm having a lot of fun with this!

The Hum by NoahRo 2020-04-21T22:12:14Z

@codyhansen Yeah, our main focus was to create an atmosphere, and less on the gameplay. For the post-jam version we'll keep the keyword "urgency" in mind. Thanks for the feedback!

The Hum by NoahRo 2020-04-21T23:46:09Z

@ava-rae Yeah, we're aware that you can get stuck. We're thinking about a way to show the player to be careful where they walk, instead of preventing the possibility of soft-locking. It's supposed to be a part of the game, the player should learn from their mistakes and try again. There's no motivation to play again without a score though, so we're working on that for the post-jam version too!

Obviously this is just a straight-up soft-lock in the jam version. Sorry! Thanks for playing!

The Hum by NoahRo 2020-04-22T06:55:52Z

@philliptrudeau The platformer aspect of the game might have been a mistake, with the primary focus on atmosphere and all that. But well, that's what it is now :) Yeah, there's no proper ending (spoilers), it's an endless game, with the goal of feeding the bonfire with as much wood as possible. We just published a new patch (`v1.0.2`) which shows the amount of wood you fed the bonfire in the game over screen.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Hum by NoahRo 2020-04-23T01:45:51Z

@szieberth-adam Sadly, the game requires Vulkan API support to run. If it's worth it for you, you could try updating your graphics drivers. Which graphics card do you have?

Sorry!

The Hum by NoahRo 2020-04-23T01:50:35Z

@raineii You have limited time, because the bonfire's flame is constantly diminishing. So the point of the beartraps is to slow you down and make it harder to get to the bonfire in time. It's intentional, that sometimes you may have to step into a beartrap, because you can't jump. The player is supposed to learn when not to take your third wood log, to avoid this.

For the post-jam version, we'll probably add the ability to drop wood logs.

Thanks for your feedback!

Stranded by notnullnotvoid 2020-04-22T05:49:39Z

Neat game! The monsters kinda instantly swarm you, which takes away a lot of the mystery surrounding them. It would be cool if a monster would only appear now and then, forcing the player to always be on the look-out, as they would never know when or where a monster would strike. Otherwise, cool entry!

The Last Ship by FedorL 2020-04-22T01:16:55Z

Super trippy background-scrolling effect!

I'm interested in macroquad/miniquad now, I'll check it out at some point!

BTW, is there a reason the assets aren't in the repo? I like to download games, as a reminder of what games I played during which jam. But I can't run the game without the assets.

Nice to see another Rust game :)

Lost Souls by Raineii 2020-04-22T00:31:37Z

It's funny, our entry is eerily similar to yours... Great entry!

Don't taste the lava by mira 2020-04-22T05:21:25Z

071616_window.png

Showing off :)

Had a lot of fun with this! I love anything Tetris, and this was a neet twist. It felt like a proper puzzle game, with tetrominoes. I loved the "think outside the box" levels, they gave me a real "aha!" moment!

Fermi Paradox by tversteeg 2020-04-22T00:59:33Z

Had a lot of fun playing! It's very satisfying to store up a bunch of large shots and then destroy all enemies on screen with a barrage of bullets!

I'm a bit biased, our entry is also written in Rust. Props for your development setup! I'm impressed with everything being code-generated (no asset files). And congrats on your WASM build!

Happy to see another Rust entry :)

Heart Kicker by The Iddmeister 2020-04-26T17:35:06Z

Really fun and challenging! I love that you have a timer, I'm almost tempted to grind some times now :)

Minor thing: When standing on the ground and next to a wall, you do a wall jump. You should probably do a regular jump in that case.

Feed It Grapes, Keep It Alive by Mike Burns 2020-04-22T08:42:41Z

Hey, I noticed that this is a Rust/Amethyst game. 1) This makes me happy. 2) I can't launch the windows version (I'm on Linux). Would you consider either building a Linux version with ... ``` rustup toolchain install stable-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu # to install the toolchain cargo build --release --target x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu # to compile for the linux toolchain ``` or uploading the source code, so I can compile it myself?

I would really appreciate it! Would love to check out another Rust entry!

Feed It Grapes, Keep It Alive by Mike Burns 2020-04-23T23:40:10Z

Thanks for providing the Linux build! Works great!

This is really neat, a cool fast-paced puzzle game. I could totally see myself playing more of this.

My only complaint, is that the game doesn't show your score when you die. You print the survival time to the console, which is great, but also printing the amount of fruit collected would be cool!

Overall, this is a really cool entry, especially as a first-time Rust project! Props! I wish you luck on your Rust journey :)

---

@kosmik123 I don't mean to speak for the devs, but the Rust/Amethyst setup they used sadly only works with the Vulkan graphics API currently. So my suggestion would be to update your graphics drivers, if it supports Vulkan.

FROGS Training to be Heros (In a large 'wheel-thing') by HacksawUnit 2020-10-06T05:01:23Z

This is really fun to play! I love how you can really learn the mechanics of the game and improve on previous mistakes. The characters are great, I love how they all have different play-styles. Still really tough, I'm looking forward to improving my highscore!

Very glad you could participate in the end :)

Unfinished Loop by pillowPillow 2020-10-06T05:22:08Z

Really like the puzzle mechanics, looking forward to playing any post-jam versions!

Far Side of the Mirror by DDRKirbyISQ 2021-04-27T18:23:11Z

What a great experience!

Shoutout to my man, Lenny G, for being an awesome, fun guy!

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-30T22:23:26Z

Wow, amazing entry! I had more fun than I expected from a gimmicky, physics-platformer like this! The level design had a really great balance between physics and puzzle gameplay -- between messing around with the sword physics and actually thinking about how to point your sword to get through this section. The sound design and music was also very nice and lightweight.

I can already see this entry in the top-ten of one (or more) of the categories!

DRIFTDOWN by NoahRo 2021-04-27T17:45:53Z

@spaint Yup, it's pretty tough... Thanks for the feedback on the lag, I'll look into this for the post-jam version, I'm pretty sure I know what's causing the lag spikes.

DRIFTDOWN by NoahRo 2021-05-01T02:43:06Z

@jondkoon Yeah, a lives system is something we're planning for the post-jam version. We're also thinking about other forms of difficulty balancing, such as difficulty/speed settings, hitbox changes, etc. for the post-jam build. Thanks for the feedback!

DRIFTDOWN by NoahRo 2021-05-01T04:08:08Z

@spaint @strangeryann @codeforjoycaro @substain @quoc @cardboard-box @jondkoon I've uploaded an alternate settings file to make the game a bit easier, and to allow you to skip zones. If you still want to check out the later levels and songs, check the updated description for instructions. Thanks! Have fun playing all the great entries :)

DRIFTDOWN by NoahRo 2021-05-05T01:57:26Z

@maaxoom I assume you played `v1.0.0`, which we accidentally published without collisions... Check the "Hotfixes" section of the description.

DRIFTDOWN by NoahRo 2021-05-06T01:59:10Z

@vixenmink Are you running on MacOS, or on Windows and had Vulkan / graphics drivers issues? I'm aware that there are graphics scaling issues on MacOS (the game is pretty tiny in the top-left corner).

Colored Roots by PlusMinus 2021-04-30T20:49:06Z

That was a really fun puzzle game! I have no idea about colors, but I managed to learn the necessary combinations just by playing around. The commentary-text also added a bit of personality to the game :) Had a great time figuring out all the solutions!

Dig It! by Rusty Bailey 2021-05-03T21:06:03Z

Had a lot of fun with this! My highscore is __2124__, I'm happy I got over 2000 :)

CQns by PizzArt64 2021-05-03T22:27:07Z

That was really fun and addicting!

I managed to get to layer -5, with a score of __1360__ (2 deaths). It's hard, but once you get used to it it's really fun!

I don't know if the enemies can predict movement, or they just angle their shots slightly randomly, but some enemies really know how to shoot me down :)

I love the atmosphere/flow of the whole game, you can just shoot, fight bosses, die, and keep going! I had a lot of fun with this, and I kinda sorta lost myself in the game for a bit :)

Decay by KeithSwanger 2021-04-30T21:29:07Z

I was unprepared for those questions at the start :P Cool entry!

Deeper and Deeper by ishmandoo 2021-05-03T21:35:14Z

Deeper has been waiting patiently by the Chalice, passively avoiding a mysterious ghost, until finally his long lost brother Deeper made it to the golden cup aswell! It was all worth it to finally rejoice together.

Really fun game, I love the fully-voiced story-telling!

I would love a desktop build though, the web build had quite some lag on my end (firefox), especially with multiple light sources rendered at the same time. With enough torches on-screen, it could lag enough to not let me change character or effectively dodge traps and/or ghosts (ate my inputs), which was frustrating at times.

Other than that, I had a really fun time playing this and getting both brothers to re-unite again :)

Chickie Catchers by DDRKirbyISQ 2021-10-05T03:58:40Z

Such a cute game :) But man, getting three stars in all levels was kinda tough, especially in the second level! The stiff movement of the kitty tree in the second level was really hard for me to control.

Visually amazing, and great sound-effects to accompany the gameplay. Beautiful game as always :)

Sitter by NoahRo 2021-10-05T04:14:36Z

@corbeng Yup, gameplay is quite stale, we failed in the concept part of the game mechanics, and mainly focused on presentation. Difficulty scaling could be improved, to force a game-over earlier.

@cad Haha, we were kind of done with everything once we uploaded the game. We'll write a proper description and add some screenshots soon...

@nardandas That was kind of what we were going for in the end... :)

Thanks for the comments and feedback!

Dahu Hunt by Fractale 2021-10-21T19:16:52Z

Nice game, but you should have opted-out of the "graphics" and "audio" voting categories. If you didn't create the assets, you shouldn't let people vote on them.

Watch Your Step! by Rmu 2021-10-21T18:35:28Z

This was surprisingly fun, after the initial struggle of figuring out which buttons toggle which blocks!

But there was no way I was beating the game without this bug/oversight: arrow keys control the player, but don't affect the blocks ;)

Zombody's Business by Budaniel 2025-10-10T11:09:36Z

I know it's a pistol, but I would have liked to have been able to hold the shoot button to rapid fire :) I played the game on normal mode and wanted to check out the extra levels from hard, but I didn't want to keep spamming left click... so I used an autoclicker  I think the game would be better with an ingame autoclicker! :) Catchy song, I especially like the headbanging zombies in the main menu haha

Invasive Spectral Projectiles by HacksawUnit 2025-10-07T13:45:33Z

Wow, I'm blown away by the amount of content in this one :o

It was really hard for me to stop playing, I love these kinds of hardcore arcade-style games, and I also have a soft spot for shmups! (big Musha Aleste fan :) ) Having said that, I have to admit that I haven't beaten the third stage yet (because I'm too proud to use the continue feature I guess...) I'll be back... :)

I always look forward to playing your LD entries :)

Dragon Hoard by pres2300 2025-10-10T12:37:19Z

Fun game! It gets really stressful after a while, but makes properly aiming and accurately hitting the enemies very rewarding! I had fun playing, good job :)

Having Fun Yet? by NoahRo 2025-10-07T07:51:15Z

@caeonosphere Good catch! That's one of the bugs of the jam version  The inconsistently buggy ricocheting is another bug  Both are fixed in the upcoming v1.0.1 patch :) (it's way more fun with the fixes haha) Thanks for the feedback!

---

@noodlestorm I think it means: I spent too much time goofing around with animations instead of prioritizing the gameplay and playtesting haha  Thanks for playing!

Having Fun Yet? by NoahRo 2025-10-08T01:27:19Z

@revetoon to shoot, you need to hold down an aim direction (arrow keys) while shooting (space). Maybe I should mention that!

---

@exludos sorry about the motion sickness 😅 I was actually planning on adding ingame settings to disable the animations for that reason, but didn't get around to it. But now it's back on my priority list! I'll try to release a v1.0.2 patch with settings to turn off animations in the coming days! Thanks for your feedback!!

---

@ludumdaredevil yeah, sadly the v1.0.0 jam release had those bugs 😅 feel free to check out the patch v1.0.1 to see how it should have played :) Thanks for your feedback!

Light Runner by Avi 2025-10-10T13:22:51Z

That was very fun! Very cool and unique idea with generating a PNG of the trail!

For collecting points, I preferred to drive backwards, I found the fluid physics were much easier and more fun to control, if you're going for points. Here's my backwards image:

trail_capture_backwards_drifting_for_score.png

But driving forwards was also super fun because of the speed. The objects in the map were fun to use as ramps, especially when I nailed the landing :) I think it would be even more fun, if I could better control getting clean landings more consistently! I loved racing around the map in large circles, trying to round the corners without crashing into the walls haha Sadly the generated image for this seems to not quite capture the whole map, you can see the corner trails and a lot of edge trails are missing:

trail_capture_forwards_racing_along_borders.png

Had a lot of fun riding around, and the trail colors changing over time also helped with fun and to keep the visuals interesting :) Cool game!

Some Assembly Required by LudumDareDevil 2025-10-10T10:44:46Z

Very cool atmosphere! I managed to clip out-of-bounds once by having an enemy push me into the wall haha I like that when you crawl, the "clank" sounds are tied to the hands grabbing the floor, and when you get your second arm you make another clank noise! That's a really neat touch :) The explosion sound effect at the end startled me a bit, but I liked the explosion animations! I had fun playing :)

Booster Buster by Revetoon 2025-10-09T13:22:34Z

Wow that was incredibly fun! I was immediately hooked haha The game was intuitive to pick up and looked I liked the card animations! I like the whole interface a lot, it feels very natural to drag and drop your spells.

My current highscore: 651 2025-10-09_15-20.png

Great job! I Had a lot of fun :)

Call Hector by Pikario 2025-10-10T12:25:37Z

Great puzzle game! Loved the colorful style and interacting / pushing buttons felt very satisfying to me :) The bottom-left timing puzzle was really tough for me, just too fast for me  And what was the solution to the top-right puzzle? I solved it kinda on accident haha I liked the logic gates puzzle! And thanks for a Linux build!!

Call Hector by Pikario 2025-10-10T14:03:12Z

@pikario aah ah I see :face_palm: I thought something like that would be the solution for the bottom-left puzzle, I looked around but somehow I completely missed that haha similarly I was completely blind to the hint for the top-right puzzle haha Still a great game! Thanks for your reply :)

KeyboardCollector by NoodleStorm 2025-10-10T12:59:07Z

Wow that was super fun!! The pixel-art and animations were very cute and fitting as well! Had a lot of fun playing this puzzle/platformer :) I love that the main menu is itself a little level! Had a lot of fun with this, great job!!

Applause Collector by esh_k 2025-10-10T11:22:47Z

Cool game! I had fun playing :) I feel like I always had enough applause to go to the next level, by just shooting the "evil guests". I feel like it would have been a bit more interesting if you could only collect applause from "sad guests", so you'd actually have to explore each level and find all of them. Cause that's what I did, and that was fun! I like the pixel art and animations, like the two clown faces and the little wobble you do while walking :) I also really like the idea of "applause" collecting! The applause sound got a bit annoying and sounded like screams at the end haha I think a bit of random variety with the sound effects would have helped a lot. Fun game, good job!

SKYHAND by GlassMoonGames 2025-10-07T16:45:33Z

Cool game, I had fun playing! I like the panicky little human animations and the fire was also cool :) The enemy/human fighter jets/planes shots seem a bit impossible to dodge :o although the UFO has more than enough HP to survive a couple hits. The game has a cool vibe, not sure how else to describe it haha I had fun playing :) Great work!

EMBERS WILDFIRE by einfach 2025-10-07T18:34:10Z

I generally like walking simulators, it's cool that you're telling this story through your game.

I found the animations pleasant, especially the one that was a pre-rendered animation (I think?), where the player is walking up the mountain from the left to the right (where the player character looks more cartoon-ish), that animation had a very nice landscape and scenery in the background!

Here's some of my feedback regarding the "game" part of your game:

- the intro text was cut off, the first letter of each line was off-screen, although I was still able to read the text fine - I found the initial mountain climb & ember collection to be fun, I liked that the red bottom border engulfed the screen at the end of that climbing section, that felt cool - during the part where you had limited time to collect all embers in the "maze", the timer text was aligned vertically from top to bottom, each character being on another "line", which made it hard to read the time and was a bit distracting because it was overlapping the maze game. Also there was one ember in the top-left that I couldn't collect because both entry gaps where too small for the player to fit through, not sure if that was intentional as I didn't lose, but I found that to be confusing. - I liked the (gruesome) animations of the people burning, it set an intense mood and a feeling of urgency. Although I was kinda hoping to be able to "save" them by walking to them haha - in the later part of the game, there was a change in story-telling style, where the story text looked different from the start of the game (pixelated font, click to continue), and the text moved on way too fast for me to keep up with reading (maybe I'm a slow reader )

I found the style throughout the game to be inconsistent, making it a bit hard for me to properly "feel" the story. There was pixel-art (the mountain in the intro, the controllable player sprites, pixelated font) then there was a different character style (more round/cartoon-ish). I feel like the game would have benefited from a more uniform art-style.

Your style of story-driven game, mixed with quick interactive sequences is unique and very interesting to me, I hope you continue on your path of story-telling game-design! I like it that you used your game to tell a story! It made me checkout the 1996 Pat Sin Leng wildfire on Wikipedia, so I learned some (tragic) history today!

ICE BOMB RUNNER by JasmineJ2003 2025-10-08T17:27:13Z

Congrats on releasing a finished jam game!! I appreciate that you had a pause menu with sound settings and the option to restart, so I didn't have to actually restart the whole game when I was stuck! Also having the ingame help screen is a very useful inclusion! I'm a bit confused about what the "E" interact mechanic did, but I didn't really need it much to play the game :) Also I'm not sure what the Shrimp item did, but I always collected it anyway :) Good job on your first jam game! You can definitely be proud of what you accomplished, it's not easy making a game in 3 days, especially for newcomers, and you delivered! :) Awesome job!! I hope you guys continue making games (as long as you're having fun)!!

Great game! Great humor!

I like the red car ;)

Cartenstein by Iluvatar 2018-04-24T07:38:16Z

I had a great time playing this game! I even managed to collect all 12 cards :) Awesome rhymes! They were all very fun to read! Nice pixel-art. I figured out that you can right-click on a card to get a short rhyme for it, at the very end of my play-through, I'm really glad that I didn't miss out on that!

I have one question though: What was the point of the _"Red, blue, purple or mint [...]"_ clue? I wasn't able to figure out what that clue meant.

Overall, I really enjoyed playing this game! Great entry!

Cartenstein by Iluvatar 2018-04-24T07:59:03Z

@Iluvatar Ah I see, thanks for your reply :)

Harvest Doom by Fiote 2018-04-24T23:54:19Z

Wow, this game is extremely fun! As soon as I kinda figured out the meta and gameplay loop, I was hooked! It was a bit difficult to start playing, as I needed a couple tries to get going. Very nice pixel-art and audio! I really enjoyed playing this, really had me addicted for a while!

One huge annoyance (for me) though, was having to spam the space key constantly. It would have been much nicer if you could just hold down the button and it would trigger the button press a couple times a second or so.

I managed to get to wave 39 before my tab crashed. Not only did the tab crash, but also did my _audio drivers_. I wasn't able to produce any sound at all after the crash, had to reset my machine (probably could have just restarted the drivers). I'm using an out-dated version of Firefox. In case you're thinking of making a post-event version, you should probably look into limiting the amount of sounds being played at once.

Overall, had a really great time playing! Awesome entry! :)

Harvest Doom by Fiote 2018-04-25T00:05:18Z

@Brendan-Toy I know the struggle with JavaScript :P You guys did a great job! :)

Light Shaft by 0uicmoi 2018-04-25T07:25:27Z

Neat game, the graphics and music are very nice! It did seem a bit buggy with placing platforms at times; in some places the game didn't let me place platforms at all, even though they were very close to existing platforms.

Also, there's a bug with the trampoline platform: The collision of the trampoline itself works while holding the card, so you could just pick up the trampoline card, place the mouse cursor below the player, and off you go! :P

I loved the atmosphere and the music!

I really like the menu's (and game's) aesthetic! It's nice to have an options menu with volume adjustment, as well.

Overall, had a good time playing the three levels! Great entry!

Snack & Slash by Gumboot 2018-04-25T05:39:09Z

Wow, this is an amazing game! Had a lot of fun playing! It plays very well; the movement is very pleasant. Awesome art! This is a great jam entry, it has its concept and it's implemented very well! The game also looks very polished. There's nothing negative I can think of, great job!

Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-04-24T04:17:33Z

Awesome game! Love the aesthetic! Great music and sound effects! The only issue I have, is playing the game for a longer period of time; the turn transitions and enemy movements take a lot of time, this becomes a bit tedious after a while. Overall, really great compo entry :)

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T02:59:47Z

Really fun rhythm game, had fun trying to get the highest scores! The songs are really great!

It's probably just be me and my lack of rhythm game experience, but somehow the controls don't stick with me. I always get confused when multiple notes in the same row come at me (when you have to hit 2 or more keys at the same time). I don't really play rhythm games, so my opinion might be invalid :P

I really liked the menu and level select screens!

Witchbeat by dragonxvi 2018-04-27T19:21:36Z

Awesome game! Had a ton of fun playing this! ~~Nice~~ Great music, great pixel-art! Really great job with the level design! I laughed a lot during this game, your humorous writing was really fun to read! There's one game-breaking thing though... you can just hold down the 'z' button, no timing required. Was still an awesome entry! Had a lot of fun! Great job!

__Edit:__ Great music! The more I listen to it, the better I like it! Simple but catchy!

Rogue Racer by bar0net 2018-04-25T09:03:57Z

This is a really nice compo entry! I really like the mix of racing and rogue-like, I think you managed that quite well! It's nice that it has a lot of features and content (different cars, upgrades, many obstacles, and such). I see the _Rogue Legacy_ inspiration with the random car you get at the start of every run and losing all your money when starting a new run. As was already mentioned, the slow walk to the race track every time is a bit of a nuisance _( although this could also be part of the Rogue Legacy inspiration :P )_. It's quite difficult, especially when first starting the game, but it's a rogue-like after all ;)

I'm running Linux and can confirm that the build works fine! No issues, what-so-ever _(for me at least)_.

Blocks'N'Blaster by HPMNK 2018-04-25T00:41:30Z

Really awesome game! The implementation of the theme is really great, very creative and innovative!

There are a lot of additional features, aside from the Tetris game, shooting, and platforming mechanics. Like: The coins, the three types of "power-ups" (can't think of a better word) inside some of the tetrominos.

It might have been fun to add collision with the tetrominos, so you could jump onto the tower you're building. It could be a slight problem, if the player cannot jump over the tower anymore to get to the other side, although they can always loop around to get there.

Overall, you guys made a really nice jam entry! :) I think with adjustments towards difficulty and playability this could become a very nice little, unique game!

Blocks'N'Blaster by HPMNK 2018-04-25T01:09:14Z

@HPMNK Ah I see, makes total sense! Thanks for the reply :)

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-24T18:25:35Z

@GiovanniBarrottu Thanks for the feedback! I guess I haven't quite realized the difficulty of the game, as I've been playing it during development and have gotten good at it.

I agree with it needing more polish. It was getting very close to submission hour when we first started tweaking the game's settings (ie. colors, animations, enemies, ...), and I'm not too happy with how that turned out. A couple more hours of playing and tweaking would have really been good for the game.

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-24T18:30:56Z

@bar0net Thanks for playing! The game gets very hard after a while, should have paid more attention to it the difficulty.

Yes, some background music would have been nice; we were planning to implement some, but didn't have enough time at the end. Also, I had some doubts about background music even working with the game, as the rhythm would quickly offset from the enemies' tunes rhythm.

Oh totally, a reset button would have been really nice. I usually like implementing one into my games, but this time I totally forgot!

Thanks for the feedback!

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-25T00:08:04Z

@Brendan-Toy Thanks for your time! This game might help you improve your typing skills :P

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-25T03:05:10Z

@theomaniacal Thanks for the feedback! Yup, I should have definitely added a reset button.

Be sure to not break your keyboard (or your face :P )!

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-25T06:55:10Z

@Gumboot Me too, I easily get hooked with these types of games.

Oh, I never thought about the bars being difficult to notice, I see them very clearly; my monitor settings are probably different than yours. Should have given that some thought :/

Thanks for the feedback!

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-25T06:56:48Z

@Tyrod Thanks for trying it out! Yeah, I should have released it with easier settings, it gets way too hard after a while.

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-25T09:14:50Z

@Carthage Yup, background music in general would have been nice, we didn't really have enough time for the music or to implement a proper system where the rhythm wouldn't sound weird due to offsetting from the enemies' beats. Thanks for the feedback!

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-28T17:51:46Z

@agrdev Yeah, @hoichael did an awesome job on the background image (he's a beginner pixel-artist)! Yes, it's very difficult, should have tweaked the difficulty more. Thanks!

@stardynamic I like background art as well, but background music is definitely missing. The game starts off moving quite quickly and just becomes insanely more difficult as time goes on; very unbalanced. Thanks, I'll definitely try to release a more finished and polished game next time!

@TheMonsterFromTheDeep I never really had the problem with starting to type too soon, but I guess I've gotten used to the game's speed the most already. I actually increased the bars' sizes shortly before releasing, but now after the jam has ended, I think it would have been best if their size would scale as the difficulty went up, as it becomes quite impossible to hit wizard prompts when it gets too fast. The game's definitely not polished enough! Thanks for the feedback!

@MacDoom The tunes for the enemies dying were developed on the last day as a kind of last minute favor request from a friend. If we were to have done everything more timely we could have implemented a better musical integration. Thanks!

---

I should probably mentioned this in the game's description, but whatever. The game has a bunch of settings defined in the file `settings.yml` in the source code; originally I was planning to put a lot of comments in it, describing what each value effects, and make the executable read from that file so its settings would be used. The player would have had the option to tweak the game to their liking. Sadly, I didn't have time for that, and the settings file is built into the executable now. People who enjoyed the game but found it too difficult _( everybody :P )_ could have gone into that file and made some minor changes to make it more playable for them. Would have been cool if I had managed to implement that in time. Well, maybe next time :) _Thanks everyone for playing, anyway!_

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-05-11T15:38:29Z

@StrangerYann Because our mix of genres included _Rhythm Game_ we planned from the beginning to have those gray lines, I never really thought about removing them, but also that would probably break the _rhythm component_ of the game; I see your point though. In general, the game lacks polish and art (textures, animations, music, main menu, etc.). Also a reset button is definitely missing. I should have given difficulty balancing more attention towards the end, but we simply ran out of time. It is definitely way too difficult in its current state.

Thanks for playing and for your constructive feedback! :)

SSSS by PlusMinus 2018-04-27T18:24:50Z

Really awesome game! I needed a couple tries until I understood the gameplay and what to do, but once I got it, it was very fun! It seemed very difficult and complicated at first, but I quickly got acquainted with the main game loop.

Dying was always a bit of a surprise, as I didn't pay much attention to the health bar. Something like it changing its color to red when nearing death would have been helpful, but that's not necessary anyway if you just pay attention to it in the first place.

Graphics and music are top-notch! Really great work! The pixel-art is very detailed and those are some great tunes to move your head to!

The first time I beat the game, I wasn't able to buy any additional turrets. I maxed-out my armory (empty upgrade cost), but the two additional turrets were still grayed-out for me. Hasn't happened since, so I might have just been blind. Just thought I'd mention that.

One question: What was the meaning of the turrets becoming purple? Was that them reloading or something?

Overall, this is a really fun game! Great entry!

Save Witch (Platformer + Puzzle) by pillowPillow 2018-04-25T01:07:37Z

Very nice game! Nice art. The story telling at the beginning was really cute, I loved the detail with it (like the spirit's facial expressions)! It made me smile :)

Of course, some music would have been nice, but as you mentioned, you were tight on time.

I would be super excited to play a full version of this! Puzzles with these mechanics could be really creative and fun to play, and these types of puzzles are totally up my alley!

Let me know if you're gonna make a post-event version, I would be very happy to play it :) _(I'll follow you, so I'll see any posts you make)_

Real Text Adventure by honpray 2018-04-25T08:42:53Z

Very neat idea! Really pleasing aesthetic. This is a cute little game :) Best part is definitely splitting the enemies into separate letters when attacking them, that's pretty neat!

Real Text Adventure by honpray 2018-04-25T18:21:53Z

@honpray Yup I did! That was very cute! It kinda took me by surprise though, I didn't totally realize that I had just killed a tree. I don't know why exactly, but the huge text at the end made me very happy :)

DinerBash! by stardynamic 2018-04-28T20:04:09Z

This was a very fun game to play! This is something I could just continue playing forever :) The music was really awesome! Made for a really great mood while serving and bashing those rude customers! Some tables (bottom-left) are a bit far away from the food counter, so the customers sitting there would basically never get served. The pixel-art is also very neat. I like the cute hitting animation of the waitress. I'm kinda sad that I missed the stats screen after I died, because I was spamming the space bar :( Pretty sure I murdered well over a couple hundred unhappy customers ;) Neat entry!

Rackety Rekt by FlatTutorials 2018-04-27T20:43:32Z

Very fun to play! Great enemy voices :)

Overcharged by Cryovr 2018-04-25T01:33:15Z

Fun game! Started very slowly and easy, and then the bullet-hell aspect of the game hit! The switch surprised me (in a positive way). Some music and sound effects would have been nice. Nice entry!

Overcharged by Cryovr 2018-04-25T01:36:59Z

(forgot to mention in my previous comment)

When I touched the final blue charge, it didn't disappear; it triggered the switch to the next phase though, so technically I picked it up.

Just thought I should mention this.

Overcharged by Cryovr 2018-04-25T02:00:49Z

@Cryovr No worries! It's not a game-breaking bug, anyway :) Bugs are to be expected in a game jam.

Rogue Ball by ctran13 2018-04-27T18:47:47Z

Really fun game! I loved the silent, ambient roaring of the audience :)

Shump Racing by Rayquarian 2018-04-24T04:01:36Z

Fun game! I liked the random enemy movement, they can really get annoying though when they start mass blocking you :) Nice music as well.

For The Dog by theomaniacal 2018-04-25T01:58:07Z

Really fun game! Had a great time playing! The difficulty was very nice! Not too difficult, but also not easy. The physics were fun (rocket jumping mechanic)!

The theme's genres were a bit weak, as they didn't really effect gameplay; at least they were something different and gave the game a some-what emotional twist :)

I liked the story aspect of the game. Fun game! _Also, good doggo ;)_
