LD2 — Construction/Destruction

Sheep Rescue by MattB

Pretty cool. Hard to judge two player games, a computer player option would really help.

Breakdown:

Overall - 4 - Pretty fun and rather innovative.
Gameplay Innovation - 4 - Not sure why, just seemed innovative to me.
Fun - 3 - Hard to say with a 2 player game, probably average at least.
Graphics - 3 - Not bad for programmer art.
Sound - 4 - I like it. Those are pretty good sound effects, and a lot of them.
Technical - 3 - Nothing earthshattering but nothing obviously broken either.
Gameplay Theme - 4 - Almost 5, but the construction was a bit unobvious
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - Has sheep and they aren't wallpaper
Completeness - 5 - Your html manual, and control remapping put you over the top here.

Sheep Strike by PoVRAZOR

Pretty cool game.

Breakdown:

Overall - 3 - Pretty fun, I weigh heavily on fun
Gamplay Innovation - 3 - About average for the competition
Fun - 3 - It is pretty fun, but can get old if you are too well fortified
Graphics - 4 - The sprites are cute and well done
Sound - N/A
Technical - 3 - Nothing earthshattering, but it seems to work well enough
Gameplay Theme - 5 - Construction is there and so is destruction.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - You have sheep and they aren't wallpaper
Completeness - 4 - Extra point for a title screen and general polish.

Bathroom Teacher by mrfun

A game about bathrooms. Ooooh boy.

Breakdown

Overall - 3 - I weigh heavily on Fun factor.
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Nothing new, but nothing broken
Fun - 3 - Pretty fun for a little while - about average.
Graphics - 4 - The photos pulled you up a bit.
Sound - 2 - I am knocking you down one for cussing. Lets keep the games clean.
Technical - 3 - Nothing groundbreaking, but it holds together pretty well.
Gameplay Theme - 1 - Sorry, but throwing mud isn't destruction and I don't see any construction.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - Sheep are there and they aren't wallpaper.
Completeness - 4 - Has some polish and a title screen so you get an extra point.

Robo Sheep by mfassett

Pretty good. Really slow on my slow machine.

Overall - 3 - I weigh heavily on fun-factor
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Nothing new, but nothing broken
Fun - 3 - The game was really slow on my machine, if it were faster I probably would have bumped this up.
Graphics - 3 - About average
Sound - N/A - Can't remember any sound
Technical - 3 - Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing broken either
Gameplay Theme - 4 - Destroy sheep, didn't find the construction in there, but it is mentioned in the instructions so I will give you the extra point.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - Yup, sheep and they are more than wallpaper.
Completeness - 4 - Had a title screen and some polish

Sheep & Crates by elak

Hmmm, it is well done, but, would be a lot better game with a computer player and some more speed.

Overall - 3 - Moved it up a notch on the belief that 2 player on a faster machine should be a lot funner
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Nothing really new, but nothing broken or poorly implemented
Fun - 2 - Sorry, most of it is probably that I was playing a 2 player game alone. If you added a computer player and the game moved a lot faster it would be funner. I don't know what the red orbs are supposed to do.
Graphics - 4 - Looks very nice.
Sound - 3 - Good stuff
Technical - 3 - Nothing brand new, but nothing broken.
Gameplay Theme - 3 - Has construction, but no destruction, so you get the same score as those with destruction but no construction.
Cosmetic Theme - 3 - There are sheep, but the game isn't tailored to that in any noticable way
Completeness - 4 - You get an extra point for a title screen. I would really add a computer player if I were you.

Union Jack - with by nonnus29

This is my third favorite game of the competition. I really like action side scrollers. It ran well for me ~20 fps on my junky machine. I do have Java 1.4 however. For kicks, I have been poking around at your code to help me make an AWT Applet version of my entry.

I would make up your own character next time. You don't want lawyers to attack.

Overall - 4 - I rate heavily on fun factor
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Nothing new, but nothing broken
Fun - 4 - It is fun. I wish you had time to finish the Boss.
Graphics - 4 - Union jack is very well animated. The environment could use some work, but that is to be expected for a 48 hour game.
Sound - N/A - Don't think it has any.
Technical - 3 - Nothing earthshattering but appears to be solid.
Gameplay Theme - 3 - Just like most of the entries (including mine) lots of destruction of enemies but no real construction
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - You have sheep and they are more than just wallpaper.
Completeness - 3 - The main engine works, but there is still lots to do

Onslaught! Sounds intriguing, no? by bugboy

A readme would be nice. Runs kinda slow on my machine, but that could just be that my machine is really old. Pretty fun.

Overall - 4 - I weigh heavily on fun. Might be in my top 10
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Pretty standard fare, nothing really new gamplay wise. However, most all the games are that way so average score.
Fun - 4 - Pretty fun. I want more money so that construction is more satisfying.
Graphics - 3 - Pretty good for programmer art, but the helicopter needs work (doesn't look like the rest of the game).
Sound - 3 - The "time for onslaught" sound is cool", but you could use some sound effects. Probably would have knocked it up a point if there were more sounds.
Technical - 3 - Nothing really sticks out to me as new and technically exciting, but it doesn't seem broken either so it gets an average score.
Gameplay Theme - 5 - I noticed that this could have been a good indirect interaction game too. You have a construction phase and a destruction phase which is more than just kill the enemey you had all along. Can't really ask for more.
Cosmetic Theme - 2 - Sorry. You have sheep in there, but from your go get the new submission forum posts it doesn't sound like they are on every level. So a dip from average.
Completeness - 4 - You have a title screen and nothing seems broken so you get above average.

Sheep O Rama by Bastian von Halem

Not sure, but I think the black bars above the sheep are errors.

A little more about how to play the game in the readme would have helped. I am assuming that green squares are sheep food and turn brown when eaten and are restored when the farmer walks over them.

I have a hard time telling if I am winning or loosing. I seem to die without knowing why, I am thinking that the wolf ate one too many of my sheep.

Overall - 3 - Not bad, probably would have given you an extra point if it was funner. I weigh fun pretty heavily in Overall.
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Pretty standard fare, nothing really new gamplay wise. However, most all the games are that way so average score.
Fun - 2 - Sorry, I have a hard time figuring out what is
going on or why I died, so a point down from average
Graphics - 3 - Would have given you 4 but the black bars above the sheep look like an error so I knocked you down a bit.
Sound - 4 - You have OK sound effects and music that doesn't drive me nuts so above average
Technical - 3 - Nothing really sticks out to me as new and technically exciting, but it doesn't seem broken either so it gets an average score.
Gameplay Theme - 4 - You have construction of walls and destruction of wolves so above average since most everyone else only has construction or destruction.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - It has sheep and they are worked into the gameplay a bit.
Completeness - 4 - It is an actual game which is worth 3 points, you get an extra point for having a title screen, and getting the game to restart nicely.

SoaringSheep final entry by LoneStranger

Good game, but a computer player would really help. I was also tripped up by having to lower my platform and hit fire to get another sheep. Putting that in the readme would have helped.

Breakdown:
Overall: - Not bad
Gameplay Innovation: - 3 - Solid but nothing really new
Fun: - 3 - I am thinking it would be funner with two players
Graphics - 3 - About average
Sound - 4 - I like the sheep sound.
Technical - 3 - Nothing new and extreme, but seems to behave well enough (crashed when I task switched once)
Gameplay Theme - 4 - The destruction is there. The Construction is a bit weak, but better than most.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - Has sheep and they aren't wallpaper
Completeness - 4 - Extra point for a title screen

BallerSchaf - Sheep of Death by Balooga03

General:
The intro was cool, I like the SNES Mode 7 Zoom stuff.
The game could use a status display of some sort. I wasn't sure if I had killed all the bad sheep or not, or where they were. Most of the level is plain grass and you can get lost. Not sure if there is a "you win" condition. Bushes should probably slow down the tank and then be "squished bushes", and the rocks should probably stop the tank. It is funner to squish the sheep instead of shooting them.

Breakdown:
Overall - 4 - Pretty fun, and it is a game, so above average.
Innovation - 3 - Pretty standard fare, nothing really new gamplay wise. However, most all the games are that way so average score.
Fun - 4 - It is pretty fun for a while. A bit above average
Graphics - 4 - Above average for programmer art.
Sound - 4 - You have sound and music, and the sound effects are pretty good
Technical - 4 - Knocked you up a notch due to the mode 7-esque scaling and the rotating tank.
Gameplay Theme - 3 - Destruction of Sheep but no construction just like almost everyone so average score.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - There are sheep and lots of them. One point extra for working them into the game a bit.
Completeness - 4 - You have an installer (needs and uninstaller by the way) and a title screen which pushes you up the scale, but you need some status displays and probably more levels and a win condition if not present which knocks you down a bit.

Good stuff, I would probably put it in the top 10.

Sheepenstein by drZool

What a sick game. I was mainly interested in putting sheep back together but couldn't. The on button is way to hard to push on my pathetic little machine.

Overall - 2 - Sorry not very fun, and that is where I weigh heaviest
Gameplay Innovation - 4 - I like the idea of patching the sheep back together, that popped you up a notch from average
Fun - 2 - Sorry speed problems and the fact that I couldn't get any sheep back together kind of wrecked it for me.
Graphics - 4 - Looks very good.
Sound - 3 - What there is is good, could use some more.
Technical - 4 - Gave you an extra point for the nice drag & drop operation
Gameplay Theme - 4 - There is both construction and destruction. Probably would have given you 5 if I could have seen a sheep come back to life, but the game ends for me just 10 seconds after I shoot the first sheep and its innards hit the ground. Timer seems independent of framerate.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - There are sheep, lots of them and they fit the game.
Completeness - 4 - You get an extra point for having a title screen.

Attack Sheep by Zaphos

General:
Pretty cool, I like the idea. It is something that could be good if fleshed out more. A readme file would have helped, I was confused at first.

Breakdown:
Overall - 3 - I weigh highly on fun-factor, but knocked you up a point for the robot programming idea.
Innovation - 4 - Extra point for the robot programming idea, I like it.
Fun - 2 - The robot programming is too hit and miss for my liking.
Graphics - 2 - The initial robot screen knocked you down a point, it confused me.
Sound - N/A - I don't think there is any
Technical - 3 - Seems about average for the competition.
Gameplay Theme - 4 - Fits construction and Destruction well, Construct Robot and Destroy sheep.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - There are sheep and you work them into the game.
Completeness - 2 - A good idea, but it needs more work, hard to tell what it going to happen when you program the robot, kind of confusing in places, I don't think it has a you win/loose condition yet. Some extra levels would be a good addition too.

Entry by DavemanInSeattle

Sorry, but it doesn't seem like a game just yet. You can interact, but it doesn't seem to matter. It crashed on exit. The game screen was taller than my display :-(, and the sheep and wolves didn't seem to do color keying on my machine.

Overall - 2 - I weigh heavily on fun.
Gameplay Innovation - 3 - Nothing new, but nothing sub-standard either
Fun - 2 - Most of the fun is watching the wolf. Building fences or blowing them up doesn't seem to do anything.
Graphics - 3 - The cool wolf animations pulled you back up to average. The screen is bigger than my display and I was getting no color keying on the wolf or sheep sprites
Sound - 4 - Probably the highpoint of the game. If you had music that didn't stink I probably would have given you a 5
Technical - 3 - Nothing grand nothing awful, so average score
Gameplay Theme - 3 - You have construction and destruction, but it doesn't seem to matter so that knocks you back down to average
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - You have sheep lots of them and they figure into the game
Completeness - 2 - Sorry it crashes on exit and doesn't have much interaction - feels incomplete.

SheepSiege by Kuja

I am impressed that you got a GBA game going in 48 hours. For that alone you get a 5 in technical. I had a really hard time figuring out what was going on. If you had the readme and the .gba file in a zip together I think that would have really helped. Runs really slow on my machine. Don't think it is quite done so I may NA some categories.

Overall - N/A - Can't tell
Gamplay Innovation - N/A - If it were speedier I might be able to tell probably about a 3
Fun - N/A - Not sure if it is complete enough yet. My machine might not be fast enough for the emulator.
Graphics - 3 - The intro graphic is nice, but the sheep and wolves need some work, the background is a bit primitive too. I really like the semi-transparent HUD.
Sound - 4 - I like your background music, the sheep noise could use a bit of work however.
Technical - 5 - Making a GBA game gets a you a 5. I think you are the first to do a game for an emulated device in a ludum dare competition
Gamplay Theme - N/A - Can't tell if you got to the wolf killing the sheep yet, it ran too slow on my machine. You have sheep construction so if I rated it it would probably be at least a 3.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - You have sheep and they are more than wallpaper.
Completeness - N/A - Not sure if it is done yet.

Sheep Craft by MrWizzard

Hmmm, looks like a good start, but it isn't a game yet. I like the word art as sprites trick, that is clever.

Can't rate much, i'll give you what I can, the rest will have to be N/As

Graphics - 3 - Nice sheep and pen pretty good animation. The scrolling is kind of strange on my machine, hard to figure out where I am.
Technical - 2 - Couple points for a scrolling direct x framework.
Cosmetic Theme - 4 - You have a sheep as the main character.
