I really enjoyed playing at this game! I think that adding timer/bar for showing the cooldown of units would be great!

I really enjoyed playing at this game! I think that adding timer/bar for showing the cooldown of units would be great!
Really enjoyed the soundtrack for this one, great visuals too. Nice work!
It's a peculiar submission. I really enjoy the main idea of the game, and art style you choose. But the UX is inconvenient, as I don't see cooldowns on "abilities".
Some neat presentation. Totally dig the overall coherent style! It was hard to manage though, but I have the feeling thi swas designed hard by choice. Really had fun!
Pretty fun game. I agree with cooldown comments, it would be very helpful. The art is great and the theme is nice too!
Wow really perfect graphics, even the scrollbars look like the real thing. Love the overall art style and your interpretation of the theme. I wish I had a bit more info on how fast a task is done and when and how I get my units back, I was not able to get the fire under control. Still one of my favorite games of this LD so far! Would like to play a fully fleshed out version of your game. If you are interested check out my game which has the opposite goal, you need to spread the fire and keep the pesky firefighters away ;)
loving the graphics :) the fact that you went full in is good! for me the game should always be on fast forward tho, also sound is a bit loud! fine entry overall
That was pretty fun, and the idea you had was really good. The UI definitely had a few issues--it was never clear how many of a certain unit you had left for example. Also some of the mechanics were a little obscure. Sometimes a bulldozer would complete in a second, and other times it would take minutes, and I never quite figured out how the firetrucks worked or why I ran out of them so quickly. I would have loved some more challenging scenarios.
Great game. I love the visuals and the sound work, gave me some nice retro vibes. I was too bad to stop the fire but I had a great time watching the fire spread on _high cpu_. :smiling_imp:
I really liked the art style and the audio and overall had fun playing this game, although it's kind of hard ;)
Good job, it's really polished!
I love the style of this! It really takes me back. Wonderful job!
Love the retro-style, I had the impression to play Simcity on Snes ! And a bit too much fun by setting fire instead of stopping it...
Very clean look and the gameplay is really fun. The music got me pumped to bulldoze the homes of innocent civilians!
Love the concept and gameplay but could use some more random events and some timers on units.
Amazing style, really cool idea. A few bugs here and there, had to force v-sync on from nvidia controls, otherwise I could cover the whole map with foam and be done with the fire:P, you shouldn't use Update() for game logic, because it gets executed depending on fps. Still a great game, one of the best I played so far, when it said "Expect some budget cuts" I lol'd.
Similarly to most of the other people who have commented, I love the art style, it looks super cool.
Thank you @vizitas for trying our game out and reporting that bug with foam spamming and sync. I'll look into those.
Great game! Beat both scenarios) I was also thinking about making a game about firefighters as we've being struggling of air pollution due to wildfires near my city for more than a week recently. Great execution and I like your graphics style. Sound design also reminded me of old-school RTS games like Warcraft) Looking forward for full-game release! Hope, you may enjoy our game as well. Good luck!
Looks incredible. amazing pixel art! I think some more feedback on what is going on and the speed of the game would go a long way to making it more enjoyable!
A really intense game! I love how you went with this arcade music and art style! It's also interesting to see how some jammers went with keeping a fire alive, while others such as you went with keeping a community threatened by fire alive. I'm not quite sure if this is a bug or a feature, but somehow I wasn't able to use the bulldozer more than once or twice.
This game is really cool. Its intense, but not in a bad way. I had lots of fun playing it. Really cool concept and it looks awesome as well.
Good game and interesting setting. I would like to see: - cooldown on skills - count of lost/on fire/alive hex's
8bit sounds cool, like in my childhood with snes games))
There is a lot of cool stuff here. Felt like I was back playing an old Amiga game. Sadly I had a lot of cooldown problems as well.
Nice to see a retro game that actually looks and feels like something that we´d play on a 386 in 90s :D Shame it´s a bit buggy. Love the sounds :D
Cool aesthetic, cool music (if a bit loud), cool game concept that fits in the theme perfectly, and well executed (ignoring the already noted bugs)!
Presentation is very nice, graphics are good too. The game was a bit easy on my first run, but I do really like the idea. The theme fits nicely as well. Overall I think this game is super solid and it would work pretty well as a fully released game if you add some more complexity to it.
:open_mouth: wow i played this game for almost 20 mins. great pixel art, the hex always make an aesthetic look and the music is awesome. really enjoyed my time on this game. so in the first run i focused on the fire and try to extinguish them. on the second run i played with my creativity by burning down the neighbor houses
~.PNG
but from this experiment i encounter a bug. in first play when the hex fire still in few, i tried to spam the purple hex (or whatever the name is) from the plane pretty much, and then the winning notif is triggered.. is this normal? i don't even extinguish one single fire in the process and to make this screenshot, i even should wait for the fire spread first.
so.. do your winning-condition is as simple as 'fire < purple hex' ? just curious
Loved the voice acting, audio and music very much. Really helped set the mood. I couldn't get the scrollbars to work though.
@amazura Thanks for informing, we'll look in to that. Winning-condition should trigger, when all fires has burned out. We published the game 18min before deadline, so there wasn't much time for testing! :D We will push out some bug fixes soon. @adriczero Scrollbars are now more of an aesthetic choice, as we didn't have time to make them functional! :)
seems like a game I would enjoy. but I didn't really get it I think. I love the art and the music is exceptionally good. I am not sure what is the difference between the plane and the bulldozer or the truck and Helicopter
but really nicely done :) I'd love to see more of this. followed your twitter.
The music is very cool but a little bit intense on my opinion.
Very much enjoyed playing the game. Played both scenarios. On HTML5 version was not able to move map though. But managed to win the first scenario.
Restart button would be helpful. And also Never realized that I can burn myself around.
Art style is soo much reminded me the games I've played on my first PC. Well done really good job.
Hey that a very very nice game. Music, graphics and gameplay are reminiscicent of old maxis game such as simant. Really enjoyed it!
With more units, some improvement on the GUI (cooldown, explanation of what units does outside of the tutorial screen), different kind of maps, objectives for a level and things like that, you could very well make a full game with this concept.
It one of my favorite LD46 entry so far. You made a great job with this one.
Really nice!
I managed to beat both scenarios.
The second one took a little more effort. Because there is no restart-button, I just Alt+F4'd whenever I realized I'd screw up and tried again :D

This could really be something if developed further. I can see a lot of different possibilities where you could go with this.
One thing I'd like to see would be a Damage Report-screen, where you'd have a percentage of how much terrain was destroyed, lives lost, and how many times you used recources, and other such data.
One thing I also thought was that if there'd be some wild fauna and/or livestock the player would have to protect from the blazing inferno. (Producing lo-fi screams of panicking families is one thing, but what about sheep or wild moose?)
Perhaps your final result would be dependent on all the different factors you were able to take in account? (Human lives, lost livestock, destroyed environment, resources used etc.)
One other crazy idea was that what if you'd have to use a water pumping unit to collect water from the sea or it would otherwise run out at some point? It would certainly make the game (even more) stressful!
---
But I digress...
Good work! I think many of us here would like to see this expanded.
Cool game! Like the retro style. Voice acting is really a good idea. I think smoke in the fire area may be lesser, it blocks the view of the area. Congrats...!
Love this entry.I can say it's one of best I played so far. I totally dig the old school art tyle combined with very nice music which doesn't get old in firt 5minutes! I was very confused at first what to do, but then I figured it out and spend like 40 minutes on scenario 2 alone, trying to get best result as I could. Really great job! Update: Please upload the music to youtube or something please! It's f*cking awesome
Looks pretty cool, very SimCity. But I found it very difficult to control.
It is great but HARD to control. I can't put my men down sometimes. The bulldozers are so slow they are useless. Overall, the fire the fire spreads faster than you can act. If those are improved the game would be really neat.
@vrerabek agreed, @Airola did good job in two nights. Song can be found here https://ramiairola.bandcamp.com/track/catastrophe-wildfire-firefighters-theme @mircea123 Bulldozers are best used on tiles that has lesser "fuel" for fire (like grass or road) so it takes less time to clear them. But don't worry, I will take time to rethink every value for full release! :)
Ok I had to comeback here because of how awesome this game is. I finished scenario 1 and I think I am playing 2. the music is just epic and the sounds.
I had to mention couple of annoying stuff; some are almost experience breaking. even though I am sure that you are aware of it. - playing on low GPU is really annoying because of the smoke - its really annoying when something looks ready and available in the UI and they are not. - there is no telling how many available (scenario2 has 2 available of everything except the plane but 1 only 1 available) - a few times I use the plane or the Bulldozer but nothing happens on the hex :( - the Bulldozer takes a lot of time sometimes. (maybe on some tiles they take longer) - so yeah. I wish everything working showed an indicator of how much time left. - I don't know how the fire spread (how fast on each tile) - also the Bulldozer Hex is very powerful IDK how it works exactly because it was immune for one game and then it became just powerful in another game? - the most annoying thing is the camera movement. it is just unresponsive.
I want more of this :D
***Thank you*** everyone for trying out our game! We're sorry about the bugs and other mishaps you've encountered. We did push out an update to fix some bugs, but rest of the issues are more or less due to design choices and lack of time and testing. We published the game 18 minutes before the deadline, so we couldn't fix some issues we made on the way. But all will be designed, tested and fixed thoroughly for **full release!** We are really excited as we have just started production for **full release** of ***Catastrophe: Wildfire Firefighters!*** All your comments have been noted and taken into consideration. I will be posting updates on my Twitter account until we have proper social network channels and Steam page for the game, but for now we're going to put all our efforts towards the game! So if you want to stay informed about the game, head out here: https://twitter.com/kaappis

@vrerabek Thanks for the compliments about the music. As you asked, it's now on Youtube too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c77vt50lxJE
Really love the DOS game style aesthetic the game has. The music and voice samples really helped for it too!
@airola Cheers! :)
ok so I don't think the way I beat scenario 1 is how you properly do it, basically my entire forrest burnt down but I protected the buildings. I would love to see a dev playthrough of the proper way to play. It felt hectic which is how I imagine a firefighting game would go. I really liked the concept. I had watched this forrest fire fighting movie called Only the Brave and after watching it, I was really fascinated with all that goes into taking out a fire. they litereally had like war planning to try and figure out how to tackle it, and I had no clue one way to fight the fire was burning areas so the fire wouldn't cross. It's a really good movie.
Here is my way I won, but I feel this shoulnd't be th eolution, but maybe I'm wrong. I just couldn't seem to stop the fire from spreading Screen Shot 2020-04-28 at 10.50.24 AM.png
@barret Hey thanks for a movie tip, I have to check that out! :D Our game will use the same tactics what they use in real life to, not put out, but to control the spread of the fire. So your solution isn't wrong, but there is more efficient ways to make a firebreak. And not to mention, more cheaper way, because those aeroplane drops will be _expensive_ in full release! :D
I'm a terrible firefighter, but this game is awesome. Lots of potential.
Cool feel to the game and nice concept. The art, audio, and gameplay work really well together. Nice work.
You're on to something here. This is so impressive.
I'm imagining what this feels like if you hook some additional systems in to the available tools — resources, public opinion, safety... This is already very good and could be really killer.
such great music. but i'm burned everything: )
and game needs restart button.
I never got past scenario 2 since it seemed really hard. The fact that the scroll bars weren't actually functional confused me for a while but I see that you just didn't have time for them. Being able to see cooldowns would have also been nice. I spent quite a while playing this and really had fun with it. Really appreciate the aesthetic of an early PC game.
Nice I love the oldschool Civ2 like graphics.... The gameplay itself was quite fun, though I didn't see the meaning in setting tiles to fire yourself... I usually started to build a wall of destroyed tiles a bit far away from the fire to stop it there eventually...... If you decide to expand it I'm looking forward to see what else you come up with!
I think I've won! scenario 2 with no civilian loss :D
@maxathon Thank you! I have already made some concepts for things similiar what you have thought of... ;)
@xart2012 Thank you! Restart button is already in internal testing phase! :D
@pepperkep Glad you liked it! Scroll bar is functional in dev build. Shame we didn't have time to add it on jam version. But we had to keep them in just for aesthetic purposes!
@kfischer-okarin Basic idea with fire tool is that after building "a wall of destroyed tiles" (or "a firebreak" as they call it irl) you can burn away the area between firebreak and wildfire, so it doesn't spread further. This will be utilised in full game, but as for this jam versio it's there just so you can mess around and have fun with it! :D
@abdurrahman-khallouf You're the man! :fire: :fire_engine:
It is a cool concept and quite fun gameplay. Music was tiring for me after a while, so I muted it  . If I have one criticism, there is quite a bit of waiting around. I mean, after I do what I can, establish a defensive perimeter in the best way that I can and I can't really do much else - I still have to sit and wait for the fires to burn away. I was occupying myself with saving this one tile of forest for no particular reason while fires raged, sending trucks and planes of water into it  Some fast forward button would be nice :). Also some stats at the scenario end would be nice. Like: you saved this and this many tiles of forest or something to that effect.
@fabula-rasa Thank you for playing! There's a fast forward button on the left bottom corner. It doesn't really give player feedback that anything happened (as in faster unit/flame animations or different animation for button) but it works, just press it couple of times and see the difference. Stats is something I'm currently working on!
@kaappis Silly me! I completely missed that! Thank you :)
This is probably the best game I've played this LD, how did I miss it for so long? ;)
The presentation is amazing. The whole thing is like a giant nostalgia trip, a love letter to the best games of old. At first, the overall look of the game made me remember hours spent on playing Capitalism back in the DOS era (or was it Win3.1 already?). Then I've heard the music and memories of games like the original Command&Conquer or KKND kicked in.
What's great about the game is that it doesn't really try to imitate any one old game, instead it focuses on delivering a great gameplay experience of its own. The theme of the game is great, I've always loved games where you had to prepare for or fight an already happening disaster.
One thing I didn't like about the gameplay is, same as for other commenters before me, the lack of feedback on skills and cooldowns. The bulldozer usually takes what feels like forever to dig one hex, it really needs to be visible how much longer it'll take. It's great that after using a skill its button on the skill bar gets disabled, but for some reason it resets after several seconds, even though the skill is still working. Many times I've tried using my firetruck, noticed it didn't work, then looked around and found the previously spawned firetruck wasn't finished yet.
Other than that, I loved this entry. I'm glad you'll be working on a full release, I really see a lot of potential in this one. Well done and thanks for a fun game to play! ;)
@lcstark Thank you for playing! Here's a sneak peek of work timer we are testing:
cooldown.gif
Great job!
I really liked the idea. The ressource management and fire spreading feels quite real and menacing. I was really bad at this haha. I feel like there could be better feedback on what you can use, when, and where.
The art and audio where on point.
Thanks for the game!
