LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Flying By Yourself by Stending 2018-04-26T08:43:10Z

Thought it was a bit simple at first, until I noticed crazy shit started happening every time you get hit by the arrows, and it gets even more crazy the more often you do it. Really cool glitch effects, nice audio as well!

Dark Soil by Pietro Ferrantelli 2018-04-29T14:48:14Z

Fantastic game, everything from the graphics to the sound to the music is top notch. One of the most fun, juicy and satisfying LD games I've played so far. It would be nice to unlock some plants that are on your side as well so plants would start fighting each other  Anyway I reached level 46.

Goal and Crossbones by SkullPixel 2018-04-28T09:23:36Z

Very nice music, great graphics! Gets really difficult really fast. One complaint is that I can't press space and top+left arrow keys at the same time, so I can't kick in that direction. Might be just an issue with my keyboard though. Other than that, great game!

Cropshots by DavidPIxel 2018-04-26T08:58:20Z

Good stuff! First thing I thought of was “Plants vs Zombies” indeed. Really nice graphics and music. I also liked how every plant has its own bullet pattern.

Some remarks - The walk speed seems really slow, would've been nice if it was faster (I know you can dash, but still) - It would be nice if you could regain health by eating the plants. - I'll just copy this from another comment here: "I ended up just having all my money invested in some ongoing plants when the time was up"

Harvest Hook by MaikelOrtega 2018-04-24T10:22:37Z

The idea, graphics and audio/music are very nice. However I'm not quite sure what I have to do and how to earn money. Also, the controls are quite confusing. Also, a lot of plants seem to get stuck under those red circles so I can't grab them anymore. I used the grapple hook on the octopus and he just flew away into outer space

Update: alright, figured it out. Pretty fun once you get the hang of it, although it would be nicer if the clouds would actually stay where you left them and not slowly drift off. Now I need to keep walking around and dragging the clouds back.

Update 2: the song is still stuck in my head

City Blocks by legavroche 2018-04-29T14:32:33Z

Interesting gameplay. After some playing I got booted into the main menu, and I could only listen to voice mails and the text was constantly changing. Not sure if intended, but kinda strange  Nice music and sounds though! I also liked how the font suddenly started changing.

Roulette Knight by Finlal 2018-04-28T09:34:52Z

Fantastic graphics and gameplay! The idea is solid as well. But after a while I often ended up in those situations where you have only a few HP left and there isn't anything else you can do to regain health except play roulette, with often deadly consequences. Might be intended, who knows. I also have to say the music got annoying after a while.

Feed the Beat by Benstar 2018-04-26T09:41:39Z

Great art and music, lots of polish and juicy animations! Although I found it got a little monotonous after a while. Would be nice to have some more variety in note types (e.g. throw some 1/16th notes in there as well, or notes you have to hold down for x beats). Also the notes weren't always synced with the music.

Snack & Slash by Gumboot 2018-04-29T14:24:43Z

Really really cute graphics and nice music! The camera was a little nauseating but that's a known issue in the web build though. I also found the attacking sound a little annoying and jarring. Additionally it seems to be missing a sense of progression, it would be nice to unlock other things over time. Maybe a cooking metroidvania?

Oni Hunter by pataya 2018-04-29T09:06:18Z

Amazing art style, effects and sound design! Would have been nicer to have an indicator that you failed and you have to restart the level, though. At first I thought the game broke or something. Also got stuck on the 4th level, not sure how to beat it.

Dragoon Drop by jhandsy 2018-04-29T08:47:04Z

Great and original game, fantastic pixel art and music/sfx! It would've been nicer if there was a faster way to do things though, maybe some keyboard shortcuts for selecting cards and/or skipping turns. Also, as mentioned above, the text rendering got messed up quite often so I wasn't quite sure what some cards did.

Binary Blocks by Antti Haavikko 2018-04-29T09:23:08Z

I think this game will be really difficult for non-computer science students  Anyway, nice polish and graphics, VERY nice music! It would be nice if the numbers weren't randomized every time you restart the level though.

Witchbeat by dragonxvi 2018-04-29T15:12:27Z

Loved the art, gameplay and music! The dialogue was great as well. I found the walk speed way too slow though, and the rhythm wasn't exactly synchronized to the audio.

TASball by fasterthanlime 2018-04-24T09:54:55Z

Really damn interesting game. Really confusing at first, but I got the hang of it quickly.

A few remarks:

- I didn't really like the time penalty. It seems like it goes directly against the idea of pinball - right now you get rewarded for losing the ball quickly after grabbing as much red dots as possible, which seems counter intuitive. It would be better if you get rewarded for keeping the ball in the game for as long as possible. - It seems pinball programs get deleted when you leave the level, which is a shame. Seems there's no way to save them. It's quite tedious to remake the same pattern every time. - Would've liked some pinball/flipper sound effects. - I also would've liked some "sensors", e.g. if the ball is near a certain trigger, jump to a certain label in ROM. So basically conditional jumps. This would allow some more dynamic programs than just things that move flippers up and down in a certain predefined rhythm. Because of that there doesn't really seem to be an incentive to buy faster CPUs or ROMs because the pattern "up-down-up-down" works fairly well most of the time.

YOU LEFT ME. by Angela He 2018-04-25T18:53:09Z

Extremely interesting game. Art, audio, dialogue, mood, story, humor are all top notch. This game is going to win this Ludum Dare without a doubt.

Honest Dan's Trout by Honest Dan 2018-04-29T08:58:15Z

Really really difficult, but also kinda fun when you realize how it works. Loved the way you can hit the tetromino while it's falling to make it exactly the shape you need it to be. Also loved the music.

Paddle Pals by Mors 2018-04-28T09:15:02Z

Great graphics and polish! I liked how the music changed when you're in breakout mode. The game is really tough as nails though! It would've been nicer if the restart was faster because it got quite frustrating after a while.

Rogue Poker by Balint 2018-04-29T15:00:31Z

Good idea, great graphics, gameplay works well! However it's really really difficult, I know roguelikes are supposed to be difficult but it would be nicer if there was a way to dodge the attacks somehow. It also seems to be lacking sound effects which is a shame. This would work great as a mobile game!

Escape by Gamekrazzy 2018-04-26T09:26:57Z

Pretty fun, although frustratingly hard at times. Had to look through the comments to get the second passcode - I think maybe the difficulty curve was a little too steep there. Just gave up when trying to think of the 3rd code, maybe I'm just too stupid for these kind of games  The music was nice but got quite annoying after a while, I have to say. Also the letter sound was kind of jarring. Very nice art though!

PROJECTIME by Bauxite 2018-04-29T12:23:47Z

@local-minimum Thank you! Having a sound effect for landing on the ground would be a very good idea indeed! I also should have made the circle on the ground smaller and more obvious, yes. Also an indicator for bullets that are on the same level as you would be a good idea as well.
