LD39 — Running out of Power

Goyom by stefvanschie 2017-08-03T12:08:43Z

Whaaat, daily levels.

It's somewhat unique. The first level might be discouraging because the player is still learning what the candies do, but there's no room for mistakes and it's kind of long. Level 2 seems easy in comparison because the layout directs you to the right path, perhaps it should've been the intro level.

Level 5 is positively insane.

Galvanica by icxon 2017-08-04T12:57:34Z

Wow, this has quite a lot of content in it! The theme is well implemented and everything in the game is set out to support a role-playing experience. It feels very focused, using design limitations to its advantage.

Seems like you managed to make a very complete engine supporting the event-based gameplay. I especially appreciate the user-friendly details and amount of feedback (without coming across as too verbose). The game does a good job at explaining what your available actions are thru gameplay, and what you could've done differently.

I thought the difficulty was spot on in the sense that the game gives you several chances to recover. It gives this an edge over entries which are tuned to be overly penalizing. In a jam game, it's important that the first mistake you make doesn't prevent you from seeing what the game has to offer.

The random events were very varied and had a humorous character that kept me going. Some even had minigames inside dialogue, details like that are a big deal. And I love how the game acknowledges your decisions after a game over, this game is just full of fun surprises.

One of my personal favorite entries, I simply had fun the whole time!

Running from Power by dirkinz 2017-08-02T16:39:08Z

This game gives you a feeling of inevitability. Runs are over very soon, the level generation should perhaps give you some more walls to fool the guard.

Recapitate by superpokeunicorn 2017-08-02T15:50:19Z

You did well focusing on the essentials of gameplay. Pretty fun with potential for further development. Appreciate the lively animations.

Decaying Card Game by filippy 2017-08-04T13:28:24Z

Intriguing strategy game. This has the seeds of an addictive game because of its simple design and visible decisions.

To help with planning the right cards, the player should get some more feedback about card decay - how many times you've used a card, perhaps how it will be downgraded on your next use. Beyond that, an audiovisual upgrade (maybe going for a specific setting/theme) would do justice to the fun gameplay.

Hopefully you'll develop this further!

Running Out Of Tiles by BORB 2017-08-02T17:20:42Z

This concept can go places, with various tile types and all.

In the meantime, nice DOS sorta a e s t h e t i c

Running Voltgun by sinclairstrange 2017-08-03T17:40:38Z

Guaranteed Genesis-style action and audiovisual spectacle. As usual with your entries, I'm blown away by the sheer amount of assets and content.

What's your workflow like? Have you considered streaming or recording a timelapse of your development?

Runic Forest by tjakka5 2017-08-03T12:22:21Z

Voice acting is unusual in a jam game. A bit ambitious even - the exposition and multiple spells made a first impression.

I was also left hoping for gameplay progression, perhaps tower defense style waves that make you utilize your spells in different situations. There is potential for further development here.

Game sounds nice, I also appreciate details like particles and parallax. The movement is crazy fast though!

Remote by oab 2017-08-03T11:59:22Z

Very much a fan of the animation style. This game made me smile.

Blocks of Power by mortus 2017-08-02T16:26:25Z

Ambitious, ambitious - a fully-fledged build system, AI, and audiovisual polish in compo time. I have a soft spot for games where building is a part of gameplay, and this is all around very solid.

9 levels is almost too much, because it gets quite difficult all of a sudden. But the game manages to make a first impression, and that's more important in a game jam.

OxenOut by Dragwa 2017-08-03T11:29:57Z

The controls are precise to the point of being unusual, but ultimately fair. Direct visual feedback is a good learning tool. I had a blast seeing how far I could get.

Recharging power while not thrusting creates fun moments of risk-and-reward. The game would also be very unforgiving without this feature, so it's an important detail.

What's more, the game is very consistent with its aesthetic while having variety in the layouts - even going the extra steps to set a mood. It's a game that knows what it wants to be, and I appreciate that.

All around one of the more impressive entries!

Escape Velocity by Klowner 2017-08-03T12:33:58Z

I can see what you were going for here. It's an unique resource management game featuring a strong setting, with major consequences from micromanagement decisions.

However, imprecise movement and collision bugs hindered the experience. I found myself flying through walls often, or simply feeling like my character isn't responding because of excess momentum.

I believe you should develop this further, it's pretty ambitious.

Hydrocrypt by shru 2017-08-03T10:12:14Z

Speedrunning type game with great presentation. The controls and hitboxes are precise enough that dodging bullets feels fair.

Fuse Cell by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-04T15:50:47Z

I remember playing a dungeon crawler entry from you in some earlier Ludum Dare! This shmup has a lot of character and a novel use of the theme, pretty clever how enemies can be useful. Short and sweet, I'd love to see more of this.

Electric Neon by kamikaziuk 2017-08-03T13:05:58Z

The mouse controls are strange but make controlling your car very involving, I found that to be the best part of the game. Audiovisually very impressive, but I was left hoping for more gameplay goals.

No Sorcerer's Sky by TheFlyingKeyboard 2017-08-04T16:01:49Z

There seems to be a very complete resource management game here, but the lack of feedback makes it hard to enjoy.

Back Home by Angry Squirrels 2017-08-03T13:32:56Z

Very moody above all, production values on a pro level.

Not exactly sure of my distance or velocity at times, but the basic interaction felt satisfying. It did give me a bit of motion sickness though.

Plug Me by hav24 2017-08-03T13:20:09Z

Creative concept, and it sees a lot of different uses here! The fundamentals are spot on, specifically the controls and difficulty progression seemed just right for this sort of game. Even beyond that, it looks and sounds nice, and just generally has a lot of character.

Enjoyed playing through all the levels, very much a 5 star entry.

Spaced out by Simon Rahnasto 2017-08-03T11:51:14Z

Impressive demo of what can be done with Löve in a short time. Simply a very polished and complete entry from controls to presentation and incorporation of theme. No real minuses, only that the track select interface seems to cut off on my laptop screen.

Power Hungry Robot by Edmanbosch 2017-08-02T16:19:36Z

A very to-the-point speedrunning game.

BatteryMan by Rami 2017-08-02T17:07:24Z

A hectic real-time puzzle game. Perhaps in the early stages, you should have an initial safety period to read the instructions?

After the tutorial, the levels get impressively complex, and seem to do a lot with simple mechanics. The difficulty is not for the weak-hearted, but I for one enjoyed what you did here.

Exponential Maintenance Engineer by nintendoeats 2017-08-02T16:01:51Z

The scoring system is quite unique, though due to the indirectness of placing cubes, I was unable to discover an optimal strategy. In fact, I found it oddly relaxing to simply interact with.

The Light City of Karola by davidcollado 2017-08-03T11:08:57Z

A moody platformer. There is a lot of presentation, and the game teaches itself through level design well enough. But the use of coins could indeed be underlined more clearly, at least for first-time players. @tuism raised many good points about the fundamentals that I also encountered.

A small detail, the music doesn't need to reset every time the player does. The whole piece is nice to listen to.

Scale of Life by ilya_kozlov 2017-08-03T11:43:48Z

Cute and soft. A polished one-button game with an unique feel to it. Perhaps even too many visual tricks obscuring the gameplay information at times.

a story about a cat by increpare 2017-08-02T16:14:22Z

This game does a very nice job at explaining its goals and narrative with minimal text, and a bit of trial-and-error. It's unusual for a jam game to make me emotional, I can't help but give it 5 stars in Mood for the story.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Revolver Curse by SkullPixel 2018-12-08T18:32:15Z

There's quite a bit to explore here. Good effort.

Santa on Skis by Zathnic 2018-12-22T14:00:51Z

pretty humorous to dash around the procedurally generated map. i ended up with negative points though.

Blót by Imphenzia 2018-12-21T17:32:26Z

very moody game. some of the jumps were quite challenging.

Throw yourself at me by Tymus 2018-12-05T17:02:06Z

simple and smooth controls, cool shader effects.

Reverse Quest by kleinzach 2018-12-17T19:15:48Z

Clever concept, ambitious game.

Colors of Your World by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-12-21T17:20:57Z

very beautiful as always.

Miko Quest by Sun-Wukong 2018-12-02T23:44:18Z

it crashed on me after the second puzzle. :(

STAR JUNK by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2018-12-22T14:53:37Z

beautiful art as usual. the sacrifice theme is taken well with all the trade-offs.

Spells and slimes by namnam 2018-12-05T17:18:49Z

What a creative entry. Are there really 97 spells?!

Keyboard Twister by Papercookies 2018-12-22T13:49:08Z

cute and funny game, great presentation. doesn't really seem related to the theme though.

Zoe and the Polypantheon by Carraka 2018-12-22T13:43:53Z

very comprehensive adventure game. good theming around the gods.

Witchie by r0wan 2018-12-08T19:09:30Z

Cool interfaces. It seems very much like a complete package, I have no problems with it.

Twist of Souls by franfox 2018-12-21T17:25:06Z

hmm, i'm just not sure if the game presents a meaningful choice. you lose health so fast in normal orientation that you'll basically always want to be upside-down. it does have some good presentation and level design.

Eternal Home Floristry by Deconstructeam 2018-12-21T17:52:55Z

wow. this is some great writing, barring a few grammatical errors. very touching.

Card Grangers by verysoftwares 2018-12-02T23:37:32Z

thanks everyone! @caspercaper17 i noticed 3 graphical bugs which were quick-fixed on compo time. @pxlucasf unfortunately tic-80's sound system does not support midi..

Card Grangers by verysoftwares 2018-12-04T00:01:59Z

@lenny-sirivong and others thank you for your critique! i do think that this can be expanded upon and i'm considering post-compo directions already.

Card Grangers by verysoftwares 2018-12-04T11:47:02Z

@ild-games-llc woah, you got four cacti? waves are randomized. that's like the final boss.

good observations too, i've made the same ones but never articulated them like you.

Overslept by MaiMai 2018-12-21T17:05:40Z

it's moody but the timing is pretty challenging.

Little Kingdom by tulipekoni 2018-12-08T18:49:53Z

It seems a lot of effort has gone into this, it's pretty in-depth while remaining simplistic. Fun sort of resource management with a polished presentation. Hyvää työtä!

Most Important Person by Kobrar 2018-12-21T16:51:00Z

the people and monsters follow you really believably.

Labrats by Matank 2018-12-22T17:11:45Z

good amount of content here.

For The Will Of Gods by Erendelous 2018-12-08T17:58:31Z

A game that fits the theme nicely. For future development, consider making some improvements on your presentation.

Dark Villagers by AwiX 2018-12-08T17:47:28Z

Quite a complex interface you've managed to make. I didn't always understand what I was doing, but it was fun.

I MUST BELONG by Tolga 2018-12-05T17:10:35Z

Moody game. The metal soundtrack is very powerful.

Fruitful Reward by Mohrro 2018-12-08T17:40:59Z

Plays well. I like that there's different music for each difficulty.

For Brain ! by nolifedev 2018-12-22T15:02:57Z

real good music in this one.

Billy's West Quest by Lenny Sirivong 2018-12-05T17:04:37Z

The camera lags behind the player, it's difficult to see what's ahead. The fences explode in a satisfying way.

Shooting Chickens by PxLucasF 2018-12-03T17:18:32Z

i cycled thru all 5 maps/songs, my high score is 202. this game is somehow relaxing. also i agree with @suchista.

Welcome to the North Pole! by fre 2018-12-22T15:21:39Z

lots of charm in this one.

LD44 — Your life is currency

Panic Percussion by verysoftwares 2019-04-30T08:22:14Z

hmm i'm not sure what to put in the instructions.

Panic Percussion by verysoftwares 2019-05-01T12:15:50Z

instructions added based on playtester feedback!

Panic Percussion by verysoftwares 2019-05-01T13:47:39Z

there is a way to beat the 4th enemy without damage, though the solution is a bit unintuitive.. so i've added a hint in the instructions

Panic Percussion by verysoftwares 2019-05-03T09:01:24Z

ohh okay, thanks for your feedback. keep it coming and i can make a post-jam deluxe build to address these issues

Panic Percussion by verysoftwares 2019-05-07T19:53:55Z

> Kind of an interesting mechanic, I like how you managed to have different boss mechanics in a rhythm game.

thank you, i feel like that's where i really succeeded.

SACRIFIGHTS by Lumpy 2019-05-02T05:00:22Z

crazy good gfx & audio! nice sense of progression as a focus of gameplay

Rashness by Saering 2019-05-02T04:48:06Z

interesting, you start to develop tactics for the boss as you learn about it. presentation is pretty sweet, audio is perhaps a bit harsh and not fitting for a bossfight.

Curfe by Kajetan Andrzejak 2019-05-02T04:50:59Z

clever, clever. it's simple and fun, very much what one would hope from a jam game!

Jukebox Panic! by Kaish 2019-05-08T06:35:09Z

solid 4-star game! the audio was lovely with the subtle coin sounds and all. i love jam games with unique control schemes. also, we both have an entry with "Panic" in the title :)

this'll be great on mobile
