`"Mark, wait for 10 seconds, KILL."`
I have not played yet, but this sounds brilliant!
Super nice work, as usual. I love the karateka vibe. Nice animations. I wish you could put some music in and work a little bit more on the sound effects. But it is already super polished for a 48h entry. BTW nice mechanic for the main theme. I struggled a lot to come up with something where the theme would really fit into the mechanics of the game.
The best treat of LudumDare is checking your page and seeing what kind of awesome game you made. Sick Game!
Love your animations ! They are so lively and full of life ! you can feel all the **impact** from those fists... *oumf* ! :fist:
A great compo entry, congratulation !
Such an incredible game, Art, Sound, Gameplay are just polished to the max.
Took me a couple of moments to understand fully the mechanic, figuring out when do the skulls apply, that you can collect multiple ones at the same time before applying, that once the timer runs out the skulls you pick are gone but the ones on the floor stay. That would be my only criticism of this brilliant entry, maybe easing the player a bit more before you get to the big battles with multiple enemy types.
Overall superb work from you, as always!
Great game, fantastic!
The itch.io version seems superior to the embedded version (has a splash screen, can go fullscreen, not sure if there are any other differences), perhaps you should point people there instead, until the LD embedding is a bit more mature =).
I managed to beat all but the second-to-last level, somehow that one got skipped when I died in the lower right corner right next to the door and was mashing Space or R or something, ended up in the next room ^_^. Boy were some of those last levels hard, though!
Incredible game! So well polished. The animation is beautiful. How did you make all this in 48 hours?!
You always deliver. The art style, the *gamefeel*. I've done a handful of levels, but I know I am going to come back for this one a couple more times. The sounds were the only thing that stood out a little harsh sometimes, but they add a lot to the feedback of the game, so I much sooner prefer them in than out.
Excellent entry, will come back to this!
This is my favourite use of the theme so far! It actually adds an extra layer to the gameplay, especially when you start needing more than one per enemy. For whatever reason the controls didn't quite feel right to me, maybe the movement wasn't snappy enough, not sure. Excellent entry!
Wow, the pixel art and polish are incredible! Extremely well executed, hats off to the skill on display here.
I love how meaty the combat feels.
The text in the background is a great layer of polish, makes it feel more like a complete experience.
Superbly executed prototype!
This felt really good to play. Hard as nails, but in a good "can't put it down" way, not a (too) frustrating way. The animations were really slick, the combat felt good, just great all around.
My only pieces of feedback would be a) my hits didn't seem to connect sometimes when they felt like they should have, and b) the slow-motion / freeze-frame when the enemies die feels a *touch* too long.
Super super fun. It's still the beginning of jam rating time and I feel like I've already seen how the theme can cause some normally standard genres to feel fresh again. This is no different. Instead of just walking up to people, isolating them, and beating them up, this mechanic turns it into a much more strategic fare. On top of that, you took advantage of the theme and really brought it into the player fantasy. Who wouldn't want to do the Five Point Exploding Palm on people? It made you feel REALLY good to nail 3+ enemies with it and kill them all at once. Super badass feeling, this is so good.
At first it is confusing, but when you get it, it works like a charm. Nice entry! Fantastic style <3
Absolutely brilliant!
Super nice feeling entry with, as usual, great spritework.
This is a really cool concept, and the sprites/animations are really well done. I found the timer to be a bit punishing in rooms where enemies need more skulls to defeat, but otherwise I had a great time with the game!
Took me a while to fully grasp the skull mechanic (and why it was saying not enough all the time) but once I did it was pretty fun. The game manages to lets you feel super powerful but also gets pretty difficult, so very good balance! And as always great art!
Incredible work! The mechanics, controlling, and graphcis are all so polished, making this one quite fun and complete. All I can say is that **THIS IS AMAZING**
Hi I think the source code is not public yet. Could you please update the access?
Nice game, and smart use of the theme, I enjoyed it pretty much. The graphics were wonderful, your color pallet and the animation were great. Well done!
Dayum, something about the color palette just makes this one look amazing
20/20 A classic deepnight's game perfect/parfait. Et on peut jouer directement a la manette génial !!!
Oh man, love the visuals and feeling in this game. Fun to play and very polished.
That looks so amazing. Your pixel art is great. An the karate fighting feels nice and satisfying.
Great game. 5/5 as always!
AMAIZING, The mood was what counted it for me
Seems like a best entry I've seen. Perfect feed for a theme, not just a random timer, and amazing aesthetics with combination of super gameplay
5/5 for all grades, wow
I think the presentation is really nice, and the animation is really impressive for the sprite size and limited colors. I think if this was turned into a bigger game, the melee mechanics could be fleshed out and be more complex.
really nice beat them up game and it fit the theme well! (try our game plz!)
extremely polished for a game jam. fun take on the concept
Super badass. All the mechanics play into each other really well. Pressing up and down at the same time moves you right, which is weird, but I didn't do that while playing so it all worked out.
Was able to beat it! Thought it was a bit difficult at first, but I liked how I had to figure out how to get skulls and stun the enemies with the flying kick. I also liked how you could only destroy most objects if you hit someone into them. There was a nice ramp of enemies. On the 2nd last level I think I got hurt and dodge rolled to the last level through the level blocker?
Overall had fun and great job!
Cool animation and pixel art!
At first I thought "This game looks so much like nuclear blaze" then I realised you were the dev :D That game is so good and so polished, I love it. The pixel art is so beautiful.
Very innovative and satisfying to play!
An easy but interesting arcade-style action system, it also combines the theme very well. The death mark and the skill released every 10 seconds make the game process very compact, the difficulty is challenging but very comfortable for me. But I often missed when I release the death mark to the enemy, maybe you can add a limit that only allows player to release death mark when the character is just facing the enemy.
Wow, just wow - its so cool how you made this feel like a puzzle game with target priorities etc the art is fantastic and the effects are cool and the fact that you NEED to dodge - I encountered a small bug that in the second to last level I got knocked back through to the last level - but incredible work!
Amazing game! The game feel is really satisfying, animations are on point and the game is very polish. I knew I would love this game just by looking at the main menu and I was right! Really impressive!
Perfect game. I have nothing negative to say. The screen shake when kicking is superb
Loved it! It feels very satisfying to hit the enemies, the skull mechanic is an excellent idea and the art is great.
Solid entry! Thanks for making it! ^^
Great entry! The mechanic is very innovative
I beat the game, and the stages were pretty hard. But I think I might have accidentally skipped the 2nd last stage before "Thank you for playing"? I somehow dodged past the door into the final room.
Excellent stuff
I came back at my 8 years old with my Asmtrad CPC 6128 playing this game. Love the cathodic effect and the enemies animation when beating them. Thanks for the submission
This game is just perfect! Really solid graphics and game design. It was a bit hard for me but I had so much fun
ahhh the feeling of the hits are sublime, its very polished congrats! I will save it in my favorites to play it later :D
This is awesome. I really enjoy how you can get more of the kill skulls depending on how you combine combat with environmental awareness. The presentation is great and the little pixel dudes have nice animations.
Really good game! Loved the graphics
Fantastically polished game that was super fun! Animations are excellent, gameplay and controls are tight, and the difficulty ramp is top notch. Well done!!
Super impressive compo entry! The graphics and game feel were top-notch. The concept is really cool too, one of the more original ideas I've seen so far!
I would 100% buy this game
Wow this is a lot of fun, though difficult (in a good way). Addictive gameplay and really great polish. Awesome job!
The best entry I've seen so far, honestly. It oozes great design and feels incredibly polished and complete already. It could easily be a full game akin to a 2D Sifu if you slapped some banging OST on top and shipped it as it is. Absolutely amazing job, you should be really proud of this
Managed to beat the game, definitely the best game I've played so far and extra impressive that it's a compo game! Tough to come up with any criticisms honestly, the innovative idea, the tight controls, game balance, graphics, sound effects.. you knocked everything out of the park! Awesome job!
Amazing, unique take on the theme with an ultra-polished game around it. Great work.
100/100 Great game! Very innovative game mechanic and super fun to play!
My fav so far, really genius how you made every 10 seconds into the rhythm of the game rather than a mini-goal or switch which feels like most of us fell into that trap. The polish is also superb. Top notch.
Holy cow was this great! The controls feel really nice and the gameplay is really fun and polished! The art is and animations are god tier! Sound effects are really rewarding and hooking! The whole idea is really creative! Incredible work!!
Great game, loads of fun to play. Quite challenging as well! Great stuff for only 48 hours!
This is on another level. It's my first LD and seeing what professional developers achieve in such a short time is incredible. Great entry!!
This is the best compo entry I came across so far, and I have a feeling that it will stay that way for a while.
First of all the visuals are absolutely stunning for a jam game, the overall game feel is awesome with a lot of screen shaking, flashing sprites and clean sound effects.
Controls are very simple and easy to pick up, mark mechanic is very clearly communicated to the player without the need for an additional tutorial, dodge feels fluid and doesn't feel either useless or overpowered. Enemy variety is also quite rich and every enemy is different in a meaningful way.
I wanted to give it all 5 starts but I HAVE TO deduct one point from audio for the lack of music, this game is begging for a super intense action-packed fight theme and lack there of is the only thing holding it back from perfection. As a matter of fact I did play some music over the gameplay myself and it felt awesome.
Excellent game overall, awesome job :]
What a solid entry!! Very polished and fun to play! Deserve much more attention that it has so far!!
Fun game! Nice art, pretty good controls and audio. The level with the two chainsaw guys got frustratingly hard for me. I was maybe getting a rhythm down for it, and then I hit Ctrl and R at the same time on accident, and lost all my progress. It was enjoyable up until then.
Really good submission!
hooooooooooly macaroni!!! this is a gorgeous game with so many great things!! i love the pixel art, the animation, the controls, and most of all, YOU FEEL LIKE A BADASS PLAYING THIS. very easy controls to grasp, and i love the variation in enemies and the mechanics for applying more skulls to more difficult enemies. my ONLY criticism for this game is i would've loved to hear some music in it, especially some 8-bit or some chiptunes. that would've ROCKED MY SOCKS!!! otherwise, amazing game and you did such a fantastic job in just 48 hours on your own!!!
Some great sprites and satisfying animation! The concept is genius too, though it lends itself to some tough situations when you have one enemy left that will only give you one skull at a time. Some of the sound effects are really satisfying, but a few are a bit too high-pitched, which becomes slightly annoying after hearing them so many times in a row. The only real problem I had though was with the controls: it felt difficult to aim my attacks accurately, especially at enemies above or below the player. All this aside, I enjoyed playing. I could not get very far, but I was hooked enough to keep on trying.
Great job, my only issue is that the projectile enemies are a bit difficult to deal with and also I got knocked into the last room, skipping the room before that. I only wish there was some kick ass tunes while I beat the crap out of these brutes!
Nice juice!
Amazing entry! The animations and feedback were phenomenal. I thought the enemy tells were done really well and allowed me to anticipate attacks in a natural way. Being able to cancel/stun their enemy attacks made for a nice risk reward gameplay. My one wish is for the kill moment to not wipe the skulls that I had on me, this felt like it negated my effort in a way that didn't enhance the gameplay. I could see music and light story really enhancing this game.
i love the concept! the game is very neat and fun to play! Unfortunately the chainsaw men were too strong for me ^^'
Amazing entry! Visuals are very polished.
Very beautiful graphics, and fun to play, Can't imagine it took only 48 hours. 10/10 a real masterpiece
Very polished, very impressive. Good use of the retro CRT arcade look. Impressive game!
There isn't really much to say in terms of constructive criticism, it's an innovative use of the theme, the animations are super fluid and everything looks great. The big boss fight with the guy with the gun was a bit too much for me, but I'm not exactly good with these sort of games anyway!
A gameDesign's lesson... You're a monster and an inspiration for all of us.
well made
Best use of theme I've seen so far. Game is overall well done and fun to play. Very, very impressive for 48hrs span.
It was amazing, even if sometimes I lacked the character's attack area and it was difficult to build the right movement, but in general I just got a storm of positive emotions, so thank you for such a game.
I was absolutely blown away by the graphics! Great entry!
Your games are always beautiful little masterpieces.
This is insane. It looks and play fantastic, the gameplay is genuinely fun and the escalation of difficulty is wery well thought out. It almost feels like a Souls game in terms of the combat and the challenge it presents.
I have one point of criticism: the sound design is pretty grating, collecting skulls hurts my ears :D And it's a shame that a game of this caliber doesn't have any music. Using a royalty free track would have enhanced this game even more. The only thing a "post jam version" needs is a kick ass track and better sound design.
How has no one posted a victory screenshot? That kind of thing is obligatory around here:
ss.png
Yep, it's pretty rad. Hurt my hand to play on keyboard, was worth it. Might be better served by some condition other than time triggering enemy death, but it suited the theme quite nicely.
I'm sorry if you didn't wanted to be rated in humor, the sounds when you get hit is just so stupid.
Pretty fun game ! I like the idea of ennemies that needs to be marked more than once, and that you can hit and mark multiple ennemies at once.
Horever the difficulty can be really brutal pretty fast. There is a big enemy with a sawblade that charges at you like a madman, and it was really hard to beat it with the gunner ones. There was two of them too.
It's a bit like Streets of Rage, I mean quite a lot like Streets of Rage.
Beautiful game! It was a bit too difficult I find. The annoying things: when you'd lose collected unused skulls when the timer would run out; and if the chainsaw guy started spinning just before the death mark execution animation, he'd still hit you. Art style is glorious, and enemy great enemy variety. Movement felt pretty good and animations are excellent. Overall astonishing amount of polish for a compo entry!
this fella was really hard to kill
Captura de tela 2022-10-09 105221.png
This works so well. There was a pretty big difficulty spike at the first guy who needs 3 skulls, but after figuring everything out, they whole game felt great. I love all the juice put into the game, and everything feels so unified. Great job, insane that you made this in 48 hours.
I think we have our winner here! I've played it until the end, really enjoyed it, and would LOVE to see more of it, with more possible actions from the player and more levels/enemies/enemy types
Thank you so much for this submission, it's awesome.
Really attractive and well put together action game. Approve of the in game tutorial. I did get a little confused at the skull mechanic. It seemed like sometimes I had a lot on hand and then lost them all suddenly. Oftentimes I was interrupted by the mechanic going off and after that it seemed skulls were no longer on the ground? Odd.
Pretty good. Not noticed any bugs.
Awesome game. Each room was exponentially more fun than the previous one. I managed to dodgeroll through a wall in the penultimate room and found myself in the final room. I think it was a bug
I think the general idea of stacking death marks on enemies is really cool, but I don't believe it works very well with Every 10 Seconds. Like many other games this event, it suffers from excessive waiting for the timer to run out. Maybe death marks on the ground should also expire with the timer to incentivize faster gameplay, or maybe the held/used ones shouldn't expire, or maybe the activation mechanic should be entirely different. Just my two cents, deepnight ilu
9/10
Nice game :) I like the retro vibe :)
Great take on the theme and really impressive visuals. I also liked the enemy design and combinations of enemies, on the whole this game feels a lot like Mr. Shifty. One slightly frustrating aspect for me was that I unwillingly picked up marks right after punching it out of someone, since this interfered with the optimal strategy of littering marks all over the place to then pick them up in one window and eliminate as many enemies as possible in a single marking.
Oh, and one bug report: on the second-last (I assume) level, I won without really beating it - after restarting (in quick succession?) I suddenly found myself in the last level.
extraordinary work! Cool original concept, extremely well executed. It's especially cool that there's so much enemy variety. I'd love to see more enemies that you have to attack in unique ways, instead of enemies who you just have to dodge in slightly different ways. Stuff like enemies who have to be killed in pairs/in a certain order, enemies who can't be knocked over (i.e. they don't drop skulls), or enemies who require a color-coded skull could potentially add a lot more to consider when designing/playing each room
Top notch art and presentation. I had to double check this wasn't a jam entry. Overall the gameplay feels solid and the enemy variety is really great. I found the kill marks system to be a little more frustrating than it needs to be. Losing unused killmarks between each timer loop felt really unsatisfying. It might have also been better to never waste killmarks on a bigger enemy until you have enough to kill them completely. Other than that this is an extremely well polished compo entry.
The combat in this game feels so nice.
Do we even need to say anything? Just amazing work as always, we mere mortals don't even try to compete with this level of quality in a jam game :)
This game is one of the most enjoyable ones that i've found here, the movement feels nice and the combat is simple. Furthermore even if it was somekind difficult it was really funny and enjoyable!
A top game from the comp for me so far, really clever use of theme to make a brawler much more tactical and intereting. Great graphics and polish. Would have wished for me music but a nitpick.
very pretty and polished game, with a great mechanic! it was really fun to play and to master. excellent job for a compo game!
Very polished, great concept, great art, fun to play, well balanced. Nicely done
Despite it being easy to be distracted by the *stunning* visuals and incredible game feel here, the way this game impressed me the most is in design. The concept is brilliant, thematically sound, and considers how the player will be interacting with the game at every moment. Genius.
The game experience is too smooth, so that I, a person who does not love fighting games, is also a bit addicted to, the animation of characters is too perfect.
Wow absolutely unbelievable job with this game! I had so much fun with this, definitely one of the top games I've played from this jam. The art is phenomenal and the sound pairs well with it. I had an idea like this in the brainstorming phase for this jam but man did you execute so well on it. I will say the controls of Space and CTRL felt a little clunky for me but that is such a nitpick. Amazing job!
Simply an excellent entry that stands out. Everything flows and is self explanatory. The aesthetics seem so well thought out. Very very good job :thumbsup_tone1:
This is such a fun and satisfying game to play, I hope to make something great like this in the future!
Tout a été dit du coup, je fais un petit commentaire en Français. Bravo pour ce jeu avec une énorme qualité pour un jeu de jam.
such a wonderful idea! not to mention the pixel art and smooth control, with some well designed level there's really nothing to say other than compliment. eh, well, actually there is one thing, I think I just pass the level before final level with out defeating all yakuzas, is this a bug or it just design this way. but that dose not even counts a downside with such a great gameplay.
Wow great game – really fun and clean visuals too!
Excellent! I would have liked to have the option to turn while attacking. Very good work!
Great game, pretty and clean graphics and the gameplay is very polished. Big variety of enemies and nice difficulty curve makes it much more satisfying, although at some point it's really really difficult.
I enjoyed it. Nice combat system, interesting and something I haven't seen before. Felt good although some of the enemies felt overpowered. But then again I beat the game pretty easily so maybe that's just not true. The more I played the more I understood that if you avoid the skulls first, let them pile up and then deal a megadeathblow to multiple enemies the easier it is (and that it isn't after 10 seconds but when the bar goes up so you just time things around the bar)
The only thing I really have to add is that I think the game could've done with a proper ending, it was anticlimactic. But overall a great entry, great sounds, great graphics, very deepnighty.
Very innovative and fun concept. The graphics and animations are satisfying and really polished, and the gameplay loop is well paced. The sound effects are on point, and all it needs is an equally exciting soundtrack.
I would've liked some optional info on how exactly the mechanics worked, as it took some time for me to figure the specifics out, and it was somewhat difficult trying to make sense of them while being in the midst of combat. Getting into the fighting immediately was definitely the right choice, however, since many people do prefer to figure it out as they go and not be worn down by walls of text.
Overall, really impressive for a compo game! The level of polish on everything was quite remarkable.
Super slick and polished. Great graphics, in particular the animations. Pretty innovative gameplay mechanic, however I didn't particularly enjoy the mechanic, but this theme was a very tricky specific one to work with.
Played on my stream: https://www.twitch.tv/zedkraze
I love you game. This should be the top 1.
Smooth, innovative, great!
As simple as that.
Congratulations and thanks for contributing to our community! 💪⭐️🤗😎
Wow, this was such a fun, polished, overall great experience. Amazing work!
Very impressive work as a compo submission!
