LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Benefice by JustinMullin 2018-12-06T03:40:35Z

Really cool little system! Took a while experimenting around to find a strategy that seemed to work well. It seemed possible to just ignore the pirates and they wouldn't attack? I didn't end up trying because it didn't seem like it should be played that way, but I could tell I could wait until I had resources to accept their request.

This is a really really solid game, one of the most interesting ones I've played so far. Nicely done!

Dog Days by ruthiepee 2018-12-05T03:16:30Z

I loved the menu screen: "D DESTROY | H HOTDOG".

The music is absolutely lovely, and I think the do nothing strat is the best way to enjoy this game.

I had a great time, well done!

Dark Shepherd by Aumbra 2018-12-06T03:09:12Z

Neat concept and impressive lighting and graphics!

One issue I noticed is the ingame instructions have the mouse click buttons reversed.

The audio cues when attacking and drinking blood help a lot, a visual cue would really help give the player feedback for what they're doing.

The camera movement was a bit challenging to work with - was extremely sensitive for me.

Wild Heat Showdown by Akusan 2018-12-05T03:06:00Z

Pretty solid implementation! I like the artwork and parallax background. The music was nice too, although I think it stopped playing for a long time at some point while I played.

Was the ability to walk through some walls intentional? If so it would be great to make some subtle clue somehow, otherwise it feels like a glitch.

Sacrificing health for shooting and jumping I think is a strange fit for this game. Most of the fun in a platform shooter is to jump and shoot, so it really changes the way I went about navigating the level (I favored always going downward paths rather than jumping up towers for example). An interesting experiment nonetheless!

Nice job!

Card Grangers by verysoftwares 2018-12-03T18:50:01Z

Great job! Fun little mechanic, I'm a sucker for deck building type games - this almost scratches that itch. Once I figured out the patterns it started feeling a little rote. But I think it's a solid foundation to build upon - lots you could do here with ability types, enemy combat, etc. Fun art too!

Backwards by MerpADer 2018-12-06T03:01:39Z

After I gave up my first power and talked to the guy that was like "eh the big boss will get you" I couldn't figure out where to go.

A pretty interesting concept! The mechanics of jumping around and shooting took a while to get used to, with the jump feeling so floaty and the gun sometimes not registering if I was in front of it.

Pretty nice pixel art and I liked the level design (the parts I could access at least )

Nice job!

Quest for the West by tigerj 2018-12-05T02:47:11Z

I think a lot of commenters covered my thoughts as well. I didn't have any technical issues, and also want to echo Jimbly's comment that the music never got annoying! An admirable feat considering the amount of time spent just sitting and listening while you read.

Props to you for getting so much writing in, especially considering there are so many outcomes. Nicely done!

Cowboy Hell by dk5000p 2018-12-04T22:06:25Z

I always enjoy the quirky voice acting and SFX. I think this style of game leans on your strengths better than some of your previous work: the gameplay is interesting enough to engage with, but mechanically seems simple enough that you could let the voice acting & story shine.

Nice work! Keep it up.

Fruitful Reward by Mohrro 2018-12-06T03:21:01Z

I really enjoyed the music and the graphics. Do the levels have an end state? The second and third were a bit too tough for me and the first one didn't seem to end - if there is an end then an indicator for progress would be super helpful. Props on making a variety of stages, colors and even a tutorial. Well done!

Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. Fantastic entry. Loved the character designs and consistent style throughout.

Billy's West Quest by Lenny Sirivong 2018-12-04T02:08:25Z

Thanks for the feedback @dk5000p! I double checked what was going on with the sacrifice health amount, and it turns out it was doubling it. I uploaded fixes for that, thanks for pointing it out!

Billy's West Quest by Lenny Sirivong 2018-12-04T23:41:18Z

@ruthiepee thanks for the kind words! i should have made some indication that the gun vs fence was intentional

@jdelaay025johnd1788 thanks for the tip! This was my first Unity game - I'll definitely use that if I have mouse control in the future.
