graphics look nice. there didn't seem to be an win/lose condition.
i don't easily give best scores, but you're game is the greatest I've seen so far. And it works on my machine, which many entries don't. The biggest points for me are the game is unique and fun. It seems polished, other than, it seemed a bit hard to see exactly how much time you had left to find the correct vaccines. Getting past level 5 was also hard for me. If you update the game post-competition, be sure to add difficulty settings.
reminded me of an old C64 game called fort apocalypse or atari choplifter. graphics and screens look very polished. my only big gripe is the controls were too hard for me, so I didn't play too long because I kept crashing.
very polished game. reminded me of the game squares. the controls seemed a bit strange to me. Like sometimes I clicked and it didn't seem to capture the square like I thought. I probably just misunderstood the rules.
use of real photos was good thinking. the captions when you fire were funny. i cleared the level but nothing happened.
very polished. i'm amazed at everyone who included in-game instructions. your animations are very good. Controls, shooting and explosions are all an enjoyable part of the game play. i like how exploding big aliens spawned smaller ones. I also like how you had to balance controlling your ship and shooting the aliens. also, i would have probably tried your game sooner if you had included in-game screenshots instead of just the title screen.
Great audio and atmosphere with graphics. Don't have a microphone so couldn't get very far.
You are doing it right. Like music.
Couldn't really get very far with the controls. I also didn't hear any audio.
Very impressive and feels polished. I just didn't know what to do.
I'm sorry. I couldn't view your system information at that link. It looks like had a .txt file extension but was all unreadable binary. I tried just now on Windows Vista 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit and it works. I did try Windows XP and it did not work, due to some vsync error in pyglet. I'm looking into that.
After running did it create a Game.exe.log file?
controls were a little difficult for me.
Like the concept. Couldn't get past guard, or I was too close to him. I also had to quit and restart application to restart game.
Great little game here. I played it through and enjoyed the experience. Very good inspiration that a great game can be created with very few graphic assets.
Definitely innovative. Enjoyed the soundtrack. Not as much tension as Jaws but still good.
Liked it. Wished I had more armor though. Worked for me on Windows-64 bit.
I read the directions, but still had a hard time at first figuring out what to do. I gave it a second try and it clicked for me. It was a lot of fun after I understood I had to go scouting first, try to find the most expensive houses, then try and get the customers sold on those expensive houses. It did get a little repetitive after that. It might have been more challenging if there was a competitor.
I'm from Dallas so maybe appreciate this game more. This is definitely the wildest game I played, but satisfying to play it through to the end. Enjoyed the mini games. Also the soundtrack was great and reminded me of Planet Caravan a little. Great work.
Very difficult to herd them out. I got one in the time allotted. Maybe if the size of the corral was smaller to start out. Also to repeat the comment about the black on dark blue was hard to see in opening screen.
Liked the idea. Starts way too hard. The towers seem way to powerful, they just seemed to always pick off my guys before I had enough cash to get more on the field. With some more tweaking and some sound this could get a lot better with just a little more effort.
As I said it starts out too hard. But I eventually got a few through to the other side and then it became too easy to rack up points indefinitely.
Great music and mood. Just limited on what you can do when the cops show up so frequently and you already have a high suspicion level. Feels like there could have been another element to let you do a little more. Maybe if the playing field was larger and you could make deals out of their line of sight.
great work. I liked everything about it. Fun and simple. Great graphics and animations.
Seemed like a fun innovative game. But it was moving too quickly to enjoy. Also don't see the theme reflected in the game, only in the potential villainous guy on the intro screen. I do see potential here if you were to continue on with this concept and make a tablet game out of this and slow it down early on in the game.
Great game. Loved the graphics. Music was good for setting the mood but a little too repetitive. At the end I could not tell if it just kept repeating or not after I bombed the guy on the goat. It just kept repeating after that.
Great little game. My only suggestion is have the goats start appearing a little sooner in the game.
I thought the city specific landmarks were a great touch and chuckled. I found it difficult to evade the jets and wished I could defend my ship against them. Liked it overall.
Great music
I could not figure out how to spin or avoid getting damage while trying to steal handbag.
Spent several minutes trying to get it to work on Windows 7. Could not find the main class.
Great music and good twist on a simple idea. Graphics nicely done too. My only complaint is I had a really hard time quitting the app. I had to kill it from Windows task manager.
It was a little hard to get into the game at the start, but enjoyed it after playing longer. I felt more tension as more and more rescuers starting coming and I had to quickly click the right traps at the right time.
I liked the graphics and sounds effects, but didn't feel like I had any control at all.
Definitely a favorite of mine. Great concept, well executed.
Wanted to enjoy the graphics, but the instruction page was cut off on the right side and I could not start the game at this point. I was using Chrome on Windows 7.
Great execution on your idea.
Rex: If you have Python installed and install Cocos2d, it should work from the source on Mac or Linux. I just don't know much about packaging binaries on those platforms. You can download Cocos2d from this location:
http://cocos2d.org/download.html
Added Mac OS X version. I have never attempted to package a Python project as a Mac binary before, so interested if it works for anyone.
Joozey: The window size should be 1024x768 (or slightly larger for the window frame), so it should have fit. You should also be able to press Ctrl-F to toggle full screen. If the presents collide with Susie at the bottom than Santa has won. You should be avoiding Presents and Reindeer. If the gifts reach 0 then Santa wins too.
I really liked the retro graphics and arcade gameplay. My only complaint is after getting killed (really easy for me), from the time the name input box appears to playing again was unbearably slow on my system. After entering the name the game appeared to lock, then went back to start screen, then loading, then game start. Maybe it was system specific, but that prevented me from playing more than I would have liked to have played.
Highest mood score I have given thanks to the great eerie alien music track.
Great graphics. Controls were a little hard for me to use.
Looks great. It was just really really hard for me to play, so I didn't get as much fun from it.
The entry I have rated highest in all categories.
Very innovative concept at capturing quick decisions. I just felt some of the choices were not always appropriate, unless I was missing something. Definitely pleased to see a unique idea.
Great execution on the idea. I like the simple music. Gives me inspiration I could do simple music like this for my next entry. I have only had sound effects in my entries.
Any EXE downloaded that is not signed will show this warning.
I understand your concern. My future entries will all be web based.
@EmptyFlash I would just verify if the avbin.dll got extracted to the same directory as the game.exe file and you are running it from that directory.
@zanzindorf I agree about the repetiveness. The Lemmings reference is a good one. I did not consciously realize this until when the game was almost complete. Even the green heads was coincidental. I was going to have red heads to denote the First's but had to cut that feature.
Love the gasping air sound effect as you are about to run out of oxygen.
Great job on the music. It was well worth the extra time you spent.
I don't like that you have a web link, but it's not playable in the browser.
Unique application of the theme. Polished.
Fun little puzzle game. The first level seemed to be a little more picky about getting the planet in the dotted position, almost gave up at that point. The sound effects are appropriate to the game play.
Fun game. I did find it difficult though. Since having the two connected planets made avoiding asteroids 2x more difficult. I liked the music a lot.
Liked the music. Found it way too difficult.
Post-compo version was fun and polished. I had to rate you on the compo version though. You were definitely on the right path based on the post compo version.
This is my highest rated game after about 30. This game has good depth without being boring, is innovative, and has great mood set by the music. Good work.
The only suggestion is after the first few times I would liked to have disabled the popup information dialogs.
One of the better resource balancing games I've seen this LD. Liked the music to help set the mood up really well.
Really could have used some music to improve the audio and mood scores. Liked the storyline though.
Didn't hear any music. Would have helped with mood.
Graphics and audio are great.
Looks really polished. Liked the graphics and the music, but would have liked some sound effects for shooting and explosions.
Interesting game. Would have liked more feedback when I clicked stuff, took awhile to get a hang for what I could and could not do. Also didn't understand why sometimes I could do something to harm the crew member and other times nothing happened. Liked the music and mood.
Keep up the good work.
Simple and fun.
The graphics did not load like the screenshot. It looked like real tiny random garbage in the middle of the screen. Not rated.
Agree with comment about text being difficult to read.
Nice music
Great idea. Loved the music. Compo version was on the difficult side. One of the my more highly rated games.
Looks polished. Had to go fullscreen to avoid the popup menu when using the right mouse button for shield.
One of the more unique game mechanics. Not sure with the connection to the theme though. Was fun to play.
Very polished. Looks and sounds good.
Couldn't figure out what to do. I loved the music though. It was great, I'd buy that MP3.
Found the controls very difficult. She moved too slow up the ladders. Music and graphics were polished.
I have no idea what this was about. I feel like I just woke up from a nightmare. Creative and polished looking, but I have no idea what it was about.
Your entry was similar to Hop Hop Planet, but moved a lot faster, was more interesting and had more humor. Music and sound effects were very good too.
Hop Hop Planet:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=35485
Did not care for the mouse button to shoot.
nice little game. would like to have seen a few more levels. controls felt good. like the lose sound effect. not sure what it was though.
OK match game. Music good. Could use more juice.
Took me a minute to figure out how to start the game, by hovering ship over planet and pressing space.
Would have liked to have heard some sound effects for shooting and explosions. Couldn't tell if my shooting was having any effect on the bosses because there were no explosions and my bullets seemed to go right through them.
Very nice music.
Loved it. Fantastic graphics, effects and sound/music. A little on the difficult side and I found myself getting impatient waiting for satellites to line up.
Beautiful graphics and atmosphere with the music and lighting effects. Good humor too.
Fixed game not loading due to .ogg files with Safari. Converted and added MP3 versions to load properly.
Great graphics and voice acting. I could not get past the first guard though.
Cool game. Impressive for just 3 days solo. Innovative, fun to play and polished.
Fun to play. Nice to see a typing and puzzle game combined. Made it to word 44.
Innovative game with nice graphics. The music volume is way too loud compared to the sound effects.
Great entry. Wished it was a longer. Was looking for combos when hitting more than one enemy at a time. It was satisfying to destroy enemies on the return trip of the yo-yo.
I'm never really figured out what I was supposed to do. The weapon didn't seem to have an effect. I came back to the description and comments and it got that I had to fuse together enemies, but couldn't get the first 3 to follow me or anything. On the 4th screen, got them to fuse together, but then still couldn't kill the combined entity. I love the mood created by the music and audio effects though. I think making it a little more clear what I needed to do would have helped.
really nice looking and unique with the noise effect and glitches. really refreshing and polished entry
Very nice graphics and audio. Difficult to play for me. It does not seem very unconventional though. Overall very polished game.
Very talented team. Polished, innovative and fund to play game. I love the music.
Great game. A lot of fun and innovative concept.
Challenging. I got a lot of use out of the "R".
@Jakob37 Yes, I think Phaser + CoffeeScript worked well together. I had to debug the JavaScript generated code in Chrome Dev tools instead of directly debugging the CS code. I also wasted some time getting Browserify + Coffeeify + Watchify working in a smooth workflow.
Very well polished game. I like the concept, but it was very difficult for me -- kept crashing the balloon.
Looks very polished with very nice looking graphics and sound. However, I had a very hard time getting a hang of the controls to make a match. Also the theme seems like a stretch.
Nice creepy music. Maybe more sound effects on game action.
@sievo @alaska Thanks for comments. Agreed I didn't quite balance the minions movement well enough. After they move to a balloon they are supposed to walk to another balloon or a random position. I think they are reacquiring the new spawned balloon too quickly.
Of all the protect the king/president games in this LD, this is definitely my favorite. I found it a little difficult to aim when zoomed in on the shooter though. And I think one game I was zoomed out, but couldn't tell where the shooter was before he killed Jack. I loved the music. It was very suspenseful and totally made the game more immersive. Excellent overall job. Writing this review with music playing still in background -- love it.
Very playable little game. I liked it. I'm not sure why the shark wave wouldn't go for the free food though. A little tough when that mine field appears (not sure what you call it). Good entry overall.
I couldn't figure out how to get/use tools.
Very polished, very good music, sound and graphics.
Great take on the theme. First level was simple enough. But on the second level I really couldn't figure out how to avoid the cop car. Nice music track and graphics very polished.
Sound really helped set a mood. I had a similar idea, but went in another direction. I like how your idea turned out.
Liked the music. Was not sure why I was dying after not hitting anything.
Loved the voice acting, audio and music very much. Really helped set the mood. I couldn't get the scrollbars to work though.
Liked the music. Very John Carpenterish. Like the mood and the losing laugh.
Great music. Liked the intro music the best.
If there were sounds, I could not hear them. Would have helped with mood score.
I know unfreezing controls don't work too well. If you are at the keyboard the 'z' key will activate the unfreezer and the next click on a frozen piece will unfreeze it.
Liked the retro feel of the game from the terminal and CRT effects. A little difficult to get started, but worth the effort to learn. Stacking commands was very fulfilling experience. Nice atmosphere with background chatter. Also each command taking 10 seconds to execute with drone was unique take on theme. Good job.
I expected drag/drop to work. I felt it was a bit awkward having to left click again to drop a piece instead of just releasing mouse button on the drop spot. I didn't hear any music or sound on my machine. At least clicking noises to acknowledge mouse actions would have been good. I liked the concept though despite these minor suggestions.
Seemed really polished. Liked the music and the hit audio effects. Turning corners was definitely challenging.
It looks and sounds amazing and is a very interesting idea. But, I didn't really understand how my choices of which babies or their placement on the arena had what effect on the outcome of the game.
A motion sickness warning might be appropriate here. Took me a minute or two to figure out what I had to do in the game play. Very unique idea and loved the music.
My favorite game so far for this LD. Great use of the theme. Very polished all around great entry.
very nice atmosphere, although very dark intro. I found the game itself difficult with the double jumping needed for climbing the walls on the second level. very polished feel.
Intense music fit the game well.
Liked your game. Very innovative. I found the guy to be a little too smart on second level and made it very difficult. If there was sound/music I didn't hear anything on my machine. I think audio would have improved the atmosphere of the game tremendously.
