Nice game! Well made and I had fun! the death animation was so cute :D
Quite polished for a 72 hour game jam. Very well done!
Simple and straightforward mechanics. I had some fun with it, just wish I could attack diagonally. Good job!
Honestly a pretty great game! kind of repetitive after a bit and takes a while to get to the boss, but I guess that's the fun of it!
This game is friggin' incredible! The music and sound effects create an awesome mood, and the sacrifices actually feel like I'm losing something. There are some minor balancing issues, including the seeming uselessness of speed, resulting in it being my go-to sacrifice. Also, the bullets had very weird hitboxes, and some shots that clearly should have missed, hit. I also didn't like that the menu required key presses, I generally prefer clickable menus. But otherwise, this was a really enjoyable game! Great pixel art and gameplay!
That is a good game. Very tough but the difficulty ramps up pretty fairly, I think. It's always those towers that can aim that get me! Lot's of polish.. sounds, music, and art are all great!
I like it! Really nice pixel art. Very interesting to make the game gradually harder by lowering stats. I got to the end but didn't win. It's a little harsh to start from the beginning when you die. :)
Nicely polished and interesting game. Had some audio bugs while playing (the songs overlapped when the level restarted), but otherwise I had fun playing it :)
Very nice game! Its a simple but interesting concept, that led to some tough decisions and quickly ramping difficulty. The only thing I'd say is that it was frustrating to have to start all over on death, but that's partially due to me being bad haha. Overall a very polished game for a game jam, great job!
Very nice game! Congratulations on doing this in such a short time frame.
The menu music is AWESOME!
@joseph-manley Thanks for playing, I agree, I would change the way attacking works if I were to do it over.
@justcamh Thank you for the kind words. Balance is way off. I halved the amount of speed lost towards the end because I had where if you sacrificed all your speed points you moved so slow it just made the game aggravating, but at least it can be used as a dump stat. The hit boxes are off as well, if I do any updates in the future I will fix that. Noted on the menu, not hard to implement, will remember to add that in the future, thanks.
@diogo-rocha Thanks for the heads up, audio was a mad dash at the end to get it, glad it wasn't worse.
@frosty & @taikuri Thanks for the input, would a 3 lives system feel more fair? I feel like unlimited continues would lose the some of the challenge but that could just be me.
I really really liked your idea. So simple but I don't think I've ever seen it before! A reverse powerup system really puts the convention on its head!
I also really really like the art! The sprites were really well-made.
I also really liked the game-feel.
It did, however, make me want the fighting part of the game to be better. When I saw the twin-stick controls, I was hopeful, and then disappointed when it ended up being basically A Link to the Past combat. Not a bad combat system, just left me wanting.
But overall it was extremely good entry! EXCELLENT!
This is awesome! Great idea, well executed, cute graphics and lot's of content for a jam game!
I don't really like the movement though, it feels like you are walking on ice. I'd prefered a more snappy movement not driven by forces.
But still this is a really good. Congrats!!!
Nice music and sound effects overall. I really missed a more complex level layout but a good game despite of that.
@boopsgames If I update in the future, combat is for sure on the list for an over-hall. Thanks for the input and kind words.
@gerardb Thank you. Yeah I'm not sure what happened with the ice feeling. I didn't notice it as bad before the export and upload but I sure did when playing it again after. I'll tighten them up if I make an update.
@lluismg Thanks, a more complex level was the plan but I spent too much time on art and had to make it work. Next time simpler art for sure.
Very good work. Polished, good sound and graphics, smooth controls, a variety of enemies. Reminded me of mine a little bit in that you keep getting worse as you go through levels. I would have liked a "replay level" option so that I could have gotten to the end - I tried four times, but couldn't make it, and the prospect of playing another bunch of levels to get back where I was was unappealing. The gameplay was a tad repetitive, but that's hardly unexpected for a 48-hour game. Very good work.
Very cool, but man I wish I had at least a continue or two to fight the boss! Old school hard to go with the pixel art and music!!
Cool game! ))
Your game is so cool! You have beautiful pixel art, which I really appreciate! You found great way to combine a LD theme with your game, moreover this idea with sacrifices skill - love it! Pretty clever! You did a good job :D
The graphics look great! The idea was simple and worked well. I did find moving the character was a bit slippery which made dodging the bullets really challenging, so I would always sacrifice speed first. The game is very polished for 72 hours, really great work.
Your graphics are on point, especially the UI. Good job
@dob I agree with needing a retry system. I don't want it to be too easy so I'm thinking of adding a 3 life system to keep in theme with the old NES style of difficultly. It really does suck to die on the boss and have to start all over. Also with more time I will vary up the levels to knock down the repetitiveness. I really enjoyed your game as well, I didn't even think of just taking away an entire aspect of the character. Really fun. Thank you so much for the feedback.
@zombie-virals Thanks for playing it on your stream it was cool to see someone other than myself go through it. Very insightful. I will be adding a lives system to make it less unfair.
@jongjo Couldn't agree more. I will be updating the game next week and I will definitely make it feel less like you are running on ice. Thanks for the feedback and kind words.
@vlad-ilisan Thank you. I was really pleased with how the UI turned out.
The game is really interesting, the graphics are clear and pixelperfect and the sound is harmonying to the gameplay. The different levels are random generated, I like it. Good Work!
Overall nice game!! with a really good art and good idea that fits perfectly for this theme!! It would be amazing if you could implement more spells and sacrifice them also!! But apart from that good job!! =3
I liked it) I immediately remembered Zelda and it made me smile) Good idea, simple gameplay, nice graphics) thank you)
Really good game! I managed to beat it on the second try, and I sacrificed only speed and health.
The concept is clever and works well. Difficulty of the game increases not because enemies get stronger but because I get weaker, the feeling is a bit frustrating because it usually goes the other way. I think it fits perfectly with the theme!
Congratulations on making this game!
Awesome game! It's tough with but we (played with 5 people, when we lose it and changed seats) enjoyed a lot. I really love sacrificing the skills part of the game, which affects the gameplay. Need to choose it carefully about what we're sacrificing :) We face with the boss but we couldn't win. And we really like to see the end of the game!
Really good game! Good to know there are games like ours :) there was a bug where i can sacrifice infinitely between scenes by spamming enter on what to spam, that hurt :)
@codesity Thank you! Glad the levels feel random. It's actually a handful of pre-built levels that change in order based on a random seed. But that was the effect I was going for, I glad it worked for you :)
@abyster That's an interesting idea. I do want to update the levels to not all be the same hallway and add more enemies. I'll think about spells as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
@syrok Thank you. I used Link as the base for the character and it made me smile too.
@pantoufle Thank you so much. Glad you were able to beat and enjoy it.
@efealacamli Sorry you couldn't win. The one death start over is a bit harsh, just didn't have time to add it. I'm doing a jam that is all about updating a project so I will be updating this one and adding in a 3 life system so there is more of a chance to beat it. Thanks for playing.
@tosunami Great minds :) I just found about about that yesterday, forgot to disable the button after a selection is made (face palm). Sorry about that. I will be making updates to the game and that is on the top of my list to fix.
cool game, i enjoyed the fact that it was kinda like the opposite of common games
Pretty entertaining overall. The graphic design was well polished and the game itself was very functional. Not the most unique take on the theme, but definitely one of the better I've played. The way of choosing the way to increase difficulty makes you think a bit.
+It was a pleasure to play at your (very) fun game with a controller
+Good use of music
+Graphics are so cute
+You're right in the theme
Nice entry
Great game, enjoyed it and played 3 rounds. Lose the background music.
Here are some bugs I found:
- On the sacrifice menu, you can actually sacrifice all stats at once.
- When I am near a destroyed tower, the other towers that aren't on my range yet are shooting.
Incredible game! I really like concept and polishing, it's a great game not just for Ludum Dare, but yes as indie game. Congratulations!
This is a super fun game! I really like the art style and music, the game concept is pretty cool too! Only suggestion is to add more level variety, as currently they all have the same structure. Good work! :)
The sound design is great! Something I know that I need to work more on for sure, during the jams it usually comes last and all we implement is some music. I enjoyed the background music, I feel that it fit quite well. Thank you for sharing your work!!
Nice entry. The sacrifices didn't feel that impactful though? I don't know what sacrificing strength did, since the enemies died with the same number of zaps as before. Sacrificing speed didn't feel like it was a big loss either.
@hugonun Working on fixing the game up as part of another jam and both bug have been addressed. Thanks for the feedback.
@megalink Thank you. I 'm updating the game now and each level will have it's own layout. It was planned for this but that whole time thing :)
@drauthius That is awesome feedback. I am updating the game now and I have added damage indicators that show how much damage you do when hitting an enemy. So you see the number go down if you sacrifice strength. I think it helps make the game more clear. Thank you!
Very nice game. I love your artwork, it is awesome!
The mechanics are very interesting, I like it.
Very good job!
This game is so good, I don't know how you managed to make it in 72 hours. The graphics, audio, and game play are on point. Good job.
