LD42 — Running out of space

Out of Inventory Space! by aaranos 2018-08-17T03:21:59Z

I feel this game has a lot of potential and I know that the time constraints of Ludum Dare are tough; @doctormozart and I definitely had to scrap some ideas due to time. It would be nice to get a little more feedback on when an encounter is happening, maybe even a little interaction in there (perhaps simply another dice roll) would be a great help. I love the idea and originally had floated a similar idea to my partner but he shot it down :( guess I'll have to make that game on my own time ;)

Tunnel Racer by ctrble 2018-08-17T02:41:54Z

In my short play through I imagine that using the rotate controls are key. Good job! Especially as a team of 1 in compo! I imagine coffee had a large part to play.

Born to jump by Blix 2018-08-20T14:38:51Z

I really enjoyed this submission, as with others it seems had some trouble with the difficulty but I don't necessarily know if it was a problem with the size of the hole in the platforms as much as the controls. A couple things to try if you'd like to revisit this (and I suggest you do because when it works this game is very satisfying) maybe have the camera stay behind the character so you get a dead-on perspective of what kind of shape and placement you're after. When playing on html5 as well I found when I was trying to move limbs I was moving the game around the screen, losing precious time; I don't have any suggestions for that but just something to think about with your control scheme. Thank you for submitting!!

Spaced Out by Roidz 2018-08-21T00:59:35Z

Solid entry. I enjoyed the nuance of the movement although the size of the level forced me to be quite conservative with how fast I went for better or worse. Thanks for the game!!

Gutted Goblin Trading Co by DoctorMozart 2018-08-15T15:57:36Z

@keyurrana Thank you for playing! I'm glad we could provide you your box bumping experience! That is some good feedback, I think that @doctormozart and I will likely revisit this game after the voting is done and making the UI a little more obvious is at the top of my list.

Gutted Goblin Trading Co by DoctorMozart 2018-08-15T16:02:28Z

@matt-fabius Yeah, the controls aren't super obvious. I think if @doctormozart and I were to expand this we'd have some warm-up levels so that you have a little more experience with a less hectic experience. I wanted to emulate driving an actual forklift. Do you think it might be easier if we were to enable the arrow keys as a control option?

Gutted Goblin Trading Co by DoctorMozart 2018-08-26T17:11:10Z

@chrissx2 Thanks for playing!! @doctormozart has been raving about your game so I am excited to give it a shot after my bust weekend. It looks fantastic o-o

Forkin' It Up by Eric Smith 2018-08-21T00:43:21Z

I saw someone else made a warehouse management game where you play as an anthropomorphized forklift and I had to play it!! I love the boost mechanic and how clean the game is. It never felt very hectic which I think would make it a more engaging game. The controls were a little hard to get a hold of but once I got them I was fine. All in all a fantastic entry and I am very happy to have played it. Thanks!

Pyramidion by Matank 2018-08-17T03:06:54Z

I loved the art, took me a couple tries as well to get through on easy and that hard difficulty enemy looks intense. I think the animation could use some love but you have an absolutely fantastic models to start with. A very solid entry.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Ludum Dare: The Game by pantoufle 2018-12-09T06:19:59Z

This was a lot of fun! As above the scrolling list of items was not a lot of fun but despite that this has likely been my most enjoyed ld43 game so far! A well thought out and executed idea. The audio is enjoyable but not in my face and the list of things to do was very entertaining :) Thank you very much for sharing your work!!

Etherium by gil4 2018-12-09T18:02:24Z

A very polished entry, I can't think of anything constructive to say honestly. Thank you for sharing your work!!

PURITY by jantunes 2018-12-09T06:51:01Z

This is a very solid entry that I feel is mired, unfortunately, by some easily avoidable sexism (intentional or not). I feel it would be worth the time to reword the text and include people of varying genders. My issue isn’t necessarily the actions in the game (they certainly fit the theme) but rather that specifically women and girls are being “purified.”

Zoe and the Polypantheon by Carraka 2018-12-09T05:56:07Z

I'm going to need to give this another go in the future as I couldn't figure out all of the combos, but I did go in sort of blind without knowing much about the gods depicted on the different pie pieces. I unfortunately skipped some of the intro text, it would be nice to have information peppered throughout the game. Maybe when you pick up a piece of the god pie the character says something? Overall a very solid entry, thank you so much for sharing your work!!

Piper's Quest by Iamsodarncool 2018-12-09T17:49:42Z

It looks like others have touched on a lot of gameplay stuff so I will leave that. I couldn't quite figure out the mood of the game and some of the lines of dialogue seemed out of touch with the rest. For example most of the intro seems very Saturday morning cartoon (which I dig completely) but Piper refers to Gregorio as a bastard which for the very short time we've known her already seems out of character. I loved this project and will likely come back to this after I've reviewed a couple more games. Thank you very much for sharing your work!

The Mist by tpamir 2018-12-09T05:27:28Z

The aesthetics of this game are fantastic, the visuals and audio are top notch. Reading through the list of things you're looking at working through I can't help but hope you do because they will elevate this project quite a bit. Thank you for sharing your work!!

Lava Luva by mcovert 2018-12-09T05:39:33Z

Good job on the execution of this idea. As soon as I figured out that sacrificing people was core to moving forward things felt less hectic which was fantastic. This seems to be echoed quite frequently above but having a timer on when a new citizen is available would be a huge boon to this project. Thank you for sharing your work!!

Oregon Tail by DoctorMozart 2018-12-03T18:31:18Z

@jesper-k I completely agree with the font not being super easy to read. For the life of me I couldn't add any fonts into GameMaker and didn't have the patience to reinstall or try it on a different computer. That is definitely something that will be corrected when @doctormozart and I take a look back at this one.

Thank you for playing and leaving such a great comment! We definitely appreciate the feedback.

Oregon Tail by DoctorMozart 2018-12-09T06:23:28Z

@fattori Thank you for playing!! I definitely didn't make the game very forgiving when you run into a situation where you can't do any of the three available actions which is something I would like to work on. Protip, if you bow to the chicken it'll give you an egg! Also the Fishzard is quite bad at dice.

The Chosen Sheep by Ellenack 2018-12-09T17:29:57Z

Fantastic execution, the control scheme on web was a bit glitchy on my laptop (as using the trackpad to click and drag often is) not something that I expect to have resolved but something to keep in mind for the future. An enjoyable experience, thank you for sharing your work.

The Temple of Cipactli by bluziDev 2018-12-09T06:08:23Z

I found this a little difficult to get into. Starting out I don't feel I had enough knowledge to get very far. I really enjoyed the bow but it seemed like it didn't do very much and I didn't have any feedback that it was doing anything until I had shot what felt like 5 or 6 arrows at one of the small red serpents. I found this on itch initially and initially and with very little info on that page and no tutorial in game I felt a little lost. I should have looked here first though apparently!! A fun entry that I am glad I played, thank you for sharing your work.

Pick Your Poison by Vimlark 2018-12-09T17:21:53Z

The sound design is great! Something I know that I need to work more on for sure, during the jams it usually comes last and all we implement is some music. I enjoyed the background music, I feel that it fit quite well. Thank you for sharing your work!!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Bloodslinger by ryusui 2019-05-02T02:35:35Z

This was a lot of fun to play around in! I'm a sucker for a card based video game, those Poker Night at the Inventory ones are a hoot. There is some real potential here, thank you for making this and sharing it!!

Hajime no Botto by nihilaleph 2019-05-02T01:27:36Z

I read the outline on the itch page on how the game works but I didn't quite understand how to put that in practice in the game itself. I selected weapons and what to attack but it never seemed like they did anything while the enemy attacking me seemed to be very effective. It could have just been that I was seeing a lot of red and not a lot of what I was doing.

Seaway by Constantin 2019-05-02T01:12:40Z

As people have mentioned above the graphics are great, it seems like your ship movement starts to figure out where to go by starting at 270 degrees and then figuring it out from there which can be jarring.

The biggest issue I have is the subject matter, I understand that the theme lends itself quite well to using slavery as a core story element but I think that the issue lies in the approach of addressing an issue with as much history and human suffering as slavery. Those aspects aren't addressed at all in the gameplay, or the game at all as far as I could tell which is a real shame because games are a fantastic way to explore those difficult topics. I look to Spec Ops: The Line and Papers Please as great examples of games that look at different aspects of our society and explore them in a meaningful and tasteful way. Even in peaceful mode you still enslave the island natives, the counter doesn't show up but they fly to your boat. I feel that was a huge missed opportunity.

Thank you for entering this, I hope learned as much making this as I did making the game I worked on.

Devil Bank by techsec 2019-05-02T02:00:03Z

This was a lot of fun to play around in, thank you!

Flash Dash Dungeon by Raymoclaus 2019-05-02T02:58:37Z

The attack animation length and hitbox don't lend to intuitive combat but I love the sprites and the idea! Thank you for sharing.

Social Lite by DoctorMozart 2019-04-30T16:18:11Z

@yngvarr the debt thing is definitely a bug :( a little to big to squash when we discovered it but I imagine @doctormozart and I will revisit this after the rating period. Good catch ;) The main game music is something we also had to rush unfortunately. Thank you for the feedback!

Dream Kitty Escape by sundowns 2019-05-02T03:13:51Z

This was a lot of fun! It would be neat to have movement not cut off immediately when you release the movement key but that is a personal preference.

LD46 — Keep it alive

A-maze-ing Mess by Elendow 2020-04-23T03:23:40Z

I want to draw the level out so I can beat this thing. Thank you for nailing the exploration/ resource management/ puzzle energy that is this beauty game.

Angst by Silas Reinagel 2020-04-24T14:51:40Z

I can certainly relate to everything expressed in this game and I appreciate deeply that you made it. The couple places I could see this game improving were mentioned on your itch page so I'll leave you with: thank you for making this, I would be very happy to see you take this project further.

Hope by Darylsteak 2020-04-24T14:59:03Z

There is so much that is well done in this, I think it could benefit a little from some music as well as some tuning on the feeling of jumping/running. Thank you for making this I enjoyed playing it!!

ROBOY by DoctorMozart 2020-04-23T14:23:18Z

@mathieu-semin Thank you!! I should really play Dead Cells but the combat in it's current form is not close to what we were hoping for but unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to make it work well in time. Ideally it looks something like this: the rolls have a good number of iframes a la Dark Souls so that when you're rolling you don't take damage. Your attacks (and the enemy attacks) only deal damage when the sprite of the weapon is colliding with the character; currently the collision mask is static at the end of the animation while the enemy ramps up the swing so you can get damaged even though you haven't seen the damage happen. We're hoping to get all that ironed out. Thank you for playing and for the excellent feedback!

ROBOY by DoctorMozart 2020-04-24T14:28:41Z

@akadream I completely agree!! It was in our original scope but had to leave some of the combat refinements to pursue things we felt were more important. There is a cooldown on the enemy attack between attacks but having one before is a great idea! Thank you thank you thank you.

ROBOY by DoctorMozart 2020-04-24T14:29:36Z

@flamus rolling!!! One day the rolling will also make it so you don't take damage. It will be ultimate rolling. Thank you for playing!

Slimekeep by BenBonk 2020-04-23T02:31:17Z

I enjoyed this a lot, your take on the theme is solid; probably the best gameplay idea based off of the theme. I found myself ignoring the basic premise though and on subsequent playthroughs just blasting everything because I knew it was going to get super crazy soon enough. You could push the idea you created a little more by having a finite number of bullets; giving players limited resourced to try and achieve the highest score. Or perhaps a finite amount of time and multiple levels. Thank you for making this game!

MegaCorn - Strategy / Economy Simulator by KittRangers 2020-04-23T14:59:07Z

I enjoyed this game, the aesthetic is great! Something I would like to see is some indication of what the different buildings are doing during gameplay. Perhaps having items visually move from your resource pool to the building or from the building to the resource pool. It seemed so fast paced that I found it difficult to react to what was going on and triage the source of the problem. Thank you for making this!

platformEGG by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-04-23T02:38:13Z

This game is really tight! I appreciate the controls are available for controller as well as kb&m. I mirror @marxy-37 it would be nice to be able to jump with the egg or potentially slowed while carrying the egg. Funnily enough my buddy and I made a game with a similar concept. Have something in the level you need to also keep alive and get to the end with.

Starting from the beginning is rough, as well as having different controls for picking up and dropping the egg left me wanting.

A very fun entry, thank you for making it!!

King's Table by PetTurtle 2020-04-23T03:18:07Z

This was a decent execution of a really great idea. I love the art and game design, Some minor things that I would have liked to see: the poker chip sprites seem to be scaled down and don't seem to fit with the rest of the art. The other thing is being able to tell what moves each piece or going to make in the context of the game. How frequently do the attacks happen, does the attack get stopped by your other pieces? Thank you for making this! I will be back for more :)

Ignis Morty by dahoon studios 2020-04-21T15:10:07Z

I unfortunately couldn't get very far but I am sure that just needs a little tuning that there isn't really time for in an event like this.

I enjoyed the minimal UI, I feel you did a good job of showing us what was happening on screen despite the lack of a traditional healthbar etc.

My biggest complaint was I couldn't figure out how to restart the game after I died. I restarted the browser in order to reload which meant I also had to watch the cutscene again, it would have been really nice to start again at the beginning of the level if I wanted.

Thank you for your submission and I hope you check out the game I made with my best friend!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Ebontale by JUSTCAMH 2020-10-07T02:53:40Z

Goddamn. I had so many WTF moments, this had me glued right to the end.

LoopChan by Kaish 2020-10-07T02:03:22Z

I enjoyed playing this a lot! The graphics are great and the music is quite fun. I found some of the snare hits not very intuitive which made the game more difficult which could be positive or negative however you intended. I enjoyed the introduction of the different elements of the level design and thought that was really well done.

Warehouse Madness by Dexort 2020-10-07T02:13:38Z

This was a lot of fun to romp around in. The movement feels very good, and are those 3D models in GMS!? I will have to look into that because damn they look goooooood.

Loopita's Dream by vetu11 2020-10-09T04:23:47Z

Just. Damn.

⛧ Hellycoaster ⛧ by TennoTako 2020-10-07T02:32:32Z

I found the game bit buggy, the first time I played no portals opened up for me :'( But I restarted and voila!! They systems on display are solid, if you have some time that's where I would spend it next :)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Oni Hunter by pataya 2018-04-26T20:01:57Z

Great game, I found myself getting lost in it. The theme was admittedly quite difficult but the two genres you chose don't seem at odds with each other, they in fact seem quite compatible and are utilized quite similarly in games such as Mark of the Ninja. That being said I love the game and hope you continue working on it.

PlatBoarder by LillyByte 2018-04-24T00:14:02Z

This was a lot of fun. Thank you very much for making it.
