Ok, I added a couple of lines to a couple of classes so now this applet is totally tweaked as far as I can make it with Java 1.1. Goto: www.geocties.com/nonnus29/unionjack/test.htm for the applet on line. All of the objects are created at startup and nothing goes out of reference until the game is over; so there are no garbage collector issues. Everything now depends on your browser and Java Plugin. I had a situation this evening with Mozilla; after I had browsed alot of "graphically intensive sites" (ahem) I tried the applet and it ran at 0-5 fps, were as before on Mozilla it ran at 50 fps; maybe Mozilla wasn't freeing up resources? This also effected performance in IE 5.5, I had to restart to get the fps back up. I ran it on a win 2000 machine (IE 5.5) at school today and the graphics flickered very badly (I'm guessing MS vm). It ran fine on a Redhat Linux with Conquerer. |
