LD46 — Keep it alive

The Olympic Flame: 2420 by Local Minimum 2020-05-09T17:54:03Z

Game's REALLY tough! Intense game about trying to program on the fly while everything is constantly changing. One of the more unique concepts in this Jam. Again, the game is extremely tough but that's how it should and has to be.

THE MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF MORTIMER J.W. by xk_the_name 2020-04-26T13:16:38Z

The initial mystery was great! Would be great in some bigger game to have that kind of a mystery and then later find out about the thing under the bed. To have that as some kind of a plot twist would be nice.

This game had great mood and the feeling of smashing things to pieces felt really good.

The Genesis Loop by jsmars 2020-04-22T16:02:11Z

Maybe the best game I've bumped into here so far :O The best mood for sure!

Adrenaline Rush by Elmeri 2020-04-22T21:43:26Z

I agree with the first comment that the mouse cursor should be locked to the screen bounds when the game is not on a full screen mode. It was hard to play the second minigame because the cursor was somewhere way off the screen when I was supposed to click the mouse. Once I realized to put it on full screen it helped.

Vote Jack! by kfischer-okarin 2020-04-29T14:41:09Z

Reminds me of that one level in Rescue: The Embassy Mission (also known as Hostages). The mood in this game is fantastic! I liked how it wasn't just a "be quick to shoot all people appearing on windows" but you really had to take your time to carefully look who is soon about to shoot. Loved the graphics too. Also the way the controls move faster and harder to control when zoomed in was great. It kinda made it feel I'm holding a heavy weapon and having hard time to keep the aim, felt great!

Genamoeba by winniehell 2020-04-22T14:03:42Z

I got 2965 points at best. Ear and Ear & Hair.

Keep Boner Alive by rubyleehs 2020-04-21T01:35:28Z

If you squint your eyes and look from far enough you can see through the censorship.

BOILING PLANET by Tudvari 2020-04-21T15:29:07Z

Hey, this was surprisingly fun! Didn't have a clue what to do at first so messed around a bit, and little by little understood the strategy element.

The president's speech by Bugord 2020-04-22T14:34:03Z

I got a good pile of dead bodyguards. Only twice did the president survive the first round.

Extinction by MrJotubes 2020-04-22T13:34:46Z

I don't know if it's because I played it on Firefox instead of Chrome, but I didn't have to use the special skills at all to go through the level without dying. I think I only lost 3 lives.

Kardiossomatic by NeitherNathan 2020-04-26T13:41:35Z

Looks great and has great mood! Tried only the Jam version but will probably later try out the updated version too. I tend to pass some of the games that aren't playable on browser but have to be downloaded but this one looked really interesting so I downloaded it and wasn't disappointed! For a jam game the unfinished version shows tons of potential and I get where you're going at with this game. Had fun trying it out!

FIRE-MUST-BURN by TheCze 2020-04-22T00:52:30Z

Got to the first houses and the first camping area and almost to the next houses but my fireman skills ended there.

Wonder by Ian Kettlewell 2020-05-12T19:56:23Z

Really loved the way the "obstacles" were drawn to the screen before starting the level! Physics are flawless too.

God Save the CHRIST! by Gogani 2020-04-21T15:19:25Z

Took a bit to understand how it really plays, but it had just enough playtime to the next checkpoint that I wanted to keep trying, and I understood this is like a 2D top-down on-rails shooter. Later on it became surprisingly challenging when the trip to the next checkpoint got longer. Managed to play it through to the end. It was kinda fun to figure out what each action did and how to use them effectively.

RushBomb by Gelgavish 2020-04-21T13:40:22Z

I get an error about MSVCP140D.dll missing. I'm using Windows 8.1. Too bad, because I would've really liked to try this game. Looks my kind of a thing.

RushBomb by Gelgavish 2020-04-21T14:54:22Z

Ok, now the game runs :) However, there are still bugs regarding to how the screen shows for me. I can only play it windowed in a manner that doesn't show the whole screen. rushbombexample1.jpg

If I resize the window to "full screen" it makes the window very high but not wide at all, but I still can't see the whole room rushbombexample2.jpg

and if I go off the screen on right and up and move around, then I get an error message and the game crashes. rushbomberror.jpg sorry for the Finnish language in that error screen

RushBomb by Gelgavish 2020-04-21T16:57:57Z

@gelgavish I only have a Win 8.1 available. The problem for me is that I can't see the right edge of the screen so I don't exactly know where the player character is.

Initially I thought it might happen when I collect the letter P. Again, I can't see that letter on my screen but I see from the pictures on this page that the letter is there. I've been somewhere around there when it has happened.

But I just noticed that on my computer the vertical walls are different than in those pictures. The walls are shorter and it makes it possible for me to walk in between the "holes" in the wall. One time I got to walk under the bottom wall.

So walking to the right side of the game area to a point where I can't see the character anymore I have been able to exit the room and then moving up for a while and moving around outside of the room the crash happens.

Let's just say that "Analize lolipop tree" is rather curious English :I

Dungeon Ball by scott.redrup 2020-04-21T19:56:10Z

A don't understand how this is a dungeon crawler, but dodge ball this certainly is :D

platformEGG by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-04-21T18:21:52Z

Controls are flawless but the choices for buttons are very awkward which makes it not that fun to play. I would say it would get a lot better if the buttons were are next to each other instead of being this odd combo of Shift + E + Space. I get that those buttons are in the perfect position for hand (when you place your hand on the keyboard, the pinkie is naturally over shift, the middle finger over E and thumb over space), but managing those fingers in a platformer is very awkward.

I think this might be because the developers play a lot of WASD+Mouse games. Being used to those games must help, but for me it's not intuitive at all. Z+X+C would've been better for me.

I can see the basic idea and how the game works looking past that issue though. I'd just like the game for me to be hard because of the levels and not because of me trying to figure out what button does what and which finger was it again that made it happen, like a little child learning to play for the first time, lol :D

Kill the Beast by limbo 2020-05-09T18:29:18Z

Lots of misspellings, I assume you are not a native English speaker. That's one thing you should look at if you want to make interactive stories. Quite often on Steam if this type of a game has lots of spelling errors it's mentioned negatively in the reviews, so work on that.

What comes to the interactive story, I think there were just the right amount of choices. It's often very tedious to play interactive story games if there's minutes and minutes of text in between choices but you seem to be good at balancing that. If you continue doing these types of games I hope you'll keep on having this kind of a balance between the story and the choices.

Chill Thrive by JDK2209 2020-05-05T00:11:41Z

I suffocated the plant several times and have no idea how to avoid it :D My favorite thing in this game is the music at night! REALLY nice mood there! Melancholic stuff, I like it! The music also had quite a bit of the old PC Adlib and Sound Blaster soundcard feel which was great.

Catch the Worm by Sprotex 2020-05-09T18:12:00Z

The gameplay works well, had no issues with controls. I've read these comments and see there wasn't enough time to finish and test the game so that's why there's not that big of a challenge as there are a lot of worms and the crow doesn't pose much danger. The music loops a bit awkwardly and when I fought the crow the fighting sounds didn't stop after I won but just continued to go in a loop, and the same thing happened with the feeding sound too.

I could see this game being an adventure game if you continue to work on it. Larger world with houses and all and you should fly far to find food and come back to the little birds to feed them.

Nuke-A-Tron 2000 by kale 2020-04-22T13:47:47Z

It would be fun to see an actual nuclear reactor simulation game. You could do that by changing the minigames to others that look like they could be in an actual nuclear reactor controller thing.

Cacophony: The Ballad of the Celestial Goblin-King by Renikor 2020-04-21T20:12:06Z

For the people who can't kill the enemies, you apparently have to move the sword on the inventory to a slot on the left.

Catastrophe: Wildfire Firefighters by Kaappis 2020-04-25T23:49:36Z

@vrerabek Thanks for the compliments about the music. As you asked, it's now on Youtube too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c77vt50lxJE

Lights Out by Batswinger 2020-04-21T15:52:19Z

It would've been fun to be able to light other torches found in some rooms, to put a permanent light in some rooms here and there. The mood definitely is good, but playing the game it feels like at certain point it's just impossible to proceed in any meaningful way even though the character is still alive and can still walk around for quite a while.

Akula by Ilya_Nazarov 2020-05-07T19:33:51Z

I love the graphics. Some music or sounds would've been good to have. This is a Flappy Bird clone with a nice twist where the point is not to completely avoid collision but to avoid the shark slow down completely.

The controls were a bit awkward as I didn't really understand when the shark is supposed to go up just a bit and when make the huge jump. It was hard to keep the shark doing the smaller up-down movements.

Bonus points for the effect when the shark touches ground!

Fire Up by oscarglo 2020-04-22T14:50:34Z

Audio is desperately needed! Looks great and plays great, but should have some kind of a points system. One of the most fun games/things/experiences I've played here :)

Stayin Alive by Tanapat 2020-04-22T14:21:01Z

I don't remember how many points I got but I got over 20,000 points at some point in the game.

Firekeeper by Minrato2 2020-05-04T23:59:14Z

I liked this tiny "metroidvania" quite a bit.

I didn't really have much trouble playing the game through as there seemed to be infinite lives and the fire didn't burn out that fast either. Several of my wood sticks got "stolen" by the animals that bumped into me and I didn't have much of an issue to get to the end.

The audio loop was a bit awkward as it didn't seem to loop in a seemless place.

The controls were fine. Sometimes on the edge of the platforms it felt the character drops too early but I didn't really have any other issue with controls.

Perhaps my favorite thing was to be able to see a small glimpse to the upper platform, just enough to see there's some huge creature waiting. Not yet able to get there but I can see something is there! That kind of moments in metroidvania style games are great!

Overheat by SlimmerBurger 2020-04-22T15:16:04Z

The game could get harder faster. It took a bit too long to get more interesting which it really was when the enemies started to appear faster. Fun game.

First Responders by Wolfenrahd 2020-04-21T20:23:49Z

Yeah, the game doesn't work.

Tundra Tumble by Smol Fries 2020-04-21T17:09:06Z

@tari Lol, I did the same :D On my first try I just kicked the egg down immediately and eventually passed the igloo and the game ended, and on my second try I just went down with the egg and eventually something happened and I lost the egg.

I don't quite know what you're supposed to do in this game.

Foamliness by Vignesh Raj 2020-04-21T19:03:38Z

The idea of having to keep soap alive by not letting it get too small is good.

Modern City Survival by AFKGroup0 2020-05-09T18:40:44Z

The small size of the world is just the right size for learning how the game works. I'd hope to see larger world though. Maybe by gradually growing the size the longer you play.

Won a lot of money from the casino! But that didn't keep me alive :D Maybe that's symbolic storytelling :D

In a larger game it would be fun if you could enter the buildings and have many different places inside where the stats change with that mechanic.

Ball Survival by elijah daniel 2020-04-23T13:37:30Z

For better or worse, this could actually be a 0,39 cent game on Steam. I mean, I've bought and played worse games than this. There's a bug that keeps the ball size as big as you had it when the last game ended. Or at least I think it's a bug and not supposed to be like that.

I haven't quite seen this exact idea before, so points for that!

Protect Your Princess by FPixel 2020-04-23T01:32:06Z

Very hard. I wonder how much of that difficulty is because of how the screen seems to be cropped from left and right for me. It gives a bit less time to react to the arrows. The screen is cropped as much as to cut the first letters of each word in the menu screen. Not sure if that's because of the settings you had when you made the html5 build of the game or if it's because of something on my end.
