Great job! This is a lot of fun and I love the art.
`This is a great game! Its rather fun to play, I love the fighting mechanics!
After some tries i beat the game! The music is awesome
Yay, beat it! What a nice lookin' game! And how the heck did you find time for actual level design?
Super awesome game! I'm in love with the graphics.
Such a very beautiful pixel art <3. And nice GP!
Such tasty pixel art. I don't why i am feeling after paying your game. :) Great job!!
Awesome! One of the best so far.
Awesome! Great pixel and music
Wow, incredible that you were able to do this in just 48 hours. Sounds, looks, and controls great, the music's especially good. First entry I've played, but I feel like it's going to be one of my favorites already!
I enjoyed it!
Wish you could move a bit faster for backtracking and am salty that I got bounced between an enemy and spikes to death... but other than all good :D
Nice game! The graphic was really charming. Either my machine has some input lag as you said or I feel the window of timing is a tiny bit too small. I got used to pre-pressing after a while though, but it didn't feel perfectly synced with the beat (can't close your eye and tap it)
Great game! I like the Graphics and the Music.
I ran out of keys and got stuck, and I really struggle with rhythm games this LD.
I really like the game. And it amazes me that you were able to get it all done under 48 hours. I found the graphics and the gameplay very good. I found it very fun to play, i could probably sit there for hours playing it. While i was playing i had found and collect all the fairy's and diamonds and keys that i could see on the map, but i did not know what to do after that or is there anything after that. well done though, I am probably going to play it again after writing this.
The game is great! Amazing work :)
@GhostRunners25 - After you get all the fairies it tells you to visit the 'boss door', which is the room near the bottom of the map to the left of the room with two fairies in it. The door to the north should open and let you face the boss! I could've probably made this a bit clearer, and the door itself is obscured by the stat bar as well. Might fix this in a later release!
@AVAVT Yeah rhythm games really need input + audio lag calibration. I might try adding this in a post-jam version if I've time!
@evandowning Yeah I got that a few times - the knockback has a few bugs on it, and I might add a more generous invincibility timer to avoid that situation, as currently you're only invincible during the knockback, which is currently quite fast!
@caeonosphere ugh I'm terrible at level design! :p Hence the last room where I just jammed everything into one room as I ran out of time! There's still a huge chunk of potential map space I didn't use, but didn't want to make the game toooooo long without implementing checkpoints!
Thanks for all the great comments everyone! :D
Really great game. I liked it a lot. Graphics, animations, music... Awesome job.
A great, complete, fun, and entertaining entry, as almost always with you! Congrats, and thank you! I played it to the end and enjoy every moment.
Apparently I really like rhythm games, this was a ton of fun! Impressive pico8 skills as well!
Very neat and super cute - I loved the art and dialogue. Music was excellent. Rhythming felt a bit fiddly, as others have stated it seemed like the input window was very small, but I'm also not much of a rhythm game player.
Very solid made game! Pretty simple to play, sometimes getting challenging =)
Fantastic work as always @dragonxvi. Constantly impressed! Been following you since SlamJam and you never disappoint. Love the music! Some skills! :D
Very good game! I liked the humor and little story, also the visual and music. Gameplay was a bit random for me, as the beat was not always obvious to follow. Also I didn't understand why sometimes you were able to attack twice as fast. Maybe having a clear mechanism for that, like if you don't miss a combo, or if you hurt the same type of monster in a row ... Anyway, launching rythmmagic is really fun to do while dodging enemies, I only missed more variety in enemies and several spells. Great work !
I really liked this game. Nice graphics, nice game play. I had a very hard time with the rhythm though.
Awesome cute little game and definitely one of the more polished entries. There appeared to be some bugs where it would randomly change the room I was in, but other than that it was cool!
Oh My God - how did you manage to put so much content in 48h only! I'm very impressed but the quantity and the quality of audio and graphics assets, and also the level design, texts, and of course all the code.
The game is very fun to play too, and the music is very catchy (a requirement for rythm games). I can feel your entry will rank among the LD winners (at least, it deserves it!)
Really great game. It started to get hard when the enemies started moving. Great work.
very good game and nice pixel art,it is too hard for me
Love this game! The rhythm game aspect feels so satisfying! The only crit I can think of is that the genres seem to be TOO compatible! Awesome job!!
I want to play it, but the page can't be opened, can you please check?
Great idea, great game! Although it seemed like I could just spam Z to get the timing right. Also, good job on making a rhythm web game, not easy to do!
Solid entry! Spamming Z is a bit too effective though.
Yeah there isn't any penalty to pressing the key outside of the hit timing, and I didn't code in a way of handling keyboard character repeat systems either, so it's quite easy to game :p Easy enough to fix in a future version if I've time, or do another pico8 Rhythm game
(Also as some folk have discovered, there's a debug cheat left in that teleports you to the boss door, which is mostly useless but handy for a couple of quick shortcuts!)
That pixelart looks awesome and the fonts seem to be handmade too! Not to speak of the good (if easy) gameplay and witty humor. But in the first screen it took me a minute to get that i should press "z" (the only and a very minor complaint).
I struggled with rhythm :( BUT, the art, polish and concept is absolutely stunning. Amazing job.
Heckin' cute, but I did struggle somewhat with the rhythm, possibly because I played it in the browser. Great job!
Awesome game! Had a ton of fun playing this! ~~Nice~~ Great music, great pixel-art! Really great job with the level design! I laughed a lot during this game, your humorous writing was really fun to read! There's one game-breaking thing though... you can just hold down the 'z' button, no timing required. Was still an awesome entry! Had a lot of fun! Great job!
__Edit:__ Great music! The more I listen to it, the better I like it! Simple but catchy!
I had lots of fun playing it, I love rythm based games so it was an amazing game to play. Good work!
Wow! Really really nice!!!
Really fun game!! Pixel art is great. Very strong entry. Cannot think of any feedback other than to encourage you to continue with this project.
Super great game! Very cute art style, fitting sound effects, a catchy tune to rhythm along with, and some good humor in the dialogue. The only criticism I can think of is that there's no setback for just repeatedly hitting Z really fast, but for a jam game that's hardly any criticism at all. Amazing work here, great job!
I don't know what to say except... I love this game. ^^
Graphics are really good, the dialogues are funny and even the story!
The game mix the two genres very nice!
I can't believe this is a compo game, it is so well thought out and polished. The art especially is gorgeous, and very readable. Hitting the attacks felt really satisfying when I got into the rhythm, and very frustrating when I was missing it! I think that is the norm for rhythm games though, and I suck at them. I did find that I could just hammer the z key if I was stuck and that got me by. The writing was great, very funny stuff :) The music was nice, but a but short, it started to get on my nerves a bit after a while. Overall a really great entry!
This is a super cute entry. You hit all the marks on getting a complete game here. A basic and clear main mechanic, comedic writing, cute art and good music. I see among the comments that you can bypass the main mechanic by holding Z, but wasn't aware of that when I played, so I got the intended experience.
I am having a hard time coming up with criticism - I'd say maybe it's too easy, but I really don't seek to fail and improve over and over again in a jam game. A good idea, executed well, with a solid amount of polish.
Very impressive! The core rhythm gameplay is very satisfying, and the music and graphics are super cute.
Some rhythms felt either off or just too hard, and that one room with an enemy literally two steps from you was very hard to even last a couple seconds in without getting hit and being pushed back.
It's so easy to get cornered by those green enemies, and then it's all over, and now after the second time I really don't have the heart to start all over again
I like the music and the characters and the idea, but going from max hearts to none about three seconds after entering a room and thereby losing all my progress is the opposite of fun
really cool pico game, I don't like rhythm, but dungeons :D
Loved the art, gameplay and music! The dialogue was great as well. I found the walk speed way too slow though, and the rhythm wasn't exactly synchronized to the audio.
Super lovely art! Some of the nicest pico8 I've seen. I enjoyed the music and sfx and dialogue too. I found the rhythm stuff quite difficult, but it seemed easy to cheat just by holding down the button. I'm not sure if the timing went with the music or not. I think there's a way to sync stuff to the music with pico8 though, if you're not doing that already it'd be a good idea, "stat(20) through stat(23) return the note number (0 through 31) of the sound effect currently playing on the four channels, respectively. If no sound is playing on the channel, stat() returns -1.". I died a few times and gave up but I'd like to play more, going all the way back to the beginning and having to redo all the dialogue was a bit annoying. But amazing job!!
I really really love this game! The rhythm magic feels so good to pull off :D great job!
This is a very good game! The music is very nice and the art are beautifull! The animation for the scroll is very nice! ^^
@impbox yep I found out about stat() only _after_ I'd finished so that's how it's getting done next time :p The synchronising only really works if there's no input/audio lag on your system and you're able to get it running at a consistent 60 (which was a _baaaad_ idea :p). The button issue is I presume btnp() doesn't handle OS repeat characters, so just needs to handle that via btn() + deltas.
Awesome entry! Great beat!
Pretty well designed game, with great art and music that really blends in together. Although, I feel thatb the puzzle design was made so that it switched it up quite well, but I think the rhythm aspect of it could change throughout the game, as only hitting one button just on the beat could get repetitive. Anyways, like I said I really liked this entry, and good work.
Very well done, and one of the best entries I've reviews so far. The music, graphics and gameplay all worked - and were excellent even if one would disregard the pico8 limitations.
This is an awesome game! The music is killer, reminds me of shovel knight. I wish the rhythm parts where a little more forgiving, but overall a solid game!
Wow, amazing work! I love the art, music, sound, even the writing was charming! Rhythm gameplay felt good, and since each target was sometimes a little different it didn't feel too repetitive. Great work!
Amazing entry! So far, one of my favourites of this jam. Both the music, gameplay and graphics (I am a fan of Pico-8 graphics) were greatly done! Congratulations on the game!
This game is aweseome. Everything feels complete! Thank you for this fun game!
Lovely game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzOZLoFym_o
Although I am not a fan of 8bits music, I loved the music and I loved pixel art. The level design is fantastic and super well done. Great job!!!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

I'm staggered by the amount of polish in this game! All the juicy explosions and animation and dialogue, on top of really solid gameplay. The difficulty feels pretty well balanced too, at least for the part I played. I'm so glad you pursued this idea, thanks for bringing it!
Edit: Okay, on my second try I beat it, which means it's probably on the easy side, but I do like it that way. Also, consider putting your jam URL on the itch page so it's easy to get back here! :)
Loved it! The core mechanic is very nice and the game is quite fun to play. The graphics are top notch and the writing is quite enjoyable as well.
I only have some teeny tiny suggestions to make this shine even more... First, having a hidden item in some of the barrells would make cleaning up even more exciting. Second, the boss fight was less challenging that some of the goblin situations, maybe Shaun could fire some slow moving fireballs or drop some things you have to avoid, or such.
Awesome work! <3
your game feels like [drift hunters](https://drifthunters.online) i used to play, i like your graphic design and how to play this game
