I wish I could play it! I'm going to have to wait for the Windows version I guess  By the way, if you want your game to get more ratings and such you should play and rate others games. That will make your game show up more for others

I liked this game.

I wish the walls and combat had been explained a little more, because a pirate blew up a stone wall with one shot and dropped a platform on top of a bunch of my buildings and then I was suddenly looking at the game over screen wondering what just happened.

I love building system though. This is the kind of game that I could sink hours into if it were just a bit more refined.

It is a really solid start, but the rules should definitely explained more, especially with regard to combat (pirates blowing stuff up). I also feel like the balance should been worked on more. On the other hand, I really think that the polish (graphics & sound) is superb. Overall, I think you should have shifted some effort from polishing to playtesting. Otherwise: good game.

This game is good-looking! Also like the music. The gameplay/builing system and sacrifices because of pirates are really fun. Great job :D

An amazing game. I got really hooked and played for quite a while. Took me a short while to figure out how to utilize the stone and wooden walls. The sacrifice part was very nice, although the consequences of not sacrificing anything was hard to predict, and I didn't really understand how the walls was supposed to protect me. All in all, I very good game, and it felt polished as well- Probably my top 1 pick, so far.

Thanks for sharing your game.

Really cool little system! Took a while experimenting around to find a strategy that seemed to work well. It seemed possible to just ignore the pirates and they wouldn't attack? I didn't end up trying because it didn't seem like it should be played that way, but I could tell I could wait until I had resources to accept their request.

This is a really really solid game, one of the most interesting ones I've played so far. Nicely done!

Took me awhile to figure out what to do, then I got the hang of it. The beginning was rough, but once it starts to progress it becomes pretty easy to maintain. Overall it was a fun experience and I ended up playing it longer than I thought I would.

This is one of the best entries I've played! Simple but elegant and fun! It took me a minute to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but its actually pretty intuitive once you get going. I got to peak population 13. Don't know if that's good or not.

I really enjoyed it!

daltonleavey 2018-12-06 05:13

Great game! Really like the art style and music. I think a short tutorial at the beginning would make things much easier. Awesome work!

wugbor 2018-12-07 00:18

Excellent game! It's tough, but I really like what you've done.

lastleaf 2018-12-08 09:16

Solid construction game! The gameplay is similar to some games I played before, but also has unique rules. I guess it is very difficult to accomplish in 48 hours! Also the audio and the animation are great!

It is quite difficult at the beginning, I agree that a short tutorial is needed. But it is already amazing in compo!

oriondark7 2018-12-08 21:05

Nice game! The music was pretty cool and the blend of the 32-bit graphics and sound created a nice mood. One thing I would suggest adding is a How to Play or Instructions screen because I had no idea what I was doing at first. Awesome job!

I love how you just throw me in to figure this out. First moment was like "umm okay I have an island and some icons? I move the mouse into the screen, and already the mouseover tip is indicating I can build stone. From there, the system is very self-discoverable, given how complex it is.

There were a couple of things that I struggled with early, but then they smoothed out after I lost a few times. One was that I got into a wood trap: this was likely a false trap, but I had spent enough wood that I had only 3, and the wood-creating building takes 4. So I also hadn't discovered what the "Sell" does.

Part of my confusion around "Sell" was that I thought the money icon was wheat, in an unprocessed form. It took a game where I was stuck on needing "wheat" to plant more fields, and none was forthcoming. I had fields, and even a field that was not next to a farm that would harvest it. I waited, but eventually I started experimenting, and then at some point it all clicked.

After that I was rolling. I didn't do super-duper well. I imagine an island of pretty epic proportions is possible, with proper advance planning and many layers. It's really cool how the highest possible island is conceivably doable, but the timing and the monkey-wrench of the pirates (whether you pay or not!) that would distort your perfect plan, all come together to force you to improvise. All that, plus the way that stuff falling down wrecks you because your mines have to be on the ground layer.

It's really cool how all of these elements come together, and how these problems are rooted firmly in the theme. The time pressure of the pirates coming is also a key aspect creating some tension while I play.

Beyond the design, I found the aesthetics very nice. The music is soothing and just the right amount of peppy to set the building mood, and the graphics are very nice as well.

Overall, a really nice entry. Even as I'm typing I'm kind of picturing that idealized island and wondering if I could build it with just one more go... hrmmm.......

(Three more games later)

Oh, weird, I built to the top of the screen and the game simply shut down. I can rep that from the start by just building straight up -- actually it doesn't happen if I build to the side of the menu, but if I build such that a block ends up behind a button, I run into trouble quickly, but I'm not certain if it's on build, mouseover, or button interaction.

But I did get one doozy of an island going. Right out of the gate with with a 5-slot area dedicated to wood with one layer of food, and then the right-hand side of the island was all mines with a handful of stone markets for money production. I was able to pay off all the pirates until I ran out of room.

Really a fun entry, well done.

Pretty in depth game you made. I'm really glad you included a sample screenshot of a town so that I could piggyback on that to understand how to build a good foundation. Once I got that going I was able to make a lot of progress. Getting hit by a pirate is super brutal and pretty much game over, but that's ok, I assume that's part of the design. One throwback I got from this game was Dune 1. In that game, you were constantly hounded by the emperor asking for an increasingly steep tax and I haven't seen that used all that much so that was a neat idea. I'm impressed with how many little systems you put into this game, and as a compo game on top of all that! Cool game with some neat ideas.

slashee-the-cow 2018-12-11 03:53

That was great! I loved the graphics and sound (sorta makes me ashamed of my efforts) and while a tutorial might not hurt, I was more than able to figure everything out based on the informative tooltips.

lise-carreel 2018-12-13 16:16

PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE T_T WHY WOULD THEY ALWAYS ASK ME FOR TWICE WHAT I STILL HAVE T_T Great game though. Now I will just lie down somewhere and cry.

toonteamj 2018-12-14 01:36

I liked it.

Trying to manage resources wisely was really fun, I just wish there was more of a tutorial on how things worked. The pirates blasted right through my walls.

joshuc 2018-12-26 04:22

The game was really fun, and i loved the take on the theme!
