What a great game! Impressive to be done in a Ludum Dare!
There seems to be a bug though. If you select the warren but cancel, you still draw rabbits.
The aesthetic, graphics, music are all amazing!
Haha I love it. Reminds me of those 'Squash Bugs' games
Nice retro looking graphics! Loved that you had the domain as well haha! A little tutorial might have been nice, as I'm unsure what to do next!
Yeah the onboarding/tutorial can definitely be improved. It was one of the toughest problems I had with the game, as the mechanics are a bit hard to explain and I didn't have enough time to fully flesh out the tutorial. In a post-compo version, I will definitely look into the tutorial and the endgame as things to improve.
@paperjack You need to go the item generated by the workshop (table) and hold space to drag it to a building spot.
Also thanks to everyone who played
@mrspeaker What I found works is, build a tower -> dispenser -> tower. Then there will be a time/round where you need to consistently send stressed out workers to the dispensers :D
Glad you enjoyed the game! <3
@thisismyjam Thanks for playing and for the really thought out review! I agree with your thoughts - given more time a more streamlined tutorial/onboarding with a more limited set of buildings would probably be the first thing I add.
I loved the fact that as you noticed, it made the 'sacrificing' routine! That was an intentional part of my design - hence the 'oppressive' font aesthetic and the 'march' like music.
The inputs as you said are a bit touch and go. I was thinking of adding a 'glow'/'border' if someone is selected/near enough to be called, but lack of time, etc.
The controls were actually a deliberate decision of mine - I wanted to add the frantic feeling of having to move around and trying to do all these things at once very directly, as if you're some sort of dictator whipping slaves to their death and just using them mercilessly
Thanks for again for playing! It looks like I was able to convey the main mood that I wanted to bring out and the franticness of it! If I release a post-compo version I'll definitely include what you mentioned, as I believe they are valid points.
A checkpoint system would be nice, specially since the main char is so slow
Nice incremental game (y)
Fun game! It's like a turn based incremental game. It would have been great if the UI elements was all in one screen - I was scrolling a lot even in compact mode. The soundtrack was great and badass :D
Oh I love the concept! A little music and some nice battle bgm would have really brought the aesthetic together, but still impressive for the combo!
It's Kung Fu Monk!!!
That was a surprisingly fun! Super basic concept, but you have to be smart about it
I love how the sis/bro make the same amount of money as the parents :D
That was really neat! I wish it auto restarted/continued, and wish there was an option to restart (like R). Really liked it!
Short and sweet! Some sound effects would have been great
I love how the game looks! The fact that you can change the palette is a nice option
For the source code, can you upload the whole folder? I can't open it in Game Maker, I really want to know how you achieved some of the effects!
Neat! We have a similar idea - a tycoon sim where you sacrifice your own units!
As others have said the aesthetic is unique and beautiful!
The enemies not turning around when chasing you comes unintentionally funny :D
This looks really good! Shame I'm on a Mac I'd really love to try it!
I love the cute little volcano face!
I love how the little guys feel like they're marching to the music! only thing I can ask for is they should have a dance number in the end
Super fun, the tune is goofy! I agree with the comment above, I feel like it would have been better with cuter/goofier graphics. Overall I really enjoyed it!
You become a zombie as well feeding on your friends :D
They're so cute I don't want to throw them <3
Simple concept but fun and addicting! I love that it's also playable on mobile as well!
Cute, nice and bite-sized. I did encounter a bug when I put a present while near a wall (got stuck)
I like the art style a lot, it looks super cute but unsettling and the music adds to it pretty well.
This game is really fun and the aesthetic is really nice. It becomes a memorization game to know where the good items are.
I do wish the UI was a lot better. There were times where I felt like my mouse clicks were being ignored, and sometimes the indicator of what can be clicked FEELS finicky.
Cute tower defense game, wish there were more plants.
OOOOH when the switch happened and I finally got why you titled the game "Betrayed" it was such a neat 'gotcha'.
Like the comment before me I agree. I'm not too big fan of the music (maybe ur going for a sad 'betrayed music') but for a game like this I felt like it needed a bit more oomph
Prety cool concept1
Indeed :( Some buildings don't work, I'll put an edit on the descriptiopn
@Swarrly Thanks! It was definitely one of the hard parts - it just feels like two different games in one right now.
@RobinbyZhou Thank you! I had a hard time thinking of a game idea but I think the result with the mechanics are interesting!
@TimeLoad Thanks! It was my first time making audio/graphics so they translated to be super simple and it also ended up not being consistent. Hopefully my next attempts would be better!
@dirtymoonz Thanks! I completely agree. I wish the platformer was more inlined with the town building - i.e. one of my initial ideas was building a tower made the town too tall, so you can't fit on small spaces, stuff like that.
@IronyGames Thanks for the feedback! Indeed checkpoints would have been great as the downtime at start is quite long.
I wish the words were skateboarder themed, or if the words were the moves! Like typing 'Double Barrel Roll'
I love how moving is 'instant' in that it doesn't wait for enemy movement. Makes it feel like if the game was realtime, the player is 'teleporting' :)
I think that could be a great little mechanic/world building to explore upon - the player is a time lord who can 'stop time and move' which manifests as 'turn based'
really cute and an interesting mechanic!
Nice job, especially the fact that you made it in Vue :)
That was a nice game! Awesome job on the music!
The game reminds me of Gravitation by Jason Rohrer. If you could expand upon the platform segments and continue having it serve as metaphors I think it could be really interesting!
