AWESOME GAME!!! So solid!!
Nicely done! It definitely has the right mood. The visuals and audio are great!
Really nice! It's a fun and compelling mechanic!
Nice execution of the theme! The game is pretty fun! I know it's intentional, but I found it a bit frustrating that I couldn't do anything except exactly what it wanted me to. I guess that's how most games are, but when a game feels like it should be open-ended and isn't, it feels bad to me. That probably makes me sound like I didn't like it, but I did! Definitely a great game for a 72 hour Jam!
Nice puzzle game. I never got the hang of the internal rules, though, so I felt like I was just randomly trying out stuff until it worked. It looks and plays really nice, though. I'd replace the falling sound, also.
I really like it! Just couldn't figure out how to restart after dying, so it really affected replayability for me.
It was a good idea and was interesting to play. Was stuck on an non-interactive screen when I died, which really affected replayability for me.
I tried my best to figure it out, but there was no time to learn. The help gif helped a little but it won't stick until it clicks by doing it.
I'd like to play, though. I like unique card battle games.
Really great! I'd write more but I can't think of anything to improve it!
Pretty fun and accessible RTS! Sometimes the hex capturing didn't do anything, though.
Nice! I wish the plugs weren't in the way when the fuse goes out.
Solid game! I'd love to play it more except It's sometimes impossible to see the letters on the people when they come back for their cars. If not for that I'd play this for hours!
It's a cute little game! The randomization was a bit too randomized; did a lot of just waiting for the colors I needed after fulfilling the needs of the other colors. Great job for a jam, though!
The game is very nicely polished and networking!!? That takes guts in a 48 hr jam!
Personally, though, I hate reddit and sites like that so this was painful for me. I had to quit after a post from the gore subreddit.
Really nice polish though!
Man, I'd play this if it were available for Mac :/
It was fun! I liked the "figure-it-out" gameplay. Screen Shot 2018-08-14 at 10.18.55 PM.png
Also, not sure if I was doing it right cause of the "figure-it-out" aspect, but that's the game, right?
I've played this game the longest so far! This was really accessible and still engaging! I only dream of what it would be like if you finished your plans. The art and audio are :kissing_cat: Very nice job! Screen Shot 2018-08-15 at 10.03.45 AM.png

This game was a trip! I liked it a lot, but I'm pretty sure you don't have the rights to all the graphics in this game. Don't worry, I won't tell :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: It took me a while to figure out that you can push the blocks under the crossed out rectangles. I know it's basically the first thing you do, but Instead I bumped into the "door" block and thought "oh i can't go there i guess" flew around in a circle and then tried again and without knowing why I was able to continue... I found out half way through finding all the fragments (defragments?) and then i was able to complete the game. Not sure if it was timed or just a win/don't win thing. Anyway, it was fun! Screen Shot 2018-08-15 at 3.58.20 PM.png
I like the "freeware" feel to it. It's as addicting, too. The "legend" is my only problem. It's hard to see and should be integrated into the level itself somehow; Looking back and forth was dizzying. Overall solid game, though.
@tobiasvl Yeah UX always takes the designers the most time in all my game dev experiences. When you have to do it all yourself, it's hard to find solutions to it all. Great game, though! You got the most important parts in there, and that's more than I can say about my game :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Funny! Fun idea! OMNOM
Addictive! Does it make sure there's some orders you can fill before it fills up or is it just random? Cause, man, it's pretty tough!
I like it! It's hard but the quick restart makes it very replayable.
I LOVE this!! It's so cute! I like the idea and your execution is really great! The art and music is awesome, too! The ONLY thing I'd like to see is some kind of "guide" or something that visualizes the "flinging" mechanic, cause it was a bit confusing at first and hard to grasp the concept of even after you realize what's happening. Definitely one of my favorites I've played!
Can you beat THIS!!? Screen Shot 2018-08-15 at 5.07.06 PM.png
Plays pretty well in browser. It was pretty fun!
Did not appreciate the theme.
I liked the art!
Nice platformer! Didn't get the connection to the theme, though.
Very well done! I thought I was stuck at the end cause the disco stuff seemed to have glitched, so I thought your twitter handle was a clue to a puzzle I couldn't figure out. Unless I'm wrong and that wasn't the end of the game. Either way, you have some great ideas in there!
Played it on a Mac and the W and A button didn't work for me, so it was unplayable.
BUT I watched a stream of @nufflee playing it and it looked really cool! So I rated it based on that and not my buggy experience on the untested mac version.
Well done!
Fun idea! I liked the puzzle element of it--placing dudes on bigger ice blocks to buy some time--but the timing needed was so tight i couldn't tell if my strategy was wrong or it was right and i just had to do it faster. Good game, though!
Great game! I just wish I had friends.
I LOVE the zooming out with "titanic-esque" music playing when you're floating away on a small piece of ice, waiting for the inevitable.
GOOD JOB!
Thanks @rodrigo-denubila, I agree about the lack of difficulty. I ran out of time and actually didn't do any gameplay tuning; It's mostly just arbitrary values when coding it. I'd have fixed it if I caught it earlier. Thanks for playing!
@tobiasvl Thanks for the feedback! The board is actually grid based, but the blocks are twice the size of the grid to introduce deliberate matching. The hero and enemies don't adhere to the grid, only the blocks do, which was a big part of the challenge of making the game.
Thanks for the comments @sarah and @nufflee. I think being able to push the blocks off is essential for the game to not end immediately.
In my opinion, "Running out of space" doesn't mean you can't free up space for yourself. Having to push the blocks off takes time and makes you vulnerable, so it's a trade-off. Plus you don't get points or get the light beams to slow the enemies that you get for matching them if you push them off. It's more of a survival game where you're just trying to get the best score you can when you inevitably die than a matching game. This is what I was going for with the design.
Thanks for the comments and feedback!
@sarah Thanks! Yhea, I would have added instructions given more time.
@skyrex Haha, yeah! Didn't have time to make a unique protagonist. You can read about it in my blog post. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/the-gargoyle-landing/robotron-2048shove-itmatch-3-how-can-that-go-wrong-getting-sick-is-how
@omiya-games Great feedback! I considered the idea of clearing them if they were touching, but wanted the matching to be more intentional. I think pushing off blocks is fun, too, because it clears space and is easy, ergo I don't think you should be rewarded for it. The fun of the game definitely seems to be a tight window of people who like match 3s and robotron games and care about score; very niche.
@antti-haavikko Haha yeah! Well, I thought the game wasn't that humorous so I opted out.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I've gotten a lot of feedback on the block and grid scale, and I've been working on a post-ludum-dare update for the game that really actually turns it into a fun game (thanks to all the awesome feedback)!
The moving through blocks was intentional but they're supposed to be "flying over" the blocks, which slows them down. I'm not sure how the game would play if they couldn't walk through the blocks themselves. The spinning was really the only visual I could pull from the limited assets to show the flying effect :v
Again, thanks for the great feedback and thanks for playing!
@blinkenlights Thanks, i recommend playing the post jam version: https://boopsgames.itch.io/the-gargoyle-landing-post-ld
@acronaut Great feedback! Will consider those suggestions!
@tuism Thanks for the feedback! I've never encountered the issue of a 5-row not clearing all 5 blocks. I couldn't get that to repro after many many tries.
Thanks for playing!
This is one of the best entries I've played! Simple but elegant and fun! It took me a minute to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but its actually pretty intuitive once you get going. I got to peak population 13. Don't know if that's good or not.
I really enjoyed it!
I loved the visual style! Pretty good idea, but it relied too much on randomness to be a strategy game.
I really really like the idea! The gameplay feels a bit sluggish, though. And even though it's not realistic, it'd also be better feedback to have the stars background move while you're the fighter. Overall a solid entry!
I had a lot of fun. Simple in a good way. The art is super cute! Great job!
I dug the game design. It ran slow on my machine, might have been the full screen.
I also really like the models! Solid compo entry!
Watched ElysiaGriffin play this, so I rated it on that, but when I played on my Mac, I couldn't open the inventory with the right mouse button. It just didn't seem to do anything. That's ok, though, because I CANNOT play an FPS without inverted y axis. Really great game, though!
Excellent! Watched it played on ElysiaGriffin's stream.
I appreciate the depth. The art style is cute, too.
This game feels nostalgic. Reminds me of newgrounds. Some of the voices sounds like ding dong.
Man, i thought my score was pretty good till i say the above comment :/
I think it is intentional to just let them get sick...

The sprites and NPCs are neat. It has potential! Nice first entry!
Oh, crap. I'm sorry, man! I read the description wrong (ie didn't really read it). That was stupid of me.
Yes the art was amazing! The music was great! I could NOT figure out the game, though. Read the help several times and tried playing around. Maybe it was just me.
I like the mechanic (even if I don't particularly like the concept).
It's a really well-made game, but precision timing platformers are not my thing.
Excellent game! I love the art and the concept! Simple but fun!
I like the idea, but it seems to be lacking feedback on what to do and telegraphing what is possible to do. It seemed like there were more weapon slots but only had 4 canons(?). It was a great start to something, though.
Definitely liked the atmosphere, though.
Yo, your link isn't HTML web. It's actually an exe download and I'm Mac.
It's an interesting idea. I'm sorry you didn't have time to flesh it out.
Great game! It's rare to see a game jam game with so much progression and level design. I liked the art, too!
Interesting game. It was pretty hard to get past 4 days. I like the visuals and mood.
I too couldn't get passed a point where the dialogue disappeared, and I was SO INVESTED!
I don't say this lightly, but GREAT job! It has some issues, but what can you do with branching path storylines?
My partner and I were extremely charmed by the idea!
This game looks and feels amazing! It was pretty fun, too. The controls were a bit wonky for me, though, playing on windows. You can tell the game was predominantly made for android, so the mouse wasn't that responsive. I think it was from lack of feedback when dragging... idk. Great job though! I'll be watching out for yall.
Really great concept! One major gripe: I move before the enemies, but then they attack where I was after i move. It doesn't make much sense to me and is hard to work with.
Solid entry! The graphics are amazing!
The art and audio were super good! The game design was great too, but I found it too difficult to want start from scratch every time I died. That's probably just me. It's an excellent entry!
Nicely done! That was an experience!
This is pretty impressive! Quality game!
Though, it ran slow and it was a lot of instructions to internalize at first and the text is really tiny.
Wanted to keep playing, but I got stuck at the door with the dagger-throwing statues. The door wouldn't open after sacrificing... Neat game, though!
I like it, but it's very difficult.
@justinmullin Thank you so much! That was really good feedback!
I really dug it! Nice simple but fun fight system!
Very interesting idea! Great job!
Interesting game. I played it for a long time before it got redundant. Well-done though!
I really enjoyed the graphics! I couldn't really figure out a different strategy from just shooting left, though. Nice work on the atmosphere!
I agree that the player needs a little more time. I personally don't like games that require fast thinking; I've been accustomed to thinking things out before taking action, though, that's a personal preference. Generally, I agree with the above comment about the time though.
That said, I love the art style! And the concept is really good, too! This is an excellent compo entry!
P.S. You should put your twitter in your profile description.
Tried playing with someone and player 2 didn't have an attack button on a Mac. Great art, though.
The art design is excellent, especially the freeze effect! It has great game-feel, too.
I really enjoyed the art and presentation. I didn't understand the sacrifice as a loss, more just a form of currency. I, also, got stuck outside stage 2. Nice job, though!
I found it to be very difficult and the sling shot thing pretty inconsistent. Nice job on the visuals, though!
This game looks amazing! Great job! I couldn't get very far, couldn't figure out how to improve.
The "sacrificing" inner-city children made me uncomfortable.
Pretty neat idea!
It was not a bad game. Why aren't you trying to get people to play it?
Also, it asked if I wanted to date Julie and I did. It said "no one else wants to date you, why not julie" WHATS WRONG WITH JULIE?
"R. I. P. Alas! After a short life, you've finally passed away at the age of 67. You manage to accumulate all of $-32544 on your account. Could you have done better? You got this entreprenurial spirit, which ventured on. Ethics didn't bother you, nor did all those people you stepped on. You tried to stay fit. But it didn't help with death. Obviously. You were a cautious person. Some may call you a coward."
Hmm.
I really really liked your idea. So simple but I don't think I've ever seen it before! A reverse powerup system really puts the convention on its head!
I also really really like the art! The sprites were really well-made.
I also really liked the game-feel.
It did, however, make me want the fighting part of the game to be better. When I saw the twin-stick controls, I was hopeful, and then disappointed when it ended up being basically A Link to the Past combat. Not a bad combat system, just left me wanting.
But overall it was extremely good entry! EXCELLENT!
Really great concept!! My biggest gripe is i wish "w" was jump and "space" was sacrifice.
I, too, play with WSAD, but this isn't an FPS, and for some people like me, "up" is better suited for jump in pc platformers.
Yeah, i really really wanted to figure this out, but couldn't. More instructions on how to allocate the crew even in the LD page would be helpful! Also, the dudes were hard to click and there's not enough time to evaluate what each one is good at.
I can see the potential for this to be fun if i could just crack the code! The art style is really cute, though!
