Hey! Cool little game! I didn't get very far though. Difficulty kind of ramps quickly which doesn't pair well with starting completely over. Also, noticed lag/clunkiness at times. But love the art, music, and main mechanic. Thumbs up!

rob1221dev 2020-04-21 00:42

It looks nice and plays well, but I think restarting from the first level is too punishing.

morilia 2020-04-21 02:49

Ah! Cool looking, nice sounds, really hard! I'll definitely play it again to finish it!

bredian 2020-04-21 07:09

Cool pixel art, amazing audio, smooth platforming. Awesome entry!

step4 2020-04-21 07:10

Nice movement, artwork and sounds. But it is very hard to finish. So I did not:D Good Work.

macabre 2020-04-21 07:13

Very fun, and challenging game. Gameplay is very smooth, graphics and audio really set a fun mood. I wish it didn't reset to level 1 every time, but I did notice I was getting progressively better. Maybe save points at certain levels would entice players to keep trying more!

kwaku 2020-04-21 07:14

Perfect graphics and overall polish! Hard to play when you get restarted each time and i couldn't get past 3rd level. Well done tho.

ilimanic 2020-04-21 07:20

Error : Cannot read property 'getParameter' of undefined

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 07:27

@lou-bagel @rob1221dev @morilia @bredian @step4 @macabre @kwaku Thank you for playing!

@ilimanic could you describe how you've get this error, please?

saucygames 2020-04-21 07:27

had jolly gud time in this polished project

blakegamedev 2020-04-21 07:33

Initial impressions were very positive. Looks great and plays well. I was enjoying it thoroughly until I died and had to start from the beginning again, which I didn't have the patience for, sorry. I liked what I did play. It was just a bit too punishing to want to put more time into it.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 07:39

@blakegamedev I wish I could implement save system. Bit it's my first finished game with Godot and I was focused on polishing core systems.Thank you for playing!

theoteno 2020-04-21 08:08

I can't even play it... the web version doesn't load, and i'm on linux

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 08:12

@theoteno what browser do you use?

shigure 2020-04-21 08:12

Controls feel great and music is really nice. Not being able to jump while holding the egg is a nice idea. I do feel like the game is too punishing by sending you back to the first level after a death. Restarting from the same level would've been more fun, or even a level select from the main menu would've worked. Overall I find the difficulty to be on the high side, but this is again due to the fact that you get send back to the start of the game every single time.

nikchernyakov 2020-04-21 10:21

Nice game! It's too hard for me (especially after I have spilled a juice on my keyboard during the jam), but I like the smoothness of the movement and how the traps is moving synchronously. The tutorial is good enough and I found funny that the egg has it own "lives". Also I like the audio. Good job!

agegorin 2020-04-21 10:36

Quite rare game in jam that feels fully completed. Great job!

rk3omega 2020-04-21 10:49

Very nice platformer! The controls feel great, the game is polished, the audio and music are great, and I love the entire egg / can't jump mechanic.

I'm sure you're tired of this feedback already, but the restarting is absolutely brutal, forcing me to stop on level 4 despite wanting to finish the game. You mention that couldn't because you were focused on polish, but personally I would've considered this a priority as gameplay comes before polish and this will affect people's ability to play your game. It kills me that I can't finish this otherwise fantastic game.

It's a bit clunky having to press 'E' to finish the level. I'd like to have just walked through the exit. I think I would prefer if toss and grab were the same button. I kept getting confused with which I should press. And it's difficult to grab the egg while walking right since 'E' is grab. Which would cause me to stop walking to grab, not as exciting in a platformer. :)

On the third level, you introduce the moving saw blades. You place the first one on the floor with the player, leaving the player a tiny little area at the start where they can safely stand. I took surprise damage because I walked into the middle of the room to get a better view of all the mechanics (I mean, the view doesn't change for me personally but I think it's a fairly common thing to do) and I didn't know that the saw blades even moved. When you introduce a mechanic, I think it's important to give the player plenty of area to safely observe the mechanic.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 11:33

@shigure @nikchernyakov @agegorin thank you! @rk3omega thanks for such a detailed feedback.

vex 2020-04-21 12:10

Music and art style gives me a very "Thing on a Spring"-feeling, and I'm loving it.

It's too hard for me, and I had to give up at level 4, but I still enjoyed the attempts.

generic-games 2020-04-21 12:16

Very nice! I love the feel and polish this game has. Difficulty curve is pretty steep but it works, and great take on the theme.

(And yes, sorry for repeating what everyone else has said, but getting sent back to the first level is absolutely punishing - nevertheless, fun well-made entry and good work :))

boltkey 2020-04-21 13:22

Finally won, but I just cannot get myself to 100% it, it is just too hard.

Very polished graphics and fun platforming. The inertia was a bit wonky at times. Sometimes it felt like I couldn't change direction mid-air.

I didn't really like how taking hits threw me (and the egg) around, making me lose more life.

antraxxx 2020-04-21 14:04

A very great game ! Love everythings : graphics, music, gameplay and it's fun ! Congratulation ! I'd love to restart the level when i died (what i did a lot ;p)

heyllopotato 2020-04-21 14:22

That was really fun and also really really challenging, I couldn't get that far but what I played it was really fun, the movement felt really nice and the overall game felt really polished. I also liked how you couldnt jump with the egg adding just adding that one more thing you need to be aware of.

evgeniya-zapolnova 2020-04-21 14:25

Looks very cool, but it's too difficult for me! I need 4 hands or more... However it is great job!

maximbegunov 2020-04-21 15:35

The game is great in terms of graphics, audio and level design but I would really like to play the level I died on to practice it more rather than move to the start.

n-feofentov 2020-04-21 15:59

Nice platformer! I like the idea that you can't jump with the Egg. I'd appreciate mapping W key for jump too)

lairinlair 2020-04-21 17:07

Wow. Just wow. Loved the idea that the egg has life too. It all feel really smooth. Really, really polished. One suggestion, when die I would like to start again in the same stage, haha. If I were you I would continue working it on this game. I would buy it on Steam. Add a humorous and very funny story and thats it

sanjana 2020-04-21 17:31

I really like the game but I wish there was a way to lay the level you died in instead of starting over. This is definitely my favorite music in ld46 though so far

fabrizio-spadaro 2020-04-21 17:31

Best game I played so far, perfect controls, amazing graphic and balanced levels, great job!

anastasia-goncharenko 2020-04-21 17:34

I realy liked how easy working the controls are. And ovwerall I enjoyed the graphics, the idea and music. Great game!

vitor-amado 2020-04-21 17:35

really fun and hard game hahaha loved the gameplay and music!

dukebot 2020-04-21 17:38

Great game so far, love the graphics style, music and UI, it's feeling so great and cute. The gameplay it's very original and entertaining, and the levels are well designed. My only complain, and it's not a bad thing, just my oipinion, I dfound the game a little bit hard to control and as a result I found the game very hard for me, but maybe I am just a bad player.

marakuya 2020-04-21 17:42

Very charismatic frog and...just...give me more....pineapples...

petrifiedapple 2020-04-21 17:57

cute game! the graphics are nice and rhythmic as well as the controls, was wondering why graphics arent included in the ratings

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 18:04

@petrifiedapple because we use a free asset pack.

airola 2020-04-21 18:21

Controls are flawless but the choices for buttons are very awkward which makes it not that fun to play. I would say it would get a lot better if the buttons were are next to each other instead of being this odd combo of Shift + E + Space. I get that those buttons are in the perfect position for hand (when you place your hand on the keyboard, the pinkie is naturally over shift, the middle finger over E and thumb over space), but managing those fingers in a platformer is very awkward.

I think this might be because the developers play a lot of WASD+Mouse games. Being used to those games must help, but for me it's not intuitive at all. Z+X+C would've been better for me.

I can see the basic idea and how the game works looking past that issue though. I'd just like the game for me to be hard because of the levels and not because of me trying to figure out what button does what and which finger was it again that made it happen, like a little child learning to play for the first time, lol :D

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 18:26

@airola thank you for feedback, apparently, I know what kind of controls I'll make in the future.

pixel-error 2020-04-21 18:49

Graphics, Code and Music are perfect! ... but making such a HARDCORE roguelike for a GameJam it's too cruel. Someday on this week I will sit and finish it, but after 72 hours of work I am too exhausted for games like this. Cool thing is you can play it with controller!

kto-to 2020-04-21 18:51

Cool platformer with nice graphics. It looks like a finished game, despite the tight deadlines.

colinbellino 2020-04-21 18:52

The game felt really well polished, the audio and art are on point, good job ! 🐸

I'll need to try this with a controller, it's quite hard for me with the keyboard. I think restarting the whole game is really punishing for a death, but maybe it's just me ? Holy shit, just saw this was a first game jam for most people on your team, that's even better !

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 18:58

@pixel-error my speed run took about 1:30 minutes to beat all the game. @colinbellino for me it's the third Ludum Dare. But it's my very first cohesive platformer and Godot Game

pixel-error 2020-04-21 19:06

@artyom-volkov the game is pretty nice for the first platformer

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-21 19:14

@pixel-error we did our best!

hadik 2020-04-21 20:10

Nice and polished, game has great tutorial-like start so everything is clear what to do :)

After few levels it stats to be very hard for me, unfortunetly I am not hardcore player of platformers so I cant beat the game. Anyway I like that art and music :)

uppitydonkey57 2020-04-21 20:37

I think its interesting I just find the lives system really frustrating.

aronms 2020-04-21 21:01

It's a nice platformer, if a little tricky. Graphics are cool. Checkpoints would be a good addition - replaying everything is frustration.

louiejams 2020-04-21 21:35

Extremely polished entry! Seeing inspiration from Vlambeer with the screen shakes and artstyle. It was great that you managed to fit in a mini interactive tutorial at the beginning. I wasn't able to get past the first level however, as I found it quite diffcult!

zeggamer 2020-04-21 21:44

Fun Platformer. There was an odd design decision for player death that was off putting. Having to return back to the start after each death was harsh, and to put an extra barrier for returning to the game if you did die via a death room was uncesssessary, especially for a Jam game. Just my thoughts. Maybe I'm being too harsh :)

duke 2020-04-21 21:58

Cool game, looks and feels very polished. The art is on point and gameplay wise, it ticks all my boxes. The only issue I had was the gameplay speed. It felt very fast and the jumps were often times too difficult in consequence. There MIGHT be an issue with framerates higher than 60. I run on 144hz monitors and the browser games in will therefore run in 144fps. Even the asset animations are faster than in your presentation gifs.

garys 2020-04-21 22:08

This is really nice... I know you didn't create the graphics, but it's really pretty and that's as much to do with the physics as the graphics themselves... I do have some issues though, and they've already been mentioned. Particularly, being able to restart the same level without going back to the beginning. This is a showstopper for me... the mechanics are really fiddly, which is great, it makes me want to keep trying until I get past a level - but having to begin again just kills the repetative gameplay of it. Make that one change, and this would be a great game. Also pressing E to finish a bit jarring. I'm sure gamepad would have been better, but the game wouldn't recognise my 360 pad. Music was excellent.

zvyaga 2020-04-21 22:16

Cool. Got a fan. I immediately remembered your phrase "Make games easier and more interesting". I downloaded it for myself

iferit 2020-04-21 22:37

Nice game. Maybe its just beacuse im bad at platformers, but I couldn't get past the saws. I like the concept but maybe decrease the difficulty of the beginning few levels. That or remove the life system and add a checkpoint at each room? I really liked the idea, good job guys!

technogoth 2020-04-21 23:23

Cute graphics and idea. The platforming controls with keyboard I found weren't supper smooth. But liked what I saw.

natasza 2020-04-22 00:55

Very nice game! Graphics, music and everything seems consistent with one vision! It gives the player one amazing solid experience.

I think the levels are accurately balanced. Starting with simple levels presenting the controls and mechanics to the player, and later on, getting more difficult. I know it was mentioned in the comments above, but the only thing that kind of threw me off the immersion was the saving system. Starting all over is quite brutal and makes the game more challenging.

I like the idea of not being able to jump with the egg. This mechanics is forcing players to make more strategic moves. Also, giving egg "life points" is a great idea! Overall the game feels very polished. I enjoy playing it! Great job! I will definitely come back to finish the game later!

Btw the browser version doesn't work on safari, I tried opening it a few times before switching to chrome.

kiln 2020-04-22 04:45

Cute game. Graphics and audio were on point! Bit harsh having to restart when you die, but understandable. I lost once because I threw the egg on a platform over some spikes and the egg sat on the edge and slowly slid off, which of course made me go "WTH?" but it's cool that you programmed it to behave in such a way that that happens so KUDOS TO THAT.

jacksgamessucks 2020-04-22 07:08

Very good game, I like how all different parts of game match to each other (mood, graphics, physics, mechanics of play, music). Good job.

has 2020-04-22 07:10

Cool and fun platformer. The graphics and style are very nice. It's cool that this kind of work was done in just three days

nek 2020-04-22 07:16

Lovely game but i would love some checkpoints or health pickups for the platformer-challenged such as myself.

jamesolivermusic 2020-04-22 08:04

Nice graphics and overall style. I agree with others that you should be able to retry the same level after dying. Otherwise it's very frustrating having to replay everything again. Not being able to jump with the egg is a good idea, and encourages you to think ahead. Music and FX are also very fitting. Good job!

ponypen 2020-04-22 08:51

Really nice little platformer!!! It runs so nicely and smoothly and the animation on the cute little characters is great! I like how you can't jump with the egg, it's a nice touch to the game plus I enjoy throwing eggs around!

bonyok77 2020-04-22 09:13

Wow, this is fantastic! one of the best games I've played so far! I hope we don't need to restart from the very beginning every time we die though...

asue 2020-04-22 09:40

Game very well polished and very pleasant to play. Controls are really good. It's just too bad we have to start from the beginning every time we die, it'd be nice to start over at the same level. Well done to the whole team =D

erebus 2020-04-22 10:29

No egg.... NO EGG! NOOOOO EEEEEEGGGGGGG!! @.@ Thanks for bringing it by the stream! NOOOOO EEEGGGG!!!

kamilko 2020-04-22 10:31

This is great puzzle-platformer. It is potential for really serious game with lots of levels. Perfect for some PiCade or something like that :)

room606 2020-04-22 10:43

Very fun, addictive pixel art. For me the game was a little bit hardcore right after few intro steps  I'm a newbie though. Good job on level design, game design, art aspect. Very good job, comrade! Maybe skipping first intro rooms could be nice enhancement in polishing plans.

emperor-eagle 2020-04-22 11:58

Fun game. I really like the pixel art and the controls felt tight and polished. I enjoyed playing it and the gameplay and level design felt controlled meaning I enjoyed playing it! Very nice job!

devparty 2020-04-22 12:00

This game looks AAA. This is amazing! It is so good.

jusw85 2020-04-22 12:55

It's a really polished entry, and I loved the mechanics and platforming. But I would've liked the game to be easier so I could see the whole game, I couldn't get past the level with the moving saw platforms (level 5?).

yeti-kid 2020-04-22 14:46

This game looks really good, I only had a keyboard to play with and found how far the buttons for the controls difficult and not having as much precision on my jumping very hard. Really liked the idea and the music/sound effects bring the world to life. Great job!

drums 2020-04-22 15:17

Love the music and the smoothness of it all. Thank you for giving me more than one hitpoint! Got difficult pretty quickly but overall it was fun, thanks!

mika-la-grand 2020-04-22 16:26

Nice game, but the difficulty increases quickly. I would have liked a checkpoint at the start of each level, rather than this permadeath system. I made it to the level with the swinging spike balls. Though, the level before it with the saw blades was quite difficult as well.

hermeses 2020-04-22 16:55

Pretty difficult! but great game overall, good level design and cool pixel art, and I loved the music

deathbysnail 2020-04-22 17:14

Neat, love the audio.

petturtle 2020-04-22 17:37

The graphics, animation and audio are on point! Having a checkpoint system is always great, especially for a game jam and showing the paths of the saws would be very helpful.

necromic 2020-04-22 17:43

The audio was by far the best part. Solid entry for "first timers" in gamejams. Great job. Kind of a bummer to realize the art were assets :(

fractal-flower-girl 2020-04-22 18:24

Great idea! It got pretty difficult, but I enjoyed it. I wish I could cheer up the frog! Good job!

taffaz 2020-04-22 19:08

Really nice game with cool artwork.

bohrmaschine2000 2020-04-22 19:12

I like the Music and the Artwork. Make more Levels. PLEEASSE ;-)

nicko-klyukay 2020-04-22 19:58

It's so difficult but I like it! Art, sound, gameplay are all at the highest level!

yubs 2020-04-22 20:23

Really nice game, the polish really shows on the controls and levels feeling really good. Also the music is amazing. Great entry!

sid-fish-games 2020-04-22 20:44

Game is cool and very polished. Would help to have some checkpoints.

despediteerik 2020-04-22 21:49

It's a pretty good concept for a platformer! The graphics and music are pretty up to par, too. I'll have to go with the common complaint and say checkpoints on each level would've pushed this further as a quality of life upgrade. Additionally, it'd have been nice to use [E] to both pick up AND throw the egg, instead of using two buttons for those pretty similar movements. Otherwise, nice work!

the-martijn 2020-04-22 22:15

Very stable game and looks great! Checkpoints would be nice, tho..

marxy-37 2020-04-22 22:28

Honestly not jumping while holding the egg, to me, feels pretty unintuitive to me... even while knowing that i can't jumping whit the egg, i still keep trying to jump while holdig the egg (and keep dying trying...).

Maybe if it was some more heavy object (dunno, a metal egg??) maybe it will feel more natural... Or maybe just some sort of feedback that keep reminding the player that it can't jump... Maybe it's even better than my first idea...

Oh, and the game was great... (For the little that i have played...)

synystercola 2020-04-23 01:30

A really well-polished game! Challenging and the music is on point. Reminds me a bit of games like Super Meat Boy and stuff.

babyking 2020-04-23 02:38

This game is really tight! I appreciate the controls are available for controller as well as kb&m. I mirror @marxy-37 it would be nice to be able to jump with the egg or potentially slowed while carrying the egg. Funnily enough my buddy and I made a game with a similar concept. Have something in the level you need to also keep alive and get to the end with.

Starting from the beginning is rough, as well as having different controls for picking up and dropping the egg left me wanting.

A very fun entry, thank you for making it!!

gimblll 2020-04-23 06:37

A bit of a bummer to read that the art isn't made by the team even though there are so many of you, but anyway checkpoints are desperately needed and the controls were really unforgiving. Lovely little thing all in all though, no doubt about it!

pushkan 2020-04-23 07:37

Best harcode platformer! Tip : But so more buttons for control. Need to redisign. Only WASD + Mouse. :v:

aroma 2020-04-23 10:44

Pixel art + Platformer = LIT

pusheeneiro 2020-04-23 10:47

Cute graphics and nice gameplay.

mathieu-semin 2020-04-23 10:58

Love the graphics and the polish is really good. The game is a bit hard tho

Great job overall !

rakowu 2020-04-23 14:33

Wow dude that is impressive what you did. Nice the gravity adjust . The way you implemented the exit and start option really creative. great music, funny, fun. intelligent and dynamic implementation of game mechanics. Great job i'm really impressed.

boyturnedrobot 2020-04-23 14:35

Excellent work guys, especially to the ones who were participating for the first time. I'm absolutely terrible at platformers so I tend to abuse checkpoints and iframes, so it was an extra hard game for me since you didn't have those. I noticed that I didn't lose health if i got hit again right after taking damage, but I still got knocked back, which was a little punishing. If you had iframes after taking damage, or just died instantly and started at the beginning of the stage, I think it would have been less difficult. Great art, I liked the mechanics of not being able to jump with the egg and I loved the simple moving backgrounds and the music. Good stuff.

motley 2020-04-23 15:37

Nice little platformer with a twist. Pretty cool idea with the egg (though it's kinda weird you throw it, it could break).

I don't get why there are no checkpoints and you need to play through the tutorial every time you die

penguinbob 2020-04-23 15:56

I love the game. It is addictive! I loved the into in the very beginning! I do not like that every time you die you have to replay what you have already done. Any way good job, and keep it up!

syudzius 2020-04-23 16:12

Good game! So polished! Love the artstyle and music, frog ninja is adorable :D The gameplay was a bit hard for me, but I enjoyed playing. Keep up the good work!

docgeraud 2020-04-23 16:28

Very fun and polished game! Great job! It was challenging but I really enjoyed myself :)

kkrac 2020-04-23 16:45

A good little puzzle-platformer game, cute graphics and music.

What are pineapples for?

I understand the idea of not letting the player jump when holding the egg but I feel like it breaks flow a bit.

I think it has a lot of potential, keep it up.

picross 2020-04-23 17:01

Cool game! @artyom-volkov I remember you from the GMTK jam! I liked the level design a lot. I wish there wasn't a life system, though, as I struggled with the controls a bit and constantly had to start the whole game over again. Good game feel, nice and juicy. Nice work!

lootgrounds 2020-04-23 18:47

Well, that escalated quickly! Some hardcore platforming skills and a cobra level reaction required. Overall polished, self sufficient, fun little game - one of the not so many examples of a jam game done right. Congrats!

imod 2020-04-23 18:49

Cool game! Nice gameplay and awesome music!

astrolabe 2020-04-23 18:55

Nice game but too much for me T-T

lasagnaandroid 2020-04-23 19:02

Great game, loved the graphics, music and gameplay overall!

ianlux 2020-04-23 19:41

Very nice game, loved the polish, the music and the gameplay. Everything feels very well animated and tightly playable.

recursor 2020-04-23 19:44

Fun game, and I like having to manage both the egg and the platforming hazards. However, it is frustrating to have to start over when you die. Overall there is a high level of polish to the sound, music, and art. Nice job

coatline 2020-04-23 19:45

Cute gameplay and nice pixel art. I really wish that you didn't have to restart the game on death. Ninja frog like!

fenderbate 2020-04-23 20:01

Looks, feels and plays good! Nice job!

kjscott 2020-04-23 20:15

It's a pretty eggciting game, managed to get a bit of the way through my after scrambling my inputs a few times I kept dying. It fried my mind at how it all hung together. Incredibly well polished and put together, you all did an eggcellent job them. I will eggstract myself from this now before I go too far...

spirits 2020-04-23 21:46

Very polished game here! My favorite so far, it was very fun to play!

pilarius 2020-04-23 22:11

nicely done, gravity felt a bit high though.

dummydojo 2020-04-23 22:18

Looks and sounds very good. I really wanted to, but I couldn't get past the controls and game play.

-This game seems to be designed with gamepad in mind, but I'm playing on keyboard and the control scheme choices are really weird. Imagine using Shift, SPACE, E, A, and D simultaneously. I can't even figure out what finger combination that would possibly be. Even with using arrow keys, the left hand will still be using Shift, Space, and E, which is also a very confusing combination. Giving the player the mouse option makes no sense either as mouse position plays no part in the game play. A cleaner control scheme would be something like A/D to move, W to jump, J to pick up, and K to throw. This would make it more familiar to players and much more enjoyable. Options are nice, but having a clean and concise intended control scheme helps a first time player a lot.

-I couldn't get very far, but it seemed really punishing. I honestly can't get past the saws since they seemed to combo me and jumps feel tight. Starting over from the beginning also seems to be over the top considering the context.

-Pressing 'E' to continue seems weird. I feel like it should just auto continue.

-Having the rule of not being able to jump with the egg feels unintuitive. Maybe adding some visual to show that its weighing the player down for some reason would help.

thedestoryer 2020-04-23 22:21

The levels were small in the beginning, and got way bigger later. It just felt a little inconsistent. Maybe make the beginning levels bigger, or add a moving camera.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-23 22:21

@dummydojo indeed, controlos are crap and I failed miserably with them. However, I've got some valuable feedback how to make them better. I'm not a platformer-guy and it's my first completed platformer.:)

adonisdevs 2020-04-23 22:22

I liked the art, sounds, and mechanic, but I didn't think the level design was that great. Like others have said, it was very frustrating! But, I still enjoyed it :)

madalaski 2020-04-23 22:33

Lot's of air control and acceleration mean the platforming is a bit hard to control, but definitely an interesting mechanic that is given a lot of decent amount of content!

dummydojo 2020-04-23 22:34

@artyom-volkov It's no problem! All a learning experience. Just some constructive criticism. Good job with what you've made!

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-23 22:43

@dummydojo and I'm happy to get a lot of such a good feedback, as I know how to make a better platformer in the future. But, I hope, I'll have an opportunity to make FPS or a yet another top-down shooter. As this platformer was my personal challenge as a very firs platformer and the very first completed game with Godot engine.

noirdrive 2020-04-23 23:36

Such a polished game, I see there is a great effort in game mechanics and level design. Sometimes it is hard to control, it maybe about the keyboard scheme. I don't made it too far if there is a checkpoint but game seems too punishing. Overall, it's a pretty solid platformer. Thank you!

fornaree 2020-04-23 23:59

I've done it! After some raging, I could complete all the levels! As mentioned before, the controls can get better and the lack of checkpoint is brutal, but it is some solid work, with a great art, cool animations and nice ideas being explored.

cheesepencil 2020-04-24 03:08

Sound and art design is awesome, love the aesthetic!

geegaz 2020-04-24 10:29

In terms of graphics the game is great, the assets were integrated perfectly, the sound design is good, but I think the gameplay itself wasn't perfectly polished - the concept was good, but as said by other comments the difficulty is frustrating.

To me it lied mostly in details, like taking damage launches you way too far and can get you in a damage loop easily, or having some hazards perfectly synced while others aren't (which makes timing jumps difficult). Having to start over entirely was really dicouraging too.

Still, good work to your team !

fabula-rasa 2020-04-24 12:00

Nice concept and a very impressive work. Audio worked really well with the art style and the general vibe of the game.

Very challenging though and I personally, as I suck at platformers ;), would love some checkpoint system.

kate90 2020-04-24 15:53

Good classic platform game :D, I love them, cant really play good, but love them! Good concept, fantastic art. Well done!

roey-shap 2020-04-24 16:46

I won't overspin the game's gameplay more - the rest of the comments give good enough feedback on most of my qualms. EXCEPT: I think that the explanation as to why the air movement feels clunky shouldn't be overblown any further than air deceleration being too high. That's it - play with some other values (or make it stop near-instantly if there isn't any horizontal input) and you're good. Polished, interesting concept with potential for expansion. A bit clunky and unforgiving checkpoints-wise, which, combined, makes the game hard to get to the end of (and not for purely challenging reasons). We want to see the rest of your game! Give a newer player a li'l more support, that's all. :)

lukvasando 2020-04-24 17:27

The movement was pretty hard to handle so I couldn't make it past the third level. But the game feels really nice though. Great game!

lukas-mayer 2020-04-24 18:40

The game looks so so polished, it's great.

A bit too hard due to the controls mappings, but overall insane entry. Good job !

evert 2020-04-24 21:04

A bit difficult, but I couldn't stop until I finished it :) I didn't have so much of an issue with the controls, but though the circle-saws could have moved just a tad slower (to make the jump-reaction slightly easier!). Well done overall though!

taran-unraveler 2020-04-24 21:17

Liked it a lot, would have liked it more if I could throw the egg using the keyboard and not the mouse: the fact that I had a pointer tricked me sometimes into thinking that the egg would have been thrown in the direction the pointer of the mouse was. Leaving that aside, the game is really well made!

g12345 2020-04-24 22:12

Nice little game. I could go on talking about how hard or punishing or that you restart from the beginning, but I'll just say that the graphics look great and the music is okay too.

I got to level 4 but it's just too much work for me to continue.

durgan 2020-04-24 23:07

Really enjoyed this platformer. Art style is really nice as well. Great job *thumbs up*

thebreakfast 2020-04-25 00:34

Awesome production value! This game feels like a complete product almost. Great pixel art, great sounds, fun gameplay concept. Overall, great job! I'm glad it has invincibility grace periods because I got caught between two traps a few times. Level 4 was tough as heck!

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 04:44

The game is so good and so hard. Still I gave it 5 stars in every category.

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 04:47

Also @artyom-volkov tell valisse21 that I said thank you for rating my game.

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-25 08:39

great sprites and animations!

vectorwolf 2020-04-25 11:35

Really awesome game but man can it get HARD. You squeezed enormously much value in this little package and it came out extraordinarily good. I'd love to see a game of you in the next jam!

bilalch213 2020-04-25 12:42

Fantastic art style! I liked the slow moving background and the game mechanics are really good. Animations are so well done. The only problems are that the controls are bad and it is hard to play the game.

marcusnystrand 2020-04-25 13:54

Wow, this game is HARD! But super well done! Nice and snappy player controller, cool pixel aesthetics. Nice animations and sound.

Really unforgiving that you have to start from the beginning when you die. But I like it, makes me want to beat the game!! Couldn't get past the third level though :(

fatpenguin 2020-04-25 14:54

This feels like an actual game on Steam, very well done! However gameplay-wise I have to agree with others, this get's way too hard way to fast. I would increase the difficulty gradually, and in the first "real" level I wasn't really sure how the hitboxes of the objects work. All in all I felt way more fragile than the egg, lol. Maybe I should be protected by the egg, haha Unless you want to go for that Dark Souls vibe ;) I think you should work an this as it really is nice, the music was great and the sprites top notch. The frog as a ninja reminded me of the ninja turtle while still being unique, had me laugh, good job. The controls felt nice and I like that you added Gamepad Support, a lot of games on here feel weird and wrong with keyboard and mouse controls only when they feel like they should be played with a controller (which is okay though because Gamejam) so well done for providing controller support Music didn't work in WebGL btw, I almost didn't rate you for that, maybe fix that because most lazy people will choose to pay WebGL ;)

All in all, a great work, you can be proud of yourselfes!

koolruz 2020-04-25 17:31

Very nice aesthetics - Well polished and appealing! I liked how the gameplay was a combination of tight platforming, and carefully planning your approach when carrying the egg. The optional difficulty provided by the pineapples was also nice - If you were having too much trouble on a level, you could focus on just beating it, rather than getting all the collectables.

That said, I still couldn't get past the fourth level! :( With such tight platforming, it would have been nice to be able to retry whatever level killed me. Even though I was having fun when I got to experience new content, the amount of time that I was spending on the tutorial and level that I'd already beaten was just too much for me.

I also had a hard time wrapping my hands around the keyboard controls - It felt like my left hand was overburdened, as all the controls (WASD, E, Shift, and Space) were mapped to keys that my left hand hit, and my right hand wasn't doing anything.

Overall though, this was definitely a fun game, and a great concept! :) There's a lot of potential here for really neat platforming challenges, and you have very charming well-polished graphics and sound! Great job!

mharring 2020-04-25 17:44

Great job! The art was on point and the mechanics were great. The controls could have been a little easier (perhaps WASD + J & K). It also felt a little hard to predict where the egg would be thrown to. A trajectory indicator would have gone a long way to help with that, and could have encouraged tricky bounces. Overall great entry though, excellent work!

oillen 2020-04-25 20:00

Yor game is clearly a good platformer, with some nice ideas - especially transporting the egg vs collecting pinapples motivated me to explore the levels either to max out collected pinapples and figuring out how to get the egg to the goal. Though what gave me a punch for my enjoyment is being send back to the beginning of the game (the main menu solved as a level is a beautiful idea) - being forced to replay all levels after the frog's death is in my opinion more frustating by punishment than challenging by a hard difficulty (you guess it, that is what I always say about Dark Souls (and call it a bad gothic clone :smirk: )) - it contradicts a bit the clever level design and the step by step approach of new mechanics. My comment might sound more critical, than I have actually enjoyed platformEGG.

elemental-zeal-game-studios 2020-04-25 20:55

I kind of sucked at this game but it was fun :) I liked the balance from not being able to jump while you were carrying the egg requiring more thought as to safely bringing the egg to the goal.

Art and audio were awesome too. Overall great job.

eran-haas 2020-04-25 22:37

Wow that is an impressive amount of polish!

The audio was just perfect!

nathant 2020-04-25 23:06

Love the scene wipe effect. Ninja frog is amazing! Would have liked checkpoints for the game jam play throughs. The difficulty scales pretty quickly. Well done art style and solid soundtrack. Nice entry!

paulhocker 2020-04-26 04:22

really impressive game here. i liked the controls and the graphics were great. my only complaint is that i needed to press E at the end and that there were no checkpoints. thanks for making this.

tweedle 2020-04-26 10:57

Music and controls were the standouts for me, nice work!

duck-reaction 2020-04-26 17:04

Very polished game ! Good jobs guys !

I like the music, the gameplay works well. Control (with xbox controller) are not very intuitive, it would be awesome if player can change it.

Overall, this game is master piece !

chicomcastro 2020-04-26 17:53

Your game seems to be very well polish and complete, congrats!

I'm not really a fun of platformers, but it was great done.

notapollogising 2020-04-26 19:00

Seems very well polished and some interesting concepts. I liked the game a lot as a whole, but for me there are a few problems.

1. I don't enjoy restarting the game every time, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense because HP resets between levels. 2. There should be a timer where you don't take knockback on the saws for a short period of time because I got stuck in a few corners where it just kept hitting me when I'd expect a way to jump out 3. The trajectory of the egg took some getting used to. Not necessarily a complaint as I'm not sure what could be done here, but for how unforgiving the game is, it was frustrating having to guess if the egg could make a throw.

Graphics were pretty good, very polished. Audio was pretty good as well. Game was fun except for the hardcore mode feature, I would much prefer to turn this off personally even though I know some people enjoy it. All in all, great job, the egg mechanic was done very well and it was all super polished.

rodrigo-castro 2020-04-26 19:22

I enjoyed a lot this game. It's like a super meat boy, and it is perfect. The art and level design is balanced. The sound is tipical this game. I had some difficult to use the controls, but I think ok cause if I spend more time in this game I will be better. Continuous this project, please.

boboman 2020-04-26 19:24

Really well made game. I had a lot of fun trying to perfect my movement through the levels. Some frustration with getting bounced around spikes and ruining the play-through, so maybe there can be checkpoints, retries? This might add some /flex for players who beat it with 0 retries! I appreciated that not every hit on spikes took life. Audio queues, music, graphics, etc so well done, its hard to comment anything negatively except maybe having a volume slider option.

Loved that you have beginning levels that basically are the main menu and tutorial space combined, it perfectly introduces the mechanics of throwing and jumping and lets you play with the character movement to get the feel -- PERFECT. Throwing the egg past obstacles to safety, since you can't jump, while also keeping frog ninja safe is a very interesting mechanic and I enjoyed! This has speed running potential. I didn't quite have the patience to finish with all the pineapples. The game play feels much nicer on game pad using Dpad and Square/Triangle for egg toss and X for jump (DualShock 4). The jump and movement and air-control feels responsive is very well done. Minor frustration with not being able to land on some platform corners pixel-perfectly to avoid the saw blades, but that could just be the intention. I really enjoyed it, nice work and lots of future potential!

guipuyol 2020-04-26 19:39

So... I envy you guys (in a good way). I've always wanted to create a fun platformer game that felt original and not a reskin of existing games. I feel you've accomplished that. By introducing the egg into to mix you've added enough of a challenge without making the game overwhelming of awkward. Well done!

quadape 2020-04-26 19:52

A very solid and polished submission, good job, bud!

fishmasterino 2020-04-27 08:10

It's good, but I feel like it would be a lot more fun if dying was less punishing, especially since controls can be a little slippery sometimes

blacksheepza 2020-04-27 09:50

Well done on creating something so polished! The art is really cool.

I found the fail state really punishing. I wish a fail would just restart the level instead of restarting the whole game. I really wanted to finish the game but gave up after having to redo the same levels a few times. I also found the timing of the trap movement really odd and hard to parse which added to the frustration of the hard fail state.

Overall though its a really solid submission. Awesome job!

kayahr 2020-04-27 11:31

Great game! Too difficult for me though. Maybe just resetting the current level when dying would be an option? And why can't I rate the graphics? I like them, would like to put some stars into it.

sleeping-panda-games 2020-04-27 12:30

Wow! Awesome art, animations and music! Really loved it! Mechanics are fun, but I think movement controls are a bit too fast/sensitive. I died a lot mostly because I didn't really expect the character to move that fast.. Anyway that's just a minor thing compared to this awesome result in such a short time. Good job!

pedro-miranda 2020-04-27 14:13

Super cool game, the artwork and the sounds are amazing, good job. The game as kinda hard and restarting all the way from the start is harsh. Anyway, it is a extremelly well done game, congratulations!

kaisean-games 2020-04-27 18:07

Yes. Very nice.

Literally I'd change only two things. Throwing the egg feels unpredictable. I never know where it's gonna land, especially for levels where you need to throw it to a platform above yourself. It's weird and it cost me several replays. The other thing being forced to replay all levels when dying on any.

Other than that, one of the best entries I've played this LD.

Keep up the good work.

johnnysix 2020-04-27 21:02

Loved the pixel art, and the music was nicely bleepy! This was insanely hard after the first tutorial level, as there's none of the standard 1-2 sec of invincibility after a hit, so on the one with the swinging maces, I'd hit the wall spikes, hit a mace, then back again. Other than that minor greivance, and the potential for some button consolidation ( Have E Pickup and throw maybe? ) awesome stuff.

The timing on the moving parts was really neat , is everything tied to as single variable for position?

I've tried doing platform stuff before with specific / related timings on hazards, but nothing as crisp as this, props for that! :v:

euler-moises 2020-04-28 04:08

WOW! What a difficult game! It would go easy in the "game that makes you angry" style like Meatboy. I really enjoyed the art and the gameplay is very good. What caught my attention was the music. I love FM sounds. Did you use a tracker or was it on a traditional DAW?

Congratulations for the game.

gamescodedogs 2020-04-28 11:30

Thanks for the game :)

very-dark-lord 2020-04-28 13:58

Really cool game! If it only wasn't so darn difficult and always made me start from the very beginning. Why, oh why couldn't you just respawn players in the same screen when they die? :D

Super polished though, you can tell a lot of work has gone into this. The screen transitions with that fade out really stand out. Well done!

shaolin-dave 2020-04-29 03:48

On the critical side, I have to say the controls are very cumbersome. The jump having immediate momentum both left-right and immediately falling without hangtime made it very difficuly. e to pick up and shift/m1 to throw was odd, i mean they could have been the same button right? I also think the level should have ended when you got to the end holding the egg. Everything else was great though, loved the graphics and audio, I especially liked how the view zoomed out on larger levels.

black-flag 2020-04-29 11:01

I really like the scene transitions, and the level of polish on this game is insane! The gameplay is super fun, and the audio really fits the overall theme! Overall, this is an amazing jam entry!

23edsa 2020-04-29 12:55

Loved the art style and music, good job on this entry!

gama-11 2020-04-29 16:43

I have to agree with the previous comment about controls being a bit cumbersome, especially if you were trying to use the gamepad controls and the on-screen hints only show keyboard controls. Overall an incredible entry though!

fabrito 2020-04-29 20:56

All I got was "Cannot read property 'getParameter' of undefined" when starting the game... :(

larsspawn 2020-04-30 04:30

It's very polished game! But it's not balanced yet imo, the game is too hard in the early levels. The saws are moving too fast or poor anticipation which is the player may not know that the saw will moving. For new players, the will die alot or for fast learners they will adapt the mechanics and controls very fast and not like me, I can't event pass the 4th level. Mechanics are nicely implemented, the main character and the egg both got HP which is unfair lol. The pixel art is pretty nice, also the sounds and music are suits the game very well. the animations and transitions are also great. Other than that are fine. Overall it's a pretty cool game, frustrating but fun!

microchasm 2020-04-30 06:21

Very nice little platformer. My only desire would be the ability to throw the egg using space. Since jumping and throwing are mutually exclusive, I'd like to have space be the general action button for either state.

Overall though, great entry. I especially like the music and the sweet cross fade.

nakami 2020-04-30 19:53

Nice entry ! But a first it's very hard to correctly avoid the spiky and sharply stuff and the restart to beginning is frustrating. Also the hit box could be a bit smaller so it's a bit more forgiving (e.g. for the boulder if I'm not almost exactly between them I got hit).

asfdfdfd 2020-04-30 20:07

Love gameplay mechanics! Each level has something new. Like!

alexrose 2020-05-02 01:07

FUCKING PINEAPPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

skyeward 2020-05-02 22:02

This is one of the best LD entries I've played, excellent job!

Challenging but fun - this is a difficult game that's satifying to learn and improve at. Graphics and sound were great, it's a neat idea I haven't seen before... This is one of those rare entries that gets high marks in each and every category.

PlatformEGG is really polished, with little details like random scrolling backgrounds each time you play, secret pineapples (although I'll have to trust the devs on this since I haven't found any yet!) and several things have idling animations.

The controls are really well made, you can chain together very quick sequences of pickup/drop/jump to speed through sections.

Thanks for the game, this was awesome!

ludumdaredevil 2020-05-02 22:16

I liked the main menu layout. It was much better than buttons.

hej-medister 2020-05-03 14:02

A fun and beautiful game, but it was very hard and i could not beat the first level after the tutorial tho.

darkfrost 2020-05-03 15:16

Really nice game I like the idea, and it's well polished, cute, artstyle, audio, feel of the game all fit together really well

Player control feels good, but a bit extreme!

However, I felt that the levels got way too hard to fast! That, combined with the game restarting from the beginning made it a bit frustrating to play :( The saws moved very quickly without much warning, and were a bit hard to predict - that combined with them being in an area where you don't have much room to move around when they're first introduced made it pretty hard, whereas the swinging things in the level after felt much better! They were nice and predictable and worked really well!

I might've preferred having throw/jump on the same key? Ended up pressing the one wrong a bunch, but also I might've ended up throwing it when I wanted to jump otherwise, so not sure! I kept pressing the wrong key a bunch tho!

A bit more health would've been nice, and I frequently got stuck with either me / the egg endlessly bouncing around when hit!

Despite that, really good work! A few minor tweaks to the level design / difficulty would go a long way in making this a 5/5 entry!

robert-li 2020-05-05 04:52

Such a fun game. Art and animation are great and level design is also great. Liked how the game starts with very easy level and there is guide of the control. Very well done.

matootsy 2020-05-05 05:33

Very good game. I love the pixel art and music/sounds, and the level design is very good too, but perhaps the difficulty progression is a bit high. Because there's different levels it would be nice to let the player choose the last level he was playing after he die. And perhaps let the possibility of using UP to jump (I find it more comfortable than Spacebar). Anyway, it's a very well made polished game for a jam! Congratulation to the team!

gustavo-christino 2020-05-06 17:39

Eu não sei se é um problema com o itch.io, mas os jogos que eu joguei até hoje nunca realmente fecham quando eu uso "exit" (a exemplo desta imagem). Será um erro no itch.io?

I don't know if it is a problem with itch.io, but the games I played until today never really close when I use "exit" (like this image). Is it an error in itch.io?

I'm still playing... :)

GGE.png

gustavo-christino 2020-05-06 17:45

Ainda estou jogando.

Só passando para falar que poderia ser uma boa identificar que o controle (joystick) está conectado e alterar o termo "E" para o respectivo botão (se for possível). Sei que há diferentes botões para diferentes tipos de controle, então complica fazer algo mapeável e tal.

I'm still playing.

Just to mention that it could be a good idea to identify that the control (joystick) is connected and change the term "E" for the respective button (if possible). I know that there are different buttons for different types of control, so it complicates doing something mappable and such.

gustavo-christino 2020-05-06 17:56

Analysis...

1 - Mechanics, Learning and Flow: It is a platform game with the objective of "escorting" the living object to the point of arrival (exit from the stage, end of level). I feel that the jump is not very easy to control (as if the character slips a little from my hand). I don't know if it's the size of the collision box, or some kind of use of physics that keeps the character moving. I also have to say that having to start all over again is a very severe punishment, perhaps something that enhances the feeling of losing control of the player's character (PC). Learning to play is easy and facilitated by the game. Before playing it is possible to control the character and everything is very well arranged on the screen. The game flow is of increasing challenge, so I think it is adjusted (just the fact that I have to start all over again that ends up causing discomfort and breaking the immersion).

2 - Graphics, Audio and Narrative: The graphics were nice and funny, especially considering Ludum Dare's time. I didn't see any good reasons to ask to improve something, except (who knows) a font for the lyrics that are part of the tutorial. The audio for the short game session I had was great. I think the volume of the sound effects is high, it can be a little scary (for me, for example). I know it gives a "joviality", but I could let the soundtrack stand out more like this. The narrative is very simple, and has not been the focus of the project until now. Something that could be solved without major problems (in my view), outside the time of the event. :)

3 - Culture: The main character reminds me a lot of an Internet meme (I think it was a reference). Hahahahah. I believe that as a live entity escort platform, the game can find a niche. Especially if at each set of levels this egg "hatches" and we gain a new skill or a new playable character. Maybe this will take the game to different and different mechanics and narratives in the passage of the cycles of life (digressing a little).

4 - Monetization: I believe that once polished and extended, the game can sell to stores like Steam.

Es muy buen juego. Está completo. Le faltarían unos niveles para poder hacerlo más completo. Pero en términos generales está muy bueno!

Wow, what an awesome submission! o//

Let's start by the music. It's really groovy and old school-ish and it fits reeeeally well with the game. The game over clip reminded me a bit the coffin meme.^^ The SFX are also nice.

Graphics and animation are really great too. Old school, stylish, well polished.

As for the gameplay, it's pretty great too. Controls are correct, the character moves maybe a little bit too much, I feel like it makes the movements a bit inaccurate but it's not gamebreaking at all. Adding a key to restart the level would be great. ^^

Well, good good job guys, I would totally play more levels of your game! Impressive, well made, polished. Wow! :)

A very well polished platformer game. Good job! Like everybody else already said control needs more polish. I feel like removing jumping when carrying an egg hurts the flow of the game. Like jumping is an essential element of a platformer. Removing it completely really makes it very unsatifiying. Maybe give a small jump or some visual feedback will be better.

Couldn't manage to go past through the 3rd screen, I kept on dying  Beautiful game, nice sfx and cool transitions, loved that pixel-art!

The fact that you have to restart from the beginning and the huge jump in difficulty between levels made this fairly frustrating. It would be nice in the duration you held the jump button had more of an impact on the height of your jump, and throwing and grabbing the egg with different keys is fairly unintuitive. The difficulty would not be quite as bad if mechanics like the saws were introduced in a place where they are easier to get past before introducing them in harder places. That's a lot of complaints but this is still a really good platformer for a jam and the sounds are great. I really enjoyed playing it!

Fun! I had trouble controlling the jumps, but the presentation was great. The transition from the menu was especially great. Nice work.

The game is very well polished and the music slaps. The game is way too frustrating without checkpoints at the start of each screen. You might want to remove the quit option from the web version of the game.

Enjoyed this game - annoyed I didn't get to beat it D: the mechanic was nice - seemed quite "obvious" but then had a really nice impact on the game by restricting the players jump. Made you have to think about what you were doing - as it conflicting with the standard platformer controls we have all gotten familiar with.

This was super fun! Great job!

The gameplay is very intuitive and quite fun.

I also was quite annoyed by the moving obstacles as some weren't nicely timed -- I would normally blame design but I don't really mind since this is a jam game.

It's one of my favourite entries from this jam!

I'm sad that I'm credited here. (maybe others from the team, too?) Maybe only the code and the music wasn't made from assets. I'd liked to make music, but my role was to make sounds... and guess what? My sounds were replaced...

**. . .**

It wasn't made by a team, it was made by one or two people. I feel that MAYBE the team, my and their feelings were just an afterthought. I would be happier to make a "worse" game with our work, than to make a "better" game almost all from pre-made things. Like 60% of all work was pointless, replaceable in this jam. In this "team".

I'm feel bad for feeling sorry, that I couldn't make those ideal sounds. I'm happy that I couldn't make music for this cursed game. I have disbanded teams before jams' first day, but they were nothing like this. I'm surprised that it didn't ended for me after the jam, even if I participated only on the first day. That day my sounds were replaced. I shall REPLACE this team, for a TEAM.

That's the end.
