LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Scriptless Pipes by Turkey 2021-04-26T04:39:54Z

I love it! The core gameplay loop is surprisingly engaging. Clicking on a pipe and finding a new layer is a very satisfying experience!

The only thing I'm missing is audio. I'm not sure how hard that would be (or if it's even possible) with just HTML5, but some relaxing background tracks and pipe traversal sound would really elevate this already charming concept.

Great work!

Manic Miner by ryannielson 2021-04-26T16:48:35Z

The presentation is nice and the core gameplay is very solid, straightforward.

I think the game could benefit from gems; something that boosts your score, but you'd have to think about how to get to them with air. That combined with smarter generation of air bubbles would make for a more engaging experience.

The game feel is really nice. Keep up the good work!

Saving Greg by LJFMX 2021-04-26T04:33:02Z

The voice acting is pretty funny.

I wish we could have saved Greg, but I get that 48 hours isn't a lot of time

1GEMCLIC.EXE by verysoftwares 2021-04-27T07:07:45Z

A couple notes:

The sound effect gets annoying pretty fast. It's weirdly harsh on the ears when you really get going. Some better sound effect management would do good here.

The trading post basically makes every other upgrade, including the mega drill, obsolete. Due to exponential growth of gem collection, and linear growth of the upgrade cost.

The pacing between upgrades until the "endgame" with trading posts is nice though, striking a balance enough to keep me engaged to the end. That's probably the most important thing about autoclickers: constantly keeping your players wanting the next thing without them getting bored of having it too quickly or too slowly.

Core gameplay feels nice, but the whole thing could use a little polish. Nice work!

Submergence by TomekS 2021-04-26T05:16:37Z

The atmosphere is quite nice. I can tell that a lot of time was spent on level design and modeling the cave system.

It's a little hard to tell how far away from the cave walls you are though. I wish that the sub had more lights around it to give a better idea of the distance between the sub and the surroundings.

It'd make a really cool mechanic as well if the cave got darker as you went down. Slow and steady indeed.

The presentation is nice. Good work!

Ants Are Awesome by IndigoWolf 2021-04-26T18:52:32Z

I'm a huge fan of the genre. Sim Ants, Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, the indirect strategy/management sims. It's really impressive the system that you were able to come up with in the 48 hour time limit.

At the moment, it's missing a lot of QoL things that a modern Sim Ants would have. For example, click and drag digging.

However, the core gameplay and system are great, and I hope that you keep working on this project.

The Life Aquatic by Cary Stanley 2021-04-26T02:52:00Z

Between the music and the voice acting, this is probably my favorite audio design in an entry. Great job!

Beautiful blob by Hestrateja 2021-04-26T02:16:22Z

It's really funny! The music is great. The two biggest gripes I have are:

The hitboxes are a little wonky at the end. I think it's using the original sprite's hitbox, so you've got more clearance with the forehead.

Instead of getting a game over screen where you have to manually restart, just plonk the player back at the start. With how slow the game is during gameplay, it's really slow to have to keep manually restarting.

All in all, a really solid game

Through The Crust by sweer 2021-04-26T03:36:06Z

I like the sound design and core gameplay loop. The drill feels good to control, which is great.

For a game this tough, it would be nice if the "Continue?" option dropped us right back into the game instead of going back to the main menu. If I'm dying over and over, it'd be preferable to start over faster.

All in all good job!

Mini Miners by PetTurtle 2021-04-26T04:12:19Z

The art style is great! I love the idea as well, very reminiscent of "Lemmings"

I wish there were more mobility options for the dwarves. It seems like once they're down some place, they're stuck. Something like stairs or a ladder, or a (for a price) one time pickup option

The idea is really cool, it'd be great to have it expanded on. I hope you keep working on this!

Congratulations, Debt! by Thinh 2021-04-27T06:43:03Z

Funny! I like the silly music that plays in the background.

I'm not sure if it's my hardware, but the mouse sensitivity was really high for this game. Made me pretty dizzy trying to move around in the store

Miningsweeper by Nick Barrash 2021-04-27T03:31:34Z

A cool take on Minesweeper! I see this has already been suggested, but right click to mark a tile as dangerous is a feature that is badly missed. Also, an option to show resources AND dangers on the tiles at the same time would be nice, as it would make decision making much faster.

Bat and Spider Cavern by Greg the Egg 2021-04-26T03:11:13Z

@bkelly Thanks! The darker and darker mechanic was what I wanted to design the game around primarily

Better enemy AI and generation were things that I wanted to do, but ran out of time for

Afraid to Turn by rhoff95 2021-04-26T05:24:48Z

The presentation is great! Both the art and sound design are excellent; the moon filling up as the timer is one of those lovely touches that makes an experience memorable.

I'd love to see this fleshed out a bit more. The rock throwing doesn't really feel great and having to run all the way back at the end is a bit tedious.

All in all a solid entry. Well done!

Nostril Navigator by Xenon27 2021-04-26T03:30:37Z

Something about the sound effects and visuals really remind me of 'Nightmare Ned' in the best way. It's cohesive, simple, and funny.

The only thing I'm missing out on is an end goal or score system. Aimlessly navigating a nose without any sense of progression or completeness gets boring.

That said, the presentation is fantastic. Nice work!

My Dentures! by Luc-creationallabs 2021-04-26T19:49:13Z

Nice! The core gameplay loop is really fun and intuitive. With a little polish, I could totally see this as a popular mobile or web game.

Since the isometric grid doesn't match up to WASD, maybe include a WASD on screen to remind the player which button goes to which direction.

The SFX are great, but I think a backing track would complete the audio experience.

Well done!

Ziggurat by nethead 2021-04-26T05:02:44Z

The whole feeling that this game gives off is quite immersive. The graphics are incredibly pretty, and the music complements it perfectly.

I think I may have found a bug: on the end screen, my character's walking sfx were still playing.

The only other criticism I have is that it's sometimes difficult, especially in the first level, to tell what's part of the background, versus what can be interacted with.

The presentation is excellent. I could totally see a fully fleshed out version of this knocking it out of the park. Keep up the great work!

The Deepest Space by Robotex 2021-04-29T04:49:59Z

A pretty reasonable interplanetary navigation simulation!

That being said, not a lot of people are really familiar with orbital mechanics. It's pretty simple once you understand the basics (on my third attempt I was able to reach the goal without touching a fuel can). The game could really benefit from a tutorial.

The other thing is, the background really made me dizzy while I was playing. An option to keep it static would be nice

It's a neat idea, and an interesting take on the theme. Just needs a little more polish

I'm So Deep by liammasters 2021-04-26T03:48:52Z

This is without a doubt the most creative game I've played. It's also really funny. It's kind of hard to determine what to write, but it's fun to try. Great job!

Adam Wilks' Ant Colony by Adam Wilks 2021-04-27T07:41:53Z

The parts are there, but it needs some more work.

To me, the most defining and important aspect of a Sim Ant style game is the fact that the ants kinda do their own thing, even without player intervention. Right now, it's completely manual. A few other players mentioned that things could be explained better, which I also think is true, if not in the game itself, at least as a set of instructions on the site. It's also missing an exit button, which is really sort of telling that you ran out of time. 48 hours really isn't a lot of hours

You've got a foundation. I hope you keep adding until it's a lovely house!

Into the Abyss by oeschmid 2021-04-26T03:44:28Z

Very nice!

The art style is very pretty, but I will say that sometimes I had a hard time figuring out what was going on in a level because it's so small

It must be tough coming up with interesting puzzle designs in such a short period of time. Well done!

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T02:47:03Z

I love the aesthetics! The core gameplay loop is simple, but it's really fun as well. I like that when you die, it tells you why you died so you can try again.

It's kind of strange that A is only used once at the start to release the brake. It seems like it does nothing the rest of the game.

Also on the web port, F3 is a bad key to use, since my browser things I want to use the Find option.

This is an excellent entry. Good job!

Sleep Walls by drom1x 2021-04-26T04:04:54Z

The sound design is excellent!

I encountered a small bug where when you continue, the first level is of the difficulty you were at when you last woke up. After that it resets to original difficulty.

As expressed by others, the core gameplay loop is a little hard to understand at first.

The presentation with dynamic music and trippy backgrounds is fantastic. Good work!

Jelly Pacifist by Dan McAlister 2021-04-27T07:53:13Z

Really cute! The concept and music are great, and the art for all the sea critters was nice!

It seems like the consequence for hurting is much less than being hurt though? Perhaps I need to beat the game without killing anything and there's a second ending, or is the punishment having to see their corpses?

The only thing is the jellyfish really feels slow and methodical. Maybe that's the intention, but I felt like I was wrestling with the controls trying to avoid enemies.

The story, music, and art are all very nice. Good job!

Lord Of The Flies by PixelPortalz 2021-04-26T02:21:24Z

The gameplay is super unique. It's a little frustrating to try to get the flies to get where you need them to go, but I think that's part of the challenge. The graphics are simple, but effective... I don't think I would want them more high def even if it was possible.

All in all pretty great!

Follow My Voice by coyotethursday 2021-04-26T04:18:58Z

Certainly the most unique entry I've played so far. It's a really cool concept

After a frustrating minute, I also learned that I've had my headphones on backwards since I got them

I'd like just a bit more handholding in the start. It's a really interesting idea, well done!

Depths of the Deep by Panacea 2021-04-26T03:24:29Z

I really like this take on the theme. The music is really nice, and the puns made me smile

"Not really sure what genre it is…maybe a vertical metroidvania"

It's probably a 'walking simulator' https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Walking+Simulator

Find The Page! by Rouge_dragon 2021-04-26T02:06:58Z

Ha! We used to play this game in school when everything else was blocked. It's based on that "Seven degrees of separation concept". Cool idea!

Excavation Site Alpha by petra_the_kat 2021-04-26T05:38:02Z

"World of Goo meets dominoes!" is correct! The presentation is nice, with good art and music. The core gameplay mechanics are the star of the show.

This really feels like it could benefit from some short term goals. Like completing puzzles based around the block building. The sandbox mode is nice, but it feels a bit aimless.

I think you've got a really solid idea here. I'd love to see it developed more!

Surface by lb01 2021-04-26T03:57:24Z

The most impressive part to me is how the ship controls. It's very intuitive, which is something that's quite challenging in 3D. The art, music, and sfx are all really great, the look and feel of the game is excellent.

The only improvement I would suggest is a radar or some other way of telling where enemy ships are. Sometimes you're just flying around living your best life and suddenly you're in a laser light show. I think there might be an audio cue for it? But it's quite subtle.

Fantastic work!

TESTS by EpicCrownKing 2021-04-26T04:48:16Z

Excellent! Why submit one game when you can submit 5?

Tiny gripe, after playing the balloon mini game, I immediately clicked which knocked me out of the whole system.

The sound design is nice, but I'd like some background music.

All in all I would love to see this idea expanded on. It's really fun! Great work!

Deepr Diver by Vitor Figueredo 2021-04-26T02:39:13Z

It's a very simple concept executed very well. The music, graphics, and core gameplay loop are all really great.

Two critiques:

Upon game over, I would prefer to be put back at the start rather than have to click continue. It breaks up the flow of this otherwise very fluid and simple experience

The hitboxes are somewhat unforgiving

I could totally see this as a timekiller mobile app or web game. Very well done!

Deeper Bros. Digital Computer by Adam Selker 2021-04-27T07:25:44Z

This brings me back to middle school. Classmate made an even/odd function that was 10,000 lines of if statements

Creating a programming language for a game jam is pretty sweet. I love the TIS80 and Shenzhen I/O style puzzle games.

The experience on Windows is pretty rough, lots of stuttering. A proper Windows release would be sweet, and hopefully get more people would try this game, because it's pretty cool!
